It is only in nigeria I have observed that the law is meant to be obeyed by some, while others, obviously are above the law. A typical example of this is my experience today with the so-called law enforcers in Edo state. They, according to reports I heard, are to embark on a one week "operation show your vehicle particulars". Because of this, alot of vehicle owners have chosen to leave their vehicles at home and make use of public transportation, not because they don't have their correct particulars, but because as soon as you are been stopped for check, either the road safety or the police or the vehicle inspection officers must find a fault in your vehicle. Today, something happened, they stopped a vehicle in my presence, after checking everything possible without a fault, they decided to check the tyres of the vehicle, and as usual, they claimed the tyres are expired, meanwhile, their own vehicle (the road safety) as well as that of the police, evidently had worn out tyres on their vehicles. So, my question is this, fellow nairalanders, who checks the checkers?

Nigeria, a country formerly referred to as the giant of Africa, one of the largest oil producing nations, at a time, amongst the fast developing nations of the world. All these were in the past. Nigeria, a country presently referred to as having the worse economy in Africa, solely dependant on oil, a country with a democratically elected military president, a country with the most travelled president, a country where all laws passed by its government are only applicable and enforced on the poor, ordinary people, as well as the opposition. A country with a government that claims to fight against corruption but on a closer look, is the real definition of corruption. A country where only the rich and influential can only be allowed to attend public universities. Presently, admission lists now come straight from abuja to various universities, as against the previous pattern of admitting the best after post-utme screening.
What then does the future holds for us and most especially for our children? Will the naira ever appreciate again? Will the economy ever become stable again?
The change we want is a positive one, not one that brings hardship, hunger and starvation to the masses. If the change must be all about fighting corruption, then, charity they say begins at home.
