I just wanted to comment @OP that this helping/cooperation thing is cultural. If it's not inherent in your culture as a people, it is not there! It can't change. Even within a family, we compete against each other to show who is doing better than the other, instead of help one another. That's within a family o... Let alone strangers you don't know.
