Literature / Where Do Music Melodies Come From ??? by macquis(m): 2:29pm On Jul 14, 2016
There’s been a whole lot of theories tackling the mysterious origin of music melodies, that is, where music melodies come from and how they get impressed on the mind of the musician/composer.

I had an experience as to this regard and am moved to share my experience with the world. I wont make lousy claims that my experience delivers a final blow to the question. Afterall music is multifaceted, revealing itself to its mediums in different ways. Every individual endowed with its gift professess to have had experiences unique to their being and dissimilar to that of other musicians.

At about 4:20am the serenity of my room is compromised as my phone rings out, I’m stired up from my sweet slumber. I had been in dream-state, unaware of my material self and surrounding, for my sense organs had taken a break. But while my material existence was temporarily shut down, my immaterial self from its slumber was aroused like the animalistic part of the human brain on a full moon night.

Once again my soul as done every night had sailed to the real world as Plato would call it, where ideas exist abstractly, awaiting a 22 to help give these ethereal ideas a material composition.

Time went by.

As my soul was about exiting the borders of noumena in a bid to return to its shell following the unpleasant disruption of its other half’s rest, something mystical wins my attention over. I heard a tune being played. There I stood utterly transfixed with shock and delight, quietly regarding how beautifully woven the melody before me was.

The impression this musical encounter had on my psyche was so fierce that even after my departure from dream-state to the realm of material consciousness I still could perceive the said melody reverberating through the walls of my mind.

For fear of losing this precious piece, rather than returning to sleep I reach out for my smartphone. After which I straight-away launch the voice recording app already installed in the phone. Singing out the tune as best as i could recollect. There and then I record the melody I had earlier encountered and received in dream-state, thinking that when the morning fully matured I would unfailingly weave lyrics good enough to give soul to this mysterious melody.

Celebrities / A Music Review On Drake's One Dance Remix Featuring Justin Bieber by macquis(m): 9:11pm On Jun 17, 2016
One Dance a song by Canadian artist Drake from his 2016 album ‘VIEWS ‘ has been making waves in the music industry world wide. Belonging to the dance-hall genre
Dance is one song that’s sure to get you bouncing your head if not moving your entire body to the song’s rythm. The song features guest vocals from British singer Kyla and Nigerian Afro-beat superstar Wizkid. One Dance was produced by Nineteen 85, Dj Mephosa, 40, Wizkid and Sarz. The 5th of April 2016 saw the release of this great jam.

One Dance is written in the key of B flat minor and has a tempo of 98 beats per minute in common time.

Following the release of the original song, a remix version featuring fellow Canadian artist Justin Bieber was released on the 4th of June, 2016. A better version of the already made hit.
Bieber who is a far better singer than Drake employs his light, smoky and warm voice texture to the opening verse of the song, bringing a new feel to the song and making it more appealing. His flow on the almost African beat is also rated 5star.

Lips have been moving as to why Nigerian artist Wizkid was assigned a passive role in the song, a role where he only echoes Chirp melts ‘Back up ‘ into the rythm of the song. Nigerians are of the view that Wizkid should have been given a more active role in the original song as Bieber in the remix of the song

But will Wizkid have performed any better than Bieber on the song if given an entire verse ?
That’s left for you to answer.

Celebrities / The Turbulent Relationship Lives Of Celebrities by macquis(m): 9:01pm On Jun 17, 2016
It is no news that music Superstars Dj Calvin Harris and Taylor Swift are no longer dating. To the amazement of fans, following their breakup Harris and Swift moved on with their lives with immediate effect as though nothing important happened, Harris continued touring and Swift embraced other pleasures. Though their relationship is stated to have spanned for 15 months, there was no sign of emotional break-down from any of the former lovers subsequent to their split as should have been the case. It is also ironical that the Dj and Popstar ended their relationship shortly after celebrating their first anniversary with a romantic tropical getaway.

The problem is, just two weeks after breaking up with Harris, Swift was recently spotted kissing her new found lover Tom Hiddleston on the beach in Rhode Island.

Harris and Swift are not the first celebrities who have tried to settle down in a relationship, the list of celebrities who have attempted settling down is inexhaustible. There’s the case of Rihanna and her string of past lovers, same for Katy Perry, John Mayer, etc. There has even recently been speculations of a budding crises in the love-life of music power couples Jay z and Beyoncé.

The question is, why can’t most celebrities settle down in a relationship ?

The answer might be that most of these celebrities are just selfish and uncaring about the feelings of their partners thus causing them to lead unfaithful lives. Or it could also be that these celebrities just enjoy exploring new sexual territories, and don’t fancy remaining in a particular sexual territory for too long.

Literature / The Average Nigerian's Faulty Conception Of Music (blog Post) by macquis(m): 8:54pm On Jun 17, 2016
After absorbing myself in Jon Bellion’s recent Album: The Human Condition, I felt I had achieved a heightened state of music consciousness. In my liberality I considered sharing one of the most impressive songs from the album with a Childhood friend of mine. One minute after playing the song from his phone I notice a frown on his face, a sure sign of discontent. He takes off his ear-phones slowly, turns to me and says “this song no sweet jare, e wohn make me sleep”. He immediately deletes the song from his phone.

In other words if a song lacks an African fast-tempo beat or fails to fall within the category of Dance-hall, then such a song isn’t worth listening to in Nigeria. A very faulty conception of music.

After carrying out an intensive study on the Nigerian music industry and songs that have topped the music chart in the last 10 yrs, I discovered that Dance-hall songs topped the list. All those Nigerian music artists who have expressed themselves through music genres other than Dance-hall have vanished into thin air.

Trying to solve the puzzle as to why 99 percent of Nigerians today fancied Dance-hall songs over other music genres led me to an article that explained the typical African’s music root and fascination with drums. It further explained how the sacred love of drums and use of the instrument in Africa by our ancestors is unprecedented by any other continent in the world. It is therefore logical to conclude that if our ancestors held the beats of drums sacred, and loved to dance to the beat of drums, then we of this generation being their offspring would act no different, for we bear their genes and their blood runs through our veins. This perfectly explains why the average Nigerian’s love for music strictly leans towards the Dance-hall genre and why Dance-hall artists are the only ones getting all the recognition, fame, accolades, and ambassadorship.

I guess the typical African cannot be seperated from his drums as a result of his roots but there needs to be a paradigmn shift in our conception of music. Music genres other than Dance-hall have to be accepted, promoted and given adequate recognition in Nigeria if our Music industry is ever going to reach the state of perfection and not one-sidedness.

Music/Radio / WIZKID TINIE TEMPAH COLLABORATION: WIZKID DELIVERS PROPERLY by macquis(m): 8:16pm On Jun 16, 2016
British act Tinie tempah who has a Chart record of six UK number ones, the most by any rap artist. Who also is the recipient of two Brit Awards an Award similar to the Grammy Awards in the US has a Nigerian decent and even a Nigerian name. I mean, I never knew he was Nigerian until recently. He’s of the Igbo tribe and his names are
Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu. It’s amazing to see an act like Tempah who regardless of fame and international prominence still reflecting his roots. Whether he speaks igbo or not he atleast still reps Nigeria with those native names.lol

Back to basics, recently Tempah had Wizkid featured on an international flavoured song titled Mamacita. The song has Tempah and Wizkid flowing on a Salsa and Hip-hop fused instrumental. The song as it’s title denotes is about a pretty girl who the singer tries to woo by praising her looks and promises her the world if she accepts his hands.

Like I penned in my previous post Wizkid has been making ground-breaking International headlines recently. Months ago it was Drake featuring him as a guest artist on his international hit One Dance , now it’s another international act Tinie Tempah having Wizkid take his chorus and hook. And Contrary to skeptics as myself who doubted Wizkid’s artistry, the Nigerian Afro-beat star delivered awesomely on that song.

Maybe Drake should not have underestimated Wizkid, he too should have given Wizkid a chance to properly prove himself on that smash hit of his, One Dance .

Music/Radio / Drake’s ‘one Dance’ No. 1 On Hot 100 For Fifth Week by macquis(m): 7:18am On Jun 14, 2016
OVO boss Drake seems to be making headlines with his recent album “Views”. Thanks to the album’s hit single ‘One Dance’. The hit track ‘One Dance’ has Drizzy featuring Kyla and Nigeria’s Afro-pop star Wizkid.
Drake tops the Billboard Hot 100 for a fifth nonconsecutive week with “One Dance,” featuring WizKid and Kyla. Thus making Drake’s song ‘One Dance’ the hottest song in the world presently.
As ‘One Dance’ released on Young Money/Cash Money/Republic Records, leads the Hot 100 for a fifth week (and fourth in a row), it earns an eighth week atop the subscription services-based On-Demand Songs streaming chart with 22.5 million on-demand U.S. plays (down 10 percent) in the week ending June 9, according to Nielsen Music. It stays at No. 2 on the overall Streaming Songs chart, after leading the list five weeks ago, with 25.1 million U.S. streams (down 10 percent).
