Celebrities are set on the stage as a public figures tended to be followed by people. A celebrity's dress sense - his way of life is been emulated by his/her followers. The Goddess of the land is placed side by side with a celebrity. The ways of life of a celebrity are highly different from a commoner. We believe celebs are the centre stage of society.
Everybody in society figuratively points at celebrities as role models. Not all the members of the public are celebrities but few who has made it to the top. The likes of Mercy Johnson, Banky W, Wizkid and all the likes. People of the celebrity calibre are meant to organise the society. A society filled with so many social vices should be traced to a celeb in the nation.
90 per cent of the people love to emulate the dress sense of a celebrity, their walking style, their talking style and some other important aspects of their life. Instead of celebrities living a life worthy of emulation, they tend to focus on making lots of money thereby piling unnecessary social media posts. The majority of the celebrities are seen posting half-naked pictures of themselves just to attract views from their fans. A Nigerian newspaper "The Whistler pops a survey on eight half-naked celebrity dressers. It was revealed in 2018 by The Whistler that Cossy ojiokor, Lilian Afegbai, Daniella Okeke, Toke Makinwa, and many others was found in one way or the other dressing half-naked. The majority is said to use this to please their fans.
The role of a celebrity is not to please their fans but to live a life worthy of emulation. Even if a celebrity should please his/her fan it shouldn't be in a way that will distort the public. Male celebrities' dress sense has made youths dress in a way that doesn't fit the moral standard of society. Tinted hair with big tattoos on any part of the body joined with an oversized shirt and big neck chain is seen as the common dress among the youths in society. Affected youths tend to emulate their artist either a singer, footballer, an actress e.t.c. Society tagged the youth with such dress sense as thugs as they can't dress like that in offices or important places.
Officially, the celebs are seen with so many vices, especially the female celebs. Recently, the sex tape of Tiwa Savage a singer went viral on social media. I believed she made the ruse to gain more followers on social media. Her act was praised by most of her fans. Go online especially on TikTok and Instagram to see the trending act of ladies on the social media space.
This article is not meant to criticise anyone for dressing as he/she likes cause we have the freedom of personal liberty. Even with the freedom given, dress sense shouldn't be outrageous but on a moderate level.
The role which celebrities play in our society is vital as such they should tend their action toward a change. A celebrity is meant to adorn himself or herself beautifully to appeal to the public not to instigate sexual arousal. A view on female teenagers dressing half-naked is a peek at the celebrity they follow. Everyone aspires for popularity and fame and some people will stop at nothing to get that. What seems to steer the social media is an illicit dress sense that celebrities have made viral. Nowadays, everyone wants to be a celeb and they dress half-naked to get that. Look at the BB Naija star Angel who stormed the social media with a dress sense that steered the public which made her gain more followers. The followers gained of which the majority will be youths set her as a role model. A question stags on my mind 'What do you expect people to emulate from angel", is it her dress sense? attitude? Or manner of approach to her getting the fame she wants.
The youth lifestyle is getting hampered day by day due to the influence of celebrities. Check out the dress sense of the president wife in Nigeria, and see how modest and beautiful their dress looks. Beautiful dresses, attitudes and the way of life of influential people go a long way in teaching youths what to do.
All individuals want to make money as quick as possible because there was steer tension right from celebrities who flaunts their lifestyle extravagantly on social media. The guardian newspaper poses a survey of Nigerian celebrities who lavished millions in a night. Celebrities have become the God of many thereby dictating how they live their life. Detrimental effects of youths living like celebrities as turned the country upside down. We believe no one is perfect but as such, we should live a life worthy of emulation. Celebrities have a role to play in the total failure of the country.
