We have the "DVD-R", "DVD+R", "DVD+RW" and "DVD-RW". So what's the difference between these names?? aren't all DVD the same?? Well you will figure that out yourself when you finish reading this post. Starting with the similar alphabet in there names, some have "R" and some have "RW". The "R" stands for "Readable" while the "W" stands for "Writeable". DVD+R and DVD-R A DVD+R and DVD-R are disc storage formats that can be written only once and read as many times as possible. I.e once it has been written, it can not be erased through it entire digital life. This is similar to a type of computer memory chip called "PROM : Programmable Read Only Memory" which cannot be erased or deleted once it is programmed. DVD-RW and DVD+RW The DVD-RW and DVD+RW are disc storage formats that can read and written multiple times. It is recommended for a routine system backup. They can be called "rewriteable" combination of readable and writeable. Note: The DVD-R and DVD-RW are sister discs, the difference is just that one is writeable once and the other one is writeable many times. Same thing applys to DVD+R and DVD+RW. What you need to know about the one of "minus(DVD-R/DVD-RW)" and "plus (DVD+R/DVD+RW)" * The DVD-R/RW standard was developed by Pioneer, and is used primarily by Apple and Pioneer. These "minus" discs can only be written to in one layer on the discs surface. In addition, this format is supported by the DVD forum, but is in no way an industry standard. DVD-R/RW discs are cheaper than the "plus" format. * The DVD+R/RW format is supported by Philips, Dell, Sony, HP, and Mcft. These discs can be written to in multiple layers, giving them slightly better and more disc storage than the "minus" format. Because of this additional capacity, they are slightly more expensive than "minus" discs. SOURCE: http://starxclusive.com/the-difference-between-dvd-r-dvdr-dvdrw-and-dvd-rw/ |
One of the characteristics of a computer system is speed, so if your own computer has loses it's speed then you have a problem. In some computer cases, if i'm to boil water and power on some PC surely my water would boil even before some pc finish booting to window enviroment. The slow booting of a computer system to the window enviroment can be traced to some software which would run automatically as soon as you power on your computer which are located at the bottom right hand corner of the computer screen. This can be fixed by clicking on few things.. Steps to make pc boot faster: (1) Click on "START BUTTON" and navigate to "run" (2) Then type: Msconfig and click run (3) A window will pop up then click "STARTUP" (4) Now you would be presented with bunch of filenames and addressess and boxes with checks in them. Uncheck all the boxes(if possible) then click apply and ok. Now the computer will ask if you will like to restart. Restart the system and the settings will kick in. Note: You can use a software called "BOOTVis" to speed up booting automatically" SOURCE: http://starxclusive.com/how-to-speed-up-a-slow-computer/ |

1. Click on "Start" in the bottom left hand corner of screen 2. Click on "Run" 3. Type in "command" and hit ok You should now be at an MSDOS prompt screen. 4. Type "ipconfig /release" just like that, and hit "enter" 5. Type "exit" and leave the prompt 6. Right-click on "Network Places" or "My Network Places" on your desktop. 7. Click on "properties" You should now be on a screen with something titled "Local Area Connection", or something close to that, and, if you have a network hooked up, all of your other networks. 8. Right click on "Local Area Connection" and click "properties" 9. Double-click on the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" from the list under the "General" tab 10. Click on "Use the following IP address" under the "General" tab 11. Create an IP address (It doesn't matter what it is. I just type 1 and 2 until i fill the area up). 12. Press "Tab" and it should automatically fill in the "Subnet Mask" section with default numbers. 13. Hit the "Ok" button here 14. Hit the "Ok" button again You should now be back to the "Local Area Connection" screen. 15. Right-click back on "Local Area Connection" and go to properties again. 16. Go back to the "TCP/IP" settings 17. This time, select "Obtain an IP address automatically" tongue.gif 18. Hit "Ok" 19. Hit "Ok" again 20. You now have a new IP address With a little practice, you can easily get this process down to 15 seconds. P.S: This only changes your dynamic IP address, not your ISP/IP address. If you plan on hacking a website with this trick be extremely careful, because if they try a little, they can trace it back Source: http://www.nigerianblog.net/how-to-change-your-ip-in-less-than-1minute |

1. BIOS settings Every motherboard is supplied with a range of chipset settings that are decided in the factory. A common way to access these settings is to press the F2 or delete button during the first few seconds of a boot-up. Once inside the BIOS, great care should be taken. It is a good idea to write down on a piece of paper all the settings that appear on the screen. That way, if you change something and the computer becomes more unstable, you will know what settings to revert to. A common BIOS error concerns the CAS latency. This refers to the Ram. Older EDO (extended data out) Ram has a CAS latency of 3. Newer SDRam has a CAS latency of 2. Setting the wrong figure can cause the Ram to lock up & freeze the computer’s display. Mcft Windows is better at allocating IRQ (interrupt request channel) numbers than any BIOS. If possible set the IRQ numbers to Auto in the BIOS. This will allow Windows to allocate the IRQ numbers (make sure the BIOS setting for Plug & Play OS is switched to ‘yes’ to allow Windows to do this.). 2. Hard disk drives After a few weeks, the information on a hard disk drive starts to become piecemeal or fragmented. It is a good idea to defragment the hard disk every week or so, to prevent the disk from causing a screen freeze. Go to * Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-Disk Defragmenter This will start the procedure. You will be unable to write data to the hard drive (to save it) while the disk is defragmenting, so it is a good idea to schedule the procedure for a period of inactivity using the Task Scheduler. Some lockups and screen freezes caused by hard disk problems can be solved by reducing the read-ahead optimisation. This can be adjusted by going to * Start-Settings-Control Panel-System Icon-Performance-File System-Hard Disk. Hard disks will slow down and crash if they are too full. Do some housekeeping on your hard drive every few months and free some space on it. Open the Windows folder on the C drive and find the Temporary Internet Files folder. Deleting the contents (not the folder) can free a lot of space. Empty the Recycle Bin every week to free more space. Hard disk drives should be scanned every week for errors or bad sectors. Go to * Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-ScanDisk Otherwise assign the Task Scheduler to perform this operation at night when the computer is not in use. 3. Viruses Often the first sign of a virus infection is instability. Some viruses erase the boot sector of a hard drive, making it impossible to start. This is why it is a good idea to create a Windows start-up disk. Go to * Start-Settings-Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs Here, look for the Start Up Disk tab. Virus protection requires constant vigilance. A virus scanner requires a list of virus signatures in order to be able to identify viruses. These signatures are stored in a DAT file. DAT files should be updated weekly from the website of your antivirus software manufacturer. An excellent antivirus programme is McAfee VirusScan by Network Associates ( www.nai.com). Another is Norton AntiVirus 2000, made by Symantec ( www.symantec.com). 4. Printers The action of sending a document to print creates a bigger file, often called a postscript file. Printers have only a small amount of memory, called a buffer. This can be easily overloaded. Printing a document also uses a considerable amount of CPU power. This will also slow down the computer’s performance. If the printer is trying to print unusual characters, these might not be recognised, and can crash the computer. Sometimes printers will not recover from a crash because of confusion in the buffer. A good way to clear the buffer is to unplug the printer for ten seconds. Booting up from a powerless state, also called a cold boot, will restore the printer’s default settings and you may be able to carry on. 5. Overheating Central processing units (CPUs) are usually equipped with fans to keep them cool. If the fan fails or if the CPU gets old it may start to overheat and generate a particular kind of error called a kernel error. This is a common problem in chips that have been overclocked to operate at higher speeds than they are supposed to. One remedy is to get a bigger better fan and install it on top of the CPU. CPU problems can often be fixed by disabling the CPU internal cache in the BIOS. This will make the machine run more slowly, but it should also be more stable. 6. Power supply problems If PHCN are always unstable as usual, then you should consider buy a UPS.This will give you a clean power supply when there is electricity and also gives you some minutes to save your data after power have been seized. It is a good investment if your data are critical, because a power cut will cause any unsaved data to be lost. Hello.Today am ganna be showing you the two easiest ways of creating your own wordpress website using the automatic method and the manual method. Don’t forget to share with your friends and also drop a comment if you need any other help. Once you’ve bought your domain name and set up your hosting or if you are using a free hosting website, you’re well on your way! Now it’s time to get your website up and running. The first thing you’ll need to do is install WordPress to your domain. There are two possible ways to install WordPress, one MUCH easier than the other. The AUTOMATIC METHOD and The MANUAL METHOD. I would be starting with the automatic method. So lets begin!!! THE AUTOMATIC METHOD Almost every reliable and well-established hosting company has integrated 1-click-installation for WordPress, which makes getting going a snap. Here are the steps you should follow (should be similar/same on all the major web hosting companies): -Log in to your hosting account. -Go to your control panel. -Look for the “WordPress” icon and click it. -Input your desired administrator username and password -Choose the directory where you want to install your website(you should input /public_html if you wabt wordpress to be your main website. But if you wabt it in a folder you should input /public_html/foldername) -Click the “Install Now” button and you should get access to your NEW WordPress website. THE MANUAL METHOD If for some odd reason (some hosting companies don’t have one-click-install for WordPress) you don’t have the possibility to install WordPress automatically, you should follow this guide To start the installation process, first you need to download WordPress from http://www.wordpress.org /download.We recommend that you always download and install the latest stable version of WordPress. Once you click on the Download button for the latest WordPress version, extract it into you website public_html or any other folder you wish. Now you need to create a Mysql Database by just logging into your hosting site Cpanel, navigate to mysql database abd click it,create a mysql database and a mysql database use and set the user to all permissions Once you create your MySQL Database and User, make sure you write down the database name, database username and password you’ve just created. You will need those for the installation process. Now it’s time to navigate to your website to start with the installation process. If you have uploaded WordPress in your public_html directory you’ll need to go to http://yourdomain.com in your preferred browser. The first thing you will notice is a message, telling you that you don’t have a wp-config.php file and you should create one. Just click on the Create a Configuration File button to proceed. On this page you will see a message, asking you to prepare the necessary information for the installation. Since we already have this information, simply press the Go! button. Enter the details for your newly created MySQL database and press the Sumbit button WordPress will now check if your settings are correct. If you have entered all the necessary information, you will see a confirmation screen. Press the Run the Install button to proceed. On the next screen you will have to enter the information about your administrative username and the title of your new site. In addition, you can specify whether you’d want search engines to index your site or not. Once you fill in that information, press the Install WordPress button. Bear in mind, however, that you should specify a real email address. It can be later used in case you forget your password. Your new WordPress application is installed. You can use the Login In button to access your administrative backend and start posting in your new site. In Our Next Tutorial We Would Be Talking About Choosing A Good Theme For Your Website!!
