BusinessRe: Nigeria Aims To Be World Largest Cocoa Producer by mariamadenle(m): 10:52am On Jan 15, 2017
Launcher:
Don't know how this is going to be achieved. I've been to Ikire in Osun state & seen how they load trucks of cocoa to Lagos everyday & I believe other places like Ikirun & co does in Osun alone, same with other states. The problem is the quality of this products.......most of them are rejected because of moistness & most farmers or merchants deliberately had dirt's & stones so the bags can weigh & transport to, police disturbs the trucks & collect 'roger' too. If the government can do something to curb these problems & sanction anyone who does & make the cocoa price stable, it would help a lot.

I know this cause my dad is a cocoa merchant & those are some of the problems they face
i think these are secondary problem, the main issue is the chemical residues in the final product which is measure in ppm sometime ppb (in Europe and America) hardly you will see a farmer that doesn't apply chemical whether directly (as in case of fertilizer) or indirectly (as insecticide or herbicide). these are the major problems I think

CrimePastor Cuts Off Wife’s Breast In Ibadan by mariamadenle(op): 1:59pm On Jan 10, 2017
Ola Ajayi, Ibadan
A 61 year old man, Adejare Adebayo who was identified as a pastor has been remanded in Agodi Prison Custody, Ibadan by a Magistrate Court for allegedly using a knife to cut off the breast of his wife. After cutting off the left breast of his wife, Mrs. Risikayat Adegbule aged 43, the excruciating pain allegedly led to the death of the woman after some days.
When he appeared before the Chief Magistrate F. Richard of court 2. Monday, the accused man pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge. The crime was allegedly committed at Onikankan Village, Ibadan on the eve of Christmas. Though yet to be ascertained, the man was quoted as saying that he cut the other affected breast because his dead wife had earlier suffered cancer in her left breast.

Education12 Things You Don't Know About Nigeria by mariamadenle(op): 9:06am On Apr 10, 2016
12 Things You didnt know
about Nigeria

1. Nigeria is home to seven percent (7%) of the total
languages spoken on earth. Taraba state alone has
more languages than 30 African countries. The
importance of this fact is appreciated when one
understands that language is the “soul of culture” (as
Ngugi wa Thiongo famously said). It is language that
births the proverbs, riddles, stories and other aspects of culture that give us identity. UNESCO puts forward that the world’s languages represents an extraordinary wealth of creativity. Linguistic diversity correlates with cultural diversity. This means Nigeria can look inwards and drive itself to become the greatest hub for cultural tourism on earth, and consequently empower its citizens tremendously in the process.

2. The Walls of Benin (800-1400AD), in present day Edo State, are the longest ancient earthworks in the world, and probably the largest man-made structure on earth. They enclose 6500 square kilometers of community lands that connected about 500 communities. At over 16000km long, it was thought to be twice the length of the Great Wall of China, until it was announced in 2012 (after five years of meticulous measurement by Chinese surveyors) that the Great Wall is about 21,000km long.

3. The Yoruba tribe has the highest rate of twin births in the world. Igbo-Ora, a little town in Oyo state, has been nicknamed Twin capital of the World because of its unusually high rate of twins that is put as high as 158 twins per 1000 births. In a video I watched last year on YouTube presented by Titi (a white lady who speaks Yoruba), and which was centred on twin births in Igbo- Ora, one of the locals boasted that every family in the town has at least one twin!

4. Sarki Muhammad Kanta The Great of Kebbi, was the
only ruler who resisted control by Songhai, West
Africa’s greatest empire at that time. He founded and
ruled the Hausa city-state of Kebbi around 1600 A.D
and built Surame its capital, a planned city which was
almost impossible to penetrate during war. In fact
UNESCO describes Surame as “one of the wonders of
human history, creativity and ingenuity”, and probably
the most massive stone-walled constructions in West
Africa. He is listed in Robin Walker’s 50 Greatest
Africans.

5. Africa’s oldest known boat is The Dufuna canoe
which was discovered in Dufuna village, Yobe state, by
a Fulani Herdsman in May 1987, while he dug a well.
Various radio-carbon tests conducted in laboratories of reputable universities in Europe and America indicate that the canoe is over 8,000 years old, thus making it the oldest in Africa and 3rd oldest in the world. The discovery of the canoe has completely changed accepted theories of the history and sophistication of marine technology in Africa.

6. Sungbo’s Eredo, a 160 km rampart equipped with
guard houses and moats, is reputed to be the largest
single pre-colonial monument (or ancient fortification if you like) in Africa. It is located in present-day Ijebu-
Ode, Ogun State and when it was built a millennium
ago, it required more earth to be moved during
construction than that used for building the Great
Pyramid of Giza (one of the Seven Wonders of The
Ancient World). The most astonishing thing is that
Sungbo’s Eredo was the biggest city in the world
(bigger than Rome and Cairo) during the Middle Ages
when it was built!

7. Sarki Abdullah Burja of Kano (ruled 1438-1452 AD),
the 18th ruler of Ancient Kano, created the first Golden
Age in Northern Nigeria and ushered in a period of great prosperity. During his reign, Hausa became the biggest indigenous language spoken in Africa after Swahili. He is on the list of 50
Greatest Africans in Robin Walker’s wonderful book,
“When We Ruled”.

8. The Jos Plateau Indigobird, a small reddish-brown
bird, is found nowhere else on the planet but Plateau
state, Nigeria.
9. The Anambra waxbill, a small bird of many beautiful
colours, is found only in Southern Nigeria and nowhere else on earth.

10. The Niger Delta (which is the second largest delta
on the planet), has the highest concentration of
monotypic fish families in the world, and is also home to sixty percent of Nigeria’s mangrove forests. You should know too that Nigeria’s mangrove forests are the largest in Africa and third largest on earth.

11. According to the World Resources Institute, Nigeria
is home to 4,715 different types of plant species, and
over 550 species of breeding birds and mammals,
making it one of the most ecologically vibrant places of the planet.

12. Ile-Ife, in present day Osun State, was paved as
early as 1000AD, with decorations that originated from
Ancient America suggesting there might have been
contact between the Yorubas and the Ancient
Americans half a millenium before Columbus
‘discovered’ America.

SportsChad Pull Out Of 2017 Africa Cup Of Nations Qualifiers by mariamadenle(op): 3:25pm On Mar 27, 2016
Chad have pulled out of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers due to financial restraints. Les Sao bowed to Tanzania on Wednesday and were billed to face the Taifa Stars for the return leg in Dar es Salaam. “As part of our participation in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers for Gabon 2017 and particularly the return match against Tanzania, we bring to your attention that our national team has failed to make it to the return leg game in Dar el Salaam scheduled for March 28,” said Moctar Mahamoud, secretary general of Chad Football Association. “Indeed, our country has been affected by the global economic conditions and because of this, our participation in various competitions has taken a serious blow due to financial constraints.” “We wish you all the best and we apologise for this situation which is basically independent of our will.” Chad sit at the base of Group G with no point from three defeats to Egypt, Nigeria and Tanzania, and according to Caf rules and regulations, their results will be nullified. With this, Egypt now have four points, Nigeria in second with two point while Tanzania have one point.

CrimeSuspects Snatch Bag Containing Fufu, Stew by mariamadenle(op): 8:39pm On Mar 14, 2016
The Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command says it has arrested three suspected teenage robbers for snatching a handbag containing wraps of fufu and beef stew. The RRS said the suspects specialised in snatching valuables, using motorcycles, aka okada-snatch-and-run . It was gathered that the suspects – Daniel Dali, 19; Emmanuel Ashaolu, 17; and Bright Ikenna Bright, 17 – were arrested on Friday at 10.48pm in the Ajegunle area by a team of RRS men on patrol. Dali, an okada rider from Cotonu, and Ashaolu were said to have snatched a handbag from a yet-to-be identified lady. However, unknown to them, the bag contained two wraps of fufu and stew. It was learnt that their victim shouted for help, which prompted the RRS team to pursue the duo, leading to the arrest of Ashaolu, while Dali escaped. The RRS commander, Tunji Disu, said the RRS team mobilised a decoy team, who combed the area, leading to the arrest of Dali, the okada rider, and Ikenna. He said, “At the suspects’ apartment, two other roommates were arrested, but were later released after cross-examination by RRS officials.” However, Dali said he started the business of okada-snatch-and-run in April 2015. He said, “My mother’s death forced me into robbery. My mother gave me everything I wanted. After her death, I had no helper. “Bright and I have been to four operations. In one of our outings, we snatched a recharge card worth N35,000. He sold it and gave me only N5,000. We don’t use guns; we have never operated with guns. We snatch valuables and escape on an okada. “We have our routes. They are Boundary, Mile 2, New Roundabout, Wilma and Ajegunle. The okada we use was bought for me by a lady. I pay her in instalment. I have paid N75,000 out of N300,000.” Ikenna said he had operated with the gang seven times. He said, “Several boys do this business in Ajegunle. I know of a team, which live in different hotels, sleep in day time and operate at night. This is the only job they do to survive.” The state police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, said the suspects had been transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation. She said the suspects had given information that would lead to the arrest of more members of the gang.
