Actually the Gripen is equipped with the ps-5/a mk 4 radar, which is able to identify an object with a 0.1m2 rcs at 120km, you seem like a decently educated guy, im sure you could work out at what range the Gripen can identify a j10 with a rcs of+- 4m2.

And also im guessing the j10 is equipped with the klj-3 radar (I might be wrong) and thus can detect a 3m2 object at 150km which is nice but the gripen has an rcs of about 0.1m2.
Even the superior j10 costs less 30-35 million $ but its maintenance cost is higher because its not a light attack aircraft but its comparable to f16 c/d

jln115:
Uhm.better bvr? How?
It can detect and destroy at 150 km while jas has a range of 130 km
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by litesea: 8:45am On Jun 28, 2015
jln115:
Thanks but the Gripen still has:
Better RCS
Better range
Better HMI
Better HMD
Better radar
Lower wing loading(thus better manoeuvrability)
Better AoA(thus better manoeuvrability)
Lower maintenance costs
Lower tame off and landing distance.

But I must say the 11 hard points on the j10 is impressive, BUT its low payload in relation to its size is definitely a negative.
Its faster, has better bvr the jas is a sitting duck
correction a pricey sitting duck

Who cares about technology transfer when it is of such poor quality? Basic early 90's F16 technology!

There was no SAAF defeat in the airwar
Of such poor quality?
Seriously a jet capable of air to air refueling, bvr, lgm, cruise missile is poor quality?

Early 90,s f16 was poor quality um f16 a/b still serve with most airforces

AugustineAgain:
Gripen buyers got ZERO technology transfer for a $68 million jet.

JF-17 buyers are offered technology transfer for a $25 million jet.

The Gripen exposes buyers to sanctions, like NATO did to South African Mirage jets during war with Cuba, leading to defeat of SAAF in the air
.
Plus you have to wait for EU to allow sale of missiles that will be used by gripen
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by litesea: 11:45am On Jun 27, 2015
jln115:
Oh? I should just trust you?

But the facts are:
The Gripen has a better HMI
Better HMD
better range
Lower stall speed
Lower wing loading, thus better manoeuvrability.
Better radar
Lower maintenance costs.
Shorter take off and landing distances
Better AoA.

Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by litesea: 11:41am On Jun 27, 2015
AugustineAgain:
Nigeria is listed as potential buyer of this stealth jet too.

I guess if NAF drops the Su-30 Flanker off the list of potentials, they might just go fully the PAF way.

JF-17 as 4th gen + J-20 stealth as 5th gen

24 units of the JF-17 and 6 units of the J-20 will give Nigeria the status of best air force in Africa
.
Thats the fc 31 not j20 china offered the j20 only to Pakistan and the fc31 isnt going to be ready before 2020 and china will first export them to Pakistan so Nigeria will have to wait for atleast 2013-24 for this

jln115:
I'm not under estimating it, but it is what it is, and what it is not, is as good as the Gripen.
Trust me a j10 can run over gripen any time of the week and after the number of crashes i think jf17 is a better option plus EU can sanction Nigeria and transfer of technology will definitely not be offered in case of gripen
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by litesea: 11:21am On Jun 27, 2015
AugustineAgain:
They are getting domestic production license, technology transfer makes it worth it.

The countries that are laughing at JF-17 Thunder have NEVER manufactured one 4th generation air superiority jet fighter in their history, now Myanmar is ahead of them while they laugh grin grin
.
The jf17 will replace mig 21/j7 for the entire world

Uhm? Why would we buy a Chinese copy of the euro fighter, If the Gripen is just as good/ even better in some aspects than the original?
Its comparable to F16 c/d and has a significant Israeli input don't underestimate the power of Chinese aircraft
