I am not immune to workers’ pains- Aregbesola ....says salaries problem will be over soon The Governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has Monday evening reiterated that his government is not immune to the pains of workers in the state resulting from the non-payment of salaries. The governor made this statement while receiving the High Commissioner of the Commonwealth of Australia, Mr. Jonathan Richardson who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Osogbo. Aregbesola appealed to workers in the state to be calm as their period of hardship occasioned by the delay in the payment of salaries will be a thing of the past before the end of June. He pointed out that, as the head of the state's administration, he is with workers and that he feels their pain. According to Aregbesola, "I want to appeal to workers in the state to be calm as their period of hardship caused by the delay in the payment of salaries will in a matter of weeks be a thing of the past. "We are with them in their pains, we are not immune to any of their pains. I have not received any salary ever since I became the Governor of the state. "I urge workers to take heart, in no distant time, at least, before the end of this month, we will all put this terrible experience behind us". The governor stressed that the state is eager to partner with Australia for the benefit that will come to the state and Australia as a country. He noted that apart from gold and other resources, the state has a large deposit of gemstones. Aregbesola added that the mining licence that the state gave to an Australian company is small compared to the mineral deposit that the state is blessed with. He said, "we have a lot of potentials in mining, Agriculture and technology. As important as mining and agriculture are, acquisition of knowledge is quite important to development. "We look forward to the contribution of countries like yours. Whether we like it or not, a society without skilled people will soon fizzle out. "We are eager to partner with Australia for the benefits that will both come to us. We are struggling hard to develop our state on every facet". Speaking earlier, the High Commissioner of the Commonwealth of Australia, Mr. Jonathan Richardson held that his country is ready to offer necessary assistance to develop the economy of Osun. The envoy commended the people of Nigeria for the peaceful transition from one civil rule to another, saying the negative view of Nigeria to foreigners is due to lack of information. He stressed that Australia is ready to partner with Osun having realised that the state has potentials in the area of tourism, agriculture, mining among other areas. He said, "We think we have a lot to offer in mining, agriculture, tourism. Some of these area is what we will like to partner with Nigeria with strong focus on public sector and capacity building. "We are happy to inform your government on how we can help in some of the areas," the High Commissioner stressed.

Mohammadu Buhari might not change Nigeria – Obasanjo 18:34 11/06/2015 Former Nigerian president, Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo has claimed that the President-elect Buhari might not change Nigeria in the coming years. In a meeting with the South-West women leaders in Abeokuta, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo made it known that the president-elect Muhammadu Buhari might not be able to change Nigeria in the near future because the damages the present government have caused is not something that can be amended in just four years. Nigeria is currently in a state of havoc with problems like the fuel scarcity, terrorism, low power generation amongst others so with all these, I don’t think the president-elect will be able to change this great nation overnight. Obasanjo urged Nigerians that the new government of Buhari will be inheriting a very bad government with other debts attached to it, and for people to smile again, they will have to endure a bit because it takes identifying the wrong turn to know the right one. Also Read: President urged to intervene amid Rivers rising tensions The leader of the women society, Iyalode of Yorubaland, Chief Lawson Alaba asked the former Nigerian president the favour of not letting the President-elect out of sight when he assumes power in May29. We know that the president-elect has military experience but we want you (Obasanjo) to be of a great help to him in moving this nation to where we want to be. Nigeria is not a country to be shaken by some sects that call themselves boko haram. It gives us a lot of concern hearing daily that our sisters and daughters are suffering continuously in the hands of this terrorists up- north without our government having anything to do about it. We The South-West women leaders believe that it takes great leadership to take a great nation to greater heights. Obasanjo claimed that he has great faith in the President-elect Mohammadu Buhari and believes he (Buhari) will take the nation Nigeria to that expected height and also put a smile on the peoples face again. - MyNews24[b]Mohammadu Buhari might not change Nigeria – Obasanjo 18:34 11/06/2015 Former Nigerian president, Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo has claimed that the President-elect Buhari might not change Nigeria in the coming years.
