I guess I am looking for advice on how well the 2 cultures will bond. It isn't easy to put 2 people in the same house from 2 different worlds and expect them to merge. Bottom line, I know the guy loves me and I want to know the pros and cons of a western lady marrying a Nigerian man. I have read and watched the media coverage as well as read the blogs. I know the problems you all face with the us embassy and I know some of the feelings aimed at going outside of the box to marry. I have read all of that, but what I want is real, raw, uncut feelings. Not the obvious yahoo and GREEN Card responses. Let's just say he isn't so much interested in coming over here to the states right now, but just for us to be together. |
Sure I do. Otherwise I wouldn't post anything here. I gotta find a source of income before the big move. |
@akinbimatt I want to personally thank you for your charismatic yet valuable info about Nigeria. I am a young woman who has gone through a lot of highs and lows and one thing is for certain, danger is all around us. No I haven't experience the unrest here in America like some others have been exposed to in their everyday life. Some people have gotten kidnapped, killed, etc. in some of the smallest, quietest neighborhoods here in America. Only through prayer can we live and maintain our life and keep our sanity. I understand everything is different there, but why be confined to the states when the world belongs to God? You tell me. I can be fearless and careful at the same time. I am African-American and never would have thought in a million years that I would interested in moving somewhere outside of the walls of comfortability. Thanks again. |
This thread has been very informative and hilarious all at the same time. |
I'm done with you cause that sounds so foolish. |
FYI!!! To any and everyone talking about a Green Card. Don't you know that you can come to the states on a student visa and stay forever as long as you are in school vs. marrying someone, you are limited. There are certain stipulations that you must follow with a limited permit. |
Thanks for the advice @omega25red. I have experience in public service work and I have a lot of things I want to do. I would love to work for the embassy. Above all else, aside from helping others, my first love is music. It flows through my veins. |
I'm female and not Caucasian. What does race have to do with anything? |
I can't there until I find work especially if I am planning an extended stay. Bottom line is I need a change of scenary. I am looking to Africa to do something I have never done before. |
Is that what you meant 190? I'm not some random chick who lays down her freedom to give a foreigner a green card. It's not what it's about. For your information, he doesn't want that. He never has said anything about a green card. |
@Lax75 tell me about it. What is it? |
@claremont, Thanks. Finally, what I'm looking for. @190 ??!!!??!? |
Is there something wrong with me moving to Nigeria? |
@ oncolor I didn't really choose Nigeria. It chose me. |
I got you all. I never said I doubted him. I know what we have is real. What I wanted was an opinionated view point of the values of love and family there versus here. The post wasn't based on me making a final decision for my life. For example, there are people here who will automatically form an opinion about a particular race of people. |
Holla |
I have this guy I have known for several years, although I was very optimistic at first because of the things the media feads us about Nigeria, I would love to spend my life with him. I need you alls take on my decision. I am a "nice" American sweetheart who has traveled outside of this country, but never to Africa. Put me where you are. Where you live. Put me in your culture. I know this man and everything that he is about-at least based on what he has told me, but I need raw and uncut information on Nigerian men, Lagos area in particular. I would love responses from both men and women. Help me out. |
No I am not Nigerian. Made in the USA. |
I am a United States Citizen looking to move to Nigeria. I have never worked outside of the United States, but I would like to be employed there. Looking for advice from someone who has already walked this road. Where do I begin? I am employed full time working 40 hours per week, as well as a student of Psychology. Looking to be adventorous and fulfilled. |
