Manny Pacquiao blamed a shoulder injury for his defeat by Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas, claiming it stopped him from using his right hand. American Mayweather, 38, outclassed his Philippine rival at the MGM Grand and was awarded a wide unanimous decision. Pacquiao, 36, said he thought he did enough to win the fight, despite most observers agreeing with the verdict. "Three weeks before the fight I got a tear in my right shoulder," he said. "It got better but it wasn't 100%." Mayweather started the brighter of the two and rocked Pacquiao with a number of right hand counter punches in the early exchanges. The Filipino came back at the American in the fourth round, stunning Mayweather with a left hand and again in the sixth round but was never able to back it up and Mayweather ran out a comfortable winner on the judges scorecards. Mayweather Pacquiao Punches throws 435 429 Punches landed 148 81 Jabs thrown 267 193 Jabs landed 67 18 Pacquiao said he wanted to have an injection in the shoulder before the fight but the Nevada Athletic Commission refused. Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, claimed he informed the Commission of the injury five days ago and defended the decision not to cancel the fight, the most lucrative in boxing history. "Athletes always fight hurt and we felt the work that was done on the shoulder during training would enable him to use his right hand," said Arum. Commission chairman Francisco Aguilar said he first knew about the injury two hours before the fight, when Pacquiao's camp requested a doctor sit in his corner, a request that was denied. Mayweather, meanwhile, said he was carrying injuries to both arms and hands. "If he had come out victorious, I would have shown respect and said he was the better man," he said, after adding Pacquiao's WBO welterweight belt to the WBC and WBA titles he already owned. Mayweather, a five-weight world champion, also criticised those who doubted him, telling them he had made them "eat their words". "For years everyone said that I was scared and that I'd lose," said Mayweather, who is undefeated in 48 professional fights stretching back 19 years. "I made the non-believers into believers. I was the better man, the smarter fighter - more calculated, more patient. He was applying pressure but not landing many punches and I was just keeping my jab in his face."

John Terry took his goal tally for the season to seven Chelsea deserve "a lot of respect" after moving to within one victory of being crowned Premier League champions, says captain John Terry. Terry scored the Blues' second goal as they came from behind to beat Leicester City 3-1 at the King Power Stadium. He says they deserve credit after being taunted as "boring" by Arsenal fans. The former England captain, 34, said: "We've been the best side all season. We've been very good all season so let's hope we win it on Sunday." The title will be confirmed if the Blues beat Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Sunday (13:30 BST kick-off). Second-placed Manchester City, 13 points behind, cannot overhaul Chelsea but third- placed Arsenal, on the same points total as City, could theoretically pass them as they have a game in hand. Victory on Sunday would give manager Jose Mourinho his third Premier League triumph with the club, and the first since he returned for a second spell in charge. The Blues last won the title in 2009-10, when Carlo Ancelotti was manager. Leicester led at half-time but Didier Drogba equalised early in the second half before Terry and Ramires secured the victory. "We don't get enough credit," said striker Drogba, 37. "We are top of the league, we have the most points and people find us boring because we have been top since day one." Chelsea 'phenomenal' - Mourinho Mourinho, who described Drogba's equaliser as "gold for us", said his players had been "phenomenal" during "a month with problems". He added: "This was the month when people were waiting for Chelsea to slip up, to lose one game or draw. "We have played this month without Diego Costa and without Loic Remy, with no other solutions, but this small group were phenomenal. "We were phenomenal tactically, with team spirit, the way we defended, the way we were clinical with our goal and the stability we showed in every game." Mourinho called on Chelsea's fans to inspire the team over the finishing line on Sunday, saying: "I hope our fans walk up to Stamford Bridge not celebrating but to play the match with us and push the team - that is the spirit we have in our group." 'Worthy winners of the Premier League' Leicester manager Nigel Pearson dismissed suggestions Chelsea were somehow undeserving of the position they are in. "I've heard criticism of Chelsea recently and I find it bemusing to be honest," he said. "The best sides are able to win games in different ways and Chelsea illustrated that tonight. "I think they're a really good side and have some great players. I'm not oblivious to the views that were spouted at the weekend in terms of style of football but I'm a believer in winning games and that's it. "Before the game started we knew it was a case of when, rather than if, Chelsea win the title. The result did not necessarily reflect the balance of the game but we played against a very good side who will be worthy winners of the Premier League."

The Amnesty International (AI) has commended the Nigerian military for rescuing 293 women and girls from Boko Haram captivity, saying that apart from the Chibok girls, there are over 2,000 women in captivity. In a statement made available yesterday by its Africa Director, Research and Advocacy, Netsanet Belay, the Amnesty International described the rescue of the women and girls as an encouraging development, saying ,however, that it is "only a small step in securing the safety of the thousands of women and girls abducted by the armed group since 2014. The AI further called on the military authorities to ensure that the trauma of those 'rescued' is not exacerbated by lengthy security screening in detention. The statement reads in part, "This development is just cause for celebration and undoubtedly an immense relief to the women, girls and their families. But this is just the tip of the iceberg; there are thousands more women and girls, and men and boys who have been abducted by Boko Haram. "The military said they 'rescued' the women in an offensive against the armed group in the Sambisa forest area in the north-east. "According to a recent Amnesty International report, more than 2,000 women and girls have been abducted by Boko Haram. Drawing from interviews with those who escaped, the report reveals how civilians were executed, tortured, raped and forced into marriage in camps and towns controlled by Boko Haram. "In previous cases where women and girls have escaped from Boko Haram they have been detained for weeks on end for security screening. Amnesty International is calling on the authorities to ensure that their physical and psychological well-being is paramount.

Former PDP’s Vice President Atiku Abubakar told he admires the efforts made by troops of the Nigerian military in Sambisa forest to rescue 293 girls and women from the Boko Haram militants. However, he thinks military shouldn’t stop at that. Atiku Abubakar has expressed elation at the news of the rescue of nearly 300 girls and women from the Sambisa forest. Atiku Abubakar told he admires the troops of the Nigerian military, whose efforts led to rescuing 293 girls and women in Sambisa forest from the hands of the Boko Haram insurgents. However, he told they mustn’t stop at that point, because their final goal is to eliminate Boko Haram and to bring back all the abducted Nigerians including Chibok girls.

KATHMANDU, Nepal – A man pulled from the rubble of a collapsed hotel by a French rescue team more than three days after the deadly Nepal earthquake says he was forced to drink his own urine to survive. Rishi Khanal, 27, had just finished lunch at a hotel in Kathmandu and had gone up to the second floor when everything suddenly started to move and fall apart. He was struck by falling masonry and trapped with his foot crushed under rubble. "I had some hope but by yesterday I'd given up. My nails went all white and my lips cracked ... I was sure no one was coming for me. I was certain I was going to die," he told The Associated Press from his hospital bed on Wednesday, surrounded by his family. He was surrounded by dead people and a terrible smell. But he kept banging on the rubble all around him and eventually this brought a French rescue team that extracted him after an operation lasting many hours. By the time he was pulled out, he had been trapped — in what could have become his tomb — for 82 hours. "There was no sound going out, or coming in. I kept banging against the rubble and finally someone responded and came to help. I hadn't eaten or had anything to drink so I drank my own urine." It was not clear if he was a hotel employee or a guest. "It feels good. I am thankful," he said. He was taken away for surgery before more details could be obtained. More than 5,000 people are known to have died and over 10,000 injured in Nepal in the magnitude 7.8 earthquake. There were also deaths in India, Tibet and Bangladesh. Yo

Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade says Boko Haram members have resorted to using bows and arrows to carry out their attacks after running out of arms & ammunition. Olukolade said this while speaking to newsmen in Abuja today April 23rd. “The Boko Haram terrorists have run out of arms and ammunition because the usual supplies they get are not forthcoming. They now have only bow and arrows, machetes, daggers and other local weapons. You can find more than 500 of them with only few having rifles and even when one or two of them have rifles, they have no ammunition. I am optimistic that the military will succeed in killing many of these insurgents who have been terrorizing residents for the past three years.”he said
