Today, January 20, is a day many Americans will not forget. Donald J Trump against all odds is to be sworn in as the 45th president of the United States of America. For every American president, the inaugural address is a huge part of this day and Trump is no exception. He has been preparing his speech for quite a while and he even tweeted about it: As we look forward to bringing you the entire coverage of the inauguration, here are some of the most unforgettable speeches by American presidents: 1. Longest Inaugural speech The longest ever inaugural address was given by William Henry Harrison’s in 1841. He delivered the 1 hour 45 minute oration without wearing a hat or coat in a howling snowstorm, came down with pneumonia, and died one month later. His was also the shortest tenure in the white house. 2. Shortest Inaugural speech The shortest inaugural address in history was George Washington’s, in 1793. Yet he had the most important administration in American history. After which, George Washington added the words “so help me God” to the oath of office, the original text of which is prescribed by the U.S. Constitution, then he bent forward to kiss the Bible. 3. Most unforgettable moment The most striking moment in an inaugural address, was when Dwight D. Eisenhower asked listeners to bow their heads and said: "Would you permit me the privilege of uttering a little private prayer of my own?” Reference to God, or asking for God’s blessings on the United States, has been a normal part of all 55 inaugural addresses. But that was the first time a president prayed. 4. Funniest line in an inaugural speech The funniest line in a presidential inaugural address was by the eighth president, Martin Van Buren. He inadvertently made the audience laugh when he said: “Unlike all who have preceded me, the Revolution that gave us existence as one people was achieved at the period of my birth; and whilst I contemplate with grateful reverence that memorable event….” Van Buren actually meant that he revered the American Revolution, but to the audience it sounded as if he revered his own birth. 5. Most surprising moment during an inaugural speech Dwight Eisenhower, who was himself born in Texas was at his inaugural ceremony on January 20, 1953, a cowboy rode up to him on a horse, produced his rope, and after swinging it in the air, threw it at the president and tied him up. 6. Rowdiest inauguration The rowdiest inaugural celebration was that of Abraham Lincoln, the crowd grew so massive, then the drinking started and eventually the police had to be called in to control the crowd. 7. Most memorable line from an inaugural speech The line from John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address on January 20, 1961, was so powerful , it continues to be used by many today. Kennedy challenged fellow citizens: “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.” |

Mexico’s wealthiest person lost $5.1 billion in the wake of Donald Trump’s stunning upset over Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. Carlos Slim, who is fifth-richest in the world, shed 9.2 percent of his fortune after the peso dove as much as 12 percent on the news. Slim led declines of $41 billion on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index at the start of U.S. trading Wednesday. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index was down 1.1 percent at 10 a.m. in New York. Stock markets across the globe wavered on news that the New York real estate mogul would become the 45th U.S. president. The index decline almost reversed the $57 billion increase the world’s richest saw earlier in the week when markets rose on expectations that Clinton would prevail. The 10 Mexican billionaires on the index dropped a combined $6.5 billion in early trading. Eva Gonda Rivera, Mexico’s fourth-richest person, followed Slim with a $487 million loss while Lorenzo Servitje Sendra, the fifth richest, shed $397 million. U.S. billionaires, who account for one-third of the Bloomberg wealth ranking, had the biggest dollar loss, falling $9.3 billion. The combined net worth of the billionaires on the index fell 0.9 percent to $4.4 trillion at the start of trading in New York

1.Arooing This is a nice name for catcalls and as you can already guess, the females suffer the more!It happens mostly when you pass through “certain” male hostels. In normal cases, funny, absurd, sexist and sexual comments are made by the guys to the girls from their room windows or corridors. In extreme cases of boredom, the guys actually follow the girls and accompany them with songs and drumming (you’ll believe it when it happens to you). This could be fun, but also extremely embarrassing. Quick question though;Who does it better?Zik guys or Indy guys?I vote Indy. 2.Those special courses! You don’t have to get them registered on your course form because they’re not the kind of “courses” you have in mind. Its simple;Talking to the opposite sex in front of a female hostel! So the name of the hostel determines the course code eg Awo 101, Idia 205 .In my secondary school , this used to be called “spinning”…the world is truly evolving! 3.The fear of erosion! No, we’re not worried that the topmost layer of the earth would be washed away(I mean we care about the environment, but not that much).Instead, we’re worried that if we don’t meet the unit requirement of certain courses in our department, we would be eroded to another department! How cool is it?Going from Pharmacy to sociology?(No offense of course but its not just what a nigga chose). The whole thing kinda looks like this. 4.The fear of tsunami! The fear of tsunami is the beginning of wisdom! Water is not going to rise to great height and swallow you but the school work can rise to the heavens and fall on your delicate head such that, you cease to exist in that realm. In other words, you get kicked out of school! So its more like this… 5.Those Overrated Places… There are a lot of them and I’ll leave that to uites to tell me in the comment box but personally, I can’t decide which of these two should top my list; Spices or The zoological garden? PS: The botanical garden is not even ‘rated’ at all! |
