Religion / What Is Christianity Doing For Nigeria? by LugarT: 11:55am On Feb 12, 2017
WHAT IS CHRISTIANITY DOING FOR NIGERIA?
By Temidire Aguda

For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. (Matt 25 v 35-36)

The Christian faith today seems to have lost its flavor. It is now, unfortunately, being trampled like discarded salt. Look around you and you will find almost no evidence of the power of faith, the stability of the social environment or even individual prosperity beyond the natural and which may be attributed to the effective positioning of Christianity. I fear that millions of Christians are today living in denial of the hard truth that the Bible shares about a people “having a form of religion but denying its power thereof”. If Christians today were to be true to selves and be humble enough to assess their prayers –answered matrix for 2016, then I will be quick to ask, in percentages, how much of your prayers came to pass? Christians are as broke as ever, as heckled as ever, as killed as ever, and as ill as ever. We cannot point to a steady, linear or progressive chart achieved on account of our Christianity in any more ways than unbelievers, or adherents of other faiths do. While growing up and learning about the shades of faith, I learned that Christianity was beyond a statistical label. I sincerely hope that it is not so today.

Let me explain.

The social dynamics of Christianity in Nigeria seems to find a basis in an interactional loop of customer-client nature. The leaders do a SWOT analysis of the Christian industry and identify the latent opportunities therein – a people who are as lazy as hell, ever willing to place the power of ‘’prayer” and faith above standard work and believing that breakthroughs are the only highways to success. Christianity in Nigeria today seems like a dress rehearsal, almost as if the real thing is on the horizon and not yet here. Today, it is a transaction – God-do-your bit- and-I-do mine. The people forget that all God needed to do for them was a birth while many religious leaders simply pad the word (depending on yearly strategy) than offer substance of the word. Once a system feeds on human need, an addictive dependency is created and which often than not gets milked on a lifetime continuum for many. It will take a reset, in my opinion, today for the average Christian to understand the symbolism of the torn veil and access to the Throne that a sacred resurrection as Jesus’ offers. Millions will die, totally ignorant of the power that they carry in their bodies and minds and oblivious of the fact that in every way possible, they are Pastors, first to themselves before any other can be for and to them. The unfortunate downside of this remains the broader disconnect between Christianity and social development which is the interest of this piece.

The Nigerian Christian body has not been able to proffer nor effect any positive impact for instance on the electricity quagmire that Nigerian has been thrown into for decades. We have however witnessed exponential growth in church membership and the financial fortunes of churches. Christianity is historically a positive force for change and while it propelled Europe and America to immeasurable development, we have artfully dodged that component of Christianity which drives social change to making it become an unwilling driver of personal greed. Is Christianity and its power strictly a personal enterprise and unable to adequately attend to social needs? What has the practice of our faith achieved for the social conditions of living in Nigeria other than personal prosperity? The Bible is replete with examples of how masses of people benefitted immensely from the awesome power of God in the past. Is this power headquartered now only in our children attending expensive schools and vacationing in exotic lands? Hungry thousands got fed and victories were won in battles when the effective power of God was at work and evident with the people in times past. Where is that power today? What has Christianity done for Nigeria?

The practice of Christianity in this land is attired like a limited liability company – you can only sue the business! Whereas we are called to be “the light of the world”, we cannot even light our rooms. I look forward to the day when we will have a coalition of our revered men of God in Nigeria adorn jeans and casuals and all they, in buses find their ways to hospitals to pray in unison for the sick. I wonder if we could have a Coalition of Deacons from different churches take turns to visit prisons while pursuing a new social order for the prisons system. Do we have an association of pastors’ wives that go to feed widows and orphans? Can we get a ‘Union of Ushers’ of all churches in Nigeria that engage in community service across the length and breadth of Nigeria? Can we have an interdenominational central account for the first time in global history to solve social problems? This sounds like a joke right? I am laughing here too but we must advance Christianity beyond the silo structure that we have forced on it. We have made Christianity a competitive venture and not a way of life. When we are all headed to our churches on Sundays, we are headed to narrow minded groupings led by narrow-minded leaders who can only give back narrow minded teachings. We are not taught to think global but rather to become deliberate, reductionist tribes looking for territory to conquer.

Can the Christian body in Nigeria not within their God-given talents, assets, and resources cause a small progressive shift in the challenges of transportation and education in Nigeria? Can we run an efficient transport system that adopts the best technologies to trail the blaze for the secular world? Can we not within us have a Christianocracy that Democracy feeds from and learns from? The secular is leading the Christian today and so all the conventions and mass services have not translated to as little as 100 kilometers of tarred road anywhere in this country for 50 years. This is failed religion in its basic form. Is it not a shame that the conglomeration of big churches cannot point to any national development blueprint that they can be responsible for? Can the big churches in Nigeria not simply donate 1 Billion per month to each fund as little as a tuition-free university in Nigeria? Why are we so engrossed in a competitive proliferation of universities that totally works against divine purpose for collective humanity but which feeds satanic capitalism?

Our inbred selfishness as separate bodies has failed to enable us to see the power in Christian unity. Over 80 million people with millions in services every Sunday cannot pray a single prayer about power supply that Heaven hears! There are problems. Millions gather every Sunday to pray for national prosperity – it never comes! Many have been praying for a change in the mindset of our political leadership since 1990 (I used to attend Wonder City in Ajah for Crossover back then) but that might never happen in even my lifetime. We are praying amiss. We have our solutions already in our hands as the church but we have been distracted with expansion of landed property, increased membership while failing to see how these million member strengths can be translated to national development and growth. We have tried a South-South Minority, we have tried a Yoruba Farmer, we are now trying a Super Man from the north and the scorecard remains – FAILED.

It will remain so till the churches really know why they exist.

M-TRILL DON COME AGAIN

Award winning rapper formally known by real name Yarhere Teria aka "M-trill" is out with the visuals of the remake of his song "Aboh".

Aboh which means hand or clap (dependent on what part of the south-south you are from) is a traditionally laced beat with a solid rap verse on top.

M-trill uses the opportunity to weave around his triumph, challenges and skills as a rapper in the verses, asking us to join him and clap as that's what his rap can make us do.

The visuals follow the theme as Adasa Cookey of Squareball Media showcases traditional attires and dance steps synonymous to the south south.

Releasing the video and audio at the same time is indication that "Trilla" as he's fondly called is very serious this time around.

We are just happy that (arguably) the Biggest Rapper from the south south is back on the scene....now that's something we can clap to.

he was fixing her slippers,he added something

without the aboki's knowledge....when he was
done he called her to come take her slippers that
he had finished stitching it,she came out of her
apartment and the aboki asked her to wear it
,immediately our landlord screamed from upstairs
"don't put your leg in that slippers.
He rushed down and demanded that the aboki
should wear the slippers first but the aboki
refused ,one thing led to other and the whole
compound was alerted including myself.
We literally had to use force for him to wear the
slippers and immediately he placed his leg my

Art, Graphics & Video / Nigerian Painter Abiodun Olaku Makes It To Finals Of International Arts Contest. by LugarT: 1:24pm On Nov 03, 2016
Your votes requested.

Abiodun Olaku, a Nigerian Professional Artist has had his work, "Silhouettes of Labour" lined up with 20 others in the finals of the Atlas Society Art Contest themed "The Entrepreneur: Risks and Rewards". In a very keen contest, one which was earlier moderated by Artists of international repute, Silhouettes of Labour by Abiodun Olaku has generated tremendous interests from Arts enthusiasts. From a distant 6th place, the painting has caught the interest of local and international audiences with a scintillating acceptance that made the work remain on the No.1 spot since 2 days after public voting was open till date.

The work, an oil on canvas painting captures the spirit of enterprise of many families in pursuit of subsistence in the riverine areas of Nigeria. The elements of the painting are well presented and highly engaging. "Silhouettes of Labour" remains the only artwork that made it to the finals from Africa.

To vote, please click on http://atlassociety.org/art-contest/art-contest-voting/image/28-silhouettes-of-labour#fwgallerytop and tap "Vote" under the painting Silhouettes of Labour by Abiodun Olaku. The vote count increases after a vote.

Nigerians have rallied round to make a point with their support for this artwork which beautifully reflects their daily work and have used social media to promote and expose the work.

Politics / Re: BREAKING: Resign Now, Tinubu Tells Oyegun, APC National Chairman by LugarT: 10:35pm On Sep 25, 2016
Dele Momodu has proven to be the silent town crier of the South West APC. Whem Momodu cries, the village must determine what it is they hear even if muffled. Here's what's going on.

There is a clear unspoken battle between Tinubu and Buhari and this is all about control - control for what happens in 2019. It is clear that the Buhari presidency is clearly on a mission of restoration of the north to its "right" of place. And while that in itself is not really a bad thing, that action fails to address the most pressing affairs of our Nigerian state today. Along this battle, many casualties caught in the cross fire will emerge.
1) Oyegun is working for Buhari and has ensured Kogi for Buhari while Faleke lost the mandate under very strange circumstances.
2) Tinubu's candidate for Senate President adequately contained against strange circumstances that birthed the Saraki presidency. Only neophytes will think that Saraki and Buhari are on warpaths.
3) The Kogi treatment is being transferred via DHL to Ondo and only neophytes will again not see that Buhari clearly does not want any state under the circumstances to be under Tinubu's grip - it can work against his plans for 2019.

Now Tinubu will begin to react to Buhari's encroachment of his territory. Tinubu is referred to by some as the Jagaban, The Lion of Bourdillon. Go and study what lions do when you stay into their territories. I pity Buhari for now because the media just got the mod. Sheet is going down... And fast.

The unfortunate implications of these is that politics will overtake issues of the economy. Either ways the APC as presently constituted is designed to fast track our path to Zimbabweism.

The courts have spoken and the Supreme Court has made the final adjudication on the matter today. I however would like to rest my thinking on the famed saying of the Late Supreme Court Justice Erudite Akintola Ejiwunmi who, in the face of hard facts nailing Mohammed Abacha to the events that led to the murder of the late Kudirat Abiola, termed the 4 - 1 judgment outcome as the "tyranny of the majority".

I worry that, in the absence of amended legislation, the precedent that the Kogi legal debacle sets is a disturbing one because of the lacuna on the subject of death in the course of election as opposed to constitutional mention for before or after.

Congratulations to Yahaya Bello. I hope that he justifies the solid confidence of the judiciary in his emergence. Karma is however a bad bi. Let's never forget that.

Lemme share my own little knowledge as a Geographer!!!

For the sake of people still thinking if it is possible or not, You will decide for yourself if it is possible or not after reading this.

First, you'd have to pass through 22-44 miles (35-70 kilometers) of continental crust (3-6 miles/5-10 kilometers on the ocean floor) followed by 1,800 miles (2,900 kilometers) of mantle. After that, you'd have to traverse a Mars-sized outer core of liquid iron churning as hot as the sun's surface (10,000 degrees F, or 5,500 degrees C), then a solid, moon-sized inner core, and, some studies suggest, a liquid innermost core.

Now for the sake of people thinking we can use it as a travelling means, probably to china or what ever, lol. Did you consider gravity? I guess you forgot that, now the question is, what happens to gravity?

We will first have to pretend the Earth is a cold, uniform, inert ball of rock. While we're at it, let's ignore air resistance.

At the Earth's surface, gravity pulls on us at 32 feet (9.8 meters) per second squared. That means that, for each second you fall, you speed up by 32 feet per second -- but only near Earth's surface. Gravity is a function of mass, and mass is a property of matter. On the surface, all of Earth's matter lies below your feet but, as you fall, more and more of it surrounds you, exerting its own gravity. These horizontal tugs counterbalance each other and cancel out, but the increasing proportion of mass above your head exerts a growing counterforce to the proportionately decreasing mass below, so your acceleration slows as you near the core. At the planet's center, your acceleration due to gravity is zero -- Earth's mass surrounds you, gravity cancels out and you are weightless

You're still moving at a heck of a clip, though, so don't expect to stop there. Halfway to the center, your speed hits 15,000 mph (24,000 kph); 21 minutes after jumping in, you blow past the center at 18,000 mph (29,000 kph). Another 21 minutes later, with gravity slowing you as you go, you reach the far side and stop briefly in midair. Unless someone catches you, you'll then head back the way you came and start all over again. In our idealized case, this will continue indefinitely, like a pendulum or a spring, in a process called harmonic motion

Of course, reality has a tendency to intrude on even the best thought experiments.
