Paccus:My longtime follower, thank you very much. Bossman:Thanks Bossman, we almost did a 20yr mortgage, we picked one that give us room to manage on one income. Interest on 6% na die. Lilmessis:Welcome to the thread and thank you very much! ![]() This country has changed the lives of so many people I know. God Bless America!!! |
BunmiBie:Thank you very much! When you arrive, 5years later, your story at worst will be like mine or even exceed the great things that have happened to me. |
MackyNaija:Speaking about choices, What are we doing?? The exact question we started asking when we started searching for a house to buy. Impromptu search, totally unplanned. Our only plan was to leave California, we got to Texas and started house searching the next month! ![]() ..and now, we'll ll be closing soon. ![]() We received an update: Lanscaping phase 1 done, carpets for the rooms ongoing. Outside 85% done after waiting for 3weeks, inside should be 99% done. Next stage will be fence and sod (grass).

sonnie10:Yes Sonnie, fixed at 30yrs. The ARMs look tempting! ![]() My OKC friend closed earlier this year, rate was fixed at 3%. |
MackyNaija:Each time I read about the soot situation in PH and the shortness of breathe I always experienced... For yankee, I go outside to the park on most weekends, look into the skies, embrace the clean air and breath real deep! ![]()
|
MackyNaija: MackyNaija:I clearly remember this day especially the drive through East-West road.. Aba road to Uniport to Kaima Bridge, then past Warri (I relived all my bush work in Ogharefe, Ologbo, Efe, Oben and a host of other locations), then past Benin bypass and ended up at Ore straight to Lagos-Ibadan expressway... ![]() Beautiful country I must say |
MackyNaija:ALL I set out to achieve has been achieved and a whole lot more... My mouth no fit talk am finish! Oluwa You too much!!! Na this one managers deh call "Exceeded Expectations" for annual performance review. ![]() |
MackyNaija:Those people wey talk "Oluwa bu Eze!" know wetin them deh talk... It's been almost 5years and I am grateful! ![]() I'll be counting down while also counting my Blessings and most especially, I cannot skip saying "God Bless America!" |
Dremca:No deh jonse o ![]()

BunmiBie:Almost done for real. Loan already approved and rate locked. Received a call from the loan officer yesterday that underwriting is likely Fully done - no need for resubmission of documents later in August. Income to Purchase price ratio na <2.5, so we go fit survive the 6% loan interest rate. |
Richdee1:Which kinda security you mean? I get plans for: 4 external sides - 8x 4k Re0link cameras + recorder box Garage interior - wyz3 cam connected to the liftmast3r garage door opener Garage external - wyz3 motion activated flood light Front door and all indoor windows - R1ng security package with 24/7 monitoring Overkill? Yea Yea.. Ogun kill all the burglars and home invaders. |
BunmiBie:It's coming along nicely but they keep pushing back the expected completion date. Not a problem for us, our own na make them finish am make we move in. All the bricks should be done by now, cabinets installed, walls painted, base boards done, trims and doors all installed... This week na for vinyl flooring and bathroom tiles. Next should be marble countertops, Electrical trims (sockets, switches etc), final plumbing (faucets, shower heads etc) and HVAC trims (ac vent covers etc).

Where that person wey deh find pictures? America sweet abegi! Confirmed over my trip to Dallas this weekend that I would look good in the 2022 Lexus RX. ![]()

Paccus:If you have the capacity, you can take extra contract jobs or jobs as a consultant... I never signed a non-compete or it's related cousins therefore i can theoretically take another job but I also do not have time for a second job, raising a child is a fulltime job so I am over loaded with tasks already. |
Newusername:I am highly concerned about job prospects post graduation and employer filing thats why I recommended what I did. I do not know much about prospects for mechatronics as I have never looked into it, but for citizens without issues bothering on work authorization, they can do whatever they wanna do.... international students do not have this luxury. |
Was at a city park yesterday, weather was nice, park was clean with adequate parking and very few people there. Texas heat dropped over the weekend to 70+ Fahrenheit. Went out today with my guy from Oklahoma City and his colleague... He has moved to Dallas and came into Austin for a company event. To take picture no even cross my mind...

DannyFX2638:Stay home and press computer all day ![]() Chill work, no preparation to leave home and drive 1hour to work, lunch at home is easy... Currently doing a quality Program Management kind of role for our Global factories (7 factories majorly and some specific shorter term projects across some other factories/lines of business). Some chilling in-between work, only problem is starting can be as early as 7am thrice a week and twice a week I have 9pm meetings with Global teams. The best part is closing for the day and walking approx 5 steps from my "office" to end up at "home from work"

Firefox01:Na you I deh find since... Not forgotten... I work fully remote, will do when I go outside by the weekend. |
RENOWNED2:1. All hope is not lost, get admitted for an MSc in Civil... If you can achieve PR, no problem, you'll get a job easily. My focus was on studies where numerous opportunities abound and employers 'easily' file for immigrants. 2. Get an admission for Civil with the knowledge you'll be switching course... Take courses close to your desired end point... Ask to switch: worst case, you start afresh - lose all 3 courses OR you lose 1 course. You take undergraduate pre-reqs, the switch is finalized. All your sins in Civil are washed away. You become a whole new person, your career is realigned. It will cost you more money and time when compared with someone that did their interest directly and finished in 18 to 24months. |
Floda:Good points ![]() Get a plan and put in the sweat, tears and blood and it will likely click! Aim of this thread achieved - creat a plan and chase it. Learn lessons & Fine tune as you go along and Las Las... Everything go deh alright. ![]() |
Timiofak:Did you get any internship? Intel hires lots of Chemical (process) and Electrical engineers. In Nigeria we focus on Power. Look into Electronics e.g.: Controls, Networking, Systems Design/VLSI, Circuit Design... you might end up as a SWE later on... Make $500,000/annum and they give you chieftancy title in your village ![]() |
BunmiBie:Received. Please modify and delete. |
Timiofak:I actually just logged in today to say, choice of courses in Engineering should be in this order: 1. Computer Science 2. Electrical engineering 3. Number 1 or 2 4. Industrial Engineering, due to its versatility .... 8. Mechanical engineering and all its variants, e too hard ![]() Focus should be anything software related. Opportunities abound and pay is better. Tech is the new Oil n Gas. |
BunmiBie:Miss who?? Flora, you never give am the life saving advice? ![]() Congratulations! Hard to believe they granted you and baby an F2, embassy eyes deh red. |
Paccus: Olumighty123:That's right! ![]() Olumighty123 yhen yhen yhen You too like oshofree ![]() Paccus, how we go take celebrate am?

In roughly 60days, it'd be 5years since I arrived in the US and it has been an interesting and a rewarding ride... We'll gradually wind down as I barely come online to answer questions or write updates. My pikin hold me for neck like bow tie, over-agility deh worry am so from sun up to sun down, she grabs any available time we have outside of work. |
Floda:With this kind statement, my wife go kill you throway ![]() |
Paccus:See Paccus, welcome to where? ![]() Me wey deh plan officially shutdown this thread so people will stop waiting. Busy with life and not always available for NL updating. |
...÷ I have opted for Msc.microbiology in Texas A&M university..Reading through this again and I just have to highlight: Even within the sciences, some course wield more weight than others. Opportunities abound more in Information Technology, Electronics, Engineering (minus Civil) and Math/Stat... Just my experiences. There is a little know path: FAANG Program Manager or Amaz0n Operations Manager Both roles are 'easy' post MBA. |
chiboy429:From simplest (non is easy) to ..... - Marriage, more straightforward - Employer filing (opt to h1b to green card) - Self-petition (national interest waiver) One can also - Apply for the Canadian PR |
isyourboy:I incurred some costs but only what was necessary. Choose an option that allowed me cover the cost until a new tenant was found. It was cheaper than paying for 2 months upfront. If your rent is around $1200 monthly, just pay and break - the stress will be too much for the money you'll save. In our case, a two month penalty was closer to $6,000. If the home owner allows, You can I. Sub lease the apartment, landlord still gets their rent monthly II. Find a new tenant to complete your term III. Find a new tenant to start a new lease after you leave (most times at a higher rent for the landlord) IV. Negotiate your way out of it, ask to pay less. Abandonment is not an option, you'll have collectors on your neck for the full sum + a penalty. |

me I don miss you gan
