*APC, moving Old Naira notes around political wards for vote buying* - *Save Edo Group* A Socio Political group in Edo state, Save Edo has today raised alarm over APC’s plan to buy votes in the March 11th election. The group Secretary, Deacon Ehi Enojie said they have credible information that APC leadership in the state as at yesterday began plan to move old naira notes around the 192 wards of the state for vote buying. You would recall that the same old naira notes were ferried into the state in large trucks before the presidential election. Unfortunately, they couldn’t buy votes with them because of the naira cash swap policy by President Buhari. However, the reversal of the cash swap policy by the supreme court has further emboldened APC leaders, who have now moved the old naira notes to their various wards for vote buying. We are using this opportunity to call on the security agencies to track down these monies wherever they maybe be hiding them. We also call on the Edo electorate to stand resolute and reject APC old naira notes and stay the course by voting for their preferred candidates in the forthcoming House of Assembly election. We also want to call on APC to turn a new leaf and desist from their usual habit of vote buying and allow the electorates to determine their future without any form of harassment and monetary inducement. Signed Deacon Ehi Enojie Secretary, Save Edo Group

NOTICE NOTOCE NOTICE: Do you want your shops and markets to be taken over by Tony Kabaka and other Lions and Tigers? Do you want our widows to be told "go and die" for simply having an honest living? Do you want to wait for another 50 years to collect your CofO? Do you want the reign of terror back in our state again, where we cannot sleep with our eyes closed for fear of being attacked or killed in broad day light? Do you want your school of nursing, which is adjudged as the best in sub Sharan Africa to be de-accredited again? Do you want your parents and relatives to be owed 8 months of salary? Do you want our pensioners to be dieing daily and fainting because they are doing useless verification? Do you want to vote in those who rigged the last presidential election that denied millions their inalienable rights to elect their leader? So, if you want these, then this is the Yoke APC placed on our neck for years in Edo state. A state without plan and direction, ruled by rogues and thugs in the guise of government. If you want to continue in this peace and serenity with major reforms in all sectors of the economy, vote for all PDP candidates in the forthcoming House of Assembly election in Edo and ensure continuity of policy. Vote PDP!

*Edo gets N2.5bn grant from ASR Africa for equipping Stella Obasanjo hospital* The Edo State Government has received a total of N2.5 billion grant from the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative for the Tertiary Health System Support Scheme, which according to Governor Godwin Obaseki, will be used to equip the Stella Obasanjo Hospital, in Benin City. After receiving the letter of award from the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative, Dr. Ubon Udoh, at the Government House in Benin City, the governor reiterated his administration's commitment to improving the healthcare system in the state. He said, “We are very concerned about healthcare in Nigeria with the post-COVID-19 economy. We are determined to make Edo a healthcare hub in Nigeria. The healthcare system is really about the people. Infrastructure is important. If you don't have the people that are properly trained, then the equipment will just be fancy for tourism. Within the Edo axis, we can muster up to five thousand doctors in different specialisations. “If we have access to people who can provide quality healthcare and have world-class institutions or facilities to provide that training, then we should do it. Having the right governance means an arrangement where people don't need to travel to get the kind of care they need. “We are very keen and are anxious to get this started. For us as a state, we just try and execute. Hopefully, next week, we will establish a joint account and the procurement process has to be accelerated; within the next four to six weeks, let the orders be placed. “I want to thank and appreciate you and the people of Edo will eternally be grateful. We can now proudly say that you have one of your largest investments in Africa in Edo and this is what they are contributing to the lives of our people,” he added. The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative, Dr. Ubon Udoh, commended the governor for impacting the lives of Edo people through healthcare, noting, “It is a clear indication of your vision for your state and commitment in bettering the lives of your people, through health care. We want to truly appreciate you for that show of commitment and of course, for that laudable project which you are proposing. “We are here to present to you a letter of award for a N2.5 billion grant for tertiary healthcare support system scheme to support the Stella Obasanjo Hospital.” "We are going to start by putting an initial deposit of N1.25billion in a joint account between ASR Africa and Edo State Government; I want to congratulate you and your team. We want to thank you for the commitment you've shown towards bettering the lives of your people and the quality of leadership you've shown and which we have seen. I want to assure you that this is the beginning of a partnership between ASR and the Edo State Government,” he said. *PHOTO CAPTION* *DSC_01* L-R: Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Abdul Samad Rabiu (ASR) Africa Initiative, Dr Ubon Udoh; Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki; Corporate Communications Director, ASR Africa Initiative, Dr. Tega Ogra, and Multilateral Specialist, ASR Africa Initiative, Nakama Keri, during a courtesy visit, at the Government House, in Benin City, on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.

In recent times, the media has been awash with the heartbreaking news of how collapsed buildings have trapped and killed hundreds of people in different parts of Nigeria, particularly in Lagos. The few survivors from those collapsed buildings incidents, who escaped by the whiskers, were in most cases maimed for life. Reports which emanated from government authorities in the affected states indicated that some of those buildings did not have approved building plans, and in some cases where they had approved building plans, the developers did not comply strictly with the specifications in the approved plans. Developers, occupants, and squatters who violated public policies by staying in unauthorized places also had their own share of misfortune, and some did not live to tell their stories. It is therefore appalling and worrisome that some people deliberately engage in precarious behaviour in defiance of policies of the Government. It is unimaginable that some people blatantly work at cross-purposes with constituted authorities. For the umpteenth time, Edo State Government has sounded notes of warnings to people who built houses or constructed business structures under high tensions electric cables to relocate from these areas for their own safety. In the same way, the State Government through the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development has enjoined developers who erected illegal structures in different parts of the State to remove them without delay. To this end, the State Government served several notices and a series of warnings to landowners and occupants of the unapproved property and illegal structures erected in unauthorized places in the State. After seeing the red flag raised by the State Government for the past two years, these landowners and occupants of these illegal structures still refused to heed the warnings to vacate from these red spots for their own good. The unwarranted resistance and flagrant disregard for Government’s policies smack of irresponsibility on the part of land developers and squatters on illegal structures. With the expiration of the notices served on these land developers and occupants, the State Government is now left with no choice, but to enforce the removal of the illegal structures in line with the State Government’s urban renewal drive. Apart from the fact that illegal structures are erected in areas without authorization, these illegal structures do not have appropriate building plan approvals. This is tantamount to double violations of Government’s regulations. There is no doubt that people cannot continue to do things in the same wrong way and expect better results. The refusal by landowners and occupants to relocate from the designated unapproved structures has now prompted the State Government to embark on the demolition of illegal structures constructed under high tension cables and other unauthorized places in the Benin metropolis. This exercise is aimed at removing structures by illegal developers and squatters who live or trade-in unauthorized locations such as under the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) High Tension Lines. The State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Ms. Omo Isoken, recently revealed that the State Government had given such defaulters ample time to move from the locations, instead, many began to build permanent structures under power lines. Without any iota of doubt, the State Government owes Edo people the duty to maintain and keep the environment safe and habitable for everyone. Certainly, the State is not expected to condone this reprehensible behaviour. Therefore, it can only be considered unthinkable and irresponsible for people to brazenly stay in illegal structures in unauthorized places without considering the consequences. People who stay under TCN’s high tension cables are exposed to multiple hazards. The electromagnetic waves that are consistently radiated from the high tension cables pose a serious hazard to human health. Similarly, if any of the cables were cut off during stormy weather, any person or persons within the vicinity of the high tension cables would be caught up with untimely death. In a nutshell, it is very unsafe and unhealthy for anyone to stay near high tension cables. It suffices to say then that people who choose to do wrong things should not wail when Government begins enforcement of appropriate sanctions. It is common knowledge that if Government fails to enforce compliance, and misfortune happens to befall a violator, people including these defaulters would turn around to blame Government for not carrying out its job, and for allowing the situation to degenerate to that level. There is a saying in Chinua Achebe’s “Arrow of God” that “a man who brings home ant-infested gays should not complain if he is visited by lizards.” Consequently, those who run foul of the Government’s policies and regulations should be prepared to face the wrath of the law. Over the years, some people have been building illegal structures in unauthorized places in Benin City and different parts of the State without being challenged by Government authorities. The fact that these defaulters were not confronted by previous administrations does not justify the illegality. As we all know, anything that is built on a wrong foundation cannot stand, and that is the fate of illegal structures in Edo State. Edo State is developing a 30-year Development Plan (2021 – 2050), The reason we now appeal to Edo people is to ignore the complicity of past administrations and key into the State’s current urban renewal drive. The Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration has been working relentlessly to create modern cities in Edo through its urban renewal drive. This is an initiative everyone should embrace and support for the common good of the people. Edo cannot become great if the people choose to do things haphazardly and disregard Government’s policies and regulations. The noble thing Edo people should do is to encourage the Government by complying with established regulations. By so doing, both the people and the State Government will become partners in the task of making Edo great again (MEGA).

Edo 2020: Obaseki’s following organic, fueled by convincing all-round performance The Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, has said Governor Godwin Obaseki’s convincing all-round performance in the past four years has earned him an organic following among Edo people and the electorate. Osagie, in a statement, said the governor’s excellent performance, which has endeared him to Edo people, is causing the opposition sleepless nights and leaving them to search for means to undo the overwhelming support by Edo people. He stressed that the governor and his team have no reason whatsoever to coerce people to support him because his works speak for themselves and the people, especially teachers in the state, who have been immensely impacted by the governor’s policies. According to him, “The governor does not need to coerce teachers to support him. That is preposterous. No such thing happened. Obaseki’s following is organic and real. There is no such thing as threats for anyone to support the governor. “The strongest supporters of the Governor are teachers, whose lives and careers have been transformed by the governor’s reforms. As against what obtained in the past when teachers were ridiculed, we have made them more marketable, improved their skills and introduced them to more exciting ways of teaching and learning.”

Edo Assembly members tour 6000bpd Edo Modular Refinery, insist state on course for industrialization … facility 99% ready, to be commissioned in Sept. – official Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), Rt. Hon. Francis Okiye, has said the Edo Modular Refinery being developed by Edo Refinery and Petrochemical Limited with support from the state government would reset the economic base of the state and demonstrate the government’s readiness to deploy innovative means to attract big-ticket investments into the state. Okiye, who said this when he led the legislative house on an inspection tour of the refinery as part of their oversight function, said, “We are here as part of our oversight function. Edo State Government, as part of its stimulus package to attract investment, appropriated about N700 million to stimulate business activities in the state, for the purpose of encouraging investment which will lead to job creation. He continued, “When this government came into office, it took this step as part of the stimulus package to create jobs and wealth for the state. The governor briefed us that investing N700 million into the refinery project was not an attempt to take full ownership of the investment but to guarantee that the government was serious when they entered into the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the partners on the project. Inspecting this project, it shows that both parties have lived up to expectations. Noting that due process was observed in allocating the money for the project, he said, “This is good news as we have seen the outcome of the money appropriated to the executive towards the execution of this project on behalf of Edo people.” Okiye said the return on investment is direct and indirect employment followed by a chain of benefits accruing to the state as a result of the investment. Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Cooperatives, Hon. Felix Akhabue, said the refinery has created jobs for Edo people, noting, “A lot of our people have been engaged here as this is the agreement reached with the investors that 90 per cent of those engaged here would be persons from Edo State. The state government also insisted that the materials used for the construction must be sourced from the state". Head, Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Community Relations of ERPC, Mr Segun Okeni, said the Edo Modular Refinery is 99 per cent ready and will be completed before the end of September 2020. Conducting the leadership of the EDHA round the premises of the Edo Refinery, Okeni said when completed, the project will boost the economy of the local community, the state and the country at large. "It will also help to boost foreign exchange as some of the products will be exported. Our vision is to be able to take care of 80 per cent of diesel demand in the next five years.” "This is a modular refinery, as we will have four straight products. These are diesel, which makes up 55 per cent of the products; fuel oil, 38 per cent; naphtha, which would amount to less than 10 per cent while the rest would be gas, which will be used to power the process equipment.” He said the company is working with government, regulatory agencies and the host community to ensure that everyone benefits from the project, noting that part of its corporate social responsibility is the rehabilitation of the Warri-Benin Expressway at the Ologbo axis. Edo 2020: Capt Hosa Okunbor Is A Political Contractor - PDP Group. ... Says Oshiomhole, Ize-Iyamu And Okubo Conspiring To Restore Political Godfatherism, Loot Edo Treasury. Barely eleven days to September 19 governorship election in Edo State, one of the political contractors and election financier of the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate, Capt Hosa Okubo has showed up openly to defend the crumbling campaign structures of Mr Osagie Ize-Iyamu and the APC. And in swift reaction, the Coalition of Intelligentsia for Rule of Law and Justice, CIRLJ, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in a statement by the Chief Scribe, Dr (Barrister) Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, took a swipe on the controversial billionaire, saying that Capt Hosa Okubo is nothing but a spent political contractor waiting to be unmasked by progressive forces. The group noted that Okubo is bedevilled by alleged shady deals in the Maritime sector which is why he resorted to television documentary of his company's abridged activities to save face, and to preempt unavoidable forensic audit in the sector that will soon expose his unscrupulous multifaceted deals across board, including his investments in electioneering processes in Edo State, in deliberate violation of relevant sections of the Electoral Act 2020, as amended. The coalition position is that Capt Hosa Okubo must be told that Edo State Treasury under governor Godwin Obaseki is not accessible by the looting cabal, and therefore cannot form any kind of political alliance with alleged looters, adding that Edo peoples money is for development and not for sharing among smart political gladiators ably represented by Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Adams Oshiomhole and Okubo as core electioneering campaign investor. "We note with dismay how Capt Hosa Okubo debased himself by taking over the media and communication job of Ize-Iyamu campaign organisation from the embattled Mallam John Mayaki. We feel very sorry for Mayaki who has been relegated to the background for Okubo to do the dirty job. "The sinking electioneering boat of the APC and Ize-Iyamu cannot be salvaged by an Okubo who is enmeshed in sad tales of shady deals in the Maritime sector of our nation's economy. No amount of television documentary cum image laundering will save Okubo and his Maritime cabals in our territorial waters. Time shall time and Okubo shall be exposed in due course. "We urge President Mohammadu Buhari to urgently call Okubo to order and prevent him and his hoodlums called the 'Lions and Tigers' from causing mayhem and bloodshed on election day in Edo State. "Okubo must allow a free and fair election as the only panacea to peace and good governance in the state. "Whatever financial investments he made towards Ize-Iyamu's failed governorship ambition can be recovered by selling off some of his candidate's choice properties instead of turning himself to APC Edo campaign media director in the face of Ize-Iyamu's dwindling popularity few days to election. "Governor Obaseki's MEGA mantra is real and Edo peoples minds are made up on the 4+4 torgba deal to Make Edo Great Again," the statement added.
