Nobel Laurette, Wole Soyinka has said that Nigeria can’t remain together unless the government is decentralized immediately

Soyinka disclosed that there was no need of Nigeria continuing together as one nation since the Federal Government fails to do the needful.

Speaking during an interview with Arise TV Soyinka said he doesn’t think Nigeria can continue as one. He said;

“Not if it continues this way. Not if it fails to decentralise. Some people use the word restructure, some people use the word…whatever. Not if it fails to decentralise.”

“If Nigeria fails to decentralise and I mean, decentralise as fast as possible, manifestly not rhetoric, then Nigeria cannot stay together.”

“Again this is not Wole Soyinka saying this. Generals have said it.”

Bandits on Monday abducted nine persons from a luxurious bus, in Okpella, in Edo North area of the State.

The State Police Command Spokesman, SP Kontongs Bello, disclosed this in a statement Monday evening.

He disclosed that the bus was traveling from one of the states to Abuja, when it was intercepted by the hoodlums at Okpella.

“Acting on credible information from members of the public that a luxurious bus belonging to a private company traveling from one of the Eastern States to Abuja, have been intercepted by group of hoodlums suspected to be kidnappers and taken to the bush, in Okpella area of Edo State, the DPO, Okpella Divisional Headquarters, CSP Kolawole Aremu, immediately swung into action by mobilizing his team from Okpella Division, Edo State Police Command and local vigilante group for immediate bush combing.

“The suspected kidnappers noticing the team of operatives in their den hurriedly abandoned the victims and escaped into the thick forest.

“The nine kidnapped victims were all rescued unhurt. They were advised to continue their journey after profiling them,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Philip Ogbadu, has enjoined the general public to continue to support the police by providing credible information that would help in the fight against crime and criminal elements in the state.

As Nigerians witnessed yet another independence day, the ghost of Biafra that was once deemed to have been exorcised has been resurrected and led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the imprisoned leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). It is now clear as the day that the platform upon which our nation was founded now provides the catalyst for our country’s volatility.

In the last seven years or so, demons of bloodbath have left the hottest part of hell to take permanent residence in our country. Most of their criminal activities have been concentrated in some parts of the North-west and North-central zone, popularly known as the Middle Belt Region that is inhabited by ethnic nationalities of the North.

Thursday September 30, 2021 will forever remain one of the highpoints of bloodstained status Nigeria has attained in barbarity. There has never been a comparison of the present massive destruction and devastations unleashed on vulnerable citizens and communities with the past. Our nation has become a political entity soaked with the blood of the innocent.

There is no event that has epitomized the tragedy of our existence as a bleeding nation than what happened the day before yesterday at the Government Secondary School Mallagum in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaura State. It was the first time I would witness the burial of more than one person. On Thursday, I was at the mass burial of 35 persons out of the 52 persons murdered in cold blood last Sunday September 26, 2021 in Madamai and Abum in Kaura LGA.

Before the attack on Madamai, the village had come under attack thrice by the vicious gang of herdsmen killers. On each occasion, the village had repelled the attackers and saved the day. However, last Sunday, the villagers were caught unawares by the angels of death who took advantage of the rains and hacked no fewer than 52 persons to death. Determined not to heed to pressure to dump corpses of their loved one without according them befitting, the communities organised a mass burial for their loved ones.

Last Thursday turned out to be a painful experience as the trucks bearing the 35 corpses made their way to the football field of GSS Mallagum for the mass burial. As the trucks arrived at the venue of the mass service a few minutes to 2pm, emotions ran high as cries of anguish from mourners rented the air. I saw a man appealing to grievers to play down their emotions as he tried to control them. Few minutes later, I saw the same man in his own little corner, far away from the crying women, wiping tears from both corners of his eyes.

The mass burial of Madamai and Abum massacred victims epitomizes the tragedy of a nation that has become a massive graveyard. Less than 12 hours to the mass burial, the media had reported that no fewer than 30 persons had been killed in Niger State. Many of the slain were displaced persons of Gbagyi ethnic group from Kaduna State who have become perennial victims of murderous assaults unleashed by bandits. The absence of any Kaduna State government’s officials in Mallagum reveals the depth of scorn and insensitivity the administration of Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai has for the Southern Kaduna people.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed 1,936 personnel to the roads in Edo and Benue to ensure a safe and hitch-free movement during the Eid-el-Kabir Sallah celebration.

In Benue, the Corps deployed 579 Regular Marshals and 107 Special Marshals while 1,250 personnel were deployed in Edo.

The Sector Commander in charge of Benue State, Yakubu Mohammed, in a statement made available to newsmen in Makurdi on Sunday and signed by the Command’s Public Education Officer (PEO), Arc Oladele Meshach, said the deployment was for patrol, rescue and traffic control.

He advised road users to cultivate the habit of discipline, be patient, maintain lane discipline and tolerance and obey traffic laws and FRSC operatives as they travel through the state.

Buhari, a tribal president, has alienated many groups in Nigeria —Northern Elders


The Northern Elders Forum has lamented that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has alienated many tribes and people of the country.

Spokesman of the group, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed who made this assertion while speaking during an interview on Arise television on Friday, lamented that Buhari’s government had played up tribal politics to a dangerous level.

He also stated that the present crop of leaders have run this country aground, while calling on Nigerians to ensure that consideration of tribe does not determine the emergence of a president, governor, or any other leader in 2021.


Reacting to a resolution by southern governors that the presidency should come from the south in 2023, Baba-Ahmed said the north is opposed to the call,

“Tribal politics not good for this country”, he stated.
