@bruseeky nice tarpaulin bro,but i'll like to advice u a little bit,how many stand does it it have at the length?if its just one it won't hold the pond cos of the pressure,so you will have to reduce the volume of water that will be pumped in ok,maxi_mus

yes bro,thick tarpaulin is best for it cos d lighter one my easily tear or wear off as time goes by.as for the price i got mine through someone i know at the rate of 60k both for the tarpaulin and d stand.

Whats the dimension/sizes that can accommodate 500 fish conveniently to table size(In yards) The one I see in the market are not wide enough... the only option might be to join...I'm confused...pls help

THE ABC OF CATFISH FARMING

Before the arrival of your fingerlings , proper disinfection and fertilization should be done by using agricultural lime to sterilize your earthen pond and dry chicken manure to fertilize the pond.

For concrete pond users ...Use formalin to disinfect the pond then use salt water to wash it.After that ,use dry grass for 3 days to fertiliz the pond, and your ponds are ready for stocking.

On arrival of your fingerlings , first test your water ph , this should be between 6.5 to 8 maximum anything below or above is not suitable for your fingerlings . So after testing your ph water is ok then you go ahead and stock.

Stock them directly in earthen pond by mixing your earthen pond water with the water in the plastic used for transporting them.
For concrete pond users after doing this water mixture, you still need to help them settle properly by giving them a prevention treatment ...add any good antibiotic and take note , not multivitamins but only antibiotic.....to the water.
Make the level of your pond water be 1/4 of the size of your pond, add the antibiotic usually 3 to 4 sachet per pond is ok ....leave it for 2 hours then raise the water to full size ...
Do not feed on the day of arrival ....for earthen ponds users ,you do not need to use antibiotic on arrival ..just stock directly after acclamatizing them with your pond water.

Feeding starts immediately the next day , with a medicated feeding method, by adding any good antibiotic and mix it with their feed ...This will help them resist any chock due to change in environment and further help give them better strength to fight bacteria...
The best harvest always depends on how you start your production...give a good start and you get a good harvest ...So after the first day you can continue to feed them generously...I did lots of feed calculations because of the high cost of feed ...so with this new magnet feed. i will advice you forget all calculations and feed your fish 3 times daily till they are tired of eating...When you feed your fish till you notice they no longer need the food, is the best way of feeding ,this will help reduce carnibalizm to the minimum and ensure fast growth of your fish .

Using costly feed and rationing their food cause of the feed high cost will only lead to excess high cost of production and lost of fishes in your pond due to high carnibalism...
The production of the gelatin feed was made to solve this problem of under feeding your fish cause of high cost of feed.

Disease can be eliminated totally if we follow these feeding steps ..Just do a rotation weekly ..either your fish is sick or not ,,,,,,,, Feed with antibiotic only once in the first week and feed again next week once in just a day multivitamin and the week after that ,once time in a week antibiotic and followed by one time a week multivitamin ..

.That is if u give antibiotic just once in this week ,then next week you give multivitamin just once ,and you continue like that till harvest . This way you will never need to treat your fish of any disease till you harvest .

Water ..please very important to check ph daily ,it takes just 5 minutes to check your ph and correct it immediately because we all know ,no fish will grow well if ph is bad ...either shooter or not it will never grow well in bad ph ..i still insist we do operation show your ph tester before starting fish farming ...

Having feed your fish 3 times daily till they get tired of eating, with the growth and weight gelatin feed ....Just continue like that ,till you get to your desired weight and sell......then your profits are guaranteed.

I want you all to know that fish farming is the most easiest and most lucrative farming venture with maximum profit ,if we follow these easy steps i just outlined, its as easy as ABC:::you only get bad result at harvest when you neglet proper preparation of fingerlings arrival, proper feeding till they get tired of eating, proper antibiotic and multivitamin mix with feed 1 time each every two weeks , and proper knowledge of your water ph daily.......do these things and profit is guarantee .God bless ......note concrete pond used here goes for tarpaulin and plastic pond users also thank you.

Great guys doing greater works! Roboo n softy more fish oil to una elbow... I got to where I buy feed n I was shocked to discover that copense 2mm now sells @ #6000! And most of dis names sef na smell we deh buy... with d gelatin feed wic some of us hav been using profit is now re assured. If our Govt can't help us am sure helping oursef is the next step to take. @ Ttalk.. There is no way you will compare the feeds produce by all these giant companies to what private individuals produce. They have the advantage of professionals and well defined equipments at their disposal, not to talk of availability of resources. Individuals just wants to cut cost and bypass major ingredients in producing the feeds all in the name of making more profit. We also have fake and expired ingredients flying around , all at the mercy of our fish. So there is no doubt , the industrial produced feeds wiil generate frenzy approach than the locally produced feeds , except if the individual is ready to spend and have access to the right ingredients. But not to worry , our dear Robonsky is at the top of the situation, as his new feed with high protein content will soon hit the market and like he said , it's going to be very affordable by all.

That will be wonderful as it will help cut down high cost of purchasing dis foreign feeds especially coppens and multifeed,but the problem might be that dis new feed might not be commercially available to some areas.but am so glad that its been planned and will soon hit the market.cos seriously,d foreign fees are pretty expensive,more FISH OIL to ur elbow@ROBONSKI.

@ lovesuit... You did not specify the measurement of your ponds and the number of ponds you keep them in. This could have a relationship with the death of some of the fish you are experiencing. Also don't stress them too much while sorting. 7000 fish is quite a lot to sort at once, so do it gradually. By the way I'm Ayosat not Olabakefish.

Thanks@Ayosat,yes i have 6 ponds in total 2(17 by 6) and 4(10 by 10),but 3 of the 10 by 10 is new and is still under treatment cos of the chemicals.it should be ready in no time.thanks a bunch for the info.

Non that I know of.
The only thing is that most roofs are extremely dirty now, with dust everywhere , so if your ponds are close to any building, the first rainfall will wash the dirty roof tops into your ponds, but no harm done. Only change your water and that's all.

@ Olabakefish. ... So sorry for the lose. But loosing 25% in the space of 2 weeks is extreme now. If the difference in sizes is not not much then I think there is something the man is not telling you.
For him now to let you go without any form of compensation is cruel to say the least. As long as he is still in custody of the fish , he must be liable for any loss thein.
For the cannibalism... You have to state the measurements of your ponds . the fish have to have well defined space, with good water management and adequate food supply to keep cannibalism at bay.

@olabakefish,please will the first rain affect catfish in anyway.am a first time fish farmer,with about 7000 catfish and they are a month and 2 weeks old,i really need ur help,thanks my name is macdonald.God bless

pls house i will also need yours assistance,my pond is not roofed and ppl adviced me to cover it cos the first rain might cause harm to the fishes.pls i will love to know if it will pose any threat to the fishes.Thanks

Sincerely am so happy about this forum,as it has helped me in so many areas.Am a graduate of nutrition and dietetics,awaiting my NYSC,but decided to start up a biz,and a friend of mine intruduced me to this catfish farming,i got the necessary learning and practicals about it.i started with about 7350(fingerling,juvenile and jumbo)sized fish and so far it has been challenging and encouraging as well.Right now they are about a month and 2weeks old.its indeed a good venture,and am so happy to be in this forum.Big ups to everyone here,including ROBONSKY.i also sent a msg to AFFON on whatsapp,but ive not been fixed into the group,i will like to be a part of the group as well,as anything that concerns fish interests me,cos i really wanna learn more.thanks
