I found myself discussing 9ja's cumbersome visa policy with a Nigerian embassy staff one day.

He was adamant that millions of people apply for 9ja visa yearly, that what you (yours truly) know, that he's the one who knows as an embassy staff.

I told him the visitors figures/statistics are out there and that compared to even Kenya, 9ja is nowhere. Despite our size, population, endowment, diversity, culture, etc. The olodo didn't get it. He said Europeans charge Nigerians a lot for their visas and Nigeria is doing great by reciprocating. Empty pride.

I reminded him that the cost of a Nigeria multiple visa for some Europeans, is enough to buy a ticket to Morocco and pay for hotel for the weekend. No visa. Yet Moroccans need visas to much of Europe. Moreover, visitors to 9ja mostly have some 9ja family/marriage ties. Or are expatriates or for business that largely economically favour them more than 9ja.

That is before you even factor the 9ja insecurity factor in.

I insisted Nigeria should not always react emotionally to Western policies, but in a calculated way to take money from Europeans via tourism.

Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania have long introduced a common visa arrangement for tourists.

I don't need a visa to Morocco, Tunisia or even Uganda. But if had to present a 9ja document, I would need visas to all. They have cleverly exempted Western tourists bringing hard currencies.

Morocco gets well over 7% of its GDP from tourism. They don't have much natural resources.

So you're saying that we should throw or doors open for them to enter anytime they like without any visa policies and restrictions simply because we want to boost our tourism figures and earn more dollars.

Wizkid crashed his Porsche but instead of repairing it he preferred to replace the car which is understandable, Runtown's car on the other hand broke down probably because he had been ignoring regular oil change due to the cost.
