The Network for the Advancement of Social and Political Sciences (NASP) is accepting applications for admission to the Ph.D. Programmes in: Economic Sociology and Labour Studies (13 scholarship positions) Political Studies (10 scholarship positions) Sociology and Methodology of Social Research (7 scholarship positions) NASP offers a total of 30 Ph.D. positions covered by scholarships. Full information on how to submit applications is provided by the Call for Application. NASP is a research-based training network that involves eight universities in Northern Italy: Brescia, Università Cattolica, Genova, Milano, Milano-Bicocca, Pavia, Piemonte Orientale and Torino. NASP is administratively based at the Department of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Milan (SPS). Economic Sociology and Labour Studies The mission of the programme is to give students both a strong disciplinary focus (in sociology, labour law, management and organizational behaviour, psychology of work) and a substantive attention to socio-economic behaviour and processes, in particular from the point of view of labour and organizations. Six broad areas of specialization are offered. Each student will choose the one who best suits her research interests and use it as a starting point for her research project. Of course trespassing and contamination are allowed and encouraged. Social institutions and the economy Labour studies Complex organizations Economic behaviour and social interaction Local development and global society Occupations, education and social stratification Political Studies The aim of the doctoral Programme is to train highly-skilled professionals who can undertake research within academic institutions, think tanks and research centers, as well as provide consultancy for political, economic, public or private organizations at the national and international levels. The programme offers a two-levels training: first, the acquisition of a common background on the most up-to-date knowledge and methods in the field of political science and political philosophy. Second, a more personalized training subdivided in four main paths of specialization, and the possibility to experiment cross-curricular paths linking together traditionally unrelated disciplines. These four main paths are: Institutions and Public Policy International Studies Public Opinion, Political Communication and Political Behaviour Political Theory Sociology and Methodology of Social Research The aim of the programme is to provide structured training in theoretically-guided empirical research across a wide range of sociological fields and to introduce students to current international debates in both qualitative and quantitative social research. Graduates from the programme will be able to compete successfully for positions as researchers (in public and private universities and research centres), skilled professionals and consultants in sociology to public agencies and international organizations and institutions in Italy and elsewhere in Europe. Research areas covered by the Ph.D. Programme now include: Cultural Processes. Media and the Public Sphere. Methodology of Social Research Social Change and Inequalities Urban Spaces In 2015-2016, the PhD programme offers 2 PhD positions for joint degrees with two LERU partner universities – Lund University and University of Amsterdam. All courses are taught in English for all of the Ph.D. Programmes, while the dissertation might be written in English as well as in Italian, depending on the topic and on the supervisor’s judgement. These so called Government Scholarships are designed to cover the standard length of study: In Bachelor/Master study programmes plus one-year preparatory course of the Czech language (which is combined with other field-specific training). Government scholarships of this category are awarded to graduates from upper secondary schools who can enrol only in study programmes in which they follow instruction in the Czech language. Depending on the subject area, applicants are normally required to take entrance examinations at the respective institution of higher education. The scholarship award is conditional upon a successful passing of entrance examinations. or In follow-up Master study programmes or Doctoral study programmes. Government scholarships of this category are awarded to graduates from Bachelor or Master study programmes, respectively, who enrol in study programmes with instruction in the English language. Scholarship applications together with the required attachments are to be submitted to the appropriate Czech Embassy in the applicant’s country before the deadline set by the Embassy so that the applicants’ dossiers reach the respective Czech authorities (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport). Each year, fellowships are offered to nationals of African countries (not including Egyptians) for full-time study in any of the graduate programs offered at AUC. Scholarship Application Eligibility Criteria: African nationals. B.A. or B.Sc. degree with grade not less than "Very Good", an overall GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent. TOEFL with TWE score of at least 550 and 4.5, (580 and 5.0 for ECLT & TEFL) or equivalent. Applicants for the MBA have to submit a recent score on the GMAT and have at least two years of relevant work experience. Applicants for the Economics program and the Economics in International Development program are required to obtain an acceptable score on the GRE. Applicants for the MA in Arabic Studies must submit evidence of proficiency in literary Arabic. Duration: Fellowships are awarded for two academic years and the intervening summer session. Award: The fellowship covers: A waiver of tuition fees. A monthly stipend of LE 735. If needed, a monthly housing allowance of LE 935. The Scholarship fund was established by a generous anonymous donation in honour of Kath Defilippi, the founding Board Chair of the African Palliative Care Association to recognise her many career achievements as a nurse in hospice and palliative care in Africa. Scholarships are awarded up to a maximum of US$ 4,000 through a competitive application process once a year. APCA and FHSSA give priority to requests of Registered and Enrolled nurses to pursue formal palliative care training in Africa. They are also willing to potentially consider one scholarship for a distance Learning Masters programme, when necessary for the career objective of the student (i.e. Registered or Enrolled Nurse) and in line with palliative care development in Africa. Application requests will also be considered for travel for palliative care conferences judged to be of interest to the development of palliative care in Africa. Africa Nursing Scholarship: What the Scholarship Fund Will Support The Scholarship fund will support: [/b]A contribution of up to US$4,000 per person for palliative care education and training at recognised institutions in Africa for Enrolled and Registered Nurses. Africa Nursing Scholarships & Grants: Application Criteria Applicants must: Be a Registered Nurse or an Enrolled Nurse residing and practicing in Africa and with evidence that they will be able to continue providing palliative care after their training (please provide a supporting letter from head of your institution confirming this). Female researchers are especially encouraged to apply for these scholarships. What is covered by the scholarship The Guest Researcher’s scholarship includes a return air-fare (Economy Class), accommodation, a subsistence allowance of SEK (Swedish kronor) 250 (approx.
