THe chips being spoken about are not computer chips rather AI chips, let me just say it here, its both the A800 and H800 ,these are two Ai chips made for the Chinese market, the restriction and curtailing to use being talked about is chip technology not the actual chip, so the US place a ban on export of chip tech and the chin ease placed a ban on export of actual chips ie semiconductors. cos the rare earth materials to produce these chips are predominantly found in China.

First, there are no rare earth metals found in China, they buy from Congo and Rwanda (has highest deposit) who is has reduced their trade with China because of China involvement in the Rwanda/Congo war, and has asked the US to map their rare earth metals for them.

China can't make Nvidia or bluechip level of Chips for laptops and phones, their Chip are considerebly inferior. You can search it for yourself

2. Why do Chinese automobile companies buys their chip predominantly from Nexperia in Netherlands, and don't buy from their nation China?
