Political Realignment without Inuwa Waya, others futile — group tells Kano APC. By Abdullahi Mohammed The APC Northwest Alliance for Good Governance has called on the leadership of the party, in Kano, to have a broader and inclusive consultation, amid the ongoing political realignments. The group stated this yesterday, in Kano, during a stakeholders meeting. The coordinator of the group Ambassador Aliyu Ahmad, said, " politics is about recognizing efforts of individuals, before, during and after any political contestations. Prior to the last elections, several individual had contributed to the success of the APC. Take for instance, Mallam.Inuwa Waya. He even jettisoned his personal ambition in ensuring peace within the party and even supported then Candidates Asiwaju Tinubu, Gawuna and Garo. It is however disheartening to neglect or bypass such individuals, who has committed personal resources in keeping the party formidable". Earlier in his remarks, the secretary of the forum and Kano State coordinator, Alhaji Munzali Khamsusi, reiterated the importance of carrying everyone along, in the process of strengthening the party. He said, "The likes of Mal Inuwa Waya, AA Zaura, Engr. Bashir and others sacrificed their time, energy and resources to make the party succeed. Regardless the outcome, they must be recognized, and treated with respect, because they've proven to be committed and dedicated party men. Our party must unite all dissenting voices and especially at this point of party realignments". Several speakers at the event spoke on the need for a symbolic rewards systems and an elaborate feedback mechanism and recognition of genuine party men. For Mallam Musa Mandawari, a chieftain of the party in Kano Municipal, he said, " If you take the singular gesture if Mallam Inuwa Waya, how he has helped thousands of party and non- party faithfuls, across the state, you'll agree, he's a colossus which must be kept. Now the opposition is building a coalition, we must be careful not to lose influential individuals like Mallam Waya to the opposition". The group call on party members to remain resolute in supporting the government of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to fastrack his Renewed Hope Agenda.

CNG conversion: Group commends FG, Rolling Energy The Coalition of Arewa Civil Society Groups has lauded Rolling Energy for its resilience and determination in championing the CNG conversion and refuelling efforts across northern Nigeria, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This was stated as the body debunked negative impressions and “the other false and misconstrued narrative on the safety issue,” adding that “From what we observed, CNG is actually safe and non-hazardous.” The statement was made in Kano during the public enlightenment and sensitisation drive on the significance of CNG as an alternative source of clean, affordable, and safe energy. The event brought together leadership from the Transportation Forum, including NARTO, NURTW, ACOMORAN, Water Tanker Union, Tashi Ka Nemi Naka, and others. While speaking at the occasion, the Secretary of the Coalition of Arewa Civil Society Groups, Comrade Auwal Shuaibu, commended the Tinubu administration for initiating the CNG policy, which seeks, among other things, to alleviate the economic and social strain arising from subsidy removal. He said, “The moment subsidy was removed, the president knew the shock would be severe, so he set in motion an alternative stopgap, which is CNG. Licences were given to different private firms to partner with the federal government in order to speedily make CNG available across the country.” He then stated, “In our region, however, we understand a private firm, Rolling Energy, is the one handling the project across northern Nigeria.” “So far, in order to be sure we’re not shortchanged, we beamed our searchlight on Rolling Energy, and thankfully, we are happy to state that they are unrelentingly pursuing the CNG conversion and refuelling across the region, in states like Kaduna, Kwara, Abuja, Nasarawa, and Maiduguri.” He emphasised that “the claim that CNG is not available in northern Nigeria is a misrepresentation of facts. The slow response to the initiative, especially from our businessmen, was a major factor, which gave the south an edge.” “As usual, southern Nigeria embraced the initiative at its formative stages. So, we’re calling on those in the oil and gas sector from northern Nigeria, and filling station owners, to partner with Rolling Energy by making their filling stations available as conversion and refuelling centres, in order to leverage the CNG initiative of the federal government.” In his speech, the Coordinator and Chairman of the Coalition, Mal Abdullahi Mohammed, stated that the narrative that CNG is not available in northern Nigeria is a misnomer and a deliberate misinformation aimed at politicising the exercise. He said, “Based on our findings, eight indigenous companies partnered with the federal government. Among them is Rolling Energy, and we have to commend the speed at which the company is spreading its tentacles across the region, starting from Kaduna, where it has three conversion and refuelling stations, Kwara, Nasarawa, Maiduguri, with Kano coming on stream soon.” He added that “the other false and misconstrued narrative is the safety issue. From what we observed, CNG is actually safe and non-hazardous.” He urged members of the Transportation Forum to go back, sensitise, and engage their members to embrace this innovation, which can make life seamless for all. “CNG is the game changer as far as transportation is concerned.” Adding that “As a region, we must take full advantage. The Tinubu administration, we understand, targets one million Nigerians to benefit from free conversion; therefore, we must act fast.” In his remarks, a representative of Rolling Energy assured members of the Transport Forum of the availability of CNG centres across the country in no distant time. He said, “As professionals, we are guided by the highest standards of service delivery. We are working tirelessly to ensure smooth operations across the region and the entire country.” In his goodwill message, Alhaji Aminu Almustapha, Chairman of the Transportation Forum, thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the management and staff of Rolling Energy for their efforts in ensuring the availability of CNG through its various conversion and refuelling stations across the region. Disregard preemptive utterances by Southern Solidarity Forum, regarding the trial of ex AGF Idris— Arewa Professionals Forum urges. Arewa Professionals Forum, is a sociocultural association of like-minds , working to promote and protect the interest of northern Nigeria— it's people, values and sanctity.pp Our attention has been drawn to a publication, going round on some media platforms, titled, "Don't let ex AGF Idris off the hook group urges EFCC". The publication or press release, is credited to a group, Southern Solidarity Forum, in South-west state of Osun. And individuals who made statements according to the report, were one Otunba Olagoke Fabiyi, and Ms Bisola Adeyemi. As a group with character and sound moral judgement, Arewa Professionals Forum deem it necessary to make public, this rejoinder. 1. The former AGF, Mallam Ahmed Idris, has served this country meritoriously, regardless of the many lies and half-truths peddled against him by particularly, some section of the press. This is nothing less than a media trial, exacerbated by fake news, which we have reasons to believe is the handiwork of his detractors, whose identity we all we know. 2. It is worthy to note, the Nigerian constitution guarantees the innocence of any accused persons, until he was proven guilty, through the provision of incontrovertible evidence in court. 3. The assertions by Southern Solidarity Forum, through one Otunba Olagoke Fabiyi, that, Mallam Ahmed Idris, was trying to "clever by half" in order to deceive the EFCC, because, Mallam told the court, that he was deceived into making the statement by the EFCC. Mr Fabiyi must understand that, The Evidence Act, 2023, as amended, provides for the nullification of evidence earlier given, by a suspect, when there's a clause— taken under duress, deception, intimidation and manipulations. Therefore, the use of words like "childish" by Mr Fabiyi, buttress just one significant point, he just exhibited a trait akin to what he says. 4. The EFCC, is a national anti-gratf agency, established by laws of the country. It is an agency for all Nigerians. Mr Fabiyi sounded clannish, when he portrayed the EFCC under the current Chairman as doing the bidding of the president. We are not averse to fight against corruption. We are rather calling for justice and fair trial of Mallam Ahmed Idris, without the attendant barrage of attacks from some faceless individuals using Organizations and press. 5. Another speaker at the Osogbo event, Ms Bisola Adeyemi, claimed without any evidence that, Mallam Ahmed Idris, had business interest and benefited from IPPIS. This callous lies shows how desperate, and unrelenting the these elements are in trying to nail Mallam at all cost. IPPIS, has been in place long before Mallam became AGF. It was a federal government independent agency. She sounded preemptive, when she proclaim that Mallam Ahmed Idris, ought to be in jail. Really? In jail for which crime? 6. For the avoidance of doubt, and contrary to the last assertions, Mallam Ahmed Idris, is a builder of future not destroyer. He provided thousands of youths with scholarships, secured jobs, paid tuition fees and provided employment to many more. This singular act alone, endeared him to masses. He has no hand in the prolonged ASUU strike. In fact, it was through his efforts and resilience, the universities didn't collapse. He was neither the Minister of finance, nor education. 7. We have seen individual, caught red-handed in the act of theft by the EFCC. Some had their houses ransacked and cash running into billions found. On the contrary, Mallam Ahmed Idris, has not been found with cash in any apartment linked to him. He has been a victim of political witch hunt, involving known individuals. 8. On the case of the 109billion, on which he is standing trial, alongside three others, Southern Solidarity Forum, should avail themselves with facts on the case. The entire budget and assets of the office of the AGF, is not upto 10billion. The amount mentioned, here, is linked to a consultancy services, for an original payment of cumulative monies owed the south south states over the years. The process was transparent. However, the fall out was more political. 9. We reiterate our confidence in the judiciary. The EFCC, must be allowed to do their job. It is a federal agency. We find the call by Southern Solidarity Forum, is to say the least, very preemptive. It showed their is an ulterior considerations. 10. We have the moral obligation to frown at individuals or group subjecting one of our own to ridicule and media trails. We would continue follow diligently and with keen interest, court proceedings regarding the case involving Mallam Ahmed Idris. We have the obligation to respond to Southern Solidarity Forum, and even any group, throwing tantrums and passing judgement and aspersions, without any evidence on one of us. We implore all to be steadfast in prayers for justice for Mallam Ahmed Idris. Sign Comrade Auwal Muhammad Secretary-General Arewa Professionals Forum

Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I Jibrin, Behind APC- Kano, loss at Supreme Court— Support Group. A coalition of pro democracy and good governance support group, APC Kano Renewal Mandate, has accused the Deputy president of the Senate, Barau I Jibrin as having a hand in the recent supreme court judgement that affirmed NNPP's Abba Kabir Yusuf as governor of Kano state. Speaking to newsmen during a press conference in Kano, Wednesday, the convener of the coalition, Hon. Ya'u Abubakar Ilu, said " the battle of supremacy, and the control of the soul of the APC in Kano has subtly been going on for sometime. DSP Barau has his sight firmly on the 2027 governorship ticket. He sees the victory of HE Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, and the APC as a threat to his 2027 ambition". He continued, " he Senator Barau, has not hidden his ambition and disdain for the leadership of Kano APC, and even the the national Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. His antagonism is traced to the days of the G-7, where Barau wanted to secure the APC governorship ticket by all means, but was unable to achieve that. Since then, he has been using his position and network in Abuja,in cahoot with the opposition, and some interest to truncate the chances of the APC". In the same vein, the Secretary General, of the Coalition, Comrade Barrister Nafiu Mustapha , faulted the desperation of Sen Barau I Jibrin, to the point of backstabbing his party. He said " Sen Barau is a desperate, selfish and crafty individual whose interest always comes first in any political situation. Because of his desperation, he betrayed his benefactor, Dr Ganduje, the Kano APC and other stakeholders in the state. Few days before the ruling, Sen Barau was running from pillar to post, getting everyone that matters, within the presidency and judiciary to get a favourable judgement for the NNPP. What he has done is akin to highest political betrayal". In a final communique, the group has resolved to make public, all the under the table schemings, the antics. The statement further says, " we shall in the coming days make public all the intrigues and deal reached by Sen Barau, with his political gang that betrayed and robbed the Kano APC of victory. On a final note, the group has resolved to further make the deputy senate president an outcast in Kano APC, which will deny him any further chance of winning any elections,on the party's platform.

An Open Letter to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,GCFR, on the need to reverse and withdraw the appointment of Muhammad Abu Ibrahim, as CEO/ES of NADF[l. Sir, we send to you our most respectful greetings, and best of regards in this onerous task of presiding a complex country such as Nigeria. 1. Recall, only last week, youe made some fresh appointments into some key positions in the country,in line with your Renewed Hope Agenda. 2. Among the appointments you made, the one which struck us as an insensitive one, that seeks to rub us on the face is the appointment of the son of Senator Abu Ibrahim, Muhammad Abu Ibrahim, as CEO and Executive Secretary National Agricultural Development Fund NADF. 3. Sir, politics is not a family business, dynasty, or any kind of monarchy. We understand the cordiality, due to friendship that you share with his father, Sen Abu Ibrahim. But there are more ways to compensate him politically than picking his son over we, the toiling card carrying APC members who worked tirelessly for the party to ensure your well deserved victory. 4. It is on record, Sen Abu Ibrahim, is a persona non grata in his native Katsina. He doesn't have electoral value. His constituents, Funtua is a no go area for him, simply because of his lack of empathy and commitment to better the lot of his constituents by providing democratic dividends. 5. Even the appointment of Muhammad Abu Ibrahim as CEO of NADF, contravene the Act establishing the fund, because, it clearly and unambiguously stated the qualifications expected of the CEO, which he clearly lacked. His expertise is in accounting, while the role stipulates that, the CEO must have cognate experience in Agricultural finance and development. 6. The current CEO, Dr Garzali Mohammed Abubakar, who was appointed just last May, has within such short period of time doing a tremendous job, in positioning the fund for greater efficiency in line with his mandate. Remember sir, there's a golden rule in every game: Don't clChange a Winning Team, in the Middle of a Match or Contest. 7. As you may be aware, our sister organization, an other APC support groups had planned to stage a protest over non-inclusivity in the government. There are thousands of eligible and qualified youths with requisite experience whom had worked for your success, that you can pick from. Why settle for the son of your friend, against the sons of those who sincerely worked for you? 8. Sir, graduating from schools in America, UK, Netherland, Canada, etc is not a sign of intelligence. Because a father could afford to have his children trained in such schools is a privilege. As such, our local schools should not be disparaged, our graduates from local institutions are not dumb. 9. We must commend the zeal within which you populate your administration with a sizeable number of youths, but you must not allow spent men, whose children merely schooled abroad, as a qualifications to rub it off our faces. These men will only get their children into power,to continue to hold on to power by proxy which we have seen in the case of Muhammad Abu Ibrahim. 10. Lastly Sir, we know you are a listening President. Listen to our cries, our concerns and our demands. We shall continue to use all legal means to get your attention to reverse and withdraw the appointment of Muhammad Abu Ibrahim, because it was done in error, and, complete disregard to rule of law, equity and justice. Thank you. Comrade Salisu Maiwada Salisu National Coordinator, APC NORTHWEST Advocacy for Good Governance Imran Abbas Zailani Secretary/PRO APC NORTHWEST ADVOCACY FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE |
Don't set Kano on fire.--- Group A Kano based good governance group, Kano Concerned Citizens, has called on the ruling NNPP in the state to desist from subtly making inflammatory statement capable of truncating the peace and security of lives and properties of Kano people. In a press conference yesterday in Kano, the group recalled the inciting statement made by some chieftain of the party, which includes, the SSG, Commissioner of Land, and the governor's adviser on youth and sports, was a marked recklessness, which shows the NNPP is devoid of empathy, finesse and tact in the art of governance. Speaking further, the group's convener, Comrade Abdullahi D Mohammed noted that, ' Kano State is bigger than any individual, or group of person. Calling for anarchy and outright violence on the state, the judiciary (judges) and the person of the vice president is as show of ineptitude to the concept of democracy and rule of law. As such, they should not intimidate or hold anyone to ransom on the account of whatever the Tribunal rules. The group's Secretary Comrade Muhammad Auwal Shuaibu said, " it is against the norm, character and culture of Kano people to ridicule elders, such as, the baseless attacks on the person of the vice president, HE Kashim Shettima. The call on Kano resident to resist the Tribunal judgement, should it go against their wishes is provocative, childish and barbaric, which runs contrary to Kano's ethos. The group said it has since petitioned relevant security agencies in the country to investigate the individuals involved, to ascertain how far they have gone in their plan to make Kano worst than Zamfara and other States ravaged by insecurity. As the mere sacking of both the Commissioner and Adviser by the Kano state governor is just not enough, the group said. |
Jigawa born philanthropist, doles out palliatives for women, orphans and others..... As the economic situation in the country bites harder, individuals with humanity and empathy continue to roll out independent mechanism to alleviate the severe hardship, which was evidently brought about as a result of subsidy removal. One of such individual,is a Jigawa based philanthropist, Alhaji Ibrahim Yalo. Last week, in his native Yalo town, in Kaugama Local government, he roll out an empowerment, where he targeted vulnerable women, orphans. He gave N20,000 each for 300 Women. The idea was conceived, because, women are known to have the ability to manage resources prudently. A N20,000 in a rural setting is well enough to start and grow a petty business and make beneficiaries independent. Speaking at the event, the executive governor of Jigawa State, Mallam Umar Namadi, who was the special guest, extol the virtue of doing good, as exemplified by Alhaji Ibrahim Yalo. He called on wealthy Nigerians to use their wealthy to help the downtrodden. He said, " this is the first of its kind, in Jigawa, where a patriotic individual would take it upon himself, to take from his God given resources to assist the needy, especially women in this moment of economic regression,we thank Alhaji for this noble gesture". The governor urged other wealthy individuals to emulate Alhaji Ibrahim Yalo. Earlier in his remark, the host Alhaji Ibrahim Yalo, underscores the significance of benevolence, especially in a time of general needs. He then promised to do more, as his empathy knows no bounds. The governor has in his entourage, Commissioner,Ministry local government, Chairmen of Kaugama and Malam-madori respectively. Others include the District Head, Yalo, in Kaugama Local government of the state. NAN |

Hon. Kwanta: Transformational Leadership, at its best! By Abdullahi D Mohammed In the 21st century, there are in abundance, different and diverse mechanism and approaches to leadership. Similarly, in a world where technology, population growth and urbanization are demeaning and persistently undermining human endeavours, there is need, for adopting new approaches to confront such challenges, headlong. One of which, should be through transformational leadership. According to James Macgregor Burns, an American propounder of transformational leadership theory, describes transformational leaders as " those who seek to change existing thoughts, techniques and goals for better results and the greater good, with focus, on the essential needs of the followers". In Nasarawa State, like most states in Nigeria, there are multiple challenges, both physical and social. However, the administration of Engr A A Sule, had since 2015, built a threshold on reshaping the fortunes of the state, through impactful policies and good governance. The governor, despite his zeal, enthusiasm and fervor, would not have succeeded, without a team of new crops of young and vibrant cabinet members. Among the team driving development and promoting good governance in Nasarawa State, is Dr Yakubu Kwanta, the immediate past Commissioner, in the Ministry of Environment. Dr Kwanta, is everything a transformational leader is. He embodies and symbolizes transformational leadership. Because, first, he seeks to change, through actionable and practical engagement the existing thoughts, techniques and goals of the people, while focusing on the benefits of the state, as an institution. A true democrat, grassroot mobilizer and social crusader, Dr Kwanta, as a former council Chairman understood the basics in local and grassroot administration. The single unit, in the three arms of government that has the capacity to build a towering and enduring middle-class, is unarguably the local government. As Chairman, Akwanga local government, in 2016, he set the stage for the development seen in the council today. He executed projects, hardly seen in recent political history of the council. His expansion and construction of roads, especially in rural communities, has a chain reaction and created a valid value chain. It led to increase in productivity especially in agricultural yield and output, because it created easy access to farmlands, healthcare centers across villages in Akwanga. Hard work, resilience and dedication pays, especially when done with sincere and zero ulterior motives. There is reward for loyalty, and there is also reward for competence and expediency. In view of his dexterous and dedicated transformational traits, in 2015, Gov. A A Sule, made him a Special Adviser on Youth and Sport Development. It was in that capacity, Dr Kwanta proved his mettle, in areas of youth empowerment, entrepreneurship and skill acquisition. Youths were trained in different areas of skills and endeavours, to enhance human capital development. Dr Kwanta, understands the root causes of restiveness, drug abuse and other form of criminality, is as result of redundancy and unemployment. It is on record, he empowered over 10,000 youths in different phases, across the state. He equally engage others in sports economy, using particularly football, as a means of livelihood. The determination and passion with which he carried out, and chart a big path for youth inclusiveness in governance, through an elaborate empowerment, did not go unnoticed. His Excellency, the executive governor of Nasarawa State, Engr A A Sule, find him worthy of elevation to continue with the excellent job he has provided the state. He was appointed Commissioner, in the ministry of Environment. The commissionership, was just the template Dr Kwanta needed to expand on his mandate to have his impact felt in the entire state. Because, he considers the state as his constituency. Behold, he did not disappoint. As commissioner, he formulated policies which has positive impact on the environment, especially in key areas like clean and sustainable and healthy Nasarawa State. In areas of solid minerals development, a key component of the state's economy, Dr Kwanta did a marvelous job, by ensuring Gov. A A Sule signs an executive order, to protect mining communities. In the past, illegal mining activities were the hallmark of the Ministry. Dr Kwanta, engaged stakeholders, mining companies to invest in human development as well as securing and protecting the host communities. Similarly, mining licensing was made less cumbersome in order to encourage local participation in the mining industry. As core mobilizer, through youth empowerment and entrepreneurship, Dr Kwanta, had in the build up to the last gubernatorial elections, engaged in ideological discourse across the state, which birth the Kwantamania movement. The movement, was an ideological identity, which cut across different groups, creed, faith and even political leaning. It was a movement powered by the need to build a vibrant and prosperous Nasarawa State, through transformational leadership, with him as the head. Dr Kwanta, together with the Kwantamania Movement, had engaged in momentous door to door campaigns, across remote areas in the state to canvass support for the APC and his Excellency, Gov. A A Sule. Gladly, the effort has not been vainly. It paid off. The hard fought victory, was a manifestation of a commitment to transform the State to an enviable spot, in country. Dr Kwanta is not only a politician, but a development maestro and strategist. A loyal, humble and incorruptible fellow. His respect, loyalty and adoration for his mentor, Engr A A Sule, has never been in doubt. He is unapologetically subservient to Gov A A Sule, whom he learned a lot about transformational leadership. A detribalized individual, who respects people of different faith, Dr Kwanta has no war to fight, enemy to conquer or adversary to subdue. But on the political turf, he is moving train, who will stop at nothing to get his party and principal, Gov A A Sule on the path of victory for the greater good of Nasarawa State. By this, the youths and the good people of Nasarawa would continue to pray, Dr Kwanta return to continue serving the State, and humanity. Abdullahi D Mohammed is with the Department of Political Science and International studies at the Ahmadu Bello University-Zaria. He Writes from Kano.

The vibrant leadership, of the HoR, which can be achieved through the joint ticket of Hon. Abass/ Kalu, will further consolidate the gains made so far, where investors will flock the country. 4. It is just a day to the inauguration of the 10th Assembly, we call on undecided and aggrieved Members-elect, to coalesce and join forces to actualize the Hon. Abass/Kalu ticket, which signifies unity and progress. 5. Time for partisanship is over. The interest of the country should supercede any other factors. Because, the task before the 10th Assembly is huge. A united ticket of Hon. Abass/ Kalu guarantees the new vision and resilience in leadership and nation building. 6. It is a Democracy Day today, we urge all Members-elect, to as democrats, demonstrate in practice the principle of internal cohesion by aligning with the ticket of Hon. Abass/Kalu, to make the process flourish. 7. The House of Representatives, in all Democracies around the world, is a vibrant arm, which mars or makes a country. In recent times, there has been calls to have a single Legislative arm of government, which is the HoR. This is a Vote of Confidence. Members should unite and make the House Leadership more alluring. The Hon. Abass/Kalu is sure path to achieve that. 9. By his nature, Hon. Abass is calm, unassuming and charismatic. He won't be vindictive. As Speaker, he will carry along everyone, regardless of party affiliations. Himself ànd Hon. Ben Kalu are team players. 10. Posterity and history will always be the ultimate judge. Members-elect should see through the goodwill President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu enjoyed so far from Nigerians, and work with him to reposition the country. This can only be achieved with the help and support of a great National Assembly, in which in his wisdom, settled for the people's choice of Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abass and Benjamin Kalu. Press Release 10th NASS, SPEAKERSHIP: A VOTE FOR ABASS/KALU, IS A VOTE FOR UNITY, DEVELOPMENT & PROSPERITY. 15 REASONS WHY THE HON.ABASS KALU/ TICKET REMAINS IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE COUNTRY. As the day for the inauguration of the 10th Assembly draws nearer, the Coalition of APC Northwest Support Group, has step up sensitization, mobilization and engagement, on the need to have a vibrant, committed and independent 10th Assembly. The Coalition of APC Northwest Support Group, is keenly watching over the situation. As a group with equal stake in the development of democratic values, in Nigeria, it is imperative that we make the following pronouncements: 1. The only pathway to the realization of Mr President's Renewed Hope, is through an assertive leadership of the 10th Assembly. The duo of Hon.Abass and Kalu are a definition of refined leadership. 2. While every aspirant has the inalienable right to vie for any position, at this juncture, it would be counterproductive to have a divided and divergent interest. It will be politically expedient to lock horns, and jettison whatever interest other aspirations have, to unite and help produce a vibrant leadership, by supportive and voting the duo of Hon. Abass and Kalu. 3. Rt. Hon Tajudeen Abass, has whatever it takes to be speaker of the 10th National Assembly. Having come from the region which gave the APC the highest number of votes of 2,652,824, it became imperative and justifiable to do so, morally and politically. Hon. Abbas, is a senior ranking Member with the most Bill passed. 4. Hon Benjamin Kalu, candidate for Deputy Speaker, from South-East is a resourceful and vibrant parliamentarian. Having come from the South East, his choice for DS, will address the issue of inclusiveness, marginalization, faith ànd balance of political power. 5. In a representative democracy, citizens bank on their representatives for true democratic dividends, both Hon. Abass and Kalu had demonstrated their parliamentary prowess at different times, both in and out of the chamber. 6. Calmness and strategic, are some unique features of leadership. Hon Abbas, despite his calm disposition, is a wily and calculative parliamentarian, with years of experience as an academic and researcher. 7. The 9th Assembly, according to Senator Ali Ndume, was a rubber stamp pack of yes men. While the independence of the Assembly is critical to the overall development of the country, the president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a known Democract, will engage and work in harmony with Hon Abass and Kalu leadership, seamlessly, in line with democratic principle. 8. Both Hon. Abass and Kalu, as democrats will be engaging, transparent and have an all- inclusive 10th Assembly. The ability to unite, and bring on board different groups and interest will be the hallmark of their leadership, for purpose of stability and progess of the country. 9. The subsidy removal has disrupted livelihoods, a vibrant leadership of the House of Representatives, of the 10th Assembly, under Hon. Abass and Kalu, will definitely chart a path to speedily bring succour and find a solution to alleviate the pains every Reps would want his constituents to enjoy. 10. Hon. Abass and Kalu, won't be a puppet, or run a lackluster 10th Assembly, HoR. The duo are independent minded parliamentarians, whose service will be to the generality of Nigerians, whom they consider their constituents. 11. Due to the diversity of the country, the need for balance and inclusiveness would have been addressed, when the duo of Abass and Kalu take over the mantle of leadership at the 10th Assembly, HoR. 12. In constitutional and representational Democracies the world over, the House of Representatives, has been the most fierce and engaging legislative branch, who always stand up for the common man. The duo of Hon. Abass and Kalu understands the enormity of the tasks ahead. 13. In all political contestations, there are bound to be winners and those who do not have their way. For a fact, both Hon. Abass and Kalu, are not vindictive. We certainly won't have a Win-lose scenario in the 10th HoR. 14. Most Members-elect, in a way, has a covenant with their constituents for a robust lawmaking and representation. To achieve that, there must be a vibrant leadership of the HoR, which every Member has a moral and constitutional mandate to choose the Hon. Abass and Kalu, leadership. 15. Campaigns are over, the Asiwaju led government has hit the ground running. The NASS should not be seen as impediment to the progress, and gains made so far. It is a duty of all members to respect and appreciate the fact, Nigeria's interest is over and above anyone's, and therefore should work to produce a team that will meet the expectations of their constituents, Nigerians and the world at large. And such leadership, without doubt, is the mold of Hon. Tajudeen Abass and Benjamin Kalu. Lastly, posterity and history will judge everyone for choices, actions and inaction. As Members-elect goes to the polls on Tuesday, they should bear in mind, the soul and pulse of the country is in their hands, the trust and burden on their shoulder. A Vote for Hon Abbas Tajudeen and Ben Kalu, is indeed a vote for recalibration and Renewed Nigeria. We all dream of. Signed Com. Auwal Shuaibu Gumel Coordinator Abdullahi Muhammad Secretary |
What I shall Do Differently, in the education sector. (My word is my bond part I) By Alhaji Ibrahim Yahaya Mohammed Sokodede (Talban Samarin Nupe) Assalamu Alaikum. Dear Nigerlites I respectfully bring to you greetings, and best wishes. Henceforth, I shall use this medium to reach out and engage you on some of my realistic and cogent reasons why I want to serve you, as Governor. And, most of these policies I share here, shall form the fulcrum of my manifestos. Public office is a trust, and Trust is a bond, which I shall uphold. I will begin with Education, because, the foundational basis or structure of any society is rooted firmly in education. Similarly, an informed demographics or society is reflective of the kind of country it will birth. Therefore, we shall focus on education, the attendant challenges and how to fix it for the overall benefit of good people of Niger. Education: To underscore the significance of education in our lives, our Prophet, Muhammad SAW admonished us to seek education (knowledge) as far as we could, no matter how daunting the challenges are, and the distance covered to seek it. This underscores the significance and the all important spaces education has, in the live if the citizenry. Dr Nelson Mandela, has this to say; "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world". Education is the bedrock, and foundation upon which society expatiate, and a cradle of all civilizations. Niger, has been historically a center for learning and scholarship for centuries. It has provided the nexus between scholarship and trans-sahara trade, the two fundamental model for development. Historically, many Mangarawa and other Hausa city state scholars visited ancient Nupe Kingdom for scholarship purposes. So rich was our educational heritage, which, sadly has retrogressively declined over years. In order to reintegrate our dear state on the a greater educational pedestal, I shall make primary education compulsory, free and accessible to all regardless of creed, political leaning, faith or status. Currently, in Nigeria, there are about 13 million out-of-school children, making it highest in the world. And of the said figure, northern Nigeria has the highest, while Niger State got a sizeable share. We shall mitigate the trend by doing things differently, which include the following, and not limited to the following. *Provide monthly package for indigent parents who enroll their children in school, that way, the support will bolster and increase school enrollment. *Tweak and repackage the Home-grown school feeding program which, according to statistics was partly responsible for an increase in school enrollment. We can do that through an elaborate funding scheme. * FCE graduates in the state will be given stipends as encouragement to harness and cultivate efficient teaching manpower and professionalism. * Building and equipping schools, and making it accessible to rural communities, while sustaining the existing ones. * In most cases, I shall create and ensure greater synergy between SUBEB, international donor agencies and development partners for greater access and inclusiveness. * Safe School Declaration, SSD, is an international global coalition against attacks on schools during conflict of which Nigeria is signatory to. I shall reinvigorate and make the policy most feasible to encourage more school enrollment. Similarly, we shall secure schools by providing round the clock SECURITY through intelligence, both physical and artificial. Our schools must be SECURED, by all means. *I shall draw a template to reward excellence inorder to promote the culture of efficiency, both for teachers and excelling students. We shall take seriously, issue of teacher training and ensure swift payments of entitlements. * I shall engage international development partners like UNESCO, DFID, Save the Children, USAID, etc to harness and explore various education interventions for the good of the state *In my capacity as a entrepreneur, I have already established an elaborate education intervention fund, where scholarships are provided to deserving individuals. I shall expand the scope and integrate more beneficiaries. This I was able to accomplish through my foundation. * An "Education champion, or Ambassador", for every local government will be created. The yearly event would pick the most outstanding student that performs excellently in both Common Entrance, WAEC/NECO, this is to motivate and spur others to do more. *At the tertiary level, I shall provide renewed platform for science and technical education. An emphasis on technology and science courses. *Vocational education would be on my priority list. We shall create such basic education centers in each of the local government, crafts and skills acquisition will be properly developed, sustained and harnessed. Mechanic, carpentry, fashion design, catering etc are some areas to be taught in such centers. *Niger under my watch will lay emphasis on STEAM- approach to meet with global best practices. STEAM stands for- Science.Technology.Education.Art.Mathematics. *An ICT Hub will be established in metropolitan Minna, as well as all zones where everyone, (Students and non students) would have access to information, and educative materials. *Library has been an avenue and center for research and learning. We shall repackage, restock, renovate and make them functional. Similarly, e-library will be developed, giving access to digitalized platforms. *Mobility and access to some schools has been a major challenge, where we could not have a particular school located in a given area, or community, we shall provide free bus, transporting students to and fro. In other words, we take the schools to such inaccessible locations. *Girl-child education will be prioritized. School age girls would be encouraged through sustained awareness. Provision of uniforms, books and other materials for learning shall be considered. And we shall not condone any form of violence against them. * School of health sciences and midwifery shall be established in each of the Senatorial zone, to encourage particularly female,or Girl-child education. *The Knotty issue of Almajiri school system shall be addressed. Because, it is a form of education too. We shall regulate the teaching and learning process. A teacher-training, and train- the-trainee mechanism shall be adopted. Age requirement for enrollment into the Tsangaya system shall be reviewed. Subjects like English and Mathematics would be included. *Adult education and Mass literacy centers shall be created in each local government across the state. * We shall constitute an independent tertiary, secondary and primary education board to supervise, develop and advise where necessary actionable plans to put Niger on the global spotlight as far as education is concerned. While most of these educational policies are broad, paucity of funds are some aspect to consider, we shall create the "Niger Educational Trust Fund" to make it realistic. No amount expended on education would be too costly. Individuals, corporate and private organizations shall make modest contribution as way of givings back to society. We shall make Niger a role model in Education to the envy of other states. I am a realist, politics and governance are public trust, I shall be held accountable someday to give account of my stewardship. My word is my Bond. You can take that to the bank. Alhaji Ibrahim Yahaya Mohammed sokodede, is the NNPP flagbearer for Niger State in the upcoming 2023 gubernatorial elections

Rt Hon Kabiru Alhassan Rurum (Turakin Rano): 10 Reason Why He Should be Governor. As 2023 beckons, so is the intensity of politicking among political actors, across States. In Kano, however, the battle is more intriguing given the composition and complex nature of its political terrain, which many ascribed to as "Siyasar Kano, Sai Kano", meaning, Kano's politics is exclusively reserved for Kano. With an array of aspirants gearing up for showdown, the ultimate price will be hotly contested. Kano's unique population remains by far unpredictable, blurred and yet, discernable, using some indicators a candidate posseses. Party politics and strengths doesn't really guarantee electoral victory, most time, individual or personal mien of a candidate does, as in the case of Mal. Ibrahim Shekarau, in 2023. Talking about candidate's perennial showiness or attributes, which Kanawas can judge, are the ultimate goal here. While its true, power of incumbency and states resources could win elections, most often than not, individuality and charismatic interpretation of a candidate by electorates goes a long way in ensuring victory. For Kano, 2023 will be unique in many ways. Does the incumbent Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has the wherewithal to install a successor, at least from the many who has indicated interest, or the persona capabilities of the candidates will ensure seamless victory for him at the polls. Below are 10 reasons why Rt. Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum has an edge over others and could get elected. 1. As a former Speaker of Kano state House of Assembly, he was able to build a formidable grassroot base and an effective network across the state. 2. He seems to avoid unnecessary crisis and doesn't carry with him political baggages. His interpersonal relationships in awesome. 3. He belongs to the ruling APC, and relates well with members of other political party thereby getting a strong footing in what goes on in the opposition camp. 4. A conservative, he also carries a traditional title of Turakin Rano, which puts him on a pedestal to respect the traditional and cultural circle in the state 5 A devout Muslim, he at best believes in the teaching of Islam. Has deep knowledge of its tenets and respect for ulamas, elders community and religious leaders. 6. Charitable and very benevolent, he has deep sense of compassion for people. He provides different interventions, like building schools, providing scholarships for indigent students, and erecting and equipping hospitals and health centers across his constituents and beyond. 7. He could be regarded as a new breed. He's among the young, vibrant articulate persons whose ideal leadership thrust had been tested and could be entrusted with governance of the state. 8. Has a youthful advantage, he is the link, or bridge between the old and new class of emerging political leadership Kano needed. 9. As 21st century brings with it immense innovations in areas of technology and ICT, equally, only leaders with sound understanding and knowledgeable about it can effectively leverage on its use, for rapid development, he can effectively take advantage of technology to break new grounds and sustain the State's infrastructural and economic development. 10. He's incorruptible with sound moral and ethical prowess which are evidently irrefutable. Kano continue to be moral compass for other states in northern Nigeria and beyond, as such, it'd at status must be guarded jealously. Abdullahi is with the Department of Political Science and International Studies at the Ahmadu Bello University-Zaria. He is the CEO of Ocean Media, Kano

GET-RICH-QUICK SYNDROME |
APC Chair & North Central: Senator George Akume remains the Shining light By APC Young Professionals Forum for Sen George Akume; 2022 He who seeks equity must do equity...... this according to Joseph Story, (1812-1845) a former Associate Justice of the US Supreme court. Equity should be all inclusive, concise and deliberate with far-reaching, albeit positive consequences. The past weeks had been nothing but intense horse trading and power play, in the ruling APC, obviously in the run up to the keenly anticipated convention, later in the month. Of truth, the power configuration in the country hadn't favoured the north central geopolitical zone, since the return of democracy, in 1999. It was the most accomodating, yet neglected zone, politically at the center. News filtering in about the party's decision to zone its Chairmanship position to the region is gratifyingly a pleasant surprise, which proved yet again the party has taken seriously internal party discipline and democracy. It is, I think, on the basis of equity, fairness and togetherness. That noble and conscientious decision will soothe frayed nerves, at least in the region which has been bamboozled with myriad of challenges -- Farmer-herder and religious unrest. The knotty Farmer-herder crisis, ostensibly cost the APC, Benue State, home to the fourth largest ethnic group in the country -- the Tiv. What the APC stakeholders did was the first step in attaining some level of equity, the second is, take into consideration, the composition and cultural diversities of the region and support the ambition of the Two-term Benue Governor, Senator and serving Minister of the federal republic of Nigeria, Senator George Akume. Senator Akume remains by far the most qualified for the Chairmanship position. His demeanor, charisma and administrative prudence stand him out from the pack. A loyal party man and team player, he has demonstrated his political dexterity when he defied all odds, as the ACN candidate, defeated the PDP candidate in their supposed stronghold for the Senate in 2011, and later emerge Senate Minority leader. Sen Akume has been unapologetically pro people. He isn't cut for divisive politics and doesn't play ethnic, tribal or religious politics. Sen Akume is a Statesman, a noble and fine gentleman whose love for the common man remains boundless. All through his tenure as Governor, Benue hasn't witnessed the kind of divisive social interaction amongst diverse groups. The State was.made hospitable for all, peace and development was his goal, which he pursued tirelessly. In 2019, his defeat was largely as a result of a well orchestrated campaign of calumny and propaganda using the unfortunate farmer- herder imbroglio, which the PDP maximized to their advantage. An Akume candidacy will reflect the principle of equity and religious harmony. Party men and women in the region who belong to different faiths would heave a sigh of relief, for having a detribalized Party Chair. It will also settle the question of inclusiveness and equity which, had in the past defined policies and politics in the region. Senator George Akume, obviously does not carry with him political baggage and corruption tag. And hasn't any running battle with agency. His legacies as Benue Governor is evidently present. Interventions in both the health and education sector is so loud, students of College of Health Sciences at the state university in Makurdi won't forget in a hurry. In areas of agriculture, human development and infrastructure are tremendously visible and dwarfs every other Governor that succeeds him. Since leaving Benue government house, till date, he has been actively involved in governance and formulation of policies for national development. He is progressively selfless, with charitable disposition across board. If equity was partly reason why APC stakeholders zone the Chairmanship to the Northcentral, then it is imperative, to consider among other things, faith and interpersonal relationship, both of which are key component of leadership, at least reflectively in the region. For equity and fairness, Senator George Akume should be supported by all, because, to him, the greatest investment is human development, regardless of region of faith. He has exhibited so, beyond doubt and can provide same as party Chair. For true unity and development of the Party and nation, Senator George Akume remains the man to beat. He can do the job, and must be supported by all to get the ticket, inorder to put the country on the path of growth, honor and sustainable development. Abdullahi Muhammad Is Co-convener, APC Arewa Young Professionals Forum for Sen George Akume, 2022
