Christistruth02: The Western Region already had an embassy in the UK before 1960 . The Western Region was fully Autonomous!! It was on Great Portland Street in Central London
It had to close down after the Ironsi became President and the building was later taken over by the FG without paying the Western Region any compensation
The Western Region also had its own Court of Appeal and Supreme Courts
Western Region had its own embassy in UK both before and after Independence that was the extent of Nigeria's Regional Autonomy
FG business was National Defence ,Foreign Policy and a few things the regions did most of the Governance
1. the last constitution before independence was the Macphersons Constitution of 1951. can you show me the portion of the constitution that granted the western region the powers to open an embassy in the UK since you claim that "FG business was National Defence ,Foreign Policy"?
2. I am asking you questions (which is is the foundation of research) on nairaland. is nairaland not on the internet?
3. how can you say the FGs business was "foreign policy" but western region had embassy in the UK. which "foreign policy" did western region have that enabled it open embassy in the UK?
4. what is a region and how are the 36 states and the FCT not regions?
5. how is a region having embassy the criteria for being autonomous?
6. oga, how can western region have an embassy in the UK when it was a part of the federal of republic of nigeria?
7. what portion of the 1960 independence constitution gave the western region the powers to have direct diplomatic relations with countries?
8. if you claim that the western region had an embassy n the UK, what about the northern and eastern regions?
9. did the western region have an embassy in the UK before 1960?
10. if it didnt, why?
11. are you saying that all the 36 states in nigeria dont have economic strengths they can focus on?
SatoshiX: How many separation of power did your heros past maintained? Even Okadigbo couldn't have a mind of his own. OBJ had to booted him out. How many Senate president served under Obasanjo?
does that change the fact that the legislature was created to serve as a check on the executive?
coleon: The system is also a part of the problem because this system promotes wastages, you cannot have a bicameral legislature, over bloated executives in a poor country like Nigeria and expect capital developments to flourish. At the end of every budget cycle more money is spent on reccurent useless things like buying of cars, feeding and foreign trips of politicians instead of actual projects that benefit the people, pls use your brain.
1. what is the name of the system that you say is rubbish?
tunjijones: There can never be meaningful development with this form of governance.
The country is too big for one person to rule. Break the country into 6 regions, each region having her own governor general that reports to the federal government.
Let each region make their own rules and law and develop at her own pace. Regional form of government will bring governance closer to the people.
How can same rule be governing people in sokoto, abakaliki, Ogbomosho, nembe, Maiduguri, kotangora. These people are not the same , they should be allowed to govern themselves even if hey will be in the same confederation.
what is the name "this form of governance" and what is wrong with it?
is it one person that is ruling nigeria?
are the 36 states and abuja not regions already?
if you say that "Regional form of government will bring governance closer to the people", is that not why there are local governments?
is nigeria not already practicing regional system of government?
what is stopping the 36states from making their own rules and law and developing at her own pace?
coleon: So what do you propose then? Is it not glaring that this present rubbish system is not working even to the blind? Perhaps, you did r read the text but he stated it there that he doesn't have all the answers and so do I but there definitely have to be a systemic change in Nigerias governance style cos it's presently heading for doom.
what is the name of the system that you say is rubbish?
zero8zero: Ok, compare the records 2015 to 2023 and now, let's see. How many times do you see weekly mass burials in Pleateu like it was in the past?. And tell us if Tinubu is championing ruga or asking Nigerians to learn to accommodate their killers.
very good.
so how has tinubu dealt with the following:
"corruption, nepotism, cronyism, hunger, unemployment, hardship, poverty, inflation, wasteful government spending, budget padding, insecurity, bad governance, failing public infrastructure, poor medial services and falling standard of education".
how well has he upheld the oath he swore on May 29, 2023:
Oath of Office of President
I, .............. do solemnly swear/affirm that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria; that as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I will discharge my duties to the best of my ability, faithfully and in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the law, and always in the interest of the sovereignty, integrity, solidarity, well-being and prosperity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; that I will strive to preserve the Fundamental Objectives and Directive Principles of State Policy contained in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; that I will not allow my personal interest to influence my official conduct or my official decisions; that I will to the best of my ability preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; that I will abide by the Code of Conduct contained in the Fifth Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; that in all circumstances, I will do right to all manner of people, according to law, without fear or favour, affection or ill-will; that I will not directly or indirectly communication or reveal to any person any matter which shall be brought under my consideration or shall become known to me as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, except as may be required for the due discharge of my duties as President; and that I will devote myself to the service and well-being of the people of Nigeria. So help me God.
77up: About 95% of the governor's are for Asiwaju All the ministers are for Asiwaju All the senators are for Asiwaju irrespective of their party All the rep are for Asiwaju irrespective of their party.
End of the road for Atiku and Obi, Asiwaju 8years is sacrosanct .
is it the end of the road for corruption, nepotism, cronyism, hunger, unemployment, hardship, poverty, inflation, wasteful government spending, budget padding, insecurity, bad governance, failing public infrastructure, poor medial services and falling standard of education?
OctavianAC: Democracy is actually very expensive. Imagine spending billions of naira just to rig, sorry conduct election to retain the same 1960s leaders, and servicing two NASS with billions of naira within every tenure. Meanwhile, these monies could have go for other infrastructural projects if we were practicing another type of government.
is it the nigerian state that is rigging or politicians?
TimeManager: They're jumping out before Obi would jump out before them. On a serious note, a lot of people took the muslim-muslim ticket personal, Plateau, especially took it very personal. They feared what they went through under the last Administration will be worse with the muslim-muslim ticket. But really, it was only a political campaign by the media against Tinubu/Shettima and the opposition milked it dry. Now, they could clearly see that the President has no agenda to islamize the country as being peddled. With this defection, all the stakeholders across the three senatorial districts in Pleateu state are back to APC. During the last election, I had a feeling APC would have it really tough in Pleateu state as all of them were dumping APC for Labour Party as they saw it as Christian vs Muslim war. Bwala, Dogara, Solomon Lar, that left because of muslim-muslim sentiments are back seeing that Tinubu is truly a man that protects all religious and ethnic interests.
-Kiss the truth!
what agenda does tinubu have?
does he have the agenda to give nigerians good governance or he is only interested in power?
does tinubu have the ability and agenda to stop corruption, nepotism and cronyism or to increase it?
does tinubu have the ability and agenda to reduce hunger, unemployment, hardship, poverty and inflation or to increase it?
does he have the ability and agenda to reduce wasteful government spending, budget padding or to increase it?
zero8zero: Mba, Soludo, Otti, these are SE opposition Governors inviting Mr President to their states. How many past Presidents enjoy this kind of courtesy?. Only delusion would make some people think this President has any opposition in 2027.
what about corruption, unemployment, inflation, wasteful government spending, impunity, budget padding, nepotism, cronyism, hardship, poverty, poor and failing public infrastructure, non existent government social services and insecurity?
are these not tinubus opposition since may 29, 2023?
TimeManager: You go explain tire. Person wey pass you, pass you. Gubernatorial election is local, you don't need the President to win it. These Governors basically just appreciate the President for his support towards them and you could see it all over them.
-Kiss the truth!
what is the support from tinubu towards them?
what exactly has tinubu done so far to make nigeria better and improve living standards?
