The Tokyo Olympic Organising Committee on Monday recommended the inclusion of five additional sports to the 2020 games. They are baseball-softball, karate, surfing, sport climbing and skateboarding. The five sports, if accepted by the International Olympic Committee, would add 18 competitions and 474 athletes to the programme for the 2020 summer Olympic Games, the committee said. The committee made the recommendation from a choice of eight sports where bowling, squash and wushu did not make the cut. The IOC will make a final decision on including the sports for 2020 next August in Rio de Janeiro, prior to the 2016 Games. |
Recently, designers presented a project of floating private island named Kokomo Ailand. This futuristic place proves there’s no such thing as “over-the-top” in the world of superyacht design. Kokomo Ailand will consist of a penthouse, a helipad, jungle deck with a waterfall and an alfresco dining area. It will be the first island in the world to move under its own power. Owners of the island will be amazed by 360-degree views within the penthouse, accessible by an 80-metre elevator. Around the complex, residents would find a spa, a gym, beauty salons, bars and a pool. The inclusion of vertical gardens, palm trees and even a shark-feeding station add more natural elements to the nautical island. The movable paradise would be perfect for a high-class hotel or company headquarters. Kokomo Ailand could be built in the near future. “We are currently negotiating with several clients who are very interested in the project," Christian Gumpold, managing director of Migaloo Private Submersible Yachts, said.

Following conflicting reports on the number of Nigerians who died during the Mecca stampede, President Buhari has directed the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and the Nigerian Embassy in Saudi Arabia to account for all Nigerian pilgrims. This was revealed by the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Shehu Garba, who took to his Facebook wall to drop the message. Below is the statement by Shehu Garba: President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the National Hajj Commission and the Nigerian Embassy in Saudi Arabia to urgently account for all Nigerian pilgrims in the aftermath of last Thursday’s disaster at Mina. President Buhari is very concerned that days after the unfortunate incident, some Nigerian families are still grappling with painful uncertainty over the fate of their relatives who traveled to Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajj. The President expects the National Hajj Commission to work with the various state pilgrim boards, Islamic organisations and private travel agencies involved in Hajj operations to speedily provide a confirmed and verifiable report on the status of every Nigerian pilgrim in Saudi Arabia. President Buhari has also directed the Hajj Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nigerian Embassy in Saudi Arabia to give all necessary assistance to Nigerians who are still receiving treatment for injuries suffered in Mina. He continues to pray that Almighty Allah will receive the souls of the dead, comfort bereaved families, heal the injured and bring all surviving Nigerian pilgrims safely home. NAHCON has confirmed the death of 54 Nigerians from the stampede in Mina, Saudi Arabia. According to the chairman of NAHCON, Alhaji Abdullahi Muktar Mohammed, 42 out of the 54 that died were from states pilgrims welfare board including two officials of the commission, while others were among those on the pilgrimage by private tour operators.
