@LilBabe1 I can confirm that this information is correct. It doesn't just apply in Calgary, it applies both in Edmonton (across Alberta).

I wanted to confirm from you based on your previous experience, it's the process of refund when you don't exhaust the 20k CAD easy, can someone help you to clear the cheque if you have already left Canada.

Also, please I will like to know the process of getting birth certificate, passport and visa on arrival timely, as my madam plans to leave Canada within 4 weeks after delivery. Thanks and waiting for your response
@djsaintboss:

Based on both my experiences, they always refund when you don’t exhaust the deposit made.

Refunds are processed within 10weeks after after the birth of the child. The second refund actually came in less than 10weeks after the birth of the child. They can issue you a cheque or send you a direct deposit. They’ll ask your preference for this. It its a cheque, someone can help you deposit this as well. But I guess a direct transfer will always be easier.

On the birth documents, you can process all within 4 weeks after delivery. I got mine under 4 weeks and left when the baby was 4 weeks. Its also faster to process when the father of the baby is around (in-country). But yes, its possible to process all within the 4 weeks timeframe.

You need to apply for the birth certificate online, as soon as the baby arrives. It takes less than a week for that to come in. Once you receive it, you can apply for the emergency travel certificate (ETC), there is no visa on arrival for babies. Note that you dont need a passport to apply for the ETC, so you can do both at the same time to meet the timeline you stated. The passport can be applied for at the relevant office closest to you and can be ready in days or weeks, depending on your travel itinerary and when you indicate you need the passport for. For ETC, you need to share all the requested information to Ottawa as indicated on the website- reach out to the airline to include the child in the itinerary because you would also need to send this. The ETC also took us 2 weeks as well. Once you receive the ETC and passport, you are good to roll.

I hope this helps.

Good evening All

Recall the post that mentioned that Medicom in Calgary has increased the deposit to $20k CAD.
This information is correct.

If you plan to birth in Calgary, note that you will now be required to deposit $20k CAD. An increase from the initial required deposit of $15k CAD.

The administrative fee has also increased from $300CAD to $1800 CAD.

The balance of your deposit will be refunded to you within 10 weeks after you have your baby.

Good morning sabi mamas

Please am 4 months gone nd I will like birth in Canada.

Pls how long is their processing time if i start the process now.

Please help a sis.

Also, can my husband business account statements be used as their no enough money on my salary account
It typically takes a long time to process. However, if you have a valid US visa, the processing time will be shorter. I hear that the current processing time for people with a US visa who apply using the relevant portal takes about 7 - 14 working days.

If you don’t have a valid US visa, then it will take a really long time to process.

Your husband’s bank statements can be used, just indicate that he is the sponsor of the trip when you are completing the forms and that should help.

Please did you pay medicom before you came into Calgary or did you pay after arrival? They don’t seem to attending to patients until you arrive Calgary. Thanks for the help
[quote author=Oma92 post=133750146]I paid Medicom after I arrived at Calgary. Once you arrive and reach out to Medicom, they will send you the relevant information.

I hope this helps

Hi am in Calgary as well, pls can we link up, have a pregnant wife too and am told I have to pay medical of 15k, pls lemme know if u have any other options or what ur process is so far
Hello

I recently had my baby in Calgary. The truth is that you need to pay the 15k deposit before you are attended to.

The 15k deposit covers the doctor’s fees, epidural/spinal and pediatric fees. It does not cover the hospital fees (which you will pay on a daily basis and the rates vary per hospital), laboratory works or ultrasound. Once you have put to bed, they will process your invoice and give you a refund (depending on how much you use). This reconciliation process takes about 10 weeks and I am waiting on their final invoice to determine the balance.

Also note that the hospital fees are seperate, depending on the hospital you are now assigned to, their fees varies and they charge for the Mother and Child separately. So there is a fee for the mother and the child.

You can consider other locations if you have time, especially locations in Alberta but not Calgary as the 15k initiative is only applicable in Calgary.

I hope this helps
