Students of Kogi State origin in tertiary institutions, have appealed to lecturers in Kogi State University, Ayangba, to call off their three months old strike. The students, under the aegis of National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS), made the appeal on Tuesday in Lokoja during a press conference. The President of NAKOSS, Mr Ahamadu Ibrahim, told newsmen that students and parents had been at the receiving end of the lecturers’ action, saying it was time they have a rethink. “We are tired of staying at home. “Since Governor Yahaya Bello had already met 80 per cent of their demands, the lecturers should call off the strike to pave a way for the remaining unresolved matters to be thrashed through round table discussion,’’ Ibrahim pleaded He urged the lecturers to be mindful of the negative implications of the continued closure of the institution, saying that the future of the state and its citizens was at stake. The NAKOSS President commended Gov. Bello’s administration for its efforts to take education out of the woods and pleaded with stakeholders in the sector to cooperate and support the government. He chided the national secretariat of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) for issuing ultimatum to Kogi government over the strike by the lecturers in KSU. “Two wrongs will never make a right. NAKOSS dissociates itself from the position of NANS. “We believe that Governor Yahaya Bello should rather be commended for his efforts at reaching out to the lecturers to prevail on them to suspend the strike,” Ibrahim said. With all humility and due respect I write amidst sorrow and unquantifiable volume of tears to appeal to His excellency Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, the executive Governor of Kogi State to on the side of the state government engage the Leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in a peaceful and holistic dialogue to end the ongoing Three (3) Months old ASUU strike which has caused a lot of harrowing implications on the innocent Students and the entire University system. I acknowledge the efforts of the government especially with the payment of Four out of the Five months salary arrears which was the most pressing issue amidst other demands as at the time the industrial action was declared. We note with dismay that as it is , the whole issue has become a matter of "Ego" and seemingly battle for "Primacy" with the government having to bank on its efforts and ASUU on the other side demanding for further efforts as it is not enough to make part payment and order for resumption as if other demands are of no relevance couple with the Letter of Appeal cum "No Work, No pay" Warning. This appeal is in good fate and with all sense of responsibility to at least reassure all concerned parties of the neutrality of Student Leaders under the aegis of the Students Union Government (SUG)in collaboration with the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) both of Kogi State University Anyigba chapter in the mediatory roles played so far. More painful is the fact that as at the time the strike was declared examination was expected or scheduled to start in less than three (3) days to come. Sitting down to analyze the implications of the action raises a moral question which we are all expected to answer subjectively (I.e as it appears to us individually). For public knowledge let Me state that with pity on us that the implications of the 'No pay, No Works' action includes delay in the mobilization of Students for the 2016 Batch A compulsory National Youth Service (NYSC) as the result coalition of the 2014/2015 graduates is put on hold, delay in Law School mobilization is also on hold still because of the earlier reason, delay in the completion of the 2015/2016 academic calendar, exposition of students to social vices, Low ranking of the University and summarily total disbalancing of the University system. Like we have severally said, it is not our interest to know who is right or wrong among the two worrying parties but rather we are most concerned about the plight of our fellow students which is the immediate calling off of the ongoing strike and an end to the seemingly perennial Strike action. We are therefore calling on Government and ASUU to come to an understanding with each other to this effect for the sake of the students, our future and our image as a state known for academic excellence. Dialogue remains the best solution. And if we must be frank with each other if this continues the shame will be for all of us either as a Government functionary, Lecturer, Student or a stake holder in the state as it will be a clear indication that while we are enjoying the fruits borne out of the struggle of our past leaders we have refused to help uplift our glory. We should want to believe that there is no political or ethnic sentiments on this matter as such will only lead us all astray and God Almighty will never forgive whoever may be involved regardless of status. Kogi State University is ours and we must put aside all our differences and reconcile amicably in the spirit of oneness and patriotism or else peace will be far from us even in death. We are the Leaders of tomorrow and whoever in their various comfort zones mortgage our future is heading towards a shameful ending. To you His excellency sir, your emergence as the Governor of Kogi State has so much been described as divinely and as such your loyalty in totality goes to Almighty God (Ohomorihi) , and as confirmed by both holy scriptures the voice of the people is the Voice God . Therefore, please treat this issue as a servant even as you are the number one citizen of the state at least for the interest of we the students who forms a great portion of Youths that ensured your victory and God Almighty will widen your horizon . To our Tutors (Lecturers), your responsibilities as lectures involves research and community service, therefore for the sake of us the students who are your children and our suffering parents embrace a peaceful and sincere approach and call us back to school. Please Ego should be shifted aside and if truly your struggles is for the system, Rome was not built in a day and as such a different measure should be adopted for the struggle and we be allowed to have uninterrupted academic sessions. We should remember that if the system is right and there are no people to appreciate it with right frame of minds no goal will be achieved and continuing staying at home of students when they are supposed to be in school may affect their lives negatively which at the end will be in contrary to the aim of tertiary education. We ate quite aware of how much how the Union has in the past conceded but then as it is we believe with the gradual calling on government like the Dean Students Affairs (Dr S.O Usman) did sometimes ago in several media platforms will do us more good than bad. To fellow Students of Kogi State University, I have several read with mixed feelings your calls for protest and accusation on my humble self and my very good friend Comrade Shaibu Philip Omepa (SUG President) as regards being bought over by Government. This is totally untrue. As your leaders, as much as we are committed towards serving you better remember we must do this within the dictates of the law(s). Please accept my appeal for your patience as we see an end to all of this soonest. Best regards! ABDULMALIK HADI ADINOYI. NAKOSS PRESIDENT K.S.U ANYIGBA. http://www.maquinsblog.com/2016/07/kogi-state-university-ASUU-strike.html?m=1

Former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Emmanuel Ibe-Kachikwu, said in his handover remarks yesterday that the corporation, which he said had never made profit before, made N217 million profit under his watch. “I am happy to announce that in our May results, for the first time in the history of this company, the NNPC made a profit of N217 million,” he told the gathering at the NNPC Towers while handing over to the new GMD, Dr. Maikanti Kacalla Baru, in Abuja. . On the production volume that has reduced owing to the vandalisation of oil pipelines by the Niger Delta Avengers, Kachikwu, who remains the chairman of NNPC’s board of directors and Minister of State for Petroleum, said, “We are doing 1.9 million barrels.” According to him, the Federal Government had been working on bringing an end to the crisis in the Niger Delta. He added that he was still studying what created the gap in order to further engage the people and bridge the gaps. He said: “We are working on it and I need to meet with Mr. President for I have just returned and obviously there is a lot more engagement that is required. “There are gaps that seem to have developed and I need to understand what issues warranted that. “But we will work towards closing those gaps.” Asked when Forcados would come back on stream, the minister said by the end of this month. “By the end of July,” he said. Kachikwu expressed joy for holding four positions at the same time, stressing that surprisingly, for 11 months, he managed the sector as the GMD of NNPC, Minister of State for Petroleum, President of OPEC and President of APPA before his recent appointment as board chairman. The minister said: “It is surprising that in the 11 months I’ve managed to serve as GMD of NNPC, as Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, as OPEC President, as the President of APPA and I’ve just been appointed the Chairman of NNPC board; all in 11 months. “There are not many people in the world who would have those opportunities within that time frame or be given that opportunity by a leader. So we all have the President to be very thankful to.” Kachikwu however promised to give full support to the new GMD in order to ensure that he succeeds. He said that there had been very massive restructuring at the NNPC, which had been able to set out various parameters of the business to be profit-focused entities on their own. On reducing cost, the minister said: “Working with (the Ministry of) Finance, we have been able to cut operational cost close to about 30 per cent, which was one of the first things that we did and it saved a lot of money for the group. “We undertook deregulation at the time nobody thought it was possible. And if there’s anything we leave for this industry, it must be the legacy of that deregulation. “Today our consumption of fuel has gone down by 30 per cent. Wwe have no queues in the filling stations. “We have one and a half months of self sufficiency. We have strategic reserves that we are putting together and we have a funding scheme to enable the downstream to be able to adequately fund itself. “We have succeeded in removing subsidy and saving over N1.4tn for this country on a yearly basis. “We have reduced upstream contracting period from the average of between two and a half years to between six and nine months, and we have started a massive commercialisation of every aspect of our business. “Refineries have challenges but we have been able to take them to a point where the three refineries are working for the first time in about 10 years, but still not at the capacity that we want. “We need to find a structure, and we have started, in which private funds will go into the refineries and we will be able to rebuild our refineries to 90 or 100 per cent capacity. “I’ve already made a commitment that by 2018, 60 per cent of refined products importation will stop, and by 2019, we must become a net exporter of refined petroleum products.” http://thenationonlineng.net/nnpc-made-n217m-profit-watch-says-kachikwu/ |

There are few things as painful as realizing your husband doesn’t love you anymore. While some signs are obvious, most of the warning signs come subtly. These 14 signs can help you know – before it’s too late – if your spouse is falling out of love with you. 1. He avoids being around you when he doesn’t have to If he only hangs out with you when everyone expects him to, he’s not doing it out of love. He’s doing it out of obligation. 2. He doesn’t put any effort into the relationship You shouldn’t expect 50/50 effort in a marriage. But if you are giving EVERYTHING, and he is giving close to nothing, that’s a sign he’s lost interest in keeping the relationship healthy. 3. He sends inconsistent messages Unless he has bipolar disorder, his affection should be relatively consistent. If he gives you the cold shoulder one day and the next day he’s snuggling up to you, this is not a good sign. 4. He only shows appreciation for you on holidays If he only says “I love you” on special holidays, your husband is most likely living up to social expectations and not actually expressing how he feels. 5. He nitpicks your quirks Everyone has quirks, and it’s natural that yours might annoy him. But if he consistently complains about tiny quirks you have, he’s not coming from a place of love. He likely wouldn’t be satisfied even if you stopped doing what he claims is annoying. 6. He makes intimacy seem like a chore Therapist Aaron Anderson said, “It’s okay to have boring s*x sometimes (like when you just want to do it because you finally have time and don’t know when you’ll have time again), but if you have boring s*x too much, you’ll find it starts bleeding over outside the bedroom.” If you consistently feel like your husband is not intimate with you when you’re having s*x, something is wrong. 7. He doesn’t forgive you You’re both going to mess up over and over. Love is accepting people’s mistakes and letting go of hurt feelings. It means not bringing up past mistakes. If he can’t do that, he doesn’t love you. 8. He puts EVERYTHING else before you Things pop up occasionally, but at the end of the day, you need to know that when you really need him, he’ll absolutely be there. Otherwise, his priorities are all wrong. 9. He claims everything is always your fault There is only room for one love in the mind of someone who always has to be right – and it’s themselves. 10. He treats you more like a roommate and coworker than a lover If your only conversations are about bills, chores or the children, beware. 11. He doesn’t care about your heartaches Marriage is in sickness and in health. If he doesn’t comfort you on your worst days, he is only interested in the healthy days of marriage – not during the eras of sickness. 12. He puts you down There is no room for love in any emotional abuse. Your husband should lift and encourage you. He should be your best support. Destructive words only come from the heart of one who has neglected his love for you. 13. He doesn’t keep his promises We’re not talking about occasionally forgetting he told you he would take out the trash. This refers to a man who promises to take you on a date, but two years later, it still hasn’t happened. When you love someone, you keep your promises. 14. He resents (and nags about) how you spend your time Resentment poisons love. If your husband starts to nag about things, like how you spend your time, he’s probably been building up resentment about it for a long time. The good news is that falling in and out of love is a choice. Your husband may have forgotten how to love you, but you can both choose to fall in love all over again if … you’re both willing to put in the effort. |
Militants, suspected to be members of the Niger Delta Avengers, on Friday morning, attacked and destroyed pipelines belonging to the Nigerian Agip Oil Company in Bayelsa State. The militants reportedly struck at between 3am and 5am and blew up Nembe 1, 2, 3 and Tebedaba Brass trunkline in Bayelsa. They were said to have arrived the affected areas on speedboats with two double 200 horsepower engines. The militants, it was learnt, allegedly engaged the operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Bayelsa State Command, in a gun battle when they tried to stop them. The attacks were said to have occurred at Goulubukori manifold in Nembe and Lagosgbene pipeline in Southern Ijaw near Ekeremor area of Bayelsa. A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said a speedboat operated by NSCDC tried to dislodge the militants to save the pipelines. “The NSCDC engaged the saboteurs in a gun battle. There was a heavy exchange of gunfire between them. But the militants were heavily armed and many in number. They ensured that they destroyed the pipelines before leaving,” the source said. But another source from Agip, who did not want his name mentioned, described the attackers as “heavily armed youths”. He identified the damaged pipeline as the Tebidaba-Brass Agip pipeline, saying that the facility was destroyed at three different points. He said, “Reports from the swamp area indicate that last night and early hours of Friday morning, a gang of heavily armed youths with two double 200hp speedboats used explosives to destroy three different points on the Tebidaba-Brass Agip pipelines.” He further said Agip was about carrying out an operation to confirm the affected areas and the magnitude of damage done to the pipelines. It was learnt that the impacted areas were raging with fire and thick smoke while crude oil spilled from the ruptured pipeline was spreading around the environment. The Commandant, NSCDC, Bayelsa Command, Mr. Desmond Agu, confirmed the incident. Agu, who said his men exchanged gunfire with the attackers, urged youths to stop destroying their environment in the name of agitation. He noted that any attack on a pipeline was an attack on the future survival of the region. The Commandant stated, “We are not relenting because we have the mandate to protect all critical assets of the government within our areas of responsibility. “We are asking troublemakers to leave the creeks and embrace peace. There is no alternative to peace because without it there will be no development.” The Niger Delta Avengers claimed responsibility for the bombing of the Agip pipelines on Friday. In a statement from the NDA site, its spokesperson, ‘Brig.-Gen.’ Mudoch Agbinibo, said, “At about 3am and 5am the Niger Delta Avengers blew up Nembe 1, 2, 3 and Tebedaba Brass trunk-line in Bayelsa/River States. “We are using this medium to warn the general public of impostors Facebook accounts. Niger Delta Avenger is not in social network anymore.” The group has claimed responsibilities for almost all the attacks on pipelines and oil installations in the area. http://punchng.com/avengers-hit-bayelsa-bomb-agip-pipelines/ |
