My colleagues and I had just finished work in the early hours of the morning and we needed a lift home. It was 2am and when an unknown car stopped for us we hitched a ride. The car had three men inside and I got a strange feeling from them as they were avoiding looking at us.

We drove for a short distance but then the driver started going in the opposite direction from where we needed to go. I was the only one who noticed as all my workmates were busy on their phones.

I started panicking and asked the driver where he was taking us, but instead of answering me the guy seated at the back with us took out a gun and pointed it straight at my head. He told us to shut up and behave or he’d blow us up. We were all so frightened.

We were taken to a nearby veld where the three men, all armed now, started assaulting us. They took our phones and all our belongings. One of them started to strip my uniform and forced me onto the ground.

He raped me right there with my colleagues helplessly watching.

One of the other guys, carrying what looked like a kitchen knife, came up to me and also tried to force himself on me – when I tried to resist he stabbed me in my thigh and forced my legs apart.

Tanzania has removed more than 10,000 "ghost workers" from its public sector payroll in a crackdown on corruption.
Payments to the non-existent employees had been costing the government more than $2m (£1.4m) a month, according to the prime minister's office.
The authorities say they are continuing to audit the public payroll and expect to find more phantom workers.
President John Magufuli, who was elected in October, has promised to cut wasteful public expenditure in office.
He ordered the audit in March, calling for the money saved to be used towards development.
Nicknamed the bulldozer,
Mr Magufuli has announced a range of cost-cutting measures since coming to power, including cancelling official celebrations for independence day.
Tanzania spends more than $260 million a month paying the salaries of its estimated 550,000 public workers, Reuters news agency reports.

The Nigerian army has arrested several suspected members of a militant group called the "Niger Delta Avengers" (NDA), thought to be behind recent attacks on oil pipelines in the south.
The country's oil production has been severely disrupted by the attacks.
US oil giant Chevron shut down an offshore platform this month after an attack claimed by the Avengers group.


Many militants joined an amnesty programme in 2009 after an insurgency in the oil-rich delta region.
Nigeria has long been Africa's largest oil producer, but its economy is currently facing difficulties due to the recent drop in global oil prices.

Most of Nigeria's oil wealth comes from the Niger Delta, an area which remains poor and underdeveloped.
Previous insurgent groups said they were fighting so local people could benefit more from their region's natural resources.
Oil spills have also resulted in environmental devastation over the years.

The amnesty programme, which provides tens of thousands of former oil militants with a monthly stipend from the government, stemmed the level of violence in the region after its introduction in 2009.
But in the latest budget, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari reduced funding for the programme by 70%, and has spoken of phasing it out entirely by 2018.
Critics accuse Mr Buhari, a Muslim northerner, of unfairly targeting communities in the southern, mainly Christian oil-producing regions, as part of his anti-corruption drive.
Mr Buhari's predecessor Goodluck Jonathan, a Christian, comes from the Niger Delta region.
Little is known about the so-called "Avengers", who say they are fighting for an independent Delta region.
But the attacks claimed by the group have contributed to a slump in Nigerian oil production, reportedly down to its lowest level in more than two decades.

A letter written by President Muhammadu Buhari to apply for application to write an examination into the Nigerian army has surfaced online.

The letter obtained by Premium Times showed that the army was referred to as the Royal army at the time and the president, in his handwriting, stated his age and what academic qualification he had.

President Buhari who is in far away China on a four-day diplomatic visit, where he is strengthening ties between Nigeria and the Asian country, was an 18-year-old teenager at the time.
The letter President Buhari wrote to join the Nigerian army at the age of 18.
Some Nigerians think, however, that little has changed about the president about 55 years after applying to join the soldiers.

People say his Fulani mentality is still always on display when the president takes certain decisions, while some are of the opinion that he did not write the letter himself.

Once in a while, on a perfectly ordinary day, you busy yourself with the motions of your life, probably shopping at the mall or queuing for fuel or whatever it is you get busy with. You are there, in the simplicity of the life you have constructed for yourself post break up, when suddenly, without warning, you stumble into the ex. If you are lucky, the ex in question would have aged miserably or at least grown bald and pimpled. But if you are not, (and let’s face it, these things hardly travel with luck) the ex looks exactly the same, only this time, shinier, happy, like actually happy. Not that anyone should go about wishing some incurable disease upon their ex, but just generally chin fat here, some flabs there, anything that makes it harder for them to jet off with their stinking rich or super model replacement of you. #Haha

Jokes apart, stumbling into a part of your life you have left behind can be awkward. I would know because I still duck once in a while when I come upon an old classmate or acquaintance from a former life. I have never been sure what to say or how to play catch up with the latest version of people. So imagine where the person you are stumbling into happens to be someone you were once romantically involved with. Where do you start from? What do you say? And beyond being polite, what do you really do with an ex? Like what are the rules or boundaries when it comes to interacting with them? The question kind of crept into a conversation with my girlfriends. One person said past romantic relationships should be buried so deep, that you are never able to reach for it again. Another person thought it was mature and reasonable to stay friends.
So the debate went, complete closure or friend zone?

There was a time I would have opted for friend zone, a time I would have sang cheerily at the prospect of maintaining relationships with people for the sake of not knowing when you may need them. You know, the kind of cheesy, motivational punch line, network your way to the top kind of thing. Except that it doesn’t really work, not with relationships at least. Most people, post break up, (myself inclusive), insist on friendship with ulterior motive. There is always that silent intention, that unspoken hope that the ex will hang around long enough to see what an incredible mistake they have made in leaving you. And because wisdom is often the profit of time and experience, I have learned that keeping a person who wants nothing to do with you only prolongs inevitable heartache.

So, as of today, my stand is complete closure. This is easier said than done in the age of Instagram following, but still, I advocate complete closure, with certain exceptions if you are able to answer the following questions.

1. Where you friends first? If you had always been friends before getting intimate, then you are likely to revert back to being friends. Not that it’s easy, but its a scenario that makes it workable.

2. Is there a shared outcome of the relationship? Like a child or a business? Obviously, you have to stay connected one way or the other if the relationship produced a child. There is no excuse to keep a child away from one parent. Absolutely none.

3. Do you move in unavoidably similar circles? You have to agree, it will be ridiculous to remain sworn enemies who fight publicly and throw shades every other day if you both work in a similar industry or move around the same circle. You could save your colleagues the embarrassment and find a way to stay cordial. So friend zone, definitely.

4. Have you moved on? Not that moving on is this thing that is ever clearly defined. I know someone who in a four year relationship, continues to dream about his former girlfriend. So, if you are sure that you are completely over an ex, it might be okay to maintain a cordial friendship. But like I said, its a tricky thing, the mind and the heart often has its way around each other.

5. Has time passed? Because you never truly get over a relationship that has not been severed by time and distance. An ex who gives you distance, no matter how painful it seems initially, has done you the greatest favour. Take advantage. Only after distance and time can you forge ahead with friendship.

The list is not exhaustive, I’m sure there are other instances that makes it okay to stay friends with your ex. Though I think these kind of friendships should be heavily guarded. I think some parts of our lives should be left behind, so that we can truly embrace, without weight or burden, then endless possibilities of the future.

Lagos state command operatives has recovered Dancehall star Cynthia Morgan’s stolen white Range Rover SUV.

It was recovered yesterday night April 11th from a mechanic’s workshop in Ojodu area of Lagos.



The vehicle was stolen on 12th of March.

The police said the SUV will be released back to Cynthia shortly.
