The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, which has been engaged in a protracted conflict with the Federal Government, has announced that the strike will continue indefinitely, despite the fact that university students have been at home for more than seven months. Who suffers when some demand for ASUU’s ouster and others claim they are fighting for a noble cause? Obviously, the students! Some stakeholders have harped on the necessity for higher school fees, saying that the current fees are unsustainable, in order to put an end to this conflict between two elephants while the grass suffers. On the other hand, some contend that increasing tuition fees is not the answer because doing so would result in a large number of students quitting school because their low-income parents would find it difficult to pay the new tuition costs. They contend that universities should find more innovative ways to raise money internally rather than raising tuition. As Professor Tukur Sa’ad correctly noted, money is the “magic wand” that propels the university system, and Oclocknews‘s report on Nigeria’s tertiary education sector solicited the opinions of professionals and parents on how to address this issue. The failure of the FG to sign the 2009 renegotiated FGN/ASUU Agreement, implement the Memorandum of Action (MoA) agreed to with the Union on December 23, 2020, replace the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) platform with the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS), and pay arrears of minimum wage are among the complaints made by ASUU. ASUU President Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke declared that none of the problems identified in the December 2020 FGN-ASUU MoA that forced our Union to resume the suspended strike have been satisfactorily addressed by the Government to this point. https://oclocknews.com/ASUU-strike-all-you-need-to-know/ |
The Nigerian government must meet new demands from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in order to put an end to the six-month-long academic strike. ASUU President Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke stated on Channels Television’s Politics Today that the government must be transparent in order to put an end to the ongoing strike. “Government should disclose to us and Nigerians the amount and location of the money purportedly granted for revitalization. When will it be made available? stated Osodeke. The University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS), a payroll system that ASUU wants to replace the Integrated Payroll and Personnel information system, must be unambiguously endorsed by the government, according to Osodeke (IPPIS). “Third, have they endorsed the compromise we came upon with their panel? Instead of going to the press, they ought to come to us and tell us this, Osodeke continued. “A strike is a sign of a larger issue. You won’t have a strike any day you solve that issue. The majority of oral health issues, including tooth decay and cavities, affect both adults and children. Foods that stick to your teeth for a long time, frequent snacking or drinking, poor oral hygiene, inadequate fluoride intake, dry mouth, worn fillings, or dental appliances, among many other things, might increase your chance of developing cavities. When oral problems emerge, it is always important to visit a dentist, but these DIY solutions are also effective (note that it’s best to see your dentist if symptoms persist) Look into natural cures for cavities and tooth decay. 1. Salt Due to its antiseptic and antibacterial qualities, salt can also be utilized to cure cavities. It can lessen discomfort, draw out an infection, lessen inflammation, and stop the growth of bacteria in the mouth. One teaspoon of salt should be dissolved in a glass of warm water. Concentrating on the damaged tooth, swish a mouthful of this fluid around in your mouth for one minute. Repeat this procedure three times each day until your symptoms go away. Nigeria is the largest African nation that was colonized by the UK. India is the largest Asian nation that the British Empire colonized (which then comprised present Pakistan and Bangladesh). Like all other countries the UK colonized, Nigeria and India were invaded by the UK, who took with them their technology, religion (Christianity), and culture, including names, clothes, food, and language. Despite the British’s best efforts, India did not reject British technology; instead, they rejected British names, clothing, cuisine, and even their religion. 80.5% of Indians today practice Hinduism, followed by 13.4% Muslims, 2.3% Christians, 1.9% Sikhs, and 0.8% Buddhists. English is widely used in commerce and administration even though Hindi is the official language of the Indian government, earning it the title of “subsidiary official language.” It is uncommon to see an Indian wearing a suit or with an English name. Why Nigeria Is Not Progressing Nigeria, on the other hand, accepted the British religion and culture—including names, clothes, meals, and language—to a significant extent, but it rejected British technology. Some have called you foolish, dear Sam Omatseye. Others insist that you are plain stupid. There are those who hold you to be beneath contempt. Their howls of execration upon you are in reaction to your August 1, 2022 article entitled Obi (https://thenationonlineng.net/Obi/). For me, however, you are a dear friend. Our friendship started in the 1980s at Newswatch magazine where both of us practiced journalism before you travelled to the United States for further studies. It continued upon your return and strengthened to the point that, sometimes, you get the producers of your TV Continental programme to connect me to field questions live. Besides, living in different states, we often chat by telephone. I demonstrated our amity again last May when I was in Nigeria’s commercial capital for the Lagos International Book Fair. I phoned you and, within the hour, you were at my stand where we spent quality time reminiscing about the good old days and prognosticating on the future of our dear fatherland. Alligator pepper (also known as mbongo spice or hepper pepper) is a West African spice made from the seeds and seed pods of Aframomum danielli, A. citratum or A. exscapum. It is closely related to grains of paradise and is derived from the species Aframomum melegueta, often known as “grains of paradise.” Alligator pepper is sold as the full pod holding the seeds, in contrast to grains of paradise, which are typically sold just as the seeds of the plant (in the same manner to another close relative, black cardamom). Alligator pepper is produced by herbaceous perennial flowering plants of the ginger family (Zingiberaceae), which are found in swampy environments along the coast of West Africa. It becomes clear why this spice has the popular English name once the pod is opened and the seeds are exposed because the seeds are covered in a papery skin that has bumps that are similar to those of an alligator. In 2018, as the news started sinking in that incumbent Lagos state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode would not be backed by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for a reelection, there was a kind of tension across the state. In the middle of all that, a relatively unknown name, Babajide Sanwo-Olu was floated. Announced that close to the election year, the All Progressives Congress, APC needed to do something drastic to ensure he became a household name before the election. One of the drastic steps taken was to spam the entire state with Sanwo-Olu banners and billboards. It’s from one of the billboards that the title of this piece emerged. Ifeanyi Okowa, the current governor of Delta state, and James Ibori, a former governor of the same state, are now engaged in a power struggle over the PDP’s governorship ticket. According to a report by The Punch, PDP members are concerned that their party may not have a governorship candidate for the 2023 general elections due to the ongoing cold war between the two party leaders. Sheriff Oborevwori, who won the party’s governorship primary and submitted his name to the INEC, was not listed on the INEC’s recently released list of the candidates nominated by political parties for the 2023 governorship and state assembly elections in all of the country’s constituencies. The PDP in Delta has not yet announced a candidate for the governor’s race in 2019, according to Monday Udoh-Tom, the state’s INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner. He also noted that there are no specifics regarding any potential candidates for the party. Source: https://oclocknews.com/this-will-affect-atikus-2023-presidential-ambition/ |

Personally, I believe ASUU strike, at this time is a waste of Nigerians’ time and energy. Who are they protesting to really; a non existent government; which at best, is a bunch of dysfunctional minds in power on the platform of the State! Is it Buhari who has IGNORED you all these seven years of his administration that will have time for you, at this point of his preparation to leave power at the end of his two terms? Buhari is leaving in less than a year from now. How do you expect a non cohesive government to suddenly develop the capacity to understand let alone APPRECIATE the importance and gravity of not granting your requests for the improvement of Education in the country. I believe ASUU, NLC among others should focus their energy on ENSURING the electoral process is right and NOT TAMPERED with. Strategically, Atiku And Tinubu Can Easily Lose Out To Peter Obi According to information I obtained from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar, the candidates for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) respectively, violated the Electoral Act 2022, which could result in their disqualification if Obi sues them. History holds out to two men a rare opportunity to forever etch their names in gold. Yes, Tinubu and Atiku could become two of the greatest heroes, not just in contemporary Nigerian history but in contemporary African history. If these two men had any modicum of wisdom, they should have by now realized that the political tide is turning against them and the old order they embody. If they have the slightest political insight and sagacity, they should know that the end has come for the old Nigeria, and a new Nigeria is on the wings. They should know that it is pointless trying to prolong an order that has run it full course. And so, rather than try to unsuccessfully swim against the tide, and risk been swept away by the raging torrent, they should quietly walk away or even more honorably help to hasten the arrival of the new order.
