Fashion / How MAC Makeup Can Be Bad For You by MakeupPro(f): 12:18pm On Jan 12, 2012
As a Professional with makeup we have come to understand the basic makeup needs of the average Nigerian women. After a survey run last year, we discovered over 50% of the ladies would use MAC makeup brands.
Painfully, it is unfortunate that this particular brand isnt so good for our skins mostly because of our harsh climate and constant unpredictable weather changes.
MAC is an amazing brand thats great for Makeup in Photoshoots, Video shoots and Fashion. But on a daily basis, it might not be so good for you, espeacially if you have oily/combination skin. Because it is so caked in production to enhance full coverage, it contains a lot of oils.

We have come up with several other options of Makeup brands that are great for you.
My favorite is IMAN. Iman is a specially created brand for the African/African-American skin. And there are lots of different options to choose from.

There's also MaryKay which works so well espeacially if you have very little knowledge of applying makeup.
For best coverage and a really clear natural finish, ensure to use A Foundation wedged sponge for application of your foundation and always set foundation in with powder. Any questions? Post them below!

Fashion / Makeup Products Reviews by MakeupPro(f): 7:07pm On Jun 01, 2011
There are so many products in the market today and off the shelves of beauty stores that we completely get carried away when shopping for our makeup bags.
My clients, all the time tell me how they take brand names over cheap products. This shouldnt be the general rule to buying makeup or any beauty range at all. You shouldnt get into the frenzy of buying brand names. Expensive doesnt necessarily mean good for you. As a matter of fact, most times we are paying for the packaging than we are for the product itself.

Im going to state some simple and easy-on-the-pocket products that i use for high professional jobs and they work perfectly!

- Instead of Expensive brow pencils, i have found two great pencils that work magic if done right! The Davis No.3 and the mass produced MAC pencils No.2
If you are a pro at grooming and filling your brows and you know how to work the magic of brow pencils, these pencils which go for btw N50 AND N100 work perfectly

-E.L.F makeup brushes - They are not as expensive as the MaryKay/Mac/Sleek brushes but they work just as great

-The best spondges for foundation are the wedge shaped sponges. They work great, allowing foundation to sink perfectly into the epidermis of the skin and make your makeup stay on seamlessly. Buy the pack of 8 from Sleek for just N500

-Foundation Primer + Oil control - I advice the use of primer all the time. Whats better than having primer+moisturizer+Oil control in one?? You get this great product called the 'Oil Matifier' from Mark Kay for N1900 and it lasts for a long time!

There are so many products that are great, if you have more to share please add them below so Makeup lovers can be enlightened.

Also to Become a Professional Makeup artist, you can enrol in our Training courses today. We offer only two sessions every year and this course begins June 6th. For details and registration procedures please click here --

Fashion / How To Start A Career As A Makeup Artist. by MakeupPro(f): 12:45pm On May 30, 2011
To become a Makeup artist, i tell my clients all the time, You have to be first of all, very creative. Makeup artistry isnt just about apply products here and there, its creativity. Working with your mind, putting colors together, with very neat techniques at your finger tips, the rest is as easy as a b c.

As a Makeup artist, you'd get to work in important sectors such as Fashion, Advertising, Film/Tv, Photography, Videos, Entertainment, Weddings, Events and many more. You'd have the pleasure of determining your own work hours, your profits, your clientelle, and you can even work from home!
There are so many makeup artists in the business today but not many of them have the right information. You need to be able to expand your clientelle base, your business and your brand itself.

To become a Makeup artist however, you have to take proper Professional training and then you have to license or register your business legally.
Read more on this information here - www.mymakeupmag.tk

If you'd like to register for our Makeup courses starting June 6th, please read this page carefully.

Fashion/Clothing Market / What You Need To Become A Successful Makeup Artist by MakeupPro(f): 12:30pm On May 22, 2011
Makeup artistry is an independent business that puts creative people on the edge, big profits, interesting jobs, flexible work schedules, meeting people and being a majot player in the lives of many people and their businesses. However, There are several Makeup artists in the business today. Like there is always competition in any and every business. The question is how do you stay ahead of the competition and be even better, having a Makeup business that grows and expands daily?
There are a few things you can begin to work on to be better in your business as a Makeup artist. Some of these include -
LICENSCING – First, you’d need to get licensed. Register your business and own rights to work freely and run your business. This would curb you of any trouble and show people that you are genuine and professional at what you do. Getting a licensed business name is not a difficult task at all.

MAKEUP KIT - No one will have a makeup kit waiting for you when you walk into a photo shoot. Be prepared. You will need foundations, concealers, eye shadows and blushers in every color. At many photo shoots, you'll need tools to cover up a tattoo or birthmark. You need to have everything with you at all times. Keep it clean and stay organized. Your makeup kit represents you as a makeup artist. If people see you have dirty brushes and missing color palettes, your career could be threatened. Your reputation is what is going to get more work.

MAKEUP ARTIST PORTFOLIO - As a freelance makeup artist, your portfolio will be your resume. You don't need years of experience to develop an impressive makeup artist portfolio; all you need is talent and models. Where will you find your models? You can find your makeup models by volunteering at local fashion shows and photo shoots. Since fashion shows typically employ the services of 12 models, you will have added 12 new makeup looks to your makeup artist portfolio in just one night. If that doesn’t work out right for you for one reason or another, you could make models off your friends! Invite them over to a studio and get creative. Make sure your images are presented professionally. You could spend some money on a website, get a leather-bound portfolio or, if you are on a budget, create a web gallery. Just make sure it looks clean and professional.

MAKEUP ARTIST WEBSITE - Create a website. All makeup artists need a website. A website can serve as your online portfolio, your rate sheet and your business presence on the web. You can hire a graphic designer to create a chic website for you for a small fee. All you need to supply is the domain name, your portfolio and your text. You can even have the graphic artist create a logo for your makeup artist services (for an extra fee of course).

BUSINESS CARD - Create a business card. Most people say that flashy business cards aren't necessary, but quite the opposite holds true for you. You, my friend, are a professional makeup artist. Your career is in the beauty/fashion industry, so a flashy business card is a necessity. Hire a graphic designer to create a makeup artist business card that is right for you and that has the proper amount of glitz and glamour. After all, you do not want to hand out ho-hum business cards to your prospective clients.

MARKET YOUR SERVICES - You're not just a makeup artist, you're a freelance makeup artist. As a freelancer, your business relies directly upon your marketing efforts. If you don't get clients on a regular basis, you won't have food on the table. Start marketing your freelance makeup artistry services aggressively by hiring a graphic designer to create attractive and professional caliber brochures of your services. Be sure to include your logo, rate sheet, service menu, whether or not you travel to the client's location, your website and your contact information. Include at least two images of your work in your makeup artist brochure (just so people can see what you can do). After your brochures are delivered, hand them out to local wedding boutiques, hair salons, spas and any other location that seems appropriate.

NETWORK - Talk to artist reps, talk to photographers, talk to producers, make friends with modeling agents and go to industry parties. The more friends you have in your line of work, the better connected you'll be. Follow up with people. When you update your portfolio, send out an email to all of your contacts. If someone gives you a card and tells you about a potential gig, call them the next day. Be aggressive. Make friends with other makeup artists. Many people think of other makeup artist as competition, but they can be big help!

DISCOUNTS - Once you start getting clients on a regular basis, you want to give them incentives to keep you as their go-to makeup artist. Give your clients rebates on your services for each client they bring your way. For example, if a client refers you as a makeup artist for her sister's wedding, offer your client a makeup application for 50% off next time. Additionally, you can create a more advanced and aggressive rebate plan. An example of an aggressive rebate plan would be, "refer 10 clients to me and you get 1 free makeup application and a makeup artist goodie bag."

These are some of the basic things you have to take into consideration as a makeup artist.
Perhaps you are wondering how you too can be a part of this industrious world of Makeup and would like to start a career as a Makeup artist, then enrol in our Training program! you need to take professional training to sharpen your creative skills and teach you the art of makeup artisty. Our Classes for intending Makeup Artists begin May 30th 2011. Register online today at www.mymakeupmag.tk

Fashion / How To Create Perfect Looking Brows! by MakeupPro(f): 12:23pm On May 22, 2011
Your eyebrows frame your face! thats why it was put there in the first place. so shaving it all off and creating your pencil version brows is a definite no-no! Whats best is grooming your natural brows, tweezing along your natural brow lines and creating a shape that well suits your face.
I tell my clients all the time, if you do not understand the concept of art/drawing you cannot get perfectly tweezed brows, best to meet a professional to help you.
In grooming your eyebrows, you'd need, a brow brush, a tweezer and blades.

However when you apply your makeup and you want to make your brows appear fuller or smoother, depending on how much damage has been done, what your need is soft shading strokes, not drawing pencil lines back and forth. Stroke the pencil into you brow hairs, a stroke at a time, creating for yourself, eyebrows that are still natural looking.
Your pencil color choice would depend on how dark or how light your skin tone is. Whatever the skin tone/complexion you have, your eyebrow pencil choice should NEVER be black. Thats a huge fashion mishap we experience from women daily.

Enjoy your femininity, show off the best features of your face, your brows is an essential feature that brings it all together, even when you dont wear any makeup at all.

Fashion / How To Make Your Makeup Last Longer! by MakeupPro(f): 11:53am On May 22, 2011
Primer!!!!
Makeup primer is your daily solution to makeup that wears out fast. Most people who complain about this situation are people with oily skin, combination skin and sometimes Normal skin.
You find out that when you begin to sweat, you are more prone to dabbing and dabbing at your face, thereby stripping your makeup off layer after layer and leaving unsightly smearing of makeup that once looked so good when you stepped out of your house.

You need a foundation primer to help with how much sweat you expel through your epidermis. As a makeup artist, my favourite foundation primer to use is 'Mary Kay's Oil Matifier' - it goesfor a high price of #1800-#2000 but a tube of this amazing oilcontrol lotion+Foundation primer in one can last up until 4months. (Depending on how often you wear makeup)
apply oil matifier, which looks like a soft face lotion, just before applying foundation. What this does is reduce how much you sweat on your face, and allows foundation to glide on easily and smoothly.
Your foundation and makeup in general stays on much longer and looks much better. Remember the best way to apply foundation is using the foundation wedge sponges.

PRO TIP?? If you do not have an eye primer, use your liquid foundation as primer on your eye area!! What this does is makeu your eyemakeup look seamless and neat, and stays on much longer. You doubt it? Try applying makeup on one eye without foundation, then on the other with foundation.
Do come back on this thread to share the  differences you notice.  smiley
