PoliticsJapheth J. Omojuwa: Wailing Wailers, Buharists And That Disgraceful 2016 Budget by MaBuk(op): 1:07pm On Feb 03, 2016
Before I address the essence of this piece, I will start by addressing the reaction. There are two main elements that are likely to ignore rationality when reading and commenting on this piece; the so called Wailing Wailers and the group of people who are still voting President Buhari despite the fact that he is already president. They are often both irrational groups who hold on to opposite sides of an issue mostly based on where they stood during the last polls.

Of the two, the Wailing Wailers are of course the most disgraceful, colourfully shameless and with zilch credibility. The reason being that, everything they criticize today, they once cheered and supported. Their only anger with anything today is that Goodluck Jonathan is no longer president. For most of them, they would cheer the stealing of billions of dollars, defend same and even protest if you start the prosecution process of the suspects, all because they supported Goodluck Jonathan. They do not love Nigeria and even if they wail from now till 2090, those who know better will never take them seriously.

The other group, those who are still voting President Buhari, are held back by the desperation not to be seen that they made a mistake at the polls. That is an unfortunate state to be in because of the two major options before Nigerians last year, Mohammadu Buhari was a no brainer. Goodluck Jonathan had supervised Nigeria’s longest oil boom, despite that, he left Nigeria with its lowest foreign reserve in a decade, less than 1000 MW of power supply, some 112 million poor souls, over 10 million school kids out of school, gargantuan corruption of which Nigeria would still be recovering the stolen funds 10 years from now.

Buhari was the better candidate of the two and Nigerians rightly settled that argument. What Buhari does with that mandate does not make the Nigerians who voted him the wrong party. If doing the right thing eventually results in a bad thing happening, you do not regret doing the right thing.
But Nigeria is bigger than the so called Wailing Wailers, Nigerians already proved that on March 28, 2015. End of. Nigeria is bigger than the Buharists too, Nigerians proved it three times before the 2015 elections. Buhari became president because non-Buharists voted him. Let this be clear before people get swept off by the wind and tide that swept Jonathan and his “best president ever” court of jesters.

The 2016 budget is a joke, a disgrace and a representation of the unwholesome reality of governance in Nigeria. What that budget simply shows is that we simply are not ready for the change we so mouthed during the last elections. Government officials are speaking of austerity measures and the need for Nigerians to make sacrifices, yet our Budget Office is proposing to spend some bizarre sums on some irrelevant, good for nothing materials that contribute zero-value to the average Nigerian.

The 2016 budget has N1 billion for the purchase of tables and chairs. We cannot introduce PDPian reality into governance and then pretend things have changed. N1 billion? For what? That amount will start a big furniture company with the capacity, not only to make enough chairs for the federal government, it will also create jobs. I don’t believe in government starting companies but I’d rather N1 billion spent that way than spent buying tables and chairs.

Almost N7 billion will be wasted on the Senate President’s residence and some joke consultancy distraction. If we want to run Nigeria down, let us be frank with Nigerians, instead of telling them now things will be different while continuing with the inanities that led us here in the first place.

As we speak, no one knows how the National Assembly spends its allocation. It collects its share and spends it without accounting to Nigerians. We can fool one another, but we cannot fool those watching from outside. So far, nothing has changed here! N4.8 billion has been proposed for operational vehicles for Nigerian Prisons. Let us assume these new vehicles are being bought in anticipation of the billionaires that will be jailed by president Buhari, should they then have access to the same exotic vehicles in prison as they did when eating out our collective wealth out of prison? N237 million was spent in 2015 – at least according to that budget – to purchase kitchen equipment for the state house. Now, another N89 million has been budgeted for same. How is it that kitchen equipment that cost almost N237 million cannot survive beyond a budget cycle? Haba!
We cannot stay repeating the same mistakes – should they be called mistakes if they happen every year? – and expect that somehow things will change for the better.

The biggest indication of a government’s direction and intention is its budget. If this budget represents the change the APC promised, we might as well now agree that the disaster that was the “Transformation Agenda” has a match in the joke that this is turning out to be. The most part of this is that those who ought to speak are scared to speak out, they would rather speak angrily against the budget privately, then go into the Senate chamber to praise the very same document they tore apart just minutes before.

If we continue to make government about individuals, our country will not move an inch forward. What has been stated above about the budget is not a finger at who is wrong, it is a finger at what is wrong. The 2016 budget is wrong. Capital Expenditure at 30 per cent, despite an expanded budget essentially means the reality of recurrent expenditure against capital expenditure remains as it was under the Jonathan years. The difference is too marginal to be emphasized as “change.” President Buhari presented a great speech at the National Assembly when presenting the 2016 budget but if he had actually gone through some of the items in that budget, he would have instead sent those who prepared the budget to present it.

This is the first budget under a new party since the PDP’s 16-year reign. It was not expected to be markedly different from theirs because reforms need to be gradual to be sustainable, and to avoid shocks on the economy. Having said this, some items on the 2016 budget could easily have been avoided altogether. Lessons must be learnt, the Buhari administration must do better. If there is one thing this administration can learn from the last, it is this; those who are seen as critics are better than those who praise your every move. We cannot afford to get carried away by the praises of those who will not be there when we are out of power. Those who hailed the last president, as the best thing that ever happened to Nigeria could not even spend a few thousands to wish him a happy birthday just months after he left office. It is the nature of power, it is transient and it carries sycophants along with it, in droves.

Let it not be said that we did not speak when things go wrong. Let it not be said that our voices went dead when the very things we criticized under one government reared its head under another. The Wailing Wailers will say this is being done because people like us were not rewarded with government positions, but those with the power to share the offices know those who are begging them for same. And those who do not care who became what or didn’t. May we know to do better!

Celebrities“Wale Did Not Crash My Wedding” – Toolz Says by MaBuk(op): 11:56pm On Feb 02, 2016
Delectable Beat FM OAP – Mrs. Toolz Oniru Demuren has said that US rapper Wale did not crash her wedding which was held on January 30, 2016.

Speaking to Olisa and Osi at the start of her programme The Midday Show, Toolz revealed that she actually invited Wale to her wedding.

Toolz said Wale called her when he was on his way to Nigeria. She informed him that she was getting married on January 30, and invited him.

Wale was skeptical at first because he didn’t have anything to wear, but Toolz told him to come with whatever he was wearing.

Recall, Nigerians came for Wale over his choice of outfit to the big event and felt her was under-dressed for a typical “Nigerian Traditional Wedding”

Wale showed up at the wedding with Nigerian pop star Wizkid.

Wale had to blast a fan on Instagram who called Nigerian rapper Olamide a faget for rocking a pair of sandals.

PoliticsJudiciary Is My Main Headache In The War Against Corruption - President Buhari by MaBuk(op): 8:31pm On Jan 31, 2016
PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has described the judiciary as he his major “headache” in his administration’s onslaught against corruption. For him, the ongoing fight against corruption in Nigeria could only be effectively tackled with the strong supportive judiciary.

Speaking on Sunday in Addis Ababa at a town hall meeting with Nigerians resident in Ethiopia, the President said far-reaching reforms of the judiciary remained a key priority for the present administration.

“On the fight against corruption vis-à-vis the judiciary, Nigerians will be right to say that is my main headache for now.

“If you reflect on what I went through for twelve years when I wanted to be the President, I attempted three times and on the fourth attempt through God and the use of technology, it was possible for Nigerians to elect an APC candidate as President.

“In my first attempt in 2003, I ended up at the Supreme Court and for 13 months I was in court. The second attempt in 2007, I was in court close to 20 months and in 2011, my third attempt, I was also in court for nine months.

“All these cases went up to the Supreme Court until the fourth time in 2015, when God agreed that I will be President of Nigeria,’’ the President said.

Buhari assured members of the Nigerian community that with the support of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, (CJN), Justice Mahmud Muhammed, he would continue to do his best to improve the nation’s judicial administration system.

On urban development and infrastructure, Buhari announced that the Federal Government had ordered a review of several railway transport projects signed by the previous administration with the Chinese government.

“The Chinese government was very generous to Nigeria on the projects signed with the previous government because they agreed to pay 85 per cent of the project.

“But the Nigerian government was unable to meet up with its counterpart funding of 15 per cent, so the Chinese government was unable to make any impact on the project,” he said.

The President said he had directed the Ministers of Transportation, Finance, Power, Works and Housing, to revisit the agreements and explore ways of re-approaching the Chinese government for assistance.

He added that the Chinese government had indicated interest to assist Nigeria on project financing through its Export-Import Bank.

Commenting on the proposed N6.077 trillion 2016 budget submitted to the National Assembly, the President said for the first time in Nigeria, the budget will be largely financed from non-oil revenue.

He identified the collapse of the international oil market and oil theft in the Niger Delta as main reasons for projecting more revenues to fund the budget from the non-oil sector.

“The theft of the oil market by some Nigerians that happen to live there who feel that the oil belongs to them and not the country is an irritating thing for those of us who participated in the civil war for 30 months in which at least 2 million Nigerians were killed,” he said.

The President also said that the proposed budget would focus on increasing efficiency and transparency in government operations and the blocking of leakages from revenue generating agencies.

He added that the recovered assets of the country would also be used to reduce the budget.

PoliticsDasukigate: Under Probe Bafarawa Shares His Thoughts On Corruption… 5 Key Things by MaBuk(op): 3:14pm On Jan 28, 2016
– He said corruption has become a general thing and that 90 per cent of Nigerians are corrupt, starting from the grassroot.

– The electorate are corrupt; the politicians are either corrupt or forced to be corrupt because when they get to the office they are elected for, their first concern is how to pay the money back. Whether he borrowed from the bank or his godfather will sponsor him is immaterial.

– He said it was common for a man who had nothing before he became governor, to leave office having properties in every city and the society would not probe to find how he got the money to own the buildings he got while in office.

– He said  if corruption is ignored, it is going to swallow the country, therefore everyone must support Buhari in this fight, as he (Buhari) isn’t fighting but warring against corruption.

– For this administration to survive the fight against corruption, he said it is just not about using EFCC or ICPC but that government should open an office for public awareness against corruption.

– According to him, before arresting people or taking any prosecutorial steps, we better start with how to prevent corruption instead of curing the ailment.

Do you agree with himhuh

Cases of the mosquito-transmitted Zika virus have been reported in Germany following confirmation a Danish tourist has also tested positive for the illness.

According to n-tv, “multiple German travel returnees” have been diagnosed with the virus, however the World Health Organisation says there have been two German cases of the virus in tourists returning to the country.

A WHO statement released on 21 January says: “Between 4 and 12 January 2016, the National IHR Focal Point for Germany notified PAHO/WHO of two cases of ZIKA virus infection in German nationals who had returned from Haiti to Germany in late December."

WHO says samples from both patients were collected and sent for laboratory testing at the national reference centre for tropical diseases in Germany and they tested positive.

PoliticsSupreme Court Upholds Wike’s Election As Rivers Governor by MaBuk(op): 6:39pm On Jan 27, 2016
The Supreme has uphold the election of Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party as governor of the oil-rich Rivers State.
The court gave the ruling Wednesday but did not provide reasons for its judgment.
It said detailed reasons for the verdict would be provided on February 12.
The Court of Appeal had on December 16  affirmed the judgment of the Rivers Governorship Election Tribunal.
The appeal court had  ruled that Mr. Wike was not validly elected.
The Rivers Tribunal had earlier on October 24 nullified Mr. Wike’s election.
The tribunal, which delivered its ruling in Abuja, also ordered that a fresh governorship election be conducted in the state.

After the tribunal’s ruling, the governor headed to the Court of Appeal, saying the judgment was untenable.
The petition challenging the election of Mr. Wike as Rivers State Governor was filed by Dakuku Peterside, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, in the election.
The Rivers governorship election, which was criticised by local and international observers, witnessed the largest amount of violence both in its build-up and after the elections.

PoliticsRe: Until Those Who Financed Buhari’s Election With Public Funds Are Charge.. Fayose by MaBuk(op): 6:11pm On Jan 27, 2016
I support you on this Fayose.

Gbam!
PoliticsUntil Those Who Financed Buhari’s Election With Public Funds Are Charge.. Fayose by MaBuk(op): 6:10pm On Jan 27, 2016
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has said that the Federal Government must do more than just talking about whether or not the
Halliburton and Siemens corruption scandals, will be reopened, adding that President Mohammadu Buhari should disabuse the minds of Nigerians
who believed that his fight against corruption was selective and political by going ahead to try those indicted in the Halliburton and
Siemens scams.

Governor Fayose, who commended the Federal Government for saying that the case was not dead, said it was not enough to tell Nigerians that a
case like the Halliburton and Siemens, in which many people have been jailed in other countries, especially the United States and
investigations concluded in Nigeria with those alleged to be involved questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was
not dead. Rather, those already found wanting should be prosecuted.

Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor said; “As it still appears, the
statement made by the Federal Government on the Halliburton and Siemens corruption scandals may not be more than another decoy to
shift the attention of Nigerians from the selective nature of President Buhari’s fight against corruption.”

The governor described the publicised arrest of President Buhari’s associate and All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain, Jafaru Isa,
and his reported refund of N100 million to the EFCC as the first trick used by the Federal Government in its attempt to deceive Nigerians
into believing that the fight against corruption was not selective.

“Like I have maintained, I do not buy into the EFCC story of Jafaru Isa’s refund of N100 million because it raises more questions than
answers and I am also seeing this talks by the Federal Government about reopening of the Halliburton and Siemens scams as an aftermath
of the failure of the Jafaru Isa’s stunt to achieve the desired result.

“This is because unlike the arms deal that the EFCC is investigating, the Halliburton and Siemens scams have been investigated both in
Nigeria and in the other countries. None of the top Nigerian culprits implicated in the $1.5 billion bribery scandal had been questioned and
put on trial in Nigeria while others from other countries were alreadyserving various jail terms.

“Therefore, reopening the Halliburton and Siemens scams should be immediate and total. It should not be another decoy to deceive
Nigerians by giving the impression that the anti-corruption war is not targeted at those opposed to President Buhari in the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) and his own party, the APC.

“Also, the president should go a step further by directing the EFCC to investigate the many petitions written against those who financed his
election and other chieftains of the APC, including Ministers serving in the government presently.

“Until those alleged to be involved in the Halliburton and Siemens scams and those who financed the President’s election with public funds are charged to court, Nigerians will be right in believing that the fight against corruption is only an instrument of settling
political scores.”

Former Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Political Matters, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak, on Wednesday pronounced himself the substantive chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Gulak made the pronouncement inside the National Working Committee Hall at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

He spoke in company with his loyalists, which included former Special Assistant to ex-president, Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe and a former Commissioner in Bayelsa State, Chief Ayakeme Whisky.

Gulak said he decided to take over the leadership of the party following the court order of December 16, 2015, which asked the party to name someone from the North-East to replace the former chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu.

Gulak told the cheering crowd, which included workers at the secretariat, that the NWC must work with him in order to move the party forward.
