UltraSolid: 100% correct. Glad we still have people from Nigeria who can see the big picture and not only self-hater who automatically and blindly applaud whatever negative others say about Nigeria without understanding our nation and people are being used for the personal ambitions and parochial agendas of others.
Britain is my second nation and I have had her passport from birth though I now live and work In Nigeria Very happily. The UK is so tough now that all my friends, associates and family there are complaining.
Yet the likes of Kemi think throwing their nation of origin under the bus, and attacking immigrants everyday, can somehow make the real problem of the UK dissappear which is a dearth of new income opportunities and new wealth creation avenues in the system that can sustain appreciable economic growth and increase GDP plus per capita income.
Every budget year, for as far back as I can remember, all the UK Chancellor does is Rob Peter to pay Paul. I.e take 2 pence away from a group of tax payers to then use claiming tax reduction for the "most burdened".
Yet Nigeria has so much unexploited wealth and opportunities, from her human and mineral resources to virtually brand new sectors like tourism, that remains condemnably underdeveloped. Meaning if we get it right then we can live better than Arabs even.
This is why I am angry it is our Vice President who penned a response to the antics of Kemi instead of Shetimma viewing her insult against us as a challenge for Nigerian leaders to be up and doing to gain our nation her place and respect in the comity of nations.
Is the UK even 5% as endowed as Nigeria in terms of potential human and material resources plus stupendous endowment of superb weather all year round and land with magnificent valleys, mountains, Waterfalls etc that are tourist-attracting creations of nature?
The likes of a Shetimma should get to work so in 10 to 20 years time it will be Britons of African and even Caucasian origin scrambling to move to Nigeria. It is possible if we start politics of progress and merit today. Instead insecurity has rendered the North a no go area yet Shetimma has time to lambast Kemi Badenoch.
It is the failings of our leaders that makes unexposed ignoramuses think life is paradise in the West. Below is Robert Kiyosaki, author of the iconic book " Rich dad, Poor dad", and worth over $100 million dollars, complaining about the burden on the younger generation when a normal egg sandwich from Waikiki, a chain restaurant like Tasty fried chicken of Nigeria, cost $14 which is around 25k Naira. Yet I bought same egg sandwich from Shoprite Jakande Lekki for around 700 Naira yesterday
The solution is to choose leaders wisely, instead of getting consumed with self hatred of ourselves, and Nigeria can be a paradise. With a revolution in key sectors of agriculture plus human and material resources development tten Nigeria can be a developed nation in 30 to 40 years time. Morgan Stanley already predict us to be the 6th biggest economy of the world by 20250 above the UK and most European nation because of our untapped wealth of human and material resources.
Their assumption is predicated on on us continuing to do the right things, reforming and moving in an upward trajectory. Leaders like Shetimma should simply get to work, to make our predicted success a reality, and stop joining issues with clout chasers.

Especially tourism, we can make as much as we make from oil, from tourism, our weather is good. A lot of people would love to spend winter by the beach in Lagos state. Kemi is way over her head. She is what we call a useful idiot. If you have lived with these people, you would know their tactics of giving a big post to someone incompetent so that they can control the person 100%. Our agricultural sector too is a gold mine, i was thinking of animal farming or crops....There is so much arable land and no one is cultivating it, all the big men are focused on crude oil. In rural America, eggs are free. A lot of people buy chickens and house them in a coop in their back yards. They buy them at the point of lay and they eat the eggs all year round. I know some people that hunt deer , and fill up their freezer with 2 deers, they eat all year round. So they don't buy meat or egg. I don't know what magic trump will perform but America is in a mess with inflation, the pay checks dont buy anything asides rent and groceries. Thats why i think, the first thing Trump will do is end all those useless wars, middle east and Ukraine and focus on America.Although i strongly think he will take out Iran either by force or with severe sanctions. Our problem in Nigeria is even if the old men and the wealthy plutocrats want to hold on to power, they should look for younger dynamic people with fresh ideas, that will awaken the Giant in Nigeria. We have the best afrobeat musicians in the world. We should be doing the biggest shows in December, but guess what ? Ghana beat us to it. I agree with you, there are a lot of opportunities in Nigeria. Do you know that with all the bread we eat in Nigeria all the wheat is imported. And we have land to grow wheat. Nigeria spends 1.5 billion dollars annually on wheat importation. These wheat can be grown in Kano, in the challawa basin, jigawa, katsina, borno (near lake chad). All these places can grow these wheat in each of the states, we can grow so much, we can turn to exporters of wheat. But the government lacks foresight. Everybody wants crude oil money. And this is just what we know about, under the ground we have so much mineral that are yet to be tapped, most of our oil wells were explored 30- 40 years ago, we don't have active mining and exploration. We might even be sitting on oil more than Saudi Arabia, but our government is so disjointed and unorganized. Kiyosaki is right, unfortunately the wealth gap in America is ridiculous. I think they want to keep the citizens poor so that they can work them hard. |

Edygrin: When the CBN was selling dollar to Dangote at NGN200 per $1 and other businesses were forced to buy at NGN800, we didn't see Dangote complaining, when the previous government and some northern elite fought with BUA not to reduce cement price so that Dangote can keep selling at outrageous prices, Dangote didn't complain. Just a year after the same man he supported came to power and checked his monopoly he's all over the news and social media complaining.
When he paid the Lagos state government $100m for the refinery land, he didn't inform the public that he bought it for that price, they were even fighting with the land owners to pay a meager sum of $4m. Now they've fallen out he's now looking for sympathy.
Dangote is no different from these politicians. I wont be surprised if he was planning to get cheaper crude or even free crude by cozying up with the current administration. He has gone abroad to buy crude oil and they have charged him real dollars, not CBN subsidized, he has paid shipping fees to international oil tankers. After seeing all the money he paid. He has comeback to his senses and is trying to garner public sympathy so that they give him access to Nigerian crude !! |

gare: He is not asking for free crude, he is asking for the same price sold in the international market, the IOC are asking for $5 extra, Nigerians should rally round him to ensure he gets the crude at the same price sold in the open market, because if he has to import and get crude which he is presently doing would increase the price of PMS and other products. He is not crying but Nigeria is only showing to the world that business can't be done well in Nigeria if we can't treat our own like this He is asking for an advantage, which sounds a little entitled. If he buys crude in USA or Brazil he has to pay tankers shipping fees to Nigeria, He has to import charges at the port authority, he has to pay taxes to the government. So a little $5 Extra is still a good deal if sourced locally.
If i buy a goat in katsina for 30k naira and ship it to lagos to sell it. If i meet someone in Lagos raising goats. If he tells you to pay 35k naira to buy the goats in Lagos. You cant be complaining that you buy it in Katsina for 30k naira......He has to add something, its business. If you do not want to buy, travel all the way to katsina by yourself to purchase it yourself. |

If they do it like that, the money launderers will bring out money from under their beds and just pay. Monies that no one knows the origin.
Better still, they should allow every civil servant to be able to buy with 10-20% of their yearly salary. That way everyone has equity in it. Dangote can still keep the controlling stake, i am not advocating depriving him of his sweat and hardwork. People from the ALL geopolitical zones can purchase with earned income. Money has to be from salary !! Not money without source.
This will give Nigerians a sense of ownership. Its really not fair for 1-3 people to own everything in a country of 300 million. They are not businessmen they are just Monopolist Oligarchs. |

It's like been a chicken farmer and asking your wife to bid for the chicken you will eat at home along side you other customers....and who told you Dangote is the only refinery we have in Nigeria? There are others of varying degrees from 45k bpd to 100k or more.....Dangote would only help increase supply.....and he can make other products the other refineries we have cant..... Dont be fooled, Dangote is in for himself only. By your analogy we should be enjoying the best cement prices in Africa......No There are other African countries where Dangote cement is cheaper than Nigeria !! Although all the limestone and land and import waivers and tax concessions are given to him free in Nigeria. We are not about to start that in the Oil and Gas Sector. |

No hate here my friend, not an iota. If we sell crude to open market, we get money to pay all the salaries and execute projects in Nigeria. If we sell to Dangote directly without checks and balances. We are going to be using that One refinery to finance Nigeria's economy all controlled by one man. Thats a huge security risk in any country in the world. Let him buy crude in the open market, we are not giving him access to Nigerian crude. That Nigerian crude belongs to 300 million Nigerians. He can source his crude and if he comes to the market with good price diesel and petrol, we will buy from him. If not he is free to sell to the highest bidder. As a country of 300 million one man cannot be taking limestone to make cement and now wants access to crude oil easy peezy. |
Politics › Re: Dangote’s Empire: Looming Oil Mafia Showdown! by MaiDeribe: 6:28am On Jul 22, 2024 |
SmartPolician: Dangote plans to start an IPO for the refinery so he can raise more funds, but I don't know the percentage he is willing to part with. I guess that's what you mean by Nigerians owning 50%. yes However, he shouldn't sell that refinery to the Nigerian government because NNPC will run it down like they always do.
Tinubu and co don't even understand what's at stake at this time. Dangote borrowed billions of dollars from several banks from CBN dollars through Emefiele to set up that refinery. Your money and my money were used to build that refinery. If that project fails, our economy is in trouble because banks will go down. If banks start running out of business, we are in trouble. So, that project must be protected at all costs. Nothing stops him from running his business completley independent of Nigerian governement. Indonesia has an economy dependent on its refinery, 100% crude is imported and diesel and PMS is exported.
To get that refinery enough products, Tinubu has to encourage local oil companies like Seplat that are willing to invest in E&P to do so. Support them to produce crude oil; he can help them to source loans from international lending institutions like the World Bank. That's the only way we can meet our OPEC quota, sell enough products to international buyers get USD and to refund AfreximBank loan and supply to Dangote and other modular refineries. If Dangote is the real business man that he claims, why cant he go to seplat and the other E&P companies to negotiate by himself. Why does Tinubu needs to get involved. Thats what everyone is saying he is using governement leverage to profit himself and pretending to be an independent business man.
Yes, the upstream industry is soo capital intensive that only foreign companies are running it in Nigeria and they are divesting now while others are leaving Nigeria because of their bad experiences in the Niger Delta region (insecurity and oil theft). No organisation can operate in a place where they feel insecure and their products are being stolen. Why they could not easily up and leave was that they are institutional investors, but they are doing that now. That's why we don't even meet our OPEC quota....very embarrassing. If they combine the black market crude and the official volume reported, we definitely exceed the OPEC quota. Thats why everyone wants full transparency in the crude oil exportation.
TBVH, Nigeria is in a big mess. When we tell people that leadership is hard and that you need to bring bright minds to run this country, they think we are joking. I like your open mindedness, but our need for investors should not allow us be taken advantage of. |
