Celebrities / Check Out President Obama’s Summer Playlist by macquis(m): 2:32pm On Aug 12, 2016
The music loving President of the United States just revealed his last-weeks-of-Summer Playlist.

The daytime playlist begins with some smooth-flowing Wale before dipping into Leon Bridges, Janelle Monáe, Jay Z, Pharrell, and Common. Of course, the president keeps things classic with good-feeling tracks like the Beach Boys’ “Good Vibrations” and late Prince’s “U Got the Look.”

The nighttime playlist delivers a different kind of energy with the president relying on some insanely soothing and soulful voices to ease him into the late hours of the day. D’Angelo, Corinne Bailey Rae, Mary J. Blige, Billie Holiday, and Miles Davis are all rounded up to set the mood for balmy summer Washington, D.C. nights. Obama even throws it back to Chance the Rapper’s old project, Acid Rap, for some “Acid Rain.”

These are definitely some great music selection. Let’s hope Obama links us with a place to listen to and download his playlist.

I’ve always wondered if our dear President Buhari listens to music at all, and if he does, what kind of music will he fancy listening to ?

Celebrities / Celebrity Sentenced To Jail For Calling His Girlfriend by macquis(m): 8:47pm On Aug 11, 2016
Can you imagine a guy sentenced to jail for just calling an ex-girlfriend Well that’s the case of hardcore-rapper Young Buck.

Rapper Young Buck is heading back to jail for transgressing the terms of his probation after several heated arguments with his ex-girlfriend.

Last month, Young Buck was sent to jail after the Nashville native threatened to burn down his ex-girlfriend’s apartment via text message.

Things climaxed when he allegedly kicked in door of the woman’s apartment to collect belongings of his that as it turns out, were not there.

Young Buck was released on $5,000 bail for the incident in July and ordered once again, to have no contact with the woman.

Instead of complying with the order, police claim Young Buck contacted – or tried to contact the woman – more than 100 times on August 1st.

The rapper, born David Darnell Brown, will now spend another seven months in prison for a 2012 gun charge, which he already served 18 months for.

Chris Brown Slams Malia Obama’s Critics After She Was Caught Smoking Marijuana.

Yesterday, the internet was caught up in a pandemonium after a video of Malia Obama smoking what appeared to be weed at the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago went viral.

It was only a few days ago that the 18-year-old was criticized after a video of her flashing her butt and twerking was shared on social media. So when this new video hit the net yesterday, there was a major uproar amongst Americans on Twitter with many questioning Malia’s morals. Some even took a shot at her father, President Obama, saying “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”

However, R&B singer Chris Brown has come to Malia’s defence, slamming critics for dragging the young teenager. The father of one didn’t think it was right that Malia was criticized for smoking weed.

Celebrities / Funk Flex Unloads On Drake by macquis(m): 8:16am On Aug 08, 2016
I really don’t understand how Drake who now goes by the pseudonym 6 god keeps getting himself into trouble with fellow black artists. I think he’s kinda earned the title “The beef factory.”

It would suprise you to know that Drake has had squabbles with not just acts as Pusha T, Common, Ludacris, Meek mill, Jay Z, Diddy Drirty Money, Chris Brown, Joe Budden, Ebro, Funk Flex but has also had issues with President Barack Obama.

His most recent fight with Funk Flex of Hot 97 has kept things hot in the Hip-hop community tho.

Drake invited a fight with Funk Flex when he demanded Hot 97 fire him. As a result of this the radio man got pissed and unloaded on Drake.

Check out his some of his allegations against Drizzy:

1. He disparaged Drake’s fan base, saying “70 percent of your fans wear high heels. The other 30 percent are guys who wear sandals.”

2. He said Drake was the one who leaked the’ R.I.C.O.’ reference track which started the whole Quentin Miller controversy. Funk believes Drake did so because he had heard chatter that he had subliminally dissed Meek on ‘R.I.C.O’, and wanted to prove it wasn’t him it was the ghostwriter to avoid any heat from Mill.

3. He said Drake can’t be a top five emcee because he doesn’t write his own material. (But acknowledged he’s a good entertainer.)

4. He said it was Drake’s camp which insisted video of his notorious 2009 Hot 97 Blackberry freestyle be released. Funk claims OVO was playing the long game there, even though the video showed Drizzy was bad at freestyling. “You wanted people to think that you wrote your bars. Because you knew the day would come when people might see and question your pen,” Flex explained.

5. He alleges Drake pays Future to go on tour with him, because the partnership gives him street cred.

6. He said that Drake wasn’t injured by a punch in his 2014 scrap with Diddy. Instead, his arm was in a sling because his security guard ripped it out of the socket while trying to pull him away from the conflict.

Celebrities / Snoop Dogg Disses Donald Trump And Endorses Kanye West For 2020 Presidential Run by macquis(m): 11:22am On Aug 07, 2016
Snoop Dogg who was once cozy with Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump, has recently severed ties with the billionaire as a result of his controversial policies towards Mexicans and Muslims.

According to Snoop, he was once friendly with Donald Trump. The Hip-Hop megastar roasted Donald Trump in March of 2011 during Comedy Central’s “Roast of Donald Trump.”

But Snoop had to cut his ties as soon as Trump started his bid for President of the United States of America.

“I kinda was cool with him until I heard some of his views and perspectives and that may be back up off them, cause a lot of the views and perspectives that he has, I have friends that represent those facets in life, whether they Muslims, Mexicans, whatever they are,” Snoop Dogg said in an interview on N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN’s hit podcast series “Drink Champs.”

“That’s f##ked up how they singling people out and we don’t do that,” Snoop Dogg said, referencing Hip-Hop culture’s power to influence the upcoming election.

“We are multicultural. We f##ks with everybody,”
Snoop Dogg said . “So if you’re still singling out motherf##kers your might as well single yourself out, cause you don’t know who is connected, you don’t know who the plug is.”

Instead, rapper Snoop Dogg officially endorsed another candidate. No, it’s not Hillary Clinton.

Like 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg has authenticated Kanye West’s bid for President in 2020 and gave the Chicago emcee his official endorsement – just like Donald Trump did after Kanye made his announcement in 2015.

“Kanye West can’t be no more crazier than that motherf##ker Donald Trump” Snoop Dogg said.

Celebrities / Album Review On Adekunle Gold’s Debut Album "Gold" by macquis(m): 4:40pm On Jul 31, 2016
When Adekunle Kosoko popularly known by stage name Adekunle Gold released the Album art/Track list for his then yet-to-be released debut Album and also announced the release date of the Album come 28th of July, fans and music lovers displayed exuberance on social media platforms as their long wait for the Album had now been given a near expiration date.

Loyalists of the YBNL signee who couldn’t curb their wild enthusiasm desperately sought illegal means through which they could lay hold of songs from the Album, even before the Album’s release date. There really was so much pandemonium on the internet as regards the GOLD Album. At one point I asked myself, what’s all the rave about Adekunle’s Album? Afterall this wasn’t the first time a Nigerian artist was releasing an Album nau. It later dawned on me the treatment the yet-to-be released GOLD Album was getting was as a result of the 4 stellar singles (Sade, Orente, Pick up & Ready) he had released prior to the completion of the GOLD Album. This alone heightened anticipation for the debut project.

And then Adekunle stunned us by releasing his highly anticipated Album two days ahead of schedule. Fans and Music lovers could now officially immerse themselves in Adekunle’s Golden pool.

The 55 minute 16-track Album titled GOLD was crafted by producers as Seyikeyz, Oscar, Pheelz, B Banks, Sleekamo and Masterkraft. And was released under the YBNL record label.

Gold Intro: What better way to start the debut Album than to open with a beautiful intro that brings to light the artist’s rite of passage, his struggles and how he came about the name Adekunle Gold. The latter of which he named the Album after.

My Life: Adekunle embraces his music roots on this one. Belonging to the Juju and Highlife music genre this piece has Adekunle advising critics and haters to desist from antagonising him, he further reminds them that his success is God’s making. I really enjoyed the lead-guitar and bata-drumming on this one.

Beautiful Night: A love song in itself, this track brings to light a conversation between two lovers. “Its a beautiful night Let me love you baby tomorrow can wait.”

Orente: Another awesome piece. Adekunle takes his time to emphasise on the need for all to Love, appreciate, and adore his woman. “Ebami Ki Orente” He appreciates her for her faithfulness and sticking with him through thick and thin.

Nurse Alabere: Another ballad as its predecessors. On this beautiful piece Adekunle brings to light an experience of heartbreak. ‘Nurse Alabere’ captures that forlorn feeling of losing your heart.

Friend zone: Adekunle speeds up the tempo on this one. On this track he kinda connects with the experience of every guy who’s asked a girl out and gotten nothing more than the friend zone reply.

Paradise: Great jam!!! All that percussion and choral voices, truly heavenly. The song highlights the sought of intoxication and security an undying love can bring. There’s quite a similarity between Adekunle’s “Paradise” and Jon Bellion’s “Hand of God.”

No Forget: The only Collaboration on this masterpiece. Adekunle recruits Simi on this one. Adekunle pleads with his lover not to forget how far they’ve come and what they’ve been through. He also takes his time to plead that she shouldn’t allow the sweet-talk of other guys sway her.

Pick up: A feel good-song in itself belonging to the Pop genre. This one has Adekunle conversing with his creator. He pleads with God to pick up his call (answer his prayers) and not put him to shame.

Work: As the title goes, Adekunle advises his listeners to work and shun fake life.

Temptation: This track highlights a tale of the test of true friendship. The character in the song is caught in a tempting situation as his soldier friend’s hot wife invites him to taste of her goodies. But like scriptural joseph he is strong in the face of betrayal, showing an exemplary discipline that we can all connect and aspire to.

Ariwo ko: Adekunle infuses Indian melody on this one. The song serves the purpose of correcting an impression that “music is not noise” . It seems to be directed at someone in the industry or generally speaking, wack artists known for crafting songs of superficial quality.

Fight for You: As the name implies this song has Adekunle showing the length he would go to make his girl happy and keep her safe.

Ready: Everyone yearns for love even Adekunle Gold. Arguably the best song on the Album. Who wouldn’t fall in love with this great song’s melody and beat? Definitely nobody. Regardless of your age this song is sure to get you moving.

Sweet me: Another danceable song. Produced by
Masterkraft this song with a high-life-feel is sure to get you rocking on the dance floor.

Sade: Adekunle’s debut single. This single brought the King of Photoshop to limelight as a talented music artist. Released in 2015, the song has Adekunle covering British boy band One Direction’s “Story of my life”. He tweaks it a little by adding a Fuji-feel.

A great Album if you ask me, worthy of being called a classic. The Album does set a conceptual standard. My only fear is that most Nigerian music listeners being who they are might not really appreciate this work of art, owing to their fierce affinity with Dance-hall/club songs.

Ratings 8.2/10

Family / Breast Ironing – Girls Face Mutilation by macquis(m): 10:00pm On Jul 29, 2016
Have you ever heard of Breast ironing, Breast flattening or even Breast pressing?

Well breast ironing is the process of
pounding or massaging a pubescent girl’s breast with hard or heated object to try to make them stop developing or disappear.

Whenever you hear this topic there is always some sort of religion or culture based reason behind it. It is more rampant in Cameroon and some other west African countries. Just imagine the horror of it. Imagine a hot stone charging to your chest, imagine yourself being gripped and held down with force with a hot stone piercing through your skin roasting all your tissues, imagine yourself groaning in pain or enduring the pain woosh woosh ,burning tissues, layer by layer. Some breast pressing are done in less painful way through the use of spatular or hammer.

You may think, what is the purpose of this? The reason behind breast ironing is to ptotect girls from being over sexualised since the breast has become the center of attention in any woman in terms of attractiveness. Breast ironing is also done to prevent girls from being raped or sexually abused or subjected to early marriage because breasts show how mature a girl is.

How unnecessary is this? On a scale of 1-10? 10. Why does so much attention have to be directed at protecting girls from men and so little directed at curbing the excessive superiority mentality in boys. We lock our girls up, cover them from head to toe all in the name of protecting them. We forget to tell our boys to respect a girl, that is why we have rapists walking our streets.

The woman’s body was not made to attract or send off men. We tell girls ‘your body belongs to your husband ‘ they start to think they are intimacy gadgets. That is why even husbands sexually abuse and exploit their wives . Your body belongs to you and only you, own it and love it.

As girls or women we are taught that our rights do not really count as long as our ‘purity’is kept because we have to protect our family’s honour. Men should be responsible for controlling their own urges just as how girls are naturally expected to never show theirs.
Living in a world where girls aren’t safe because of the natural state of their body. Breasts will grow, it will show, and if she says no, respect her and go.

Breast ironing is wrong for whatever reason. No one should be subjected to such horror all in the name of protection.

I have a friend who told me that her breast was pressed at 9 and I didn’t even understand why it was done because I was really young. But now that I do, I totally understand. Considering her religion I can understand a mother’s pressure to try and protect her daughter.

Who do we blame? Do we blame the mother for being protective? The culture for seeming ignorant and inhuman? The 70 year old politician who wants to marry a 9 year old girl? Or the crazy rapists who wants to molest a 9 year old because she has grown breasts?

Girls should never be subjected to such horror because their body is the way it is. Boys should be trained and curbed. Do not tell your daughters to stay in all the time, tell your boys to be decent.

Boys should be trained and curbed . Do not tell your daughters to stay in all the time, tell your boys to be decent.

Music/Radio / Without A Music Video Drake's One Dance Still Makes History by macquis(m): 8:59pm On Jul 29, 2016
As Canadian rapper and singer Drake gravitates towards making UK chart history for the most stay at number one with bit single One Dance , it becomes amazing that Drake could achieve this feat without a music video.

You might ask, is a music video all that important ?

Well, yes it is. Here’s why:

According to Wikipedia Modern music videos are primarily made and used as a marketing device intended to promote the sale of music recordings .

Music on the Internet is consumed and forgotten about daily, if not hourly. So from a record label point of view, an artist needs something bigger than an MP3 to get noticed. They need strong creative visuals to give them a substantial competitive advantage over their peers. Look at FKA Twigs and Tyler The Creator, perfect examples of two musicians who have made their visual impact just as powerful as their music. Music videos form a large part of an artist’s general creative vision and output. When you can stream music anywhere and everywhere a music video is a focal point — it draws your attention, or at least helps to.

“Even if everything is now digital, who doesn’t want to have more than just the track…I would say the track is the burger and the music video is the full meal deal with fries and Coke” — Simon Cahn

In some ways music videos have become just as or sometimes even more important than the artwork due to the way we now consume music. We used to buy a physical album with nice cover design, but now we consume on a plethora of platforms. Can you remember the artwork of the last track you heard? I can’t. But I CAN remember the video. It’s like a digital CD case for the track.
A video connects an artist and a listener, as well as connecting a listener to an audience. In many ways, they are an important medium for contemporary pop culture and technology. Fashion trends such as Pharrell’s hat and dance trends such as The Dougie created cultural sensations synonymous of that time in ways that are quicker and more accessible than TV and film. Who can forget Miley Cyrus too?

A bad video can suck the life out of a song, and a good video can make a song become a hit. Take the example of DJ Snake’s Turn Down For What  — that song had been out for a while, but it took the video directed by The Daniels to turn the song into a complete smash. Another good example would be Gangnam Style  — that video certainly left the audience remembering the song.

So to know Drake’s One Dance could garner this much success through streaming services like Tidal, Apple Music and Spotify, without the aid of a music video is quite appalling.

After asking for just "One Dance" Drake’s feet now hurts because it has lasted nearly four months on the charts.

Music/Radio / Davido’s Debut EP With SONY MUSIC To Be Released In September by macquis(m): 5:36pm On Jul 29, 2016
Finally a dream come true for the Afro-fushion hit maker.

Davido who was signed in January 2016 to SONY MUSIC Entertainment recently announced that he has completed work on his EP. He made the revelation today on networking app, Snapchat, stating that the green light has been given for him to release his the project. The EP, which is yet to be titled, also comes through with videos.

From his Snapchat handle:

“I’m happy I waited, I’m about to turn up. Happiest day of my life, finally got my date of release. September about to be a movie, best music and videos I ever made in my life.”

The entire EP recording process is being handled by Efe Ogbeni, the Sony Music executive, who brokered the deal, and works extensively with RCA Records, a subsidiary of Sony, which Ayo Jay is also signed to. Photos of the singer in the studio has been a social media regular in the past three months.

After working with Meek Mill to release ‘Fans mi’ in 2015, the singer has more collaborations up his sleeves, with a few confirmed to make the project. US singer Tinashe is a big part of it, and will feature in Davido’s forthcoming single. The video has already been shot, with photos on the internet. Tinashe is half-Zimbabwean herself, so it remains to see what direction the sound will go.

Other collaborations which have been connected to the EP include Trey Songz, and Young Thug. These two stars were reported to have their features originally housed on the shelved forthcoming album, but they might just be thrown in. No confirmation yet though.
Sony Music will be handling publishing and distribution of every work by the singer. It will be handled by Sony/ATV Music Publishing, a music publishing company, presently co-owned by Sony Music Entertainment and the estate of Michael Jackson.

In the US, the singer’s releases will be handled by RCA Records, a subsidiary of Sony Music. RCA Records is an American flagship recording label (alongside Columbia Records and Epic Records) of Sony Music Entertainment (SME).

The singer was recently interviewed by Ebro Darden on the Beats 1 by Apple Radio.
