PoliticsNASS Approves N10.6bn For Members’ Allowance by MaBuk(op): 4:39pm On Dec 02, 2015
The National Assembly yesterday increased the 2015 Supplementary Budget from N465,636,926,857 to N574,532,726,857 to accommodate fresh fuel subsidy claims of N108,895,800,000 for three months (October to December 2015) which were not contained in the original supplementary budget submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Going by the approved supplementary budget, oil marketers will now be paid N522,258,934,505 in subsidy claims, up from the N413billion requested by President Buhari to pay subsidy from January to September 2015.

The approval followed the adoption of the reports of the Danjuma Goje-led Senate Committee on Appropriation and the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation chaired by Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin.

The Senate expressed dissatisfaction with the failure of the Executive to provide the needed details for the approval to be granted, but went ahead to approve the budget yesterday.

The Senate had requested for, among other things, the details of the debt owed oil marketers.

Further breakdown of the approved Supplementary Budget shows N29.9 billion for Operation Lafiya Dole – the anti-insurgency campaign in Nigeria’s North East.

Also, the National Assembly Management is to get N10.6 billion to cover outstanding payment of severance gratuity and allowances of outgone and incoming legislators and legislative aides.

The National Sports Commission will get N1.5 billion for the All Africa Games qualification for Rio 2016 Olympics.

The National Assembly approved N5 billion for the Victims Support Fund which will be drawn from the Service Wide Vote since it is a federal government contribution to a fund managed by a committee which is not a ministry, department, or agency of government.

Why Nigeria may not gain from N2.7trn investment in power sector – Dogara

Nigeria may not get significant benefits from a whopping N2.7 trillion spending by the federal government on the power sector since 1999 to date if a definite measure is not taken to address the challenges facing the sector, speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has said.

Dogara stated this while declaring open an investigative public hearing on the activities of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) conducted by the House Committee on Power at the National Assembly yesterday.

The speaker, who was represented by the deputy speaker of the House, Hon. Yusuf Sulaiman Lasun, said the power sector was critical to the economic growth of the country, while lamenting that despite the huge sums of money spent in the last 16 years, recurring challenges still persist in the sector.

“The power sector is critical to the economic health of our nation, the reason being that electricity drives modern life as we know it today. It is difficult to imagine life without electricity.

“The sector has enjoyed substantial government investment over the decades. In fact, from 1999 to date, the federal government has spent an astonishing N2.7 trillion on the sector, and yet teething challenges persist.

“It is obvious that if definite action is not taken to correct the hiccups, we would not make any significant gains. It is thus the duty of all stakeholders to work together to enable our country get it right in the power sector,” Dogara said.

He noted that if properly managed, the sector can set Nigeria on the path of rapid industrialisation, development and growth, adding that it has the undisputed potential to transform the country from its present Third World status to that of a Developed Nation.

“Events in the sector are, therefore, treated with utmost seriousness by the legislature,” he added.

Fuel Scarcities:

Oil marketers blackmailing Nigeria on subsidy claims – Saraki

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki yesterday accused independent oil marketers of blackmailing the country on petrol subsidy payments which has led to perennial nationwide fuel scarcities.

Saraki made the accusation after the approval of the N574,532,726,857 billion 2015 Supplementary Budget of which N522,258,934,505 billion was approved for payment of subsidy claims.

“On the issue of fuel subsidy, as Nigerians, we must say no to this blackmail by marketers, we must put an end to this issue.

“A lot of us in the past have spoken on this matter and I think we are doing this for the interest of Nigerians but I think it is high time we say no to this blackmail and end this hardship.” Saraki said.

He said the Senate will revisit the subsidy regime when considering the 2016 budget.

“I think the committee on Petroleum Resources both downstream and upstream as well as committee on anti-corruption should oversight and make necessary recommendation to the Senate for further legislative action on this matter.

Earlier, Senate Leader, Ali Ndume faulted subsidy claims by oil marketers. “The only people that believe in the subsidy figures are the people claiming it…. the Senate is being blackmailed, we are left with no option.” he said.

The Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio submitted that in view of the reported fraud in the subsidy regime, President Muhammadu Buhari should scrap subsidy in 2016.

“I believe that from 2016 part of the change this administration has promised should be zero [fuel] subsidy” Akpabio said.

CrimeThe Love Tale Of Adebisi ( A Rape Victim) by MaBuk(op): 1:27pm On Dec 02, 2015
*Sighs* learn from my story and judge me not.

My name is Adebisi and I’m 25 years old. I finished from a popular Nigerian University where I studied accounting and left the school with a 2nd class upper case. I never had a serious relationship when I was in school but just “Close friendship” without 18+ stuffs so you can say I’m a Virgin or a fresh looking flower. Believe me, it wasn’t easy for me but I never saw any guy who was ready to be serious with me but most followed me because I was that rich, beautiful and endowed lady. You just asked yourself ( A uni girl didn’t have sex all through her 4years? ) YES! I never did! I believe in making love with a loved person not just a guy who will spend millions on you and your friends. I left school with a naive mindset about relationship but a mature girl with great brain.

One faithful day ( I thought) , I was in a restaurant in lagos when a man walked up to where I sat down, ( I fell inlove with this charming man immediately) but I didn’t show any interest or sign of likeness because I didn’t know what he wanted to say. “Hello miss, could I sit with you?” he said this with a cool smile on his face. “Oh well, you can” I acted like I never gave a damn about his presence but I actually did. We talked and talked and talked and we exchanged numbers that same day but didn’t allow him to give me a ride just not for him to know my house. I didn’t know what happened but I knew I gave him the number and wished he asked for my bbm pin. I left the scene and decided not to think too much about the young man.

After some days, I received a call from this young man I met at the restaurant, ohh his name? “Emeka”. Oh well, he just called to ask for my well being and all sha. He started calling so much I knew he had something in mind but he never wanted to say within a short time even though I wanted him to because I had fallen for his caring attitude, personality and all. He called me this boring evening and asked me if we could go on a dinner, OMG, I was so happy to say YES! I even wanted to say “Yes baby” but as a Nigerian girl, I had to form a little so as to look decent and not cheap. We met at the 5 star hotel in Lagos ( ikeja) and we had our 1st kiss that night. I know you are thinking I’m Hoe or cutlass but No! I was inlove with the perfect guy. He had everything I wished for in my man’s life.

After sometime, we started dating and everything was going fine but It was too late for me to know Emeka was a jealous guy, a drunk and had some nasty friends. He never showed his true self to me for over four sweet months we spent together before dating. I wanted to leave him but I was so into him, I hoped he was going to change but Emeka never did. “Did I make a mistake for falling for Emeka trap? Was I stupid to say yes to his date request? I asked myself all these but still hoped he changed. Emeka and I started having sex atleast 6 times a week and I must say I enjoyed every sex/style we had but he sometimes violently made love with me. I wasn’t bothered because he told me how much he loved me after we made love.
One day, Emeka and I were in the living room having fun and my phone rang. It was a male friend who called me to check up on me and all but Emeka never calmed down and he beat me mercilessly that day for picking up my phone to talk to a male friend. I never saw it coming or even believed he could do something like that to me who he claimed to love. I overlooked it after he apologised and told me he was never going to do that again. I was perplexed for some days after the beating incident but love was too much for him I overlooked.
Emeka and his friends came back home one night and they were so drunk and lifeless. I was surprised to see the gentle man I met some 6months ago in that manner and also wasn’t happy when I saw his 3 friends with him that night. I went straight to my room with so much anger and locked my door thinking I will wake up to my normal man lover in the morning. GBA GBA GBA, it was a knock on my door and I was scared at first. “Who’s that?” I said with a shaky voice “It’s me” Emeka replied with a silly drunk voice, I went straight to my door and immediately I opened my door, Emeka and his 2 friends rushed in, carried me to the living room and made love to me violently that night. I WAS RAPED!!!!!!

I cried all night after the incident and packed my bags, I just wanted to leave the house and his life. I couldn’t think of who to tell about what just happened but I left for good. After some days, Emeka started calling and he sent me different messages apologising for whatever happened that night and asked if I could meet him at our regular joint. I thought of not going but I loved him! I really did love Emeka so I went straight to our joint. He apologised and promised to change and never do what he did again, he even told me he had cut his friends away because they urged him to do what he did. After all the begging, I forgave him, followed him to his home and we made love. I didn’t know what was wrong with me but I loved him so much.
Meanwhile, after Emeka apologised to me, he added beating again to his case and I suffered a lot from him via his beating and threatened me never to tell anyone about it and yet I never wanted to leave him because I loved him. I told different lies about my injuries and guess what? He kept raping me whenever I told him I wasn’t ready for sex with him. We used to have 6 times a week but switched to atleast 15 rape incidents a week or 2. I was tired of all these but never wanted to leave because of the love I had for him. Guess what? Within 2years, I had 5 abortions for him due to rough and unwanted sex without condom. Whenever I leave the house after beating, rape, he kept coming back to apologise and his people kept begging me to forgive him. Oh, before I forget, 2 of the abortions I had wasn’t for Emeka but for his 2 friends. They kept making love to me whenever they like and kept threatening me never to tell anyone about it and if I ever, they will show the world my sex tape which Emeka recorded for them to watch.
I wasn’t free anymore with my man lover whenever his friends were around to play and eat in our house. He beat me up whenever I don’t cook for him and his friends. He will drag me from my room to show his friends my naked body just to brag about his lady body and how endowed she is. I was absolutely nothing in his face/house anymore.
I couldn’t keep up with the way things were going so I left his house and never went back and he never searched for me. It took me a year or 2 before I could totally forget my 1st love and relationship with Emeka and his wicked friends. I never told anybody about this.
Where should I start from? Was I foolish? Is it a crime to love and hope for good times? I know many girls in Nigeria, Africa, world are passing through what I passed through but I think it’s high time we stand against #FemaleChildAbuse #ChildRape and say No to Violence in relationship.
I have parents/friends I could talk to but I was threatened and abused! I wasn’t strong because love made me weak! It was a sad time in my life.

PoliticsInteresting! Etcetera Calls Out Buhari, APC, INEC Over Nigeria by MaBuk(op): 8:44am On Nov 28, 2015
Oga ju! Read… It is beginning to unfold how risky and dangerous it is for Nigeria that Buhari doubles as president and the petroleum minister. As the president, he already has too much on his plate with too many issues pulling the country towards collapse.

From the north, Boko Haram is threatening to drag the whole country down a cliff, and if nothing is done pretty soon, we are going to have a situation in our hands with the Biafra movement. It is already a keg of gunpowder waiting to explode in our faces. The business of armed robbery has never been as lucrative as it is today.

The economy is another area that calls for the president’s urgent attention. But what do we have? A president who has more-or-less assumed the role of a jack of all trade while doing nothing in particular. The president should resign as the minister of petroleum immediately if we are ever going to have sanity in the petroleum industry.

What we need is a petroleum minister who is saddled with no other responsibility outside his ministry. Take for instance the negotiations with the petroleum marketers; it could have been better handled with more urgency knowing that the people are seriously suffering as a result of the slow pace of negotiations. I don’t understand how the president wants to be personally involved in negotiations with oil marketers and at the same time travel all over the world from one summit to another. He should understand that the masses don’t care that much about the bottlenecks in these negotiations; all we want is to be able to drive into a filling station and buy fuel at any time of the day or year.

Secondly, is APC still the opposition party? Because responding to every jibe from PDP doesn’t speak of a party who has come to terms with being a ruling party. What I see here is that the APC never thought in its wildest dreams that Goodluck Jonathan would lose in the last election and as a result, they weren’t prepared for the responsibility of ruling. The PDP left us in a total mess and would love nothing more than seeing APC fail.

APC should put aside their lyrical battle with PDP and fix the issues facing this country or be seen as another party that failed us. APC should understand that elections shouldn’t be a win at all cost affairs. The choice of late Abubakar Audu as the party’s governorship candidate for Kogi State beats me. A man who had already been twice governor of the state from January 1992 until November 1993 and from 29th May 1999 to May 2003? Was it that Audu performed so well in his previous spells as governor of the state that APC chose to bring him back? I keep wondering what the party’s “change” philosophy is all about. As we speak, Bayelsa State is having another former governor as APC candidate for the coming governorship election in the state. May God save us all from desperate political parties.

INEC should explain to us why politicians are allowed to contest for elective positions in two different states. We have seen politicians lose primaries in one state and move to another state and get elected. Isn’t it confusing that Solomon Olamilekan alias YAYI contested for Lagos West senatorial seat after previously registering to contest for Ogun West senatorial district? And now, Faleke, who was a chairman of Ojodu local government and was also a member of Lagos State House of Representatives may emerge as the governor of Kogi State. INEC, please explain to us how this is possible ooo!!!.

PoliticsAbuja Ministerial blues By Dele Momodu by MaBuk(op): 1:15pm On Oct 03, 2015
Let me start it like this. I departed Ghana for Dubai the very day General Muhmmadu Buhari was declared winner of the last Presidential election in Nigeria. As soon as I landed in Dubai, I received countless messages of congratulations which must have been hanging whilst I was in the skies. Some of the senders asked if I was in Abuja in order to come celebrate with me. But I was far from Nigeria and told them so. For me the mission was already accomplished and it was time to take a bow. I was not a member of APC but merely a volunteer and sympathiser.

I couldn’t ever believe that my response did not go down well with some people. Unknown to me, they had banked on riding me as their donkey to the corridors of power in Abuja. They were so sure I could get whatever I wanted from the incoming government. All explanations to the contrary from me fell on deaf ears. They were convinced I was just being pretentious and didn’t want to be of help. The more charitable ones did not stress me much but pleaded with me to remember them in my forthcoming paradise. I shook my head in utter incredulity. Of course, I did not go near Abuja for about two months thereafter although I continued to be pestered from far and near by supposed well-wishers.

On my return to Nigeria from one of my trips a couple of months after the swearing in of President Buhari and the Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo SAN, I received a delegation of friends who I thought were just on a casual visit. After having a few drinks, one of them stood up to start a conversation: “Bob Dee, we have come to offer you some wise counsel. We want you to stop being foolish. You’ve paid your dues and deserve something tangible in this new government…”

If I thought he was just pulling my legs and being melodramatic, he soon overreached himself and did what I least expected! He suddenly went on his knees and started begging me like a penitent school kid: “Please, listen to us. Even if you are not interested, please do so for our sake. If we have you in government, it means we are there too. ..”

Then, he compounded the unexpected act, by diving flat on the floor in some grotesque form of prostration. I looked at the gentleman with great concern and anxiety as I wondered if he had suffered a bout of epilepsy. But he appeared normal and stable and revved into what seemed a monologue as I was too tongue-tied to respond: “See the way I’m lying flat, that is what I want you to do when you go to the Governor of your State, Adams Oshiomole. You will grab his leg and tell him you have come to solicit his help for a Ministerial appointment in Buhari’s cabinet. Please, don’t go empty handed o; not necessarily cash, just buy like a few cartons of champagnes. If his Madam is around, make sure you bend almost double when greeting her, lest you’re accused of arrogance!..”

I remained funereally silent. My friend was not done yet. He continued to soliloquise: “When you leave Oshiomhole, go quickly to see your man, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in the State of Osun because you never know who God may use to make this dream a reality. Remember to repeat the same prostration when you get to Osogbo. Since Alhaji does not like alcohol, you may have to carry bundles of white fabric along. “ I could see that that the self-appointed consultant had it all worked out already and in effortless detail.

I was too stunned and speechless. He stood up without my prompting him. “Those two Governors are very important since your dad came from Edo and your mum from Osun. Now to cap it up, go and see Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. He is your man from way back in your exile days. Please, kneel down and again hold his legs and tell him he is the only one who can make this happen… If possible roll on the floor for maximum effect…” Wow”, I thought internally, “the extent to which one should go to bag a government appointment is amazingly extraordinary”!

I cleared my throat. He had spoken enough and given me ample time to fashion my response. I thanked him for caring so much. I assured him as much as I would want to serve my nation as a patriotic citizen, I know the process a bit. Beyond that, all the three influential people he wanted me to meet and cajole are not people who expect me to crawl to get anything from them. They know I have more self-respect than that and I would lower myself in their estimation if I behaved contrary to character and did a quarter of what he had suggested. I pointed out that “Governor Oshiomole is my big Brother who has shown me love over time. The last time we saw in Zambia, he said he would flog me literally if I don’t visit home soon. He even wants me to launch some of his pet projects across the State because he sees me as an Ambassador of Edo State”, I started my own sermon.

“The Constitution of Nigeria stipulates that The President must pick one Minister per State. Fairly, I expect the Governors, especially in APC States to have party members they want to put forward as Ministers. In fact, I don’t know how the President would honestly handle some States where there are too many heavyweights. A good example is Ekiti State where there is a long queue of accomplished citizens including three former Governors, Niyi Adebayo, Segun Oni and Kayode Fayemi plus Mr Dele Alake and Mr Femi Falana (SAN). There is also Lagos State, where the revered national leader, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to determine who gets what on account of his humongous contributions to APC. Lagos parades former Governor Babatunde Fashola, Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi, Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora, Senator Ganiyu Solomon, Princess Adenrele Adeniran-Ogunsanya, Hon. (Mrs) Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Dr Muiz Banire (SAN), Hon. Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, Chief (Mrs) Kemi Nelson and others who worked assiduously for the monumental success of APC at both local and national levels.”

I continued by telling my audience that “virtually all the States have similar challenges. I won’t be surprised if this is the main reason it has not been easy to complete this selection even now. As much as the President would want to appear totally independent, it is pertinent that he does not act like he’s not grateful to some of his big supporters like some former Presidents, Vice Presidents, Lt. General T.Y Danjuma, Governors, former Governors and heavy funders of the campaign.“

Thank God, my friends listened with rapt attention. It is at times like this that I miss the wise and sagacious head of my friend, Prince Adedamola Aderemi at that meeting. He would have politely stepped in and succinctly straightened everybody out. Fortunately, my friends seemed to realise I was making sense but they still didn’t see why I shouldn’t fight for it as others do, for whatever it is worth. I was not going to add to the existing headache, and tell them I would refrain from acting on their laid down strategy, so I said I was going to try. We departed on that note and I simply carried on with my usual routine.

I don’t know how my name crawled into one of the rumoured Ministerial lists but that was the beginning of proper wahala. My phones kept ringing off the hook from then. My wife was not spared. I received cvs in droves. Many appointed themselves as my Special Assistants or Personal Assistants. Many of them I didn’t know from anywhere. A few friends living abroad told me pointedly that they will return home pronto and work for me. Everywhere I turned I was being congratulated. No one listened to my denials. Even as I write this, my well-wishers have not given up. They told me they are praying and fasting. Someone called me yesterday and said he heard I was in Abuja for my screening. I responded that may be the screening is in London where I’m trying to convalesce at this moment.

In my entire life, I’ve never experienced this type of suffocating pressure. While I feel very flattered by all the sensation this has caused, I can confirm I now know why men of power can hardly perform unless they managed to dodge most of these strident calls and considered wicked. There is nothing I have said that makes any sense to the callers. I’ve been told to be positive and live by faith. Yes I’m a believer in God but I’m also a man who believes in Destiny. What is more, service to one’s fatherland should never be an act of desperation. In the fullness of time, you would be called upon if needed. And there is so much you can do for your country outside power.

I sincerely do not envy the President. If what I have gone through in my little corner is anything to go by, President Buhari definitely needs our prayers. I will encourage him to conclude picking his cabinet and move on. No matter what he does, it is impossible to please everyone. He is already doing fine and should tune up the tempo. May God guide and help him achieve his tall dreams for Nigeria.

Amin.

PoliticsPVC Not Yet Out. How Do We Vote? by MaBuk(op): 7:49am On Jan 28, 2015
I registered in 2011 but I was told the database was corrupt so I had to register again in 2015.

We have been told to go to our local government to get the PVC. The stress I went through on Saturday before I could locate the LG was another story.

Having located the LG, I was told to go back to a primary school in my area.

Getting there I was referred to another school more closer to my house. ( a very painful ordeal after the stress) .

After. I had located the school. I told the inec official that I have been stressed today and I just need my card as am not ready to go anywhere because I have a baby I was carrying all through my journey and we were tired.

My temporary card was collected and on sighting it I was told 2015 PVC has not been printed yet.

The words sound to me like I lost someone very close. I could not cry. After the stress.

But what amazed me most was that the 2 schools I visited, the number of PVC that have not been collected are in thousands.

A lot of people have not yet gone to collect their PVC.

Those of us who want to vote and can't use the temporary card how do we vote then?
