Many years ago, prior to the advent of search engines, startups and small scale businesses scamper for the leftovers of the market share, thanks to the dominance of the “big players”. The big players like Guinness, Procter & Gamble, PZ Cussons spent billions of naira in product awareness, brand promotion and publicity using outbound marketing, looking out for the geographical concentration of their target market and using the traditional means of marketing to reach them. The startups and SME’s were in no way, positioned for those kind of spending sprees, they never had the financial muscles to introduce new products, worst still, create new markets. Everyone know the rest of the story, the big players dominated the markets and grew by geometric progression while the small businesses were the vocal minority that grew in arithmetical progression. When Google invented their search engine, it was meant to index, sort and rank results to meet the desire of the searcher. Today, more than 600,000 searches are made every second. Search engines has turned out to becoming the biggest marketing tool of the 21st century. Today, consumers are more enlightened, people know that most products are the same, they know that the difference lies in branding and product differentiation. Right now, consumers are smarter, more powerful and adventurous. Brands no longer tell them what they need, they now search for what they think they need. Since they can’t ask God, they can ask Google and other search engines. These search engines educate them on the products, who sells the product or service and their contact information. Now, this is inbound marketing. Driving sales by optimizing your online visibility. In the last few years, smart small and medium scale businesses have been able to gain huge market shares by optimizing their online visibility. Google is the world’s most trusted credibility index and having your growing business on the first page of the Google search engine result page when a product or service you offer is searched is a privilege people can kill for. For example, an event company in asaba will gain the biggest market share if they rank on the first page of the google search on the “event companies in Asaba” keyword. They will get more calls and close more deals than any other event company not ranking on search engine result pages in Asaba. Now, market leadership is no longer a financial challenge but an internet challenge. How well is your business positioned to fight for the greater market share this year? sexymoma:You have joined bahd gang. So you have been the one feeding my wife with those fantasies? Let her come back today, her case shall be different. |
By Niyi Sodimu So much news have recently been circulating in the media regarding the operations of Arik Air that I thought I should make my own little contribution. It is incontestable that Arik has about the largest fleet of planes in the industry allowing them to also have a wider coverage than most of our other airline companies, some of which are now moribund, sadly. Considering some of the accusations and counter-accusations against/by Arik such as delay flights, delay/loss of luggage inter alia, I found myself recalling one of my numerous unsavoury experiences on Arik Air. When Arik first came to town, I used to think that this particular airline loaded at Jibowu park until I subsequently realised to the contrary. You see, I have never been a fan of Arik Air due to certain reasons which included its unreliability and disrespect for people’s time, non-observance of accurate or near accurate flight schedules and sticking to time among others. So, Arik Air was always my last option. On Wednesday, December 4, 2013, I was to fly Arik from Lagos to Uyo. Why Arik, you ask, since I do not like their services? Well, I was constrained as Aero did not have an afternoon flight for that day, and as I had decided to stay off Dana due to obvious reason at the time, I had no other choice. It was too late to go to Jibowu. I arrived at the local wing of the Murtala Mohammed Airport 1 at about 12.30 on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, to catch a flight to Uyo for a matter coming up the following day at the Uyo Judicial Division of the Federal High Court. As usual, I had pre-booked my flight. The flight was scheduled to operate at 14:15. Upon my arrival at the airport, I immediately proceeded to the check in counter to obtain my boarding pass and perhaps check in my luggage. It was at that point that I realised that the 14:15 flight time was even a rescheduled time from the previous 10.45 or thereabout that the service was initially scheduled to operate. I was not surprised because at other times, I have received endless SMSs from Arik, scheduling and rescheduling its flight times to the point that I was wondering if they were outside or above aviation rules and regulations. “Well, I am in Nigeria, and anything goes in Nigeria,” I thought to myself. While waiting at the departure lounge, an announcement was made informing we, the passengers, that the flight had been further rescheduled to operate at 17.05 due to the usual esoteric excuse – ‘operational reasons.’ Now, I do not know the rules of the NCAA or the FAAN or any other law regarding delay of flights, but one thing I recall is that I had lodged a complaint against this same airline company which complaint never materialised into anything concrete. I still keep wondering what happened to my handwritten complaint to the FAAN and NCAA on the issue of the endless show of irresponsibility by this particular airline company. Now, to the banal excuse ‘operational reasons,’ the only picture or imagination that fixated on my mind is a mechanic hurriedly fixing a broken down vehicle for the commercial driver, while the driver is pacing up and down, sweating beside the vehicle making calls intermittently to inform his/her employer the stage of the fixing. In the alternative, the driver may have been sent on another journey with the promise to the passengers that “he will soon be here.” Now, these are operational reasons as I understand them to mean as used by these airlines. Depending on how soon the issue is resolved, you keep getting the same excuse – operational reasons. It never changed. After endless excuses on the pretext of ‘operational reasons,’ I concluded within me, ‘Arik can lie for Africa.’ Back to the departure lounge, I had reached a boiling point. So, in my usual dramatic style, I jumped off my seat, visibly upset, I proceeded to the check-in counter and demanded to see the Manager. I was informed that the Manager was initially unavailable, but by the time my voice started reverberating steadily in the arena, the manager miraculously emerged from nowhere. She apologised profusely and I could see her getting embarrassed in the process. I saw in her eyes someone who has lost the will and zeal to keep on lying. I felt for her, but then what could I do! I had a destination to reach and needed to get there fast. Thankfully, boarding was eventually announced at about 17.20. Immediately this was done, you should have seen the crowd that scurried towards the exit point of the lounge ready for onward transportation to the tarmac and onto the aircraft. I was speechless. At some point, I was almost convinced that I was the only one scheduled for the flight considering the silence that greeted my uproar and protest of the endless inconsiderate and irresponsible delays. I was deflated that it took a while before I could even stand to my feet and join the crowd. My jaw had dropped. It took a fellow passenger to advise me to close my mouth to avoid flies from entering. That was the day I learnt another lesson of life, in your personal struggles in life, even the one that will impact the generality of the people, OYO l’owa (you are on your own). I quietly proceeded, with these sabo people (saboteurs), to the tarmac and onto the aircraft. The captain apologised profusely in a voice that seemed to me to have mastered the art by constancy, similar to the pattern of a cheating boyfriend or girlfriend who after apologising and telling you it was the devil, will seal it with those sweet-for-something words, “you know I love you and no one else can take your place,” (liar someone just attempted to) followed with a sheepish smile that leaves an impression of ‘by the time I am done with you, you will see your mother and call her father,’ (the way it appears in the eye of an imaginative observer, as me.) I wonder if that fraud will ever end in a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship. Anyway, we must have taken off the runway at 18.00 or thereabout. It was a rushed take off similar to a bus that had made another arrangement and endless promises to another set of customers. That moment when you tell someone “I am coming” when in actual fact you are walking away in the opposite direction. I was not surprised a bit. At about 19.30, we were still airborne, and I thought that was quite unusual for a flight that usually took approximately 55 minutes. Presently, the Captain’s voice came on and announced that he could not see the runway due to power cut at Uyo airport. Oh dear! We had been hovering for about 25 minutes waiting for electricity to be restored all to no avail. Many thoughts went through my mind; ‘was it that there was no fuel in the generating set to power up the runway,’ or ‘was there no oil in the gen set, what about the plug, perhaps the rope of the I-better-pass-my-neighbour generator suddenly cut in the process of pulling it to start the gen-set.’ ‘Hurry up and start the gen-set,’ I caught myself musing, ‘or line the tarmac with candles or lanterns, which ever was available.’ Suddenly, with the speed of a student that encounters the school principal after scaling the school fence into the school compound during assembly period, the pilot accelerated and increased altitude. Behold! We were on our way back to Lagos, just as he had earlier warned. I was alarmed, upset and scared all at the same time! “But maka why?” I asked in ghost-mode, which mode had activated itself, with no expectation of an answer. The thoughts were promptly followed with the tune of ‘nearer my God to thee’ cruelly playing in my mind with the sadness that accompanied the violin rendition in the movie, the Titanic. I became morbid, thankfully, the ‘blood of Jesus’ took over and I immediately began to confess all my sins with alacrity. The ones that I remembered and the ones that I didn’t. I made sure I covered the field just in case. In fact, I promptly forgave all my enemies that I had earlier planned to deal with. (I later revoked the forgiveness, ..lol). There was no time to lie against the devil, so, I took responsibility for all of them. Shortly after, the Captain announced that due to fuel shortage, we would have to proceed to Port Harcourt to refuel; the announcement sounded more like a warning that the fuel would probably not take us there. Then a flurry of thoughts followed the earlier ones in an orderly sequence “why did I take this plane sef,” “why didn’t I just go to Jibowu and take Ekene-dili-Chukwu,” “what if the fuel does not take us to PH, can I alight at Port and tell the conductor to leave the Harcourt out,” “can the conductor just open the door for me to jump-out-in-motion, Lagos molue style, or even open the window slightly for me to crawl out and hang onto a cloud, after all, I see characters hang onto clouds in cartoons.” Jeez, I was not alone in my thoughts as I heard the ‘sabo people’ now murmuring under their breathe why others froze to their seats like bread and peanut butter. I wondered why their voices were not as loud as it usually is inside molue buses; hypocrites. They cannot claim not to have entered molue before, even on their way to the airport sef; aren’t we all coming from Lagos afterall! Pretenders! Thankfully, before long, we safely arrived at PH airport, by which time I was drained of energy and talk-time due to the endless applications that were running in the background – my mind. We refuelled and were further informed that electricity had been restored in Uyo and the runway lit up for our arrival. “Nonsense!” I said boldly and with much confidence this time around like a victim whose father had just arrived the bullying scene. “Why did it take this long to power-up the place.” I was ready to sue Arik for delay, the NCAA and FAAN for dereliction of duty, and finally the Akwa Ibom State for using ‘I-better-pass-my-neighbour,’ for its airport operations. Everyone was agreeing with my proposals, but they forgot to ask for my name and office address. Hypocrites! 100% Nigerian. After about 20 minutes of refuelling, we were airborne, once more, on our way to Uyo, this time around, hoping and praying that the fuel would be able to sustain the light by the time we would be landing. We eventually touched down at approximately 21.30. 3 hours 30 minutes after take-off from Lagos and 9 hours of my arrival at Lagos Airport. Immediately we touched down and the aircraft came to a complete stop, or perhaps, I thought, I jumped out of the aircraft and onto hard solid ground, knelt down on the tarmac, kissed the ground and promised that I shall not fly Arik air again; instead I would take keke or okada back to Lagos. shehu97:Did you just hear yourself. Why would someone give birth to children he or she cannot take care of. That bill will only create more liability for the govt, weaken the economy, encourage lazyness, discourage family planning. Instead, abortion should be legalized in the north and foster care centers should be created by the govt for the children of unfit parents, while those parents would be sent to jail. With this move, nobody will beg again in the north. |

Whenever the subject of SEO comes up, everyone starts thinking of keyword density and manipulation. Most businesses want to be visible on Google search engine. Someone mentioned that anything not found on Google search engine does not exist. Since Google is entrusted with the huge responsibility of making only legitimate and reputable websites visible, they have worked out several filters that help them index, sort and rank websites accordingly. This is just more than keyword optimization. 1. Country Top Level Domain extensions: Websites built with TLD extensions like .gov, .ng, .edu will most likely rank higher in a local search. For example, any university with .edu.ng extension will most likely rank higher in Nigeria than another university with .org extension. However, a website with a top level domain extension might not rank high globally. 2. HTML Errors/ W3C Validation: Websites built with a lot of html errors will be identified by web spiders as a poor site. Such websites will definitely not make the ranks as Google patent seeks to promote quality. 3. Use of Wordpress CMS to design website: Wordpress is a rank friendly content management site that possesses a feature that is not prevalent in most content management sites. Reasons being that it relates one piece of content to another, a group of posts to another and is responsive by default, hence, it builds threads that help web spiders link and rank websites accordingly. 4. Latent Semantic Indexing Keywords in content: To break this down, let’s take apple for example. Apple is a fruit and also an IT company. You will find out that the mentioned words are semantically close. This feature helps the search engine extract meaning from words with more than one meaning. Aso rock and White house are other examples. Someone searching these keywords is not expecting results for an igneous rock located somewhere in north-central Nigeria or any house painted white respectively. 5. Image Optimization: Search engines crawls over images in a website and retrieves information about the image as regards their file names, alt text, description and caption. This is basically for two reasons. First, to check the originality of the graphic content on your site. This is a sign of quality. Secondly, to check whether the description and title of the images on the site matches the description of the site. This is a sign of legitimacy. It tracks spammers on the loose. 6. Recency of Content Updates: Websites that are constantly refreshed, updated and redesigned are most likely to be regarded as active websites and are rewarded with prominence. Google caffeine update favors recently updated content, especially the time sensitive searches. Also, identical content on a site can impair the site’s search visibility. However, Rel=canonical tag, when properly used, will prevent Google from considering the pages as duplicates. 7. Helpful Supplementary Content and Google Plugins: These are indicators of quality. Examples of supplementary contents include currency converters, loan interest calculators. Google plugins like YouTube are engineered to boost website content. Some movie and media companies may prefer to optimize their video search to gain greater visibility among and content lovers. 8. Use of Google analytics and Google webmaster tools: These are features that do not only increase a web page’s indexing, but increases its ranking as web analytics on a site speaks volumes about a site’s reputation. Still on reputation, user reviews also enhances a site’s reputation and subsequently, ranking. 9. Responsiveness: A website is said to be responsive when it can be viewed from mobile devices without the quality being diminished. Recent Google terms and conditions has categorically stated that non-responsive website will not be visible on mobile. That’s a bad news for businesses still operating on non-responsive sites as research has shown that more than 75% of Google searches are made from mobile devices. Now, who wants to optimize a non-responsive site? 10. Page Loading via Chrome: Google may rely on chrome browser user data to estimate server, html speed signals and most importantly, data usage. Heavy sites might load slowly and that is not an indicator for quality. Source: Justerberg.com/blog |
With Solution Export (+1 310 735 4077, +44-7828165139), you can export cars to Nigeria from UK or any other country, nevertheless, its a complicated process. The import procedures in Nigeria require a permit for importing a car or any other vehicle to Nigeria. Laws and the rules can change any time. For example, a law requiring all imports and exports to have a Cargo Tracking Note (CTN) was introduced in late 2010 and it was withdrawn in 2011. Earlier cars more than 10 years old were not allowed to be imported to Nigeria. But now, the limit has been revised to 15 years and a car manufactured in 1999 can be imported. It is advisable to check the most recent rules in Nigeria regarding the car imports, before you ship a car to Nigeria. Here are some information that can help anybody to make decisions when shipping a car to Nigeria. Container or Ro-Ro? You can ship your car in a container or in a Ro-Ro (Roll on - Roll off) ship. In a 20ft container only one car can be sent. A 40ft container can hold two or three cars depending on their sizes. Cars are well strapped inside the container and you can send your personal stuff too in the container. If you are sending two or three cars you may consider a 40-footer or two people can send their cars in one container. Sometimes this may be arranged by the agent. Sending a car in a container is more expensive than sending in a Ro-Ro ship. But it offers safety from stripping of parts such as lamps, badges, spare wheels, tools and stereos etc. It also prevents the damages like denting and bruising during driving into and out of the ship. Ro-Ro ships are specially designed to carry vehicles. They have holds like big parking lots and facilities such as stars clasps and clamps etc. to secure the cars to the deck. Sending in a Ro-Ro ship is the cheapest way to send a car to Nigeria. Insurance The insurance charges for sending a car in a Ro-Ro ship are more than for sending in a container. Ensure that the insurance covers the risks from the time of handing over to the shipper to taking over by the consignee. Don’t forget taking several photos from different angles including photos of the dash board showing the extra equipment fixed. These will help when making a claim if the necessity arises. Import Documents Check whether all the import documents required by Nigeria Customs, such as the letter of authority from the Bureau of Standards in Africa the import permit and from ITAC, are available. A More Reliable and Easy Way Easiest way to ship a car to Nigeria is to handover the job to a logistics company that offers total solutions. An experienced logistics provider will take off whole burden from your shoulders. They will attend to all the necessary things and you’ll find it is easy, cheaper and free of risks. Logistics companies offers many services in the logistics sector and specialists in door to door delivery of any type of cargo from personal effects to large consignments of commercial goods by from any place to any corner of the planet. Whether it is by sea freight, by air or by land. There are Nigerian Logistics companies that provide total logistic solution to clients dealing with cargo to and fro Nigeria. Abiriba is a very beautiful town located in the northern part of Abia State, south eastern Nigeria. It has a beautiful landscape that turns everyone into a landscape photographer. Apart from the rich cultural heritage, It boasts of the largest agglomeration of architectural wonders in any rural community in Nigeria. A lot of urban geographers will be tempted to give it an outright classification as an urban settlement based on the architectural and infrastructural developments. However, most people living there are indigenes and the mostly, primary occupations like farming which rather leaves the classification of quasi-urban as more appropriate. The indigenes of Abiriba are well traveled and knows what is in vogue and this over the years has affected the architectural patterns in the town. People travelled to major cities across the globe only to come back home to replicate the architectural designs they saw. In some cases, folks have brought European architects to design their houses. The people cannot be said to be mere money-bags rather they are people of style. A story was told of how the great Zik of Africa named it the Small London in the 50's during his campaign tour of the town. The story had it that in the course of the campaign that Zik was pressed and needed the use the toilet and his political associate from the town took him to his house where he used a WC. A bewildered Zik came out to proclaim the town as small London because such facilities were only common in the western world. In January 2014, a friend and I took a photography tour of the town. We took many amazing different shots. Unlike most Igbo towns where people live in a dispersed settlement, Abiriba people live in nucleated settlements similar to what is obtainable in Yoruba land. The advantage this gives me as landscape and architectural photographer is that I was able to capture the relationships and the interconnection of the people in every shot. Sometimes, similarities in design of some houses will suggest to you that the owners of such houses are either brothers or close friends like in the case of J.N Kalu and Ukuku Dike near the Achi tree at the centre of the town and the two brothers’ mansions at Ugwuezi. Sometimes, it might only be fences that suggests such relationships like the Amsco House that has multiple mansions in one compound. Some siblings builds close to each other like the Ezera brothers at Amamba and a whole lot of others. Abiriba is a typical place where you cannot point at one mansion as the most beautiful. In attempt to showcase the most beautiful house in town, some people have built up to two or three residences in the community. Its possible most need bigger spaces for their expanding families but there are also few others that needs more befitting edifice. Many have also knocked down mansions and renovated to a more seemingly befitting ones. Some mansions have stayed up to hundred years but there are many mansions that have stayed more than seventy years. However, the 80's saw a boom in building proliferation in the town and that coincides with the period of economic boom for the indigenes. It is sad that we may not be able to see most of these photos here because of space constraint but I hope to create a site that will show more photos than texts and then I hope to showcase most of the Abiriba photos we made in the tour. However, it is also important to reiterate the efforts of the communal institutions like the age grade in not just developing the town but also in sustaining its beauty by contributing in erecting major social infrastructures like roads, schools, libraries, hospitals and parks . These have aided in no small measure in creating beautiful scenes in the town. In Nigeria, photo arts seems to be the least known of all genres of art. Infact there are very few photographers who earns their living from it. Most photographers are busy competing on weddings and events that they miss out on one of the most important aspects of their profession. The excuse of not having buyers for the arts does not arise because we must create the products first before buyers come to appreciate them. My ventures into the world of Photo Artistry was in 2013 when I first participated in an exhibition. I exhibited among artists in other genres of art like painters, sculptors etc. in an exhibition themed "The Revolutionary Artists Exhibition 2013" which held at Oriental Hotel, Lagos. That exhibition did not just open my eyes to the potentials of a photo artist in Nigeria but it also gave me an opportunity to learn the processes of creating beautiful Photo Arts. Here we can discuss some of the processes creating a beautiful photo art. a. Making the shots: To me this is the most important of all the processes. It involves having a clear vision of what you want to shoot. what are those themes that you always like to capture? Does it have a story line? It could be anything that happens around you. Even though a lot of times we travel very far to make awesome photos but some other times, the stories are just around us. In 2013, most of my photos were taken in India the previous year but I have built my collections since then with local Nigerian images. Infact, I made one shot from a wedding I was not paid to cover which I later sold to the celebrants after using it for another exhibition. One must always have the third eye to see the arts around you and the only way to develop that third eye is by consistently making shots. It is understandable that most shots you make in one trip may not give you a lot of materials for the artwork but sometimes, you may just get one or two from a trip though more experienced photographers get much more. Though the descriptions of making the shots seems to be very simple but in reality it sometimes involves much more. Some photos are made at certain times of the day or of the year to get the required attentions from buyers. In making such shots, one has to wait for the elements to come together. One of my most sold works, the 'CMS at Night' was taken out long wait for BRT bus in Lagos Island. It took the bus up to three hours to arrive but that gave me enough opportunity to capture both the day and night versions of the same place and the difference was just clear. b. Editing and Post production: I usually like to quip that a photographer creates his works with his camera and not his computer. However, there is always a time to work with the computer. A lot of times after the shoots, one need to view the photos captured from the computer. Some photos may look very important in the camera screen but when you view them in the computer you may find out that they are not and vice versa. usually the potential of every shot is only known after viewing them from the computer screen. Also some editing software help you to enhance the photos and sometimes transform them too. c. Printing and Framing: Presentation of the work is the most important aspect of it. As an artist, you should have a clear way of presenting your works. Over these years, I have produced most of my works on canvas and that has made it look unique and some people would ordinarily think they are paintings until I tell them otherwise. I have also produced few of my works on wood stickers and papers. sometimes, it depends on the title of the works but most times it's just about styles. However, each material you choose to use has its own cost implications, canvas usually is the most expensive of all the available materials. d. Prices for the artworks: Artworks doesn't have fixed prices. But I think the price any work is sold should be able to take care of all the costs and keep the photographer in business. If more photographers pay attention to this part of the business, it will develop and become a very big sector. More photographers should be able to come together to put up exhibitions and thereby use the opportunities to showcase what they have in their portfolios. Most serial collectors like to buy known names in art and once they see consistency in what you do, they will become interested in collecting your works. I once had a Danish client who was asking if Arts is my source of livelihood and I said yes and he told me that he collects only known names and I told him I may not have been a known name today but one day he would find out that my works have become very expensive that it was better for him to buy when they are still cheap. Wealthy people in Banana Island are known to spend so much on things an average man doesn’t need. Like exotic dogs, peacocks, parrots and pets, vintage cars and wine, tree houses, expensive art works and collections. It’s like a show-off. They don’t gain pleasure by having them but they do whenever they showoff and the average you out there starts screaming, not like you can’t afford a peacock, just that you won’t be able to pay for your house rent if you do. That’s by the way. During my last visit to Banana Island, Something struck my attention. Most homes in Banana Island have something in common, a garden. Am sure you will be like “all that noise for a garden? You must be a bushman”. This piece of outdoor furniture got me starring. A three seater garden swing seat. You don’t get to see it around all the time. Its frame is made of galvanized iron and its lavish canopy shields you from the scorching sun. Dangling on it, I can tell that it will be perfect for gardens, recreational parks, swimming pool sides, children play ground, school play grounds, hotels, worship centers. On a closer look, it’s obvious that it was designed to rock your back, absorb & suspend your weight while oscillating your body frame at a dangling speed of a pendulum. Now, there are 101 indoor activities i can indulge outdoor, i kept fantasizing. Sinking into my swing chair while entertaining my friends, granting a celebrity interview, hosting an outdoor house party, reading my newspapers and magazines, playing my candy rush on my wife’s tablet while escaping our noisy house and seeking asylum in my garden. My fantasies were short-lived. I won’t forgive Tunde, my friend who tapped me on the shoulder, while I was bemused, gazing voraciously at that 3 seater hammock chair. I managed to snap the swing seat with my wife’s tablet but believe me, it’s more adorable than it looks. Hope I didn’t sound mischievous? ![]()
