LAW AND PRACTICE, TWO STREAMS FLOWING IN DIFFERENT CHANNEL.

Theoretically n practically, it doesn't matter whether u verify the C of O before u contract the building; because, ownership of land in Nigeria is vested in the government (as stipulated in the Land Use Act). Therefore, any excuse stated before the said demolition is just for formality n to sympathize with the public. Govt go claim any land anywhere.

Wonderfully, the Land Use Act made stipulation for "adequate compensation". Whence, it's rightful for the govt to claim or reclaim any land and it's also rightful for the govt to compensate the owner. But what does the law mean by "adequate"?

Practically, govt will demolish a building worth hundredth of millions and compensate the owner in thousands.

During Obasanjo regime, the govt claimed some land and compensate the owners with #10,000 naira, they rejected it for heaven sake!!!. Late Gani( the oracle of the law) challenged the govt n sue her to court for inadequate compensation, after series of appeal, the Court, while interpreting the clause, opined that, the govt is not to be tied down with any specific amount (govt is at will to give any amount as compensation) to come finish common man, court say compensation is not a right but a privilege.... imagine that ...
Well, I forget the case law n I'm not sure if we have a new judicial interpretation now.(moreso, if Dem justice Niki Tobi (the golden voice n interpreter of the law couldn't muscle something better, I doubt the current system)
But, the Niger-deltans n govt (during the same Obasanjo regime) is also a case study of this abuse of our common right.

To our TENANCY LAW IN NIGERIA,
What clauses is actually contained in "agreement n commission" that we pay hugely for?
Did we take our time to input a clause in the agreement that will serve as authority for us before the court of law to hold the landlord to pay for damages we incur for premature termination of a binding contract?
Whatever the case maybe, the landlord have a suitable defence (the "doctrine of frustration "wink
If the court should acquaint this defense ehn.....hmmm
Moreso, "Nemo dat quod non habet" he can't give what he don't have oo.

Government dey insensitive to all this issues o.
Ideally, the govt ought to give "adequate compensation" to landlord, and from that "adequate compensation" ehn, landlord go settle tenants...

Conclusively, in a State, ruled by law, all this issues na small thing...but Nigeria isn't ruled by law. Few weeks back, the Court issued a restraining order say make NLC no go strike, NLC disregard the Court order with contempt and proceed with the strike, funny enough, judiciary joined the strike...what a ridicule.

In such situation, the first thing to do, na to pack ur property exit that building to avoid double wahala....if u have extra coin, u could take a lawyer, perhaps, the case could usher in a new era in our legal system. We all hope for that.
God bless Nigeria.

Why not, if u enter Total/Chicken republic nobody will harass u there. If u drive into house on d rock street, nobody will harass u there. U can't damage the tyre in that short distance. Except it has gone down long before then, but Platinum way was just behind u, before Nicon. So U had options man.

This Lagos is wild, I was on my way from osapa to unilag when I entered a big pot hole and my tyre deflated instantly, I parked by the road side to switch my tyre with the spare only for these touts/miscreants to appear from nowhere, they were 7 in numbers, they offered to help me but I said I'm okay with changing the tyre myself, I thought they would leave after telling them that but to my surprise, they were waiting.

After removing the deflated tyre, I went inside my trunk to bring out the spare only for these miscreants to tell me that before I can fix the spare, I will have to pay them money, I asked money for what and they said money for car break down on their road, I then asked again, where is your road and they said where I parked that i will have to pay them before I can do anything in my car. They hijacked the spare tyre from me and started rolling it away, I asked them, so how much am I paying and they said 10k, i said what! 10k for what and they said again for car break down in their territory, I looked around hoping I could see any government car or something that will pass so I can flag it down while they come to my rescue but I didn't see none then it dawn on me that I'm on my own and the only way I could sort this out is to relate with them friendly so I switched to my street OT and let them know we are brothers and I'm also a hustler like them and they don't have to be so aggressive, they then asked me how much am I giving them, I brought out 800naira hoping they will take it but they refused and started rolling my spare tyre away again, then I called the one giving them order to a side and relate with him like a brother with some kind of street slangs, he then realized I have some street OT too, then I brought out the last 1k in my car to add to the 800naira, making it 1800, he then collected it with appreciation for having a friendly conversation with them.

That was how my street OT saved me from this scavengers, now, I'm beginning to wonder if someone without this OT or someone so fearful encounter them, how will the person handle the situation without getting robbed or being beaten....

Lagos is truly wild..

Abeg...
Shey na for daytime anarchy dey unravel like dis...

There are turns in numerous places. Truth is if you're not conversant with the area you'd always have a hard time understanding it's detours.

Hope all the detour is reflecting on Google map?

Hehehe this life is funny sha, these places you're afraid of are the same places many people are very comfortable with. Most of these places are just along that straight stretch of road from orile to badagry. I understand work is still ongoing on the road but they have gone very far.

What exactly do drivers fear going to these routes? Is it Lastma, Vio, frsc, traffic or just plain bad roads?

Unless seeing passengers taking you back out is the phobia I don't see why the excessive fear. Truth is that all those state government's forces that terrorise motorists in most other parts of lagos are very laid back and relaxed along that lagos - badagry axis for the usual taxis and private vehicles. Only those hauling goods get jittery and for good reason (customs checkpoints)

The only major places I know where you're likely to jam wereys are between mile2 and maza-maza first gate (VIO Office on service lane), between Alakija bridge and Barracks (FRSC office on service lane) and at Okokomaiko/iyana-oba (LASTMA at that under bridge turning towards iyana-school/igando) but all in all those ones at these axis aren't as strict as the ones you usually jam at other places in lagos.

When it comes to traffic the major places to watch out for are at volks/alaba and trade fair sides going towards mile2 between the hours of 4:30pm - 6pm (because of traders closing from market) and passing Satellite town on the days when tankers are loading petroleum products from the oil depots because they might cause slight traffic between trade fair and abule-ado where they park and queue, then just before Finaija/Dantata bus stop (between abule-ado and alakija) where they have to turn into ijegun to load their fuel, kero and diesel. If its about bad roads then its unless you're going towards and passing ijanikin you'd encounter it where I'm sure the road work is still ongoing.

Well maybe it's because I've been living along this axis since the day I was born that's why it's very comic seeing drivers groan about coming here. I swear if I was driving on ehailing and I encountered any passenger coming towards this side I will first groan because of the location like you guys always do just to get them to take the trip offline so I can hammer full time and very comfortably grin

I even see residents here complaining that most ehailing drivers don't agree to come to festac/Satellite and I smile. Maybe it's because this is mostly a residential part of the state hence it will be mostly easier to get trips out in the mornings and back in the evenings.

Very detailed n useful..
Make I dey pen this info down

Can you see they ignored you since? Let someone reply you, they will leave the solution and start attacking the person attempting to help you.

Back to your question, your muscle is good and will serve you well. It is advisable you get LASDRI considering the fact that you won't be driving on just 1 app.

Since you're just starting out, the first thing to understand how many ehailing apps are there and how each one works. Second is to have a target and have a plan towards achieving it.

Go to autochek.com, they have few Honda accords there within that range. I mentioned Autochek because they have good Nigerian Used cars.

Other suggestions can be buying Toyota Camry 1999 model directly from dealers.

1.5m on Cars45 should also get you a Volkswagen Passat but there's a gist about the which is matter for another day.

Shalom

For emphasis sake,
Is 1999 model acceptable with Uber n Bolt?

Infact, I dey the same, exact situation like this. Though I m currently processing my reg (Dem say na after three wks e go ready) meanwhile, theoretically, it's not an offence to use the seller's docs since it's valid. But, the fear of police extortion is the beginning of wisdom oo

Getting a vehicle on loan in today's economy, that idea is not so good because you will have to work your ass off to repay the loan. Petrol price is very high and Bolt fare doesn't commensurate with it except when there is surge. Fare is low, you will spend a lot of fuel and do so many trips before you can make a reasonable profit per day.

If there are no option of getting a Car other than loan, I will advice you go for a car loan between 2 to 3 miilion naira. It would be easier for you to repay on time. Maximum of 2years is enough to repay and the car wont suffer depreciation.

Brand new and Tokunbo Cars are very expensive, grade A sound Nigerian used cars on loan would make sense.

As per how you can juggle work, family and ehailing (driving) together, talking from my own experience.

I will suggest you drive on weekends, Friday night, Saturday and Sunday are the days to make good money. These 3 days can fetch you 60k to 100k after expenses depending on how long you can work. In a month that should be around 240k to 400k.

This is the best time to drive Uber for someone who is busy weekdays with job or other business

Friday from 7pm -12am N15,000 to N20,000 profit

Saturday From 5am - 10pm N20,000 to N40,000 profit

Sunday 5am - 10pm N25,000 to N45,000 profit

Total of these 3 days are usually between 60k to 100k in a week, you can give it a shot

Good luck !

Thanks, once again.
Let me work on the loan and get a vehicle first.
I go need mentoring abeg
