Foreign Affairs / Turkish Parliamentary Election Results 2011 by lgsky: 2:17am On Jun 13, 2011
The Turkish prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, appears on course to secure a third term in office, as results in parliamentary electons show the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) with an overwhelming lead.

However, the party looked set to fall short of its target of a two-thirds majority in Sunday’s parliamentary vote.

With 95 per cent of votes counted, AKP’s share was 50.4, while those of the two main opposition parties, the secularist CHP and the nationalist MHP, respectively stood at 25.8 and 13.1. Learn More: http://electionresults24.com/turkish-parliamentary-election-results-2011.html

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party, riding a wave of support from the pious poor and newly emergent Muslim middle class, defeated its opponents to hold a majority of parliamentary seats, setting up a third term for Erdogan.

No pressing matter of state like the economy or foreign policy compelled Alayrettin Ayyaldiz to head to a polling station in his modest Istanbul neighborhood Sunday and cast his ballot for Prime MinisterRecep Tayyip Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party. It was a vote of faith and emotion.

The new President has not been elected yet. The way the electoral system works here in Peru is that if there is no majority winner after the first vote is goes to a ‘segunda vuelta’ or a run-off. The two candidates who received the most votes in the first round go head-to-head in the second round and voters must choose one of them. The next phase of the election process will take place on June 5th.

Peru’s Presidential Election Results 2011
The results of the first vote, for many, have led to the worst possible outcome. As of approximately 5:30pm on April 11th about 87% of the votes have been counted. The leader, with 31.37% of the votes is Ollanta Humala of the party Gana Peru. Next, is Keiko Fujimori from Fuerza 2011with 23.223% of the vote. The early results showed Keiko and Pedro Pablo Kuczynski (PPK) neck and neck, but as more votes from the rural areas have come in the advantage has swung in Keiko’s favor. Currently PPK is in third place with 19.225%.

I looked for the El País elections results widget yesterday and couldn’t find it. Here it is, along with an ominous blue look to that electoral map. I imagine in PSOE headquarters they have trouble even looking at it.

The most interesting part of these elections, though, is the number of voters that did not practice their right to vote. This number totals to 113.216 (21,30%); a rather sizable percentage. This is a clear sign that voters started to lose faith in Cyprus’ political system and the involved politicians.

Of course, all of the politicians, elected or not, have been talking in the media about this high percentage; everybody promising to study this phenomenon and fix it (something I doubt) and many of them taking the blame on themselves
