If you've ever wanted to cast spells like Harry Potter and his friends, Google has added some features on Android phones to help you do it. The company announced on its blog on Tuesday that it's partnering with the film "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" — based on the book by "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling — to add some new, magical capabilities for fans. By saying "OK Google" and then "Lumos," your flashlight will turn on; "Nox" turns it off. You can also say "OK Google" and "Silencio" to turn off your ringer and notifications. The features are already activated on phones — no update needed. In the "Harry Potter" films and books, the spell "Lumos" turns the characters' wands into flashlights, while "Silencio" silences people. Google is also adding a few other "Fantastic Beasts"-inspired features across its other products. It will now let users look around the world of the film — set in 1920s New York City — through Google Street View; a "Fantastic Beasts" sticker pack is coming to Google's new messaging app, Allo; and starting this month, you can use the new Daydream View virtual reality headset to explore the world of one of the characters from the film, which is in theaters November 18. martartins..com culled from businessinsider |

The funny thing about democracy is that you can actually be guilty hiding under the ambit of the law. When your cover is blown, you cry foul and aim to be the victim of abuse of democratic process. Have you ever wondered why nobody cares about due process when it comes to charging a common criminal, and cry foul when Federal Judges who are supposed to uphold our political institutions are charged with corruption? Did the DSS have a search warrant to invade the judges homes at that time and is it constitutional as well as, did they come with a search warrant? According to them they did, and they are backed by law, as you can make a search at anytime of the day provided the search warrant was signed by a judge, in this case the CJN. But an arrest can only be made from 6:00am -6:00pm at any given day. So why did they make the arrest at that hour and what did they find that encouraged them to make an arrest at that time of the night, have to be proven in court. Is it a political witch hunt, considering the fact that 3 of the judges are igbos, 1 from south south and the other from south west? In fact one of them from the igbo faction is next in line to be appointed Chief Justice Of The Nigeria. Do i perceive i political shaking up in progress, lets keep watching as events unfold. One thing am sure tired of is parading suspects on the pages of newspaper. If you should ask me, i would say with the level of corruption in this country, extreme measures needs to be used without violating anybodys right- Be it commando or rambo style! martartins..com.ng |

Education has always being at the forefront of most government of the worlds economic plans, as well as Nigerias. But over the years most foreign countries have allocated as much as 20% of their budgetary allocation for the year to education. Same cannot be said of Nigeria, who contributes a paltry 5% to its education sector and a further 2% petroleum tax from oil companies to textiary institutions in the country. That is a topic for another day. The foundation of basic education has always been the primary school sector, where children are inculcated into the rudiments of intensive learning. Giving the local government primary responsibility of taking care of public primary school is a good development, but over the years that function has being abused. From the late payment of salaries and the accumulation of unpaid salaries and bonuses, coupled with the incessant change of adminstration within the local government has all but deter the performance of most public primary school and their optimal functionality. Every government who comes in power have a way of changing the education policy because it is usually said " he who pays the piper dictates the tune." it is more easier for politicians to do that than to tackle inflation, unemployment and taxes which are all delicate issues, therefore education and health sectors are preferably toiled with. Aside payment of salaries, local governments should be able to provide public primary schools with basic developmental facilities like a libary, IT center where children can learn about computers at a very young age and in house health facility as well as providing condusive learning environment. We cannot continue to pour all the blame on our textiary institutions for churning out "half-baked graduates" when our foundation is very shaky. Government on their own part should follow the rule of law in order to have stability and consistency in local government in other to make them thrive and perform their primary functions. Politics should not be allowed to ruin our lives and the lives of our children. http://martartins..com.ng/2016/10/local-government-and-public-primary.html |

aresssa:it can be argued that TSA made them no to have cash to give enough loans |
http://martartins..com.ng/2016/09/is-treasury-single-account-really-cause.html Yesterday i came across this statement from distinguished senators of our federal republic about the TSA(Treasury Single Account). According to theses Senators Bassey Akpan (PDP Akwa Ibom North East), Samuel Anyanwu (PDP Imo East) and Mao Ohuabunwa (PDP Abia North), called for a re-think by the federal government on the implementation of the TSA as, according to them, it is one the factors that triggered the recession. He said between August and November last year, as a result of the implementation of the policy, about N1.8 trillion was withdrawn from the banking system, which increased to N2.8 trillion in January this year and N3.4 trillion now , leading to drastic reduction in lending capacities of the commercial banks with attendant effect on the country’s economy. Before we delve further, let us re-visit what the TSA is all bout before considering how much it might have effected the recession we are currently facing. This piece will be in two parts. 1. TSA refers to Treasury Single Account, a public accounting system using a single account, or a set of linked accounts by government to ensure all revenue receipts and payments are done through a Consolidated Revenue Account (CRA) at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). 2. The pilot TSA scheme commenced in 2012 using a unified structure of accounting for 217 government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, for accountability and transparency in public fund management. 3. All government MDAs remit their revenue collections to the CRA through their individual commercial banks on a fee-for-service remuneration basis. 4. Although all monies earned by the federal government through value added tax (VAT), customs duties, immigration and other charges, are supposed to be paid into the CRA, a few exceptions border on accounts operated by joint venture partners with government, like oil mining leases (OMLs) in the oil and gas industry. 5. Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) are allowed to maintain revenue collection accounts for MDAs, but all collections must be remitted to the CRA at the end of every banking day; that is MDAs’ accounts with DMBs must be at zero balance at the end of every banking day. 6. TSA allows government banking to be unified, to enable the relevant stakeholders, such as the Ministry of Finance and Accountant General of the Federation to have full oversight of all cash flows across different bank accounts. 7. The different TSA account types include main account; subsidiary or sub-account; transaction account; zero balance account; imprest account; transit and correspondence accounts for different transaction purposes. 8. TSA helps check incidence of multiple accounts operated by government MDAs for collection and spending of government revenues. 9. TSA will ensure adequate monitoring of government revenue receipts and expenditures and block leakages, as no MDA is allowed to keep any operational bank account. 10. TSA will help check incidence of idle cash lying over extended periods in bank accounts held by spending MDAs, while government continues to borrow to execute its budgets. 11. Under TSA, DMBs using public sector funds deposited by MDAs to make free profits will not be possible. 12. To pay money under TSA, depositors make payment to a transit account in a commercial bank and the funds are automatically remitted to the CRA in the CBN at regular intervals, say at the end of the business day or at more frequent intervals 13. Payments through the TSA follow an electronic system, with direct payments or deposits to the bank account of the beneficiary MDA. 14. MDAs registered on the electronic payment platform, or CBN Payment Gateway, through the Settlement Centre, Funds Department, Office of the Accountant General of the Federation are granted access to funds collected on their behalf at the CBN. 15. The TSA scheme covers all MDAs as well as other institutions and parastatals that collect revenues and monies payable to FGN, including all forms of receipts, refunds, operating surpluses, transfers, donations, over-payment, taxes and customs duties, etc. |
You lose an argument when you take it personal or try to discredit the fellow debater. With all his experrience, why is FFK not in any political appointment now. |
When we critically look at the recent judgements of our Judicial courts, one is poised to ask; why the contradicting judgement from the Sheriff/Makarfi PDP chairmanship lead judgement, to Ikpeazu/Ogah led battle for the Abia State Governorship seat unto Giwa/Pinnick tussle for the NFF presidency? The answer cannot be far fetched. They are the scapegoats of the politicking that goes on in the executive and legislative arm of government. Come to think of it, are they not the only arm that was not duly elected by the electorate? Every other arm was elected by the citizenry, why not the Judiciary? Well, lawyers will say theirs is a defined field where integrity is the order of business. Why does it still hold that a law degree is a prerequisite for astute foray into politics? Forgive my questions, am not a lawyer. I just want to be enlightened. The NUJ recommends qualified individuals to the president to appoint and most times these appointments are politically motivated by party affiliation. So here goes my question again. If you can see my worry, is not possible for a man who is appointed by party affiliation, by the same man, who pays his salary to be influenced? The odds don't seem to favour him to perform his duties without bias and this same analogy goes for both the state Justices. Don't get me wrong am not advocating for Justices to start soliciting for votes in other to be named Chief Justice of the federation. I just feel their hands are tied when it comes to putting their primary objective at the forefront of things. A bill should be sponsored by the house revoking the power of the President to appoint the CJN. That is my humble opinion. Visit martartins..com for more...... |

Great leaders share many qualities — courage, inspiration, relatability, business acumen — all critical for leading in a particular moment or phase of a company’s growth. But one quality distinguishes “leaders of the moment” from truly great leaders. Great leaders develop other great leaders. They don’t create clones, mind you, but instead mentor individuals who possess their own unique management styles, individual strengths, and the ability to redefine success for new contexts. Many companies claim that people are their greatest asset, so what a leader does with that human capital speaks volumes. Great leaders are not intimidated by others’ successes. They encourage those around them to grow, take risks, fail intelligently, and succeed thoughtfully so that the company can evolve whenever the current leader retires, transitions to a new role, or changes careers. A leader’s performance will always be partially judged on near-term results. But how the company performs after a leader’s departure creates a longer-term impact on share price and sustainability. For better or worse, leaders cast long shadows. Some — often those who capture the biggest headlines — excel at short-term delivery but leave a dearth of leadership and excess churn when they depart. Increasingly, boards are looking at the ability to develop future talent when considering candidates for positions across the top tiers of a company. We live in uncertain times and chaotic markets. So while a candidate’s business performance numbers are certainly important, his or her ability to mentor the company’s next generation of leaders can create equal value and more sustainable performance. By all accounts, the late Steve Jobs was one of America’s great business leaders, and he was a good friend and mentor to the current Apple CEO, Tim Cook. Jobs handpicked Cook to become the next CEO and groomed him for that role. In the book Becoming Steve Jobs , Cook recounted Jobs’ sentiment on Apple’s leadership. Jobs had seen what happened when Walt Disney passed away, and there was no leader ready to take over the reins. No one wanted to make important decisions without the guidance of their esteemed leader. The business was paralyzed as people tried to answer, “What would Walt have done?” In recent years, this same paralysis has hit other prominent organizations, such as eleganza Nig ltd needed to bring Razak Akanni Okoya out of retirement because no one else was truly ready to lead the company as CEO. For boards and investors, that’s a huge red flag about a company’s future. At Apple’s memorial service for Jobs, Cook shared some of the final advice Jobs gave him. He said Jobs him never to ask what he would do, but to “just do what’s right.” That’s a telling statement. Instead of turning Cook into the “next” Steve Jobs — which would have been an impossible task — Jobs focused on his protégé’s strengths and allowed him to develop into the best leader he could possibly be. Despite their different management styles, Apple has continued to thrive — for now. When Cook took over as CEO in 2011, the company’s stock price was $53.74. Today, it’s hovering around $100 a share. At the 10th annual D: All Things Digital conference, Cook told the audience that Jobs taught him not to focus on the past, but to be future-focused. Being future-focused includes developing a company’s future leaders. No CEO or other executive will be around forever. In an era of rapid change, geopolitical uncertainty, and constant disruption, no single leader’s style can or should be cloned. Rather, companies create their best hedge against uncertainty by developing the next generation of leaders and leveraging their individual strengths, views, and experiences. That mindset is the sign of a truly great leader. Visit martartins..com for more........ |
