i welcome the students of social sciences to this platform. this essence of creating this trend is as part of the awareness towards the proposed social sciences students national convention. social sciences students across universities in Nigeria should join the movement by introducing themselves and their schools. I was somehow flabbergasted to discover a compendium of intelligentsia of this nature here on nairaland Hold on, as I consult my lexicon to submit my gargantuan contribution to this. |
LETTER TO NIGERIAN YOUTHS AHEAD OF 2015 ELECTION. Fellow compatriots. It more a truism that behind every successful democracy, the impact of the youth cannot be overemphasized as they form a vast population of the active citizens. Moreover demographers and population statisticians also made it known that in every population, the youth occupies a dominating number. Thus, their importance is unquantifiable. In this part of world, youth had deviated largely from being the catalyst of change to being the advocate of corruption. We've been disoriented that we never perceive integrity as anything, our life is controlled by the quest for material achievements. We've sold our future to bad politicians,we've remain a jingoists to an anti-masses political ideologies, year in year out, we've led this nation into crises of bad leadership. While our allies in other parts of the world are making things happen with their juvenile strength,we're here selling our future to bad politicians who are very close to extinction. Now, it few months to make another decision, the one we all made last time had earn us nothing but a white elephant; our nation suffered greatly from the threat of terrorism, misappropriation of funds, atmosphere of fear and insecurity. As a popular stateman said, 'the true test of an idea is not whether we're able to recognise our failings, but whether we're able to raise to meet up with the challenges of our time,is not whether we let our life be shaped by the trend of our past mishaps, but whether we act collectively to shape our future......'. Now,the same ruinous compromises are going on, youths in the north and south are sealing another four-year destructions for our dear nation, no attempt to initiate any change, we keep on pouring the same substance into different containers, expecting it to change form. Can there be any change repeating the same thing in the same way? Obviously NO . Ain't we conscious of the fact that we're older than we 're in 2011?, We still acknowledge that 'we're the leaders of tomorrow',when leaders of yesterday are not ready to let the new breed of leaders of today have their ways, how realistic is our visions of tomorrow?. Let 2015 bring. positive answers, let the labour of our past heroes and heroines be made great again, let good governance have it way, let's God's own choice transcend, use your youthful strength to transform Nigeria, don't let yourself be use as a political thug to win election, don't employ your strength to inflict another bizarre on our dear nation. Think of the people that suffered from the ones you caused in 2011, remember of people that lost their life and those that lost their properties in 2012 fuel subsidy crises, remember the number of nigerians that lost their life and those that lost their hostage of fortunes in the various bomb exposures, remember the tales of the abducted innocent girls and the threats on our future. Don't you think this should be a turning point? ,don't you think we need to stop giving our mandates to the same bourgeoisie?. Definitely, it our time to change our world. Deviate from being a political thug, stop taking money from bad politicians, stand up and defend your mandates,be at alert as it might not be very easy rescuing our dear nation from bad leadership, but we must 'just do it' as nike will say. Once again, let make 2015 our turning point, why must you be used as an instrument of destruction, when you have the potentials and the intellectual requirements to stand up as an aspirant and change the world. I'm quite sure this little epistle has changed your decision and you won't be used this time around. Yours advocacy of change. Luqmon Olawale Bin Abdulazeez |
