Those described by the OP are the outliers! They are not even considered a minority since there is no link between the success that came to them after marriage and marriage itself.

There may be links not captured by the article. I am not implying causation here; and I must add that there may be confounding variables that strengthen the association/connection between marriage and economic success.

Take for instance, in developmental literature looking at major turning point indicators over the life course for individuals, Samson & Laub (1996) argue that marriage can be a good predictor of desistance. So, it won't be out of place to associate it with improved socio-economic status.

Over 80% who married in abject poverty died in poverty, that is the statistics for the majority. If you marry as a broke man, you will understand the suffering that Job passed through in the Bible.

My brother, there are so many things that are hidden under the sun that we don't even notice or know.

It might not even be his wife, the marriage, or the business that lifted him up. There are so many Nigerians with no legitimate jobs or businesses but doing great.

But of a truth, I know of someone who has suffered for like 36 years....on the 37th year he got married, and gbam....ĥe now travels around the world. The wife is just but a university undergraduate who appears very decent.
