GidiCars: Yes, I'm certain I followed the right steps. I think it's cause my laptop doesn't have a GPU cause I found from the requirements that TF requires a GPU to run. Maybe that's why it's not working. I'm thinking of getting another laptop by the end of January. I don't have a gpu either, but mine works fine, there are 2 versions, for a gpu enabled system and otherwise, you didn't install the gpu version, did you? |

GidiCars: I suppose you've read this book since you have it. I'm currently on the second module and I'm having issues installing TensorFlow. I've installed Microsoft C++ distribution, and have added the installation to path but it's still not working. I've had this issue since yesterday.
Do you know any work around this? Thanks. What ide is this?I use anaconda and conda for installing libraries cos it handles the installation of the libraries and it's dependencies,I'm guessing you don't use anaconda(it's recommended though). Try uninstalling tensorflow and reinstalling it in a virtual environment (venv) cos tensorflow doesn't work like other libraries. |

What's happening in the background. Is it a measure or a column?it looks like a calculated column to me.....I might be wrong though........well, the first statement in the if block is the condition that should evaluate to true or false ,the second is what happens if the condition evaluates to true ,and the third is what happens when it evaluates to false. I think he/she is just trying to avoid a Divisionbyzeroerror. |

On the front page, there's a link called "latest news", clicking on it takes you to a page where the latest news and their time of appearance on the front page is attached to the news link, that should be the "frontpage date",clicking the news link takes you to the news article's page itself, and the first post's date is the "posteddate". I'm sure you can work your way around the HTML using this description. |

KlausMichaelson: Good day House.
I really need someone to enlighten me in the real application of Data Analysis in real life. I mean, I actually know how to provide a good Visualization for any Data, I can use the different functions in Excel to an extent. I can use the Statistical Analysis part of it especially when trying to analyze a typical student's project.
But my Question is, "is that all?" Come to think of it, if I actually get employed as a Data analyst, Do I just need to provide a Visualization for the company to see how far different factors(Demand, supply bla bla) are playing out at the end of the month?
I honestly don't get the whole thing. The only application I have come to Realize so far is based on Visualization and Statistical Analysis only. Or is the Statistical Analysis all that matters? Things like ANOVA, REGRESSION, CORELATION etc??
Please can someone tell me the real application of Data Analysis in real life. I'm very much confused. Thank you. I kinda feel like data is really just noise, data analysis involves extracting the hidden information within a set of related (or seemingly unrelated)data,in order to make guided decisions in a particular setting. |

Oddy16: I will suggest to immerse yourself in fundamental statistics, linear algebra and if possible, a little bit of Calculus(Chain rule)
Udacity has a lot of free courses on intro to statistics, ML and DL. Although you can't get a certificate, but learning it is the important part. If you can brave it, try Andrew Ng's Machine Learning course on Coursera, that's the gold standard. You can audit the course for free. You will learn all the math and stat behind ML but I will advise you have a good foundation before you try that course. Another deal breaker is that he teaches the course with MATLAB/Octave, but not to worry, if you can grasp that, you can implement it using Numpy. The course will teach you how to build ML from scratch and not just to import modules.
You can also Calculus course on Coursera by UPenn. You can audit for free.
Do not let the math and stat scare you anyway. The beginning is the hardest. You can do so much on ML if you can grasp how to build it from scratch.
N.B: Please DO NOT believe that it doesn't make sense learning ML because you are in Nigeria. Thanks sir |
Programming › Re: Chronicle Of A Data Scientist/analyst by Marveaux(m): 9:04am On Aug 14, 2020 |
ibromodzi: Wow! Someone here thinks data only revolves around analytics. Do you know what it takes to be a data scientist? You won't know what's special about ML/DL untill automation starts penetrating every sector of IT (you can educate yourself on this by reading about openAI and GPT3)
Well, different people with different orientation and perspectives.
The only issue I have with your assertions is you talking about what you don't know.
You can't talk about DS without mentioning ML/DL. Even ML is a level of statistical analysis (predictive analytics).
And you must know that no company will give you a data science role/project without a good knowledge of ML/DL. The earlier you know this, the better for you.
DS is more than using tools. Anyone can learn to use any software, no matter how sophisticated you may think it is. What differentiates a data scientist from any other person is their foundational knowledge of all these concepts. Kind sir, please do you know any books I can read to have a good theoretical knowledge of ML/DL?Not books about Data science as related to ML/DL(i.e python libraries),but more of the concepts of ML/DL as a whole. Thanks. |

tplayer: 1- Excel(and relatives/natives like pivot table, power query(you can skip the M language in it), learn to create dashboards with excel(because what a lot of business people know is excel and excel is everywhere; power bi is d shiny kid getting lots of love now, and for good reasons), learn formulas and array formulas. Once u understand how cell referencing works, excel becomes easy. 1.5- power pivot (or just move to 2) 2-power bi(please learn data modelling here, please please learn how to use d dax language to create calculated columns, measures, time intelligence so you can stand out. power query and power pivot are still here too. Note that tableau can replace power bi too. These 2 are d most popular. 3. - involve urself in d statistical aspect of what you are learning. Using tools without knowing d statistics is not complete. after all data science, forger d sexy name, is basically statistics, some pure mathematics, cimputer science, and common sense. Please read all you can about probability, distributions, Central limit theorem, experimental design, ANOVA, manova, correlation, regression, Exploratory data analysis(e.g make sure you know all about d box plot, not just how to plot it), parametric and non parametric test, post-hoc tests. etc. Baba if you try all d things here, u are already a small boss. 4- Python or R, you choice (to implement 3, and even parts of 1 and 2. They are d languages of data.
5-Now, advance statistics and calculus( For MACHINE LEARNING!!!!!! which can be implemented using python or R.) You can start machine learning by using clicks and libraries before you go under d hood. machine learning no be beans sha o and its not just simple regression. But its learnable.
6. this has no number really. insert SQL anywhere after 2.
7- PRACTICE. PRACTICE. PRACTICE!!!
If all you want is mainly extraction, cleaning, munging, visualisation of data, and creating a shiny(apologies to R guys) dashboard, A simple knowledge of statistics may do it. Excel, Power bi and SQL will do.
To become a real data scientist aka machine expert, statistics, maths, must come in.
please, I put dis together in a hurry. others here should please chime in. Wow thanks so much for this. Finally someone has put everything in perspective and laid down a roadmap for learning. Thanks again |

tplayer: Good one! Yes Excel is broad. Don't give up on it; learn it, its quite powerful and it's the go-to tool for some tasks. Many so-called data scientist or analyst don't know it and it's bad. Power BI should go next, IMHO. With just Excel and Power BI, u are already productive. And pandas? With the way most of you guys are emphasizing on Excel and sql, it's beginning to sound as if pandas is useless for data analysis and I've been wasting my time for the past month learning it |

Ejiod: Truth be told guys. There are more offers for Data Analyst in Nigeria and in the world generally than Data Scientist . Real life business world is beyond importing data or running model and evaluating such model. Like I said most businesses need insights to their problems. Very well. It’s very important you understand and implement simple or complex supervised learning most especially Regression models and also the KNN model when it comes to clustering. It gives you that edge. To my point. It’s easier to see offer as an analyst than data scientist because this field is still at infant stage in Nigeria. However these skills sets you above your fellow; 1. SQL: When I mean sql it’s not that SELECT * most peeps are doing. I’m talking advanced sql 2. Excel: in-fact deep in it 3. Tableau and power BI: Not drag and drop. You using Calculated fields and DAX syntax 4.Python or R 5.Pandas if you are on python 6. Machine learning. Please don’t stress yourself on deep learning. Just take that time and learn SQL well well.
Some may not know that both powerBI and Tableau can implement machine learning model.
Finally you all can try using pycaret. It makes your machine learning much simpler with just few lines of code. In all learn all that’s linked to data. It’s very helpful. Good day sir, I've noticed you stress 'SQL' a lot in some of your posts,I just wanted to know, can't basic sql knowledge be augmented with a sound knowledge in pandas? PS:forgive my naivety |
