Webmasters / Re: Please Webmasters, Read And Respond. I Am Confused by MaJBlige(f): 6:31pm On Feb 12, 2011
If you look at a website, you will find pages like "home, about us, contact us, our goals etc {i know they are called Static pages} but my question is how are they arranged on the website? {i mean, in some sites, you find them at the top-right hand screen. In some other site, you find them at the top-left hand side. Some sites even repeat them at the bottom of the home page. How are they taken there?} in the free hosting i have used, after i create my pages, they are automatically arranged for me. Now that i want to buy my own domain, how can i do that. Or is it that the hosting company would give me some all-ready made layouts to pick from just like the other free service like Blogger would do?

Why not simply use one of these free templates all over the place? They are good for a start.

When using a free service, i am asked to choose a template from already made ones. Please would it be same with a paid service or i would have to create a template myself. If i would have to create myself, how do i go about it.

For paid services, you are not forced to use their templates, if any. It is not absolutely a must for you to use templates on your website - you can create your pages afresh by using your own HTML/Scripts etc. These days, everything is pick and drop objects - if you use programmes like Microsoft Frontpage, Visual Web developer, Visual Studio, Dreamweaver etc - most of the HTML parts are objects you can simply drop unto your pages without writing codes or using templates -

There are however lovely templates all over the place - for free or for a fee and they come very very handy and makes the job easier.

I do both HTML and CSS hand coding. I can create a form and SUBMIT botton but my problem is, when these forms are filled where are they submitted to and how can i create the destination and be able to retrieve people information after their submition?

It depends on what you want to do or what way you like to process your form data. You can send the form data to a backend database - mysql, access or the bigger ones - oracle etc. So you must have a backend DB that retrieves or collects the values and save them into a table on the DB. Or, if you want, you can process the data real time - on the fly and have the result sent to the calling page or to another page. To do these you need a CGI script to make it work - again it depends on the developing environment you are using.

To retrieve information after submission, you also need some form of script to collect the data from source, process and output it as you wish.

When you fill a form online and submit, on coming back the next day to log in, if you provide a wrong username, you will get a writing in red "invalid username or password." How is this programmed? Also, when signing up on NL for instance, if you use my username "winnerslfc," you will be told that the name is already in use. How can i enable this on my site.

When you hit the submit button, their are what is called validation scripts on the page, they check the format and etc of each form element, and if anything is wrong, the page simply displays a message.

In the case of usernames/passwords - there is a query which checks the form entries to the content of a Database table - example- the script behind the button - e.g. the onClick event of an image or a button, will have a query to say, if any of the details doesnt match the one in the DB, simply post an error message.

They all work with scripts - but these days of asp.net/visual studio - they are all drag and drop objects you can use without writing a code.

When you sign up with a web host, do i just get a blank page and thats all or they would also have some things to give me like: template, theme, layout etc just like "wordpress would do in their free blog offer?

Everything is blank, you have to create your own pages - upload them - or use existing templates - upload them to the server -

Off course your home page will be named something like - index.html or default.asp or so - depending on which platform you are developing.

@udezue, GEJ should be held responsible for this. Its not my fault. I was not the event planner, so what is your problem? How did thing went awry? Why is GEJ always associated with evil at his campaign grounds? At nassarawa, people walk out on a whole Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, he was pelted with stones at one of his campaign, at ibadan it was a show of Rascality by GEJ. Why is he always associated with Evil? Maybe we need to start a thread on this. May the soul of those dead rest in perfect peace. God almighty will punished those who lead to your premature  death.

This is extremely petty - to say the least.

Noone is pressured to put a mere poster on their own cars. It is not worthwhile to use it as an argument for usurping national institutions.

Come on.

Please - why do u believe that story?

We live in Abuja and I can tell you that is not a true story.

Have u gone round asking these guys by yourself?

I dont know where Police harass cab drivers in Abuja where u hardly see road blocks.

What you see are vehicle inspection officers and they have reasons to stop the cabs.

Lets be objective for once.

How do we verify the names of these drivers and their authenticity?

No disagreement between Atiku and I – Jonathan

http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201102111431521

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday said there was no disagreement between him and other aspirants that contended for the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic party last month.

At the primary election held on January 13 in Abuja, Jonathan defeated former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and Mrs. Sarah Jibril. Last week, Abubakar said he was open to dialogue on the way forward for the party. Jibril was present at the launch of Jonathan’s presidential campaign in Lafia, Nasarawa State on Monday.

Addressing PDP members during the launch of his North-West campaign at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna, Jonathan said, “Let me assure you that the primaries are over and I and the other contenders have been meeting. There is no more differences between us.”

He, however, promised to work hard, if elected in April, and called for unity among Nigerians in order to ensure the country’s greatness. After calling for a minute’s silence in honour of his predecessor, the late President Umaru Yar’adua, Jonathan lamented the level of poverty in the country.

He said, “We must stimulate education in this country if we want to develop. That is why we are creating new universities. Two of them have been approved for the North-West in 2011 while next year, there will an additional two.

“We have discovered that some states in this country do not have a degree-awarding institution while others have two. We have approved a university each for Jigawa and Katsina and next year, there will additional two for Zamfara and Kebbi.”

He also described the North-West as the political hub of the country, saying it had about 25 per cent of the nation’s population. Earlier, Vice-President Namadi Sambo had said the sum of N50bn was provided in the 2011 budget for job creation. Sambo also said the President had approved the establishment of boarding schools for the 9.5 million almajiri across the North.

The PDP governorship candidate in Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, however, stole the show at the rally as thousands of his supporters intermittently chanted his name. Commercial activities and vehicular movement were practically grounded as security operatives blocked some major routes within the Kaduna metropolis.

However, the President’s campaign billboard adjacent to the North-West zonal campaign office of the Jonathan/Sambo Campaign Organisation was destroyed by unknown persons.

Also, Jonathan’s visit to the volatile Rigassa area of the Kaduna metropolis for the official inauguration of the standard fast train guage project was cancelled for security reasons.
Politics / Again, Spain Deports 60 Nigerians - Making 145 From Europe In 3 Days. by MaJBlige(f): 3:40pm On Feb 11, 2011
http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/17424-again-spain-deports-60-nigerians

BARELY three days after 85 Nigerians were deported from Europe, another batch of 60 were, on Thursday, again deported by the Spanish government, thus bringing to 145 the number of Nigerians deported in the last three days.

The deportees, who arrived the Murtala Muha-mmed Airport, Lagos, aboard an Air Europa chartered flight, were brought in at 5.30 p.m.

They comprised 45 males and 15 females and were brought back for committing various immigration offences, ranging from drug trafficking to immigration-related offences.

According to sources in the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the deportees, accompanied by law enforcement agent from Madrid, Spain, were received at the Lagos airport by their Nigerian counterparts and other law enforcement agents.

Those who were brought based on drug-related offences were handed over the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further interrogation, while those with immigration offences were taken away by the NIS for further interrogation.

Only on Tuesday, 85 were deported, comprising 56 males, 19 females and 10 children who were said to have committed several immigration offences, credit card fraud and other social vices.
