Thousands of people, among them civil servants and vendors, have lost thousands of dollars to fraudulent online pyramid scheme MMM Global Zimbabwe after it collapsed recently. The social financial network, which relied on an accelerating number of new members to pay off the old, abruptly terminated its services last week leaving participants stranded.

Zimbabweans have in the past months been joining the online investment scheme in droves in a bid “to get rich quickly”. The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe warned people that the scheme was fraudulent and there was no legal recourse in the event they lost their money.

The scheme advertises itself as a mutual aid fund under which recruited members contribute money to assist others and are promised investment returns of 30 percent per month. Some of the people left counting their losses told The Herald that they received emails that the scheme had been suspended until September 15.

The 14-year-old was named Prince Michael II at birth but was given the nickname Blanket by his famous father, Michael Jackson.

But last year the teenager changed his name to Bigi Jackson, in part due to bullying.

“Growing up, his school mates have always been slightly mean to him because of their jealousy over who he is and going by Blanket made him a much easier target for ridicule,” a source told Radar Online.

Bigi, who was just seven years old when Michael Jackson died in 2009, keeps a relatively low profile.

The cause of the blast late on Saturday in Chelsea remains unclear. Mayor Bill de Blasio described it as "intentional" but said that there were no known links to terror.

US-led coalition air raids reportedly killed dozens of Syrian soldiers on Saturday, endangering a US-Russian brokered ceasefire and prompting an emergency UN Security meeting as tensions between Washington and Moscow escalated.

The United States military said the coalition stopped its strikes against what it believed to be ISIL positions in the eastern city of Deir Ezzor on Saturday after Russia informed it that Syrian military personnel and vehicles may have been hit.

"We are investigating the incident," US Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power told journalists as the emergency Security Council meeting, called by Russia, got under way in New York.

"If we determine that we did indeed strike Syrian military personnel, that was not our intention. And we of course regret the loss of life."

COLUMBUS, Ohio – An officer responding to a reported armed robbery shot and killed a 13-year-old boy when the teen pulled a firearm from his waistband that was later determined to be a BB gun but looked "practically identical" to the weapon that police use, authorities said Thursday.

The shooting happened around nightfall Wednesday in an alley east of downtown Columbus after a short foot chase.

Columbus police said officers had spotted three males who matched the description of the robbery suspects, and two of them ran away when officers tried to speak with them.

Officers followed the pair into a nearby alley and tried to take them into custody. Police said that's when 13-year-old Tyree King pulled out a gun, and one officer fired his weapon, hitting the boy repeatedly.

Tyree died at a children's hospital. The officers and the other male involved in the encounter weren't injured.

Samsung Electronics has renewed calls to consumers to stop using its Galaxy Note 7 smartphones immediately and exchange them as soon as possible, as more reports of phones catching fire emerged even after the company’s global recall.

The fresh call from the South Korean company, the world’s largest smartphone maker, came on Saturday after US authorities urged consumers to switch the Note 7 off and not to use or charge it during a flight.
