A 48-year-old popular radio preacher and founder of Gospel Fire Army Ministry, Nkwele-Ogidi, Anambra State, Chinedu Strongson, has been arrested in connection with child abduction and trafficking in persons.

The cleric was paraded on saturday at the police headquarters, Asaba, Delta State, along with 43 other criminals arrested for kidnapping, robbery, murder, cultism and car theft. According to the state police commissioner, Zana Ibrahim, who paraded the suspects, 12 stolen children were rescued from the pastor, adding that he allegedly paid N400,000 for each child sold to him..

However, the pastor denied any involvement in child trafficking, saying that his business was to help humanity including payment of school fees for children.

Trouble started for the pastor when one Aisha Yahaya of Asaba reported how two ladies came to her house as police detectives sent by her husband now serving at Ogwashi Uku prisons. Aisha disclosed that she followed them to a junction where they met one Abigail Nwakama, also known as Madam Cash, who gave her N3,500 to alleviate her poverty and asked her to buy clothes for her one -month-old daughter.

Chinedu-walth In the process, the said child was allegedly stolen by the syndicate, prompting her to raise the alarm which led to the arrest of the two ladies. Based on the report, the commissioner said detectives swung into action and arrested one Onyinye Nwakama, daughter of Madam Cash, at a drinking bar in Asaba.

Also arrested were Madam Cash (32 years) and Ifeoma Anyadike, (32) at Okpanam before they led detectives to Ogidi where the pastor was arrested. Others arrested from different locations are David Ikesinachi; Ebere Edwin, Adaeze Enyi and Chike Agwunenu.

Two of the rescued children, the commissioner of police said, had been handed over to their parents while the remaining were kept at an orphanage in Asaba pending identification by their families.

If few states have had oil that has taken care of the nation's fuel demands and exportation for revenue generation over the years then,it is possible for some few states to achieve our internal food demands and subsequent exportation.

In view of the economic recession, Darius Ishaku, Taraba state governor, has said that his state has diversified into tomatoes, rice and tea production, Leadership reports. The governor speaking to State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa noted that Taraba state is known for agriculture, mining and tourism.

According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari has set the course by diversification and Taraba is working on diversification.

Ishaku said: “Our problem is finance but we are doing our best in spite of the financial crunch and very soon we will start to get one or two of the plants or industries that were otherwise closed down, vandalized and looted completely. We want to start them going and that is why going to Germany was very useful to me.

“Already, we have started the green house project which Israelis are building for us and we are going to be bringing in tomatoes here. “By January, you will see fresh tomatoes made in Taraba. Taraba rice is working but we are working on a bigger one. We are working on other fields as the corn and we are working and making sure that we have a lot of plantation. Of course, the Highland tea.

“I have just come from India, Dazley, where they are planting tea. We should be able to work on the tea so that the whole Island will be filled with tea. Our tea is registered as the second best in the world after Sri Lanka,” he added.

Meanwhile, the governor said the 3050 WM Mambilla power project would soon come on stream. 40 Chinese engineers visited the site located at Gembu accompanied by officials from the Federal Ministry Power, Works. He said: “By the grace of God it will soon start. We are working hard toward its commencement and that will add 3050 megawatts to the grid and help the country in power requirements. It is one of the things that we will have to work seriously to make sure that the power shortage is stopped in the country.”

A pilgrim heading to Medina, Saudi Arabia, to perform the annual pilgrimage has tested positive to narcotic ingestion at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency said in a statement Friday.

Basira Binuyo, 55, was arrested during the outward screening of passengers on an Emirate flight to Medina through Dubai.
“She has so far excreted 76 pellets of drugs that tested positive for cocaine,” said Hamisu Lawan, NDLEA commander at the Abuja airport.

“Meanwhile, she is still under observation until the drugs are completely expelled.”
Mrs. Binuyo hails from Irepodun local government area of Kwara State and is married with three children.


Mrs. Binuyo, a trader at Dosumu market, Lagos, was quoted as saying she needed money to expand her business.
“I wanted to expand my cosmetic business but I have no money,”she said. “My sponsor offered to foot my expenses to Saudi on pilgrimage. I was excited until I was asked to take drugs along.
“I wanted to decline but considering the offer of a million naira, I accepted. I swallowed the drugs in Lagos and took flight to Abuja on my way to Medina but I was caught in the process.” mrs binuyo basira iyabo

Facebook user Jaafar Jaafar shared the post of his friend Rufa’i Dabo, who wrote an interesting post after he visited Bagwai and Shanono LGAs in Kano.

The man claims that these two villages are abundant of discovering gold and other natural resources. According to him the only problem is that the locals can only dig a little as they do not have the modern equipment to assist them in mining these mineral resources.
He also shared photos of the villagers digging and searching for gold in the rivers where they think the gold could have been stuck.

“Fifteen kilometres into the dense farmland, lays a deposit of gold right under our noses. Gold is mined by locals in limestone rocks and shallow ditches. Sometimes it is washed away by running water as “alluvial gold”.

“Locals use makeshift equipment and primitive tools to dig or trap gold from running water. Hundreds of ditches have been dug and left uncovered, posing a major environmental challenge.
“The locals have done all they could for government intervention by securing a mining license and getting investors that can give them jobs and provide the much needed infrastructure (roads, schools, etc) as corporate social responsibility.
According to the locals, it is sold @ N10,000 per gram and N2,000 per 50kg of unprocessed and unrefined limestone rocks. At the moment there is no case of lead poisoning but the environment is ravaged by gullies and erosion.”

A Kenyan woman, on Friday was openly disgraced after she was caught picking somebody's pocket in a busy Kenya Commercial Bank banking hall, on Thursday.

Worried by the harsh economic realities which have rendered many homes unable to afford a square meal, Cross River state governor, Ben Ayade has proposed a bill seeking to protect the rights of street hawkers in the state. The governor who is also conscious of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) which the state has since domesticated, said the proposed bill to be known as hawkers protection bill, will allow only adults of 18 years and above in reflective vest to hawk at designated time and locations to guarantee survival devoid of violation.

The aim of the law according to the governor, is to protect the rights of the down trodden and change the economic fortunes of poor households as well as bring dignity to Africa’s most populous form of trading.

Governor Ayade who disclosed this in Calabar, while signing the homeland security service bill and eight others into law said “this one bill after my heart, which I must ensure its enactment and implementation within the shortest possible time.”

“The supremacy of government does not allow it to know the agony of the down trodden which is why hawking is being prohibited and hawkers subjected to merciless whips at all times by law enforcement agents.

“Why must we deny a man or woman the right to earn a living simply because he or she does not have money to rent a shop? “Hawking is an African thing and we cannot shy away from the fact that at some point in our lives, we have been at our lowest levels. Personally, I have hawked before,” he said. He said it was wrong to prohibit hawking outright, given the circumstances most Nigerians have found themselves.
Ayade also said the bill is key to Cross River state government which only needs to be regulated to work. Offering further insight, Ayade explained, “we want a law that will make hawking legal and provide clear terms and conditions under which you can hawk. I will provide specific hawking corridors to protect the rights of the down trodden.

“It is unheard off, that a tourism state will encourage hawking but I assure you that we will by this new bill modernize hawking and make it more attractive in a manner that many will take to it even for leisure.”

However, speaking about his personal life and enunciating some of the benefits he derived while as a hawker, he said, “my childhood poverty that made me hawk has today contributed immensely to my intellect, strength, capacity and sanity that made me understand, in spite of my today’s position, that I still have humility which is why God has charged me to be a vehicle for the protection of the poor.

Late Bola Ige was governor of Oyo state during the second republic (1979-1983) and during his era, students enjoyed free education. In 1981 he wrote this beautiful letter to students enjoying the free education in Oyo State, as they were about to go for their long holidays.

According to the letter, he said: “My dear child, you have just complicated the first year of your secondary school education; I hope you had a very useful school year and laid a good foundation for your career. Senator Joseph Waku, a former chairman, Senate Committee on Water Resources, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to probe former President Olusegun Obasanjo or forget about his anti-corruption war. According to Waku, Obasanjo introduced corruption to Nigeria, and so Nigerians would not take President Buhari’s fight against corruption seriously if Obasanjo was left untouched, The Punch reports.

Speaking with newsmen at the Annual General Assembly of the Arewa Consultative Forum on Tuesday, August 23, in Kaduna, Waku said: “Look, I am 70 years old now and have been in this game for more than 50 years.

“Therefore, there is no way I can just look at some totality of what people are saying about corruption and believe it as it has been reported to me. If I have an investigating mechanism, I know that this accusation is real obviously. “I have access to authority. I have access to Mr. President. I told Mr. President that this corruption probe of past regimes, if you don’t probe Obasanjo, then you haven’t done anything yet. Corruption in Nigeria was introduced by Obasanjo.”

Waku who served as a senator in the fourth republic and is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, noted that without Buhari, the ruling party would lose the 2019 general election. He said the party won the 2015 election because most of the politicians on the platform of the APC rode on Buhari’s honesty to win the 2015 election. The call for Buhari to probe Obasanjo comes just after the former president denied media reports claiming he and a few Nigerians brought President Muhammadu Buhari to power. According to him, no individual or group including himself can lay claim to bringing to power. Obasanjo said Nigerians overwhelmingly voted for Buhari, hence, no one could claim to have brought him to power.

Four police officers walked up to the middle aged woman, who had been quietly sunbathing on the Promenade des Anglais Beach, and made her remove a modesty garment on the spot.

OGUN- A pastor of Elohim Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Joseph Olude has been arrested for robbery in the Hunbe area of Ogun state.

The 45-year-old pastor was arrested alongside his church member, Rasak Raheem on Thursday, August 11 by operatives of the Zonal Intervention Squad of the Zone 2 police command, Onikan, for allegedly robbing in the Idiroko-Oke Odan area. Policemen were said to have swooped on them after they received information that a robbery gang was operating in the Idiroko-Oke Odan area, and dispossessing motorists of their valuables.

The police arrested the duo while other members of the gang fled. While parading the suspects at the state police headquarters on Sunday, the Zone 2 police spokesperson, SP Muyiwa Adejobi, said the Assistant Inspector-General of police (AIG), Abdulmajid Ali, had ordered a thorough investigation into the case.

He said: “The suspects operated along border areas of Ogun State, Benin Republic and even Togo. The ZIS operatives were detailed to the scene and they arrested the two suspects along Madoga Road between Nigeria and the Benin Republic. “Effort is on to arrest the fleeing members of the gang,” the spokesperson added, noting that the police recovered one AK-47 rifle fully loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition, and 15 extra AK-47 ammunition from the suspects.

Olude, a father of five children, told newsmen that Raheem (his accomplice), came to his church for a special prayer. According to him, he did not know that Raheem and his friend, one Bidemi, were armed robbers and kept guns on the church premises. Olude said: “I have five children. I was arrested when the police found five guns on my premises. It was my church member, Bidemi, who invited Raheem.

On his part, Raheem said the pastor was aware that some robbers brought guns to keep with him in the church, adding that the gang gave him (Raheem) N20, 000. The Abeokuta state-born told newsmen, “The pastor and I are friends.

I went to his church and a man called Bode from Cotonou brought the guns. I told the pastor that the guns were for safekeeping in the church and he said there was no problem. “About two weeks ago, Bidemi called me that he wanted to use the guns around the border area. I said he should bring N10, 000 when coming and he agreed. “The robbers collected the guns and when they were done with them, they paid another N10, 000. I knew they used the guns to rob. It was a five-man gang,” Raheem hinted.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, August 10, the Lagos state police command paraded a fake prophet who was reported to have kidnapped a 16-year-old female Muslim. The 26-year-old suspect by the name David Ifunaya was said to be a prophet at Immaculate Ministry in Satellite Town area of Lagos state.
