Well, you should know the type of slot that can accommodate an sdcard. If both slots are exact same size, then it is the mtk version. If not, then it is one of the Snapdragon versions.

Note 3 mtk has octa-core, while the SD variant has hexa-core.

Note 4 mtk has deca-core, while the SD variant has octa-core.

Check the MIUI version. There's a difference between different variants. The first 3 letters show the exact variant

Redmi Note 3 SD LHO or MHO

Redmi Note 3 SE MHR

Note that SE is the special edition i.e. the one that supports Glo 4g band

you guys are not getting it. So if someone wants to sell a xiaomi phone for me I will tell him to wait let me install cpuZ first before I will buy. In this case the guy in question sells fairly used phones and I happened to be doing window shopping then I saw the phone out of curiosity I asked him how much and he said 25k it's obvious he does not know the real value of the phone or it has stayed long with him so that's why he wanted to sell it off its redmi note 3/32gig variant. In this situation I know he will not allow me to start installing apps b4 I buy the phone. That was why I asked if there is any other way to check through the phone to know if it's sd or mtk.

Check for the specs online and also ask questions the way you just did., or download cpu z if you have access to the phone.

i checked online and saw that the phone have three variants. This particular one is gold colour.
I had the phone with me but there was no time to start downloading cpu z. Is there no other way of checking?

Of course, both phones are essentially thesame package, just an extra 1000mah battery plus a metal body on the Note 3. So long both processors are the same, expect a poor battery experience.
