GistMedia0: A funeral ceremony turned tragic in Philadelphia when a platform gave way during the burial of Benjamin Aviles, pulling multiple people — including the deceased man's son — into the grave.
The heartbreaking incident occurred during the final moments of the service for Aviles, who passed away in late March. As pallbearers were attempting to lower his casket into the ground, the platform supporting them suddenly collapsed, causing the casket and several family members to fall into the burial pit.
In a particularly shocking moment, Aviles’ son became trapped with his face pressed into the mud, pinned beneath his father's casket. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic and emotional scene as mourners screamed and rushed to help.
Several pallbearers also suffered injuries in the fall, including wounds to their legs, hands, and backs. Emergency services were called to the scene and assisted in rescuing those trapped.
The incident has left the grieving family even more devastated, turning an already painful farewell into a traumatic experience.
