Ubenedictus: Abraham isn't about making stupid demands, it was a command that was never going to be carried out, it was a foreshadowing of what God himself will do to show his love for us.
he will give us his son, his only son who he loves, he himself will provide the Lamb, the true sacrifice, it wasn't about Issac is was about Jesus. If what you say is true (which I know it isn't), then yahweh is petty as Bleep. |

butterflyl1on: With each new answer you give you keep adding extras.
First you said it was through reasoning, intuition and your senses.
Next you added logic
Now you are adding moral compass which you claim is "biologically ingrained" in us.
It's like you are not even sure how you arrived at your position because all I see are confused and unsure words coming from you
I already cancelled out reasoning, logic, senses and intuition from your list so let's deal with your "biologically ingrained" moral compass shall we?
Let's start from the very beginning. Emotions are said to be intangible until when expressed so in a nutshell, emotions cannot be proven until when acted upon. Until we act on what we are impressed upon to feel then our emotions do not exist. Morality is the expression of our emotions.
How could our very origin of no control and no meaning, bring about something as meaningful as emotional expression or even controlled emotions which result in our morality or lack of?
Saying morality is biological is like saying the universe is the earth. It is a non sequitur. see, I might be adding as they skipped my mind earlier. I repeat 1) sit down and relax 2) apply your reasoning, logic, intuition, common sense and senses. Also use your moral compass which is biologically ingrained in us. Now I want you to tell me how you know that you know what you know? |

Or was this not your claim when you said and I quote
You said all you needed to do was sit down and think so can you guide me through the process you used when THINKING that made it an infallible one which caused you to arrive at truth and to also believe that your view of the world IS AS IT SHOULD BE? process : 1) sit down and relax 2) apply your reasoning, logic, intuition, common sense and senses. Also use your moral compass which is biologically ingrained in us. Now I want you to tell me how you know that you know what you know? |

butterflyl1on: Now logic comes into play. How are you sure that your intuition is right?
Not all facts are tangible so our "senses" are limited to their perception hence not reliable.
So how sure are you about your senses and Intuition. Intuition is often fueled by experiences and since experiences vary from person to person so is the likelihood of intuition.
How did you arrive at the perfection of yours which led you to truth and that your view of the world is true? logic, intuition, reasoning and the senses. My former lost is in complete. Answer my own. |

And living amongst predominately traditional worshippers albeit in Lagos, you might imagine what it was like telling an Egungun, a supposed spirit from the dead, "Sikiru, if you dare touch me with that your whip, I will tear off you spirit dress! Spirit from the dead my ass!". A recipe for not having lots of friends I recall.
The adults were not much better with their constant beatings to try to make one believe as they do. I guess if I'd kept quiet I wouldn't have got beat up so much. But I was never lonely. I spent my time reading. You'd be amazed how one can invoke spirit into characters in a book.
I was fortunate in not having my mind polluted by my parents and was brought up to question. I became an atheist at 12, so I guess I have loads of practise. lucky you bro. At least you started early but I started at 20 as an atheist. Wasted my teenage years reading and memorising the bible, couldn't date my dream girl because of church doctrines and being too spiritual. If only I had sat down earlier to think. All I needed was to sit down and think. It is well bro, seeing the world as it is and knowing the truth brings freedom. |

corpershun: Wow...what I know deep down is that Christianity is not a religion...We (human beings) chose to clarify it as such. Christianity is a way of life... The people at Antioch saw the way the disciples behaved like Christ and called them Christians.
This in a nutshell, Christianity is being Christ-Like, How was Jesus Christ like? He was Loving, compassionate, tenderhearted, would give his life for others, would not let his neighbor suffer hunger, would suffer not the little children...I could go on and on.
Now to the video I just watched, I am delta so I talk from my interaction with igbo Christians who still believe in Osu, who believe in not allowing their kids marry other tribes because of ancient strife... Just to mention a few.
If 90% of Christians are really Christ-Like and not religious, the world would be a better place. And not to start any war il rather be a Christian than be of any other thing.
Besides op this is front-page worthy, stumbled on it cos I was stalking Se-un's posts.

johnydon22: My journey have been weird or perhaps an incessant evolution that have seen my faiths and doubts dashed against cold hard truths of reality. I have questioned everything i know at every turn, i have been arrogant in my ignorance, condescending in my teachings, aggressive in my defense, unteachable in my debates - I was a young atheist, i just newly agreed or found out that i didn't believe in God.
Yes it was a lonely journey.
First i had lots of questions, when i asked people recoiled away from me, they feared to answer. My questions were daring and true, i yearned so hard for someone to bring forth answers that could satisfy this curiosity.
the world was changing right before my eyes and nobody else around me could see this change.
I lost awe in the faith of creation by "let there be light" it suddenly was not sufficient enough, it could not account for the depth and intricacies of the world around.
they must be more, they had to be more.
I'd throw subtle questions at Papa, Mama, Siblings, friends or anyone else that i could. ever careful to mask the full intent of my questions to avoid the possibility of an inevitable backlash.
"Why do you think God started to create the world?" I'd ask "Do you really think humans are just clay sculptures given breath by God?"
"Don't question God, John" Papa would say with a glaring look that discouraged me from any further questions that danced on the edge of blasphemy.
It wasn't enough, there must be more to it than just this. But i was alone in my thoughts.
The courage of my questions were met with strict castigation. You are playing with fire young man.
I recoiled to my shell, spent more time alone. Prayed and read and for a moment i found a perfect blend between God and me, between my quest to know and my faith.
Gradually i began to see a different God. gradually God became more for me than just a divine wrath seeking undiluted retribution and piety. God became more than a divine authority ready to dose out punishment at will. God became more than a constant reminder of my vulnerabilities as a human. became more than an authority i had to appease at every turn for my constant transgressions. God became more than a cosmic need for incessant praise. I lost faith in the logic that suggests i had to apologize everyday just for being human. I made nonsense of the doctrine that thinks i was dragged into a test for no reason at all. I refused to be a living condemnation over a supposed transgression at the beginning of creation.
But no one else saw this God with me.
I tried to paint a picture of this God but i'd get a cold stare, a fearful snub or a threatening admonition.
I was in the middle of a crowd, in the middle of loved ones but i was alone. My mind was filled up and ran over, i pined to share, i was nearing my limit and i felt i'd burst any minute.
Nobody could hear me scream, they shushed and snubbed.
My questions became even bolder. Became even more daring and if you will more courageous.
I dared to question the existent of God himself.
My mind lacked substance for God might be or what God is. The role of God in the cosmos was lost to me. There was more to everything than this earth, the stage was too grand for us.
I was losing my mind as well as losing God - perhaps because people told me that i was.
I tried to hold on but i was slipping.
I found holes in almost every word the preacher says. I could give him ten reasons why i thought he was wrong for every time he implied to know the mind of God.
I argued with evangelists. challenged Jehovah witnesses - Got an angry or pitiful look in return each time.
My loneliness was slowly turning into a burning need to challenge the status quo. To reach into everyone's mind and challenge their beliefs. But a pinch of fear lingered on when i was in the middle of loved ones.
So even though great many others knew what i had turned into, even though i already carved out a reputation among preachers as 'That intelligent boy that the devil is using'
i couldn't bring myself to show my family just who i was. How could i ever bring out myself as the "tool of the devil" before their eyes.
A lost soul. fallen from grace.
That would kill mama, papa would literally send me out.
So before them, my piety was intact. I said every decade of rosary with that loud doubt, every mystery represented a question i hoped they would listen to and answer.
My loneliness persisted.
Finding succor only on the internet that became a pronounced part of my world during these times. I was fascinated by friends that shared my thoughts, friends i never met before, friends without face or voice but they gave me a little hint that i was not alone..
I am ranting now maybe i should cut this short.... The journey is very long I don't feel lonely. |
Christianity Etc › Obedience Of Abraham. What Was The Purpose? by Martinez19(op): 6:58pm On Mar 05, 2018*. Modified: 10:27am On Mar 06, 2018 |
The writers of the bible were smart psychologists and had profound knowledge of human nature and human condition for people of their. Unfortunately, their insights were used to deceive their fellow man. Abraham was asked by yahweh to sacrifice his son (a ridiculous request to any sane person) and he obeyed. Just when he was about to kill Isaac, God stopped him and provided a sheep for sacrifice. The story didn't stop there, it even went further that yahweh blessed Abraham for his faith and later on, he was deemed a hero of faith. What was insanity and naivety on Abraham's part became a virtue. SMH The purpose of this story, in my opinion as it's obvious to me, was to subtly and subconsciously programme people to take pride in obeying stupid instructions as long as it is yahweh's command. Since in reality, there is no god that speaks to people directly and the main method of "hearing" yahweh is through a clergy(charlatan), the story of Abraham gives the clergy the avenue to manipulate the people to carry out his instructions no matter how silly it sounds. The instructions, of course, are usually selfish and crafty ones eg, "Yahweh said I should tell you to give the church your land", "Yahweh said you should sell all your properties and give them to the church or temple", "yahweh said you should sow your car into my life" etc. Scam of this order wasn't uncommon back in the days but today, it is losing it's grip - - - thanks to hypocrisy where everyone can dismiss a clergy by saying "his not a true man of yahweh.", "yahweh can't say a thing like that", etc. Na so. In summary, Abraham's faith story is just a subtle and indirect way to get people to readily obey stupid instructions in the name of yahweh and glory in it. Career › Re: Victor Ifeanyichukwu Ede, UNIPORT Graduate Who Drives Keke Napep For A Living by Martinez19(m): 3:41pm On Mar 03, 2018 |
Each time I see this, I laugh at the wickedness of our leaders and stupidity of the masses. The fact that graduates turn to menial jobs to fend for themselves shows that the country has failed. Whether one likes it or not, the government is supposed to be the primary and major player in job creation and our government has failed in this area. Instead of the masses to call the government to order in a revolution, we fold our arms shouting "learn a skill", "God help us", "Our lives are in God's hand", "god has a plan for us", "pray for our leaders, let God touch their hearts", "God's will be done", "enterpreship is the way", "create a job" etc.
Many people won't understand the need to fight corrupt leaders until they are at the receiving end of the rot that the government has descended on our nation. Not everyone is cut out to be an entrepreneur or business man, many people need real jobs. Imagine if world greatest scientists where business men because of harsh economical situation, major contributions would have been lost for ever. |

@Rachealoduah, go to the neuropsychiatric clinic at yaba and you will see christians, muslims and godless people with all sort of mental problems. I remember walking in there and I saw a woman who was publicly displaying her lunacy. The woman was shouting out holy scriptures, her husband was there with his own mental problem and it was their daughter who happened to be the only child trying to put things together. The daughter is probably still a teenager. What kind of God folds his arm a let that happen? Do you think that if you were the woman you wouldn't have suffered that? Stop looking at only your life, go out and look at others that are suffering and having one problem or the other.
Do you think that if we're among the church members at uyo where a church collapsed, your case would have been different? Is there anything you have that those people didn't? Do you know that since the history of medicine, no case has it that prayer and faith cured an illness? |

Rachealoduah: Hmm,just as I thought, you served God for what you could get from him,not necessarily because you love him or you see him as one worthy of your service, you don't expect him to reveal himself to you when your service to him is tied to conditions. All this questions and wrong notions are things the holy spirit reveals to you even without asking,I don't want to answer them cause I know you won't still believe, its like a waste of time.Anyway I didn't come to with you, the reason I came back is to apologize to the way I replied you earlier, its so Antichrist like despite the fact you caused it by calling me things I'm not.I'm sorry Apology accepted. You got one thing wrong tho, I never served yahweh for what I gained from him, i never implied it in my post. I left christianity because it fails logic, critical reasoning, and it is inconsistent with reality. It became obvious to me that christianity doesn't make sense. The price some people pay for indulging in organised magic thinking is the vulnerable to mental slavery, exploitation, missed life opportunities and the wastage of one's life in services to these things. I was once like you, so zealous and devoted but as I grew and reasoned things out, it was clear to me that religion, voodoo, witchcraft, spells and curses, charms, incantations and other world mysticism are ridiculous garbage. I wish someone told me earlier. You might think there is a holy spirit talking to you but it's just your emotions and intuition. Worse, auditory hallucination. Men have been speaking to god for centuries yet no one has been told the cure for hiv. Perhaps you can ask God for me. Good bye. |
