Hi Linsigne,
I will not be giving a direct yes or a no to you question, instead, i will write out a scenario, you can then be the judge.

You can work 20 hours per week while school is in session; lets say 34 weeks, assuming you get a job that pays $12/hr (minimum wage varies per province and your take home depends on the job you get; this is just an assumption) = $8160

You can work full time (40 hours per week) during summer break; if you are not registered in school; lets say 18 weeks = $8640

Total cash = $16800

Sounds impressive right.

But here are things to consider:

-You can look forward to having that much if you get a job almost at the same time as your arrival which in most cases it is not always the situation (what happens if you ended up getting a job some months after you got in)

-You should have it at the back of your mind that not all jobs guarantee 20 hours per week; so what happens if you can't get one and it is difficult to joggle between two jobs?

-Don't forget you will pay tax out from your bi weekly (every two weeks) pay; although it is still regulated for low income earners

- If you are considering spending part of your earning for your rent and upkeep as well, then consider this analogy. If you are living in a $400 per month flat share (that's $4800/year) and upkeep of about $4000/year (feeding, travels, clothing, e.t.c); that takes about $9000 off the total earning.

So consider the if's and if not's; ask more question from people living in the province or locality of where you are going, read more online about it and i think it will help make an informed decision.

All the best
