Sports / Kane Vows Spurs Aren't Out Of Title Race by marvin123(m): 7:12am On Feb 25, 2019
Harry Kane insists Tottenham are still in the Premier League title race despite suffering a major setback in their defeat at Burnley.
After winning all four league games while Kane recovered from an ankle ligament injury sustained in the January home defeat to Manchester United, Tottenham capitulated at Turf Moor on Saturday, falling 2-1 to Ashley Barnes' late strike after England forward Kane marked his comeback with the away side's equaliser.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino effectively conceded his third placed team were out of the race after the loss, which leaves Spurs six points behind leaders Liverpool, but Kane refuses to write off his side's chances.
"That would be their opinion. It's been like that for the whole season," Kane said.
"People have been talking us not being in it, then we would win a few games and we're there.
"People will probably say now it's a two-horse race, but that's not our problem. All we can do is take care of ourselves.
"It's a shame because when we needed to find another level, another gear, we didn't have it in the locker. Unfortunately that was the case."
Tottenham will not have long to wait if they are to prove their worth.
They are at the start of a period that sees them play league derbies against Chelsea on Wednesday and Arsenal on Saturday, as well as the return leg of their Champions League last 16 tie against Borussia Dortmund, in which they have a 3-0 lead.
CHARACTER
Kane and his teammates have made a habit all season of bouncing back from disappointments – such as the week in January when, without Kane, they exited both domestic cup competitions in the same week.
However, the manner of the latest defeat did have a terminal feeling about it as Spurs squandered the opportunity to close the gap on Liverpool and City.
"We've done it before and that shows the character of the squad, but it would have been nice if we had won this game and built from that," Kane said.
"We don't always want to be having to react from a poor result. But we will dust it off.
"we have three massive games to get up for. The motivation is there."
The odds appear in favour of Spurs enduring another frustrating season without silverware.
Kane admits it has been hard for Tottenham to play their home games at Wembley for two seasons while White Hart Lane is rebuilt.
But he claims the team's ability to remain in contention during that period deserves praise.
"We're a team that doesn't like to make excuses, but at the end of the day we've been playing away from home for the last two years," he said.
"We've had a tough time. It is what it is, we're in the hunt for the Premier League. We're still in the Champions League, we're in a good place.
"We've been there for the last few years and we've got to see if we can take it up another level, whether that's in the Premier League or Champions League and see if we can really progress."
Sports / Hazard Has The Tools To Succeed At Real - Mourinho by marvin123(m): 7:05am On Feb 25, 2019
Belgian international Eden Hazard has the talent and personality to succeed at Real Madrid if he chooses to leave Chelsea for the La Liga giants, his former manager Jose Mourinho has said.
Hazard, who will become a free agent in June 2020, said last year it was his dream to play for 13-times European champions Real, and British media have since reported that talks with Chelsea over a contract extension have been put on hold.
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri said last month that Hazard was free to leave the Premier League club if the 28-year-old had his heart set on a move.
"Does he have the talent to play for Real Madrid? He does," former Real boss Mourinho, who managed Hazard at Chelsea from 2013 to 2015, told sports streaming service DAZN Espana.
"Does he have the personality to put on a 'super-heavy' shirt and play in front of the fans at the Bernabeu? Yes, he has the personality.
"Regarding Eden's ambitions... be it playing for Chelsea his whole life or playing for a giant like Real Madrid, I can't say, because I haven't spoken to him for a long time."
Mourinho, who has been working as a television pundit and soccer show host since being sacked as Manchester United manager in December, also said he wanted to return to football management before the start of next season.
"In this short phase of my life, which I hope is only until June, I'm more concerned about what others would do than what I would do," he added.

Sports / Liverpool Are The 'lucky Ones' Moans Mourinho by marvin123(m): 12:36pm On Dec 16, 2018
Jose Mourinho has claimed Liverpool are "the lucky ones" as they bid to end a wait of nearly three decades to win the English league title.
Mourinho and his Manchester United side visit Anfield on Sunday with Liverpool 16 points ahead of their bitter rivals.
But Mourinho points to perceived good fortune enjoyed by Liverpool in recent victories over Everton, Bournemouth and Napoli as evidence they have lady luck on their side as they challenge for their first championship since 1990.
"Of course, they are very confident about themselves," Mourinho told reporters. "They are top of the league, they have this feeling of - I know that feeling well - the feeling of the lucky ones where everything goes in your direction.
"They know how they beat Everton, they know that the last match, the opening goal was offside, and they know that against Napoli in the last seconds they could be out.
"They have this feeling that I also had when my teams were top of the league and it looks like everything goes in your direction."
Klopp's side certainly benefitted from a stroke of luck when a defensive error gifted them a stoppage-time victory in the Merseyside derby, although a clearly offside opening goal by Mohamed Salah at Bournemouth was only the first of four scored by the rampant Reds.
And, while the midweek victory over Napoli was only confirmed when Alisson made a spectacular late save, the success carried last season's Champions League runners-up through to the last 16 and has further raised the mood of optimism around Anfield.
WEAKNESSES
Not that Mourinho expects his rivals to take inconsistent United lightly when they meet.
"I think they are obviously very, very confident. But I think they are not stupid," he said.
"They also know that we have our weaknesses, our strengths, and I think they will respect our strengths. I think if they don't do that I will be happy with that.
"They know that they need every point if they want to be champions so I think they are professionals and being professional is respecting Manchester United. They know that we can go there and win."
Mourinho, meanwhile, claims he does not yet know if he will have money to spend in the January transfer window which opens in barely two weeks' time.
Unsourced reports have claimed repeatedly in recent months that the United manager has been frustrated at the lack of backing he has received from his club's owners in the transfer market.
Last January, the window proved a busy one for Mourinho, as he completed the signing of Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez.
And, although that particular transfer has yet to prove a success, the Portuguese manager is clearly keen to do some more business next month.
"I don't know. I don't know if we are going to have new players – I would like to – but I don't know if it is possible or not," he said.
"It depends on the club. I don't know and, honestly, I'm focused on my job of playing Liverpool and next week playing Cardiff."
Mourinho insisted he is not concerned by the obvious lack of progress being made by his club in his two and a half years in charge.
"I'm not frustrated because my work is to demand from players that they give everything they have and what I demand – I only demand things that I can give myself," he said.
"So what I ask the players to do - that's what I do. You have to work hard, you have to work on your limits. It's my job."
Sports / Barcelona To Face Demons As Levante Host Leaders by marvin123(m): 12:45am On Dec 15, 2018
Barcelona will head to Levante on Sunday night top of La Liga and with a score to settle.
Seven months ago, they were two games away from becoming the first team to finish a Spanish top-flight season unbeaten since Real Madrid in 1932, and even then there were only 18 games in a 10-team division.
It would have been a remarkable feat, a feather in the cap for their coach Ernesto Valverde to help soothe the pain of a quarterfinals exit from the Champions League.
But Levante had other ideas, scoring three times in 10 minutes to lead Barca 5-1 before prevailing 5-4. "We are angry not to have come through this game and to lose the opportunity to finish unbeaten," Valverde said.
On their way to qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League this time, Barcelona drew at home to Tottenham on Tuesday when Valverde took the chance to rest several key players, including Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, Luis Suarez, Gerard Pique and Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
The irony is they will be fresh this weekend for the same opponent many believed knocked the stuffing out of them last season, three days before their collapse to Roma.
Perhaps Valverde has since heeded accusations he was naive, that he chased the unbeaten season when rotating his players could have helped them go further in Europe.
He has appeared keener to make changes this term and in those games, Barcelona have also dropped points.
Just as Levante tore them to shreads on the break, Barca still look vulnerable against speed too. Sergio Busquets has been exposed. Gerard Pique has been off the pace. If La Liga was ordered on fewest goals conceded, Barcelona would sit 13th.
Levante might feel the plan they executed so brilliantly back in May still holds. The surge away from the relegation zone under Paco Lopez has been maintained and the team currently sit seventh.
Barcelona's vulnerabilities can be more easily shrugged off while they are the league's frontrunners and those around them have problems of their own.
Real Madrid also rested players against CSKA Moscow on Wednesday but lost 3-0 at home, the Russians becoming the fifth side to score three or more against them this season.
And while Ousmane Dembele's sloppiness off the pitch continues to vex Barca, Real have their own unruly attacker in Isco, who was whistled by his own fans during the CSKA defeat and allowed his frustration to boil over.
"What do you want?" he seemed to shout at one point towards the stands. Later, he passed up the captain's armband too. "I tried to give the armband to Isco," said Marcelo. "He told me that I had to give it to Dani Carvajal, why I don't know."
Madrid should have little trouble against their city neighbours Rayo Vallecano on Saturday, which will be their last league game before setting off for the United Arab Emirates and the Club World Cup.
Atletico Madrid have fewer problems at the back and more up front, where goals, particularly away from home, have been hard to come by.
Barca and Real's troubles are there for Atletico to exploit but if they are three points off the top when their rivals have stumbled, how will they keep pace when they inevitably improve?
Sevilla, in second, have taken advantage. They host Girona on Saturday while Valencia hope to retain momentum after beating Manchester United in the Champions League in midweek. They play away to Eibar.
Sports / Ane Double Secures Champions League Top Spot For Man City by marvin123(m): 11:18pm On Dec 12, 2018
Manchester City survived a sloppy start to secure top spot in Champions League Group F by coming from behind to beat Hoffenheim 2-1 thanks to Leroy Sane's double on Wednesday.
Andrej Kramaric's penalty put the Germans deservedly in front on 16 minutes as another much-changed City side struggled to get up to speed.
However, Pep Guardiola's men found their feet as the first half wore on and were level just before the break courtesy of a brilliant Sane free-kick.
Guardiola was frustrated by his side's wastefulness in front of goal in the second period, but Sane did at least secure victory by converting Raheem Sterling's pass on the hour mark.
City made life difficult for themselves with a flat performance in losing at home to Lyon in their opening group game and were similarly caught cold having already secured their place in the last 16.
Kramaric had fired a warning shot inches over before Ederson in the City goal showed he wasn't to be outdone by Brazilian international teammate Alisson Becker's heroics to secure Liverpool's place in the knockout stages against Napoli on Tuesday by producing an incredible finger-tip stop to turn another curling effort from the Croatian behind.
However, Kramaric's luck was in third time round from the penalty spot after Aymeric Laporte was punished for hauling down Benjamin Hubner.
All of City's best efforts before the break came from set-pieces as Gabriel Jesus headed Sane's corner off the post before Oliver Baumann got down well to deny John Stones.
Nicolas Otamendi sent another wicked dead ball delivery from Ilkay Gundogan off the crossbar, but the hosts were finally level in spectacular fashion when Sane curled home a free-kick into the top corner from 30 yards out.
Hoffenheim needed to win just to have a chance of qualifying for the Europa League knockout stages in third, but in their desperation to chase a winner left themselves hopelessly exposed to the pace of Sane and Sterling after the break.
Sane was guilty of overplaying as City incredibly spurned a three-against-one when Sterling fed the German, who tried to tee up the surprised Bernardo Silva rather than going for goal himself and Baumann saved the Portuguese's shot.
Sterling has been in the news for bravely speaking out about the alleged racist abuse he suffered in defeat at Chelsea on Saturday and news coverage he has received in the past.
However, the England international showed little sign of letting it disrupt his fine form on the pitch as he teed up Sane to round Baumann and slot home the winner.
Pep Guardiola handed Phil Foden his first Champions League start of the season and the 18-year-old was only denied a spectacular first goal in the competition by a fine save by Baumann to turn his dipping volley over.
However, it mattered little as the competition favourites march into Monday's last 16 draw where they can face Atletico Madrid, Schalke, Ajax or Roma.
Sports / Stop Being Late And Prove Your Value, Rivaldo Urges Barca's Dembele by marvin123(m): 3:56pm On Dec 11, 2018
Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele needs to improve his attitude and focus on being more professional even if he does want to leave the La Liga leaders, the club's former championship winning player Rivaldo has said.
Dembele, who joined Barcelona in August 2017 for 105 million euros ($119.45 million), suffered injury problems in his first year and this season has been criticised for his behaviour, including turning up late to training and events.
Media reports have linked the 21-year-old with a move away from the Nou Camp during next month's transfer window.
Brazilian Rivaldo, who played for Barca for five years from 1997 and is regarded as one of the most skilful attackers of his generation, said there was no doubting the Frenchman's talents.
Dembele has only scored 12 goals for Barca but several of those have been important strikes in the league, the Spanish Super Cup and the Champions League.
"Ousmane Dembele's situation at Barcelona is upsetting because he's already shown that he can play very well, score goals and be an important member of the team," Rivaldo, who won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002, told Betfair.
"He just needs to focus on being a little more professional and to stop being late for training sessions.
"This is not the correct mentality for someone potentially trying to leave Barcelona. It's always strange to hear that someone might want to leave a big club in this way.
HURTING HIMSELF
"If he wants to leave, he must prove his value by playing well and not missing training sessions to recover his credibility as a professional. That will generate interest from other clubs. If he doesn't change, he is hurting himself more than the club."
Reports in the Spanish media said that Dembele arrived two hours late for training on Sunday after Barca's 4-0 league win over Espanyol the previous evening.
He may get a chance at redemption later on Tuesday when Barcelona take on Tottenham Hotspur in Group B of the Champions League. Ernesto Valverde's side have already qualified for the last 16 as group winners ahead of the final matchday, but Rivaldo said that his former team should be wary of Spurs who need a win to guarantee a place in the next round.
"With Barcelona already through to the knockout stages, and with the added possibility of them rotating their team, Spurs will have a bigger chance to upset them, but it won't be easy to win at Camp Nou," the former world player of the year added.
"Barca could become more vulnerable if they change anything in defence because Tottenham are such a talented attacking team. Players that have had less minutes on the pitch compared to the usual starting XI will naturally concede more chances."
Rivaldo lifted the Champions League trophy with AC Milan in 2003 but tipped the Catalans as favourites for this year's competition, just ahead of record 13-times winners Real Madrid and Premier League champions Manchester City.
Sports / 'try Something New, Come To Italy,' Ronaldo Urges Messi by marvin123(m): 2:26pm On Dec 10, 2018
Cristiano Ronaldo has urged long-time rival Lionel Messi to be more like him and push his limits by challenging himself in another league than Spain.
"I'd like him to come to Italy one day. I hope he accepts the challenge like me, but if he's happy there then I respect that," Ronaldo told the Italian press on Monday.
The two strikers have been rivals for the past decade winning five Ballon d'Or trophies each before their domination was broken by World Cup runner-up Luka Modric last week.
Asked if he missed the 31-year-old Argentinian, who has spent his entire senior career at Barcelona, Ronaldo replied: "No, maybe it's him who misses me ...
"I've played in England, Spain, Italy, Portugal and for my national team, while he's still in Spain.
"Maybe he needs me more... For me, life is a challenge, I like it and I like to make people happy.
"He's a fantastic player and a good guy, but I don't miss anything here. This is my new life and I'm happy.
"I left my comfort zone and took on this challenge here in Turin, everything has gone well, I've proven I'm still an incredible player," said Ronaldo.
Ronaldo joined Juventus for 100 million euros ($114 million) last summer as the Turin giants bid to lift the Champions League trophy after two runners-up finishes in the past four seasons.
To mark his 150 days in Italy he gave interviews on Monday to three leading sports dailies: La Gazzetta dello Sport, Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport.
"I had different options. I won't say which but I had them. Juventus is a solid club. It has a long history," he said of his decision.
"I knew the atmosphere in the stadium. I'd played several times in Italy. I like the city, the people and the club. I knew it could work.
"I couldn't be 100 percent sure I was joining the best club in the world. After nine years at Real Madrid it was difficult to compare.
"Now I'm 100 percent sure it was the right option."
- 'Not an obsession' -
Ronaldo has scored 11 goals this season, bringing his career total to 584.
Finishing second in Ballon d'Or voting to Modric, said Ronaldo, just motivates him even more.
"Of course I'm disappointed, but life goes on and I will continue to work hard," said the 33-year-old.
"On the pitch I've done everything to win the Ballon d'Or, numbers do not lie, but I'm no less happy if I do not win, I have wonderful friends and a family, I play in one of the best clubs.
"Congratulations to Modric, who has earned the award, but next year we will meet again and I will do everything to win the prize again.
"Do you think I'm going home and crying?"
Juventus play Young Boys in their final Champions League group game in Switzerland on Wednesday, having already booked their place in the knockout rounds.
And Ronaldo is hoping his experience of winning the trophy five times can serve his new team.
"The Champions League cannot be an obsession, you have to think about it calmly," he warned.
"Yes we all want it but we have to get there step by step.
"Look at the game against Manchester United (2-1 defeat), if it had been a quarterfinal we would have gone out. You need a little luck."
Sports / PFA Backs Sterling After Alleged Racist Abuse by marvin123(m): 2:18pm On Dec 10, 2018
The Professional Footballers' Association said Monday it stood "shoulder to shoulder" with Raheem Sterling after the Manchester City player suffered alleged racial abuse during his side's defeat against Chelsea.
Chelsea and the police are investigating the incident at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, which was highlighted on social media.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, Sterling accused British newspapers of helping to "fuel racism" with the way they portray young black footballers.
Simone Pound, PFA head of equality and diversity, said: "Football is a microcosm of society and incidents such as this highlight the current political climate.
"Raheem has made a stand by speaking out and we stand shoulder to shoulder with him against the discrimination of which he speaks."
A statement from the organisation on Monday added: "The PFA condemn, in the strongest terms, the increase in racial abuse our members have been receiving from the terraces.
"We encourage all clubs to take the strongest possible action for fans found guilty of racially abusing players.
"We commend Raheem for his professionalism during the incident and the statement he made via Instagram on Sunday," it added.
"We stand with him in calling for the press to consider the coverage of all footballers carefully, and to end their imbalanced coverage aimed at young, black players."
In his Instagram post Sterling, 24, referred to a story from January about City teammate Tosin Adarabioyo reportedly buying an expensive house despite never having started a Premier League match.
"The young black kid is looked at in a bad light. Which helps fuel racism an(d) aggressive behaviour," Sterling wrote.
"So for all the newspapers that don't understand why people are racist in this day and age all I have to say is have a second thought about fair publicity an(d) give all players an equal chance."
The PFA was also critical of the media's portrayal of Sterling, who has previously faced negative publicity, often for non-football issues.
"We have been aware for a few months of the targeting Raheem faces in the press – it is evident that he is often singled out and treated more harshly than his colleagues," its statement said.
"As such, these stories are fuelling racism within the game, as reports of racist abuse continue to rise."
Former England and Liverpool player John Barnes was the victim of persistent racism during his playing days, including monkey chants and having bananas thrown at him.
The 55-year-old feels prejudice and discrimination extend far beyond football and stems from "hundreds of years of indoctrination".
"When people talk about, 'Oh isn't that terrible what happened to Raheem Sterling?', you speak to black people in the inner cities and they say 'this is what we go through every single day'," Barnes told the BBC.
"It's not a surprise to us. It's prevalent in society as you go into the inner cities and see how disenfranchised and what a lack of opportunities there are for members of ethnic minorities."
Sports / Bale Strike Gives Madrid Narrow Win Over Struggling Huesca by marvin123(m): 10:43pm On Dec 09, 2018
Gareth Bale ended a three-month goal drought in La Liga to give Real Madrid a nervy 1-0 win away to basement club Huesca on Sunday, taking his side back into the top four at the expense of Alaves.
The Wales forward, who had not found the net in the league since September 1 but had scored in the Champions League, gave Real an ideal start by volleying home a cross from Alvaro Odriozola in the eighth minute.
Huesca, bottom of the table with a meagre seven points and without a win since the opening day of the season, did not lay down against the European champions though, and it took a flying save from Thibaut Courtois to prevent Ezequiel Avila levelling soon afterwards.
Sports / Messi Says Ballon D'or Snub Was No Extra Motivation by marvin123(m): 6:28pm On Dec 09, 2018
Lionel Messi insisted his fifth-place finish in Monday's Ballon d'Or awards was not a motivating factor behind his sensational performance in Barcelona's 4-0 thrashing of local rivals Espanyol in La Liga on Saturday.
The Argentine forward scored two masterful free kicks and created a goal for Ousmane Dembele among highlights in a bewitching individual display.
Messi, a five-time Ballon d'Or winner, did not make the podium for the first time in a decade with Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric given the trophy.
"No," said Barca captain Messi to Movistar when asked if he had extra motivation for the game because of the awards snub.
"We all came out fired-up from the start, really focused and determined. We knew (we had to because of) the stadium we were coming to and the opponents we were facing, they are having a great season."
Messi's teammates praised him, disagreeing with his placement in the Ballon d'Or rankings and the words of Brazil legend Pele who said the forward only has one foot and one skill.
"(Pele) must not be able to see very well if he said what he said about Messi," Barcelona full back Jordi Alba said.
"The Ballon d'Or is a lie. Leo is always the best in the world. It was not fair on Messi.
"There are a lot of campaigns coming from Madrid. If Cristiano (Ronaldo) had been in Madrid maybe the media and the fans would have wanted him to win, but he left so, well, Modric.
"Modric is a great player and had a great season, he's one of the best in the world but No 1 is Messi."
Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde, who labelled the votes "absurd", was also quick to praise his forward.
"What can I say about Leo? He shines in any game. To have him with us is infinitely fortunate, we're in an unrepeatable era watching a player like him," Valverde
Sports / Barcelona Send Umtiti To Doha For Knee Fix by marvin123(m): 11:32am On Dec 01, 2018
Key Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti will fly out to Doha for specialised treatment on a recurring left knee injury, the Spanish champions said on Friday.
Umtiti is said to be keen to avoid going under the knife and is seeking a softer solution.
Considered one of the best centre-backs in the world, the left-footed Frenchman has played just eight games for Barcelona this season because of the recurring pain in his knee.
The 2018 World Cup winner played in the 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid at the weekend but that was his first game in almost two months due to the pain which returned after the bruising game in Madrid.
"Samuel Umtiti will follow a plan of conservative treatment with the objective of curing the discomfort in his left knee," Barce reported on their website Friday.
"The player will travel to Doha, Qatar where he will follow this therapeutic plan under the supervision of the club’s medical services."
Catalan sports daily Sport said Umtiti "would not play again in 2018", claiming he would stay in Doha several weeks.
Another sports daily Mundo Deportivo said the player and club wished to avoid surgery in the search for a solution to the pain.
Sports / Zidane Will Be Managing Again Soon Says Son Enzo by marvin123(m): 11:27am On Dec 01, 2018
Zinedine Zidane's son Enzo Fernandez believes the former Real Madrid coach will return to management soon.
Frenchman Zidane led Madrid to an unprecedented three consecutive Champions League titles (2016-18) as well as winning La Liga (2017) before surprisingly walking away in May.
Midfielder Enzo, on loan at Spain's Rayo Majadahonda from Swiss side Lausanne-Sport, said his father needed a rest after his Real exploits but will return to the dugout before long.
"We all know that my father loves football and loves to be a coach. For sure, he will be back soon. It's his decision," Enzo told Spanish newspaper AS.
"Now he is taking advantage to rest, which he needed, because in the end being at Madrid was nice but hard, with a lot of work."
Enzo played for Madrid's youth team while his father was at the club but left for Alaves in 2017 before moving to Lausanne-Sport in January.
Zidane, 46, played for Cannes, Girondins Bordeaux and Juventus before becoming one of the 'Galacticos' at Real where he won the Champions League in 2002 and La Liga the next year. He won the World Cup in 1998 and the Euros in 2000.
Zidane retired from playing in 2006 and later turned his hand to management with the Spanish club's 'B' side in 2014 before taking over the first team in January 2016.
Sports / Spalletti Trusts Barcelona Not To Let Inter Down by marvin123(m): 6:46pm On Nov 29, 2018
Inter Milan's hopes of reaching the Champions League round of 16 are in the hands of Barcelona and coach Luciano Spalletti believes the Catalans will not let his team down.
Tottenham Hotspur's 1-0 win over Inter on Wednesday means they will go through at the expense of the Serie A side if they win their final group B match away to Barcelona.
Spalletti, whose own team host PSV Eindhoven in the other group match on 11 December, said there was no question that Barcelona would give it their all even if they had already qualified.
"They are serious professionals," he said. "I have no doubts about the way they will approach the match.
"It hasn't occurred to me that players like Gerard Pique, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez could take their foot off the pedal or not care about losing at home."
Spalletti said his decision to substitute midfielder Radja Nainggolan just before halftime was due to an ankle problem.
"Everything is fine with Radja and there was no issue between us at the time of his substitution," said Spalletti.
"He felt pain in his ankle and he was having some trouble running as his muscle stiffened up, therefore I opted to bring him off just before the interval. We had done all the necessary checks before the game."
Sports / Winning In Nou Camp Not Mission Impossible - Pochettino by marvin123(m): 6:49am On Nov 29, 2018
Tottenham Hotspur must do what no English club has done in 11 years and win in Barcelona in the Champions League next month if they are to be guaranteed an unlikely place in the last 16.
Christian Eriksen's 80th-minute winner gave Tottenham a deserved 1-0 victory over Inter Milan on Wednesday – a result that lifted them above the Italians into second place in group B by virtue of their better head-to-head record.
But they must match Inter's result in the final round of group games and with Luciano Spalletti's side hosting bottom club PSV Eindhoven that means victory in Spain will almost certainly be required by Spurs on their first visit to the Nou Camp since losing 1-0 in the 1982 Cup Winners Cup semifinal.
"All is possible. I never say it is mission impossible, in football all can happen, you need to believe," Mauricio Pochettino said after a nervy night at Wembley.
"It will be tough (to win at Barcelona) but the belief is so important. To arrive in Barcelona and compete at our best we need to have fresh legs, fresh minds, no injuries.
"We have big respect for Barcelona. Barcelona is one of the best teams in Europe, and of course they have unbelievable players. It will be tough. But we have belief we can win."
Barcelona's last three games at home to English clubs resulted in 3-0, 4-0 and 3-1 wins against Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal respectively.
Liverpool were the last English team to win there in the Champions League last 16 in 2007.
Inter coach Spalletti can only hope that Barca, who have already won the group, maintain their dominant home form in Europe.
Bayern Munich were the last side to win away in the Champions League against Barcelona, in April 2013, since when they are 28 matches unbeaten at home in the competition.
"I'm sure Barcelona will not give anything easy to Tottenham even if they are already qualified," Spalletti, whose side would have qualified for the last 16 if they had held out for a draw, told reporters.
"Players like Messi, like Pique. I don't even dare have a shadow of a doubt. I'm sure they always give their best and play to win every game they play."
Tottenham had the better chances on a tense night at Wembley. Harry Winks curled against the crossbar in the first half and Jan Vertonghen headed wastefully wide late on before Eriksen blasted home to seal three vital points.
"The performance was very good. We fully deserved the victory," Pochettino said. "Inter Milan showed a great level.
"They're a team that are so difficult to beat. The players deserve credit because the performance was very good.
"We dominated and created the best chances. Now we are in a position that depends on us."
Health / Good Nutrition Helps Growth by marvin123(m): 7:06pm On Nov 28, 2018
What every family and community has a right to know about nutrition
Globally, nearly half of under-5 child deaths every year are attributed to undernutrition, which weakens the body’s resistance to illness.
If a woman is malnourished during pregnancy or if her child is malnourished in the first 1000 days of life, the child’s physical and mental growth and development will be slowed. This cannot be corrected when the child is older – it will affect the child for the rest of his or her life.
Undernutrition develops when the body does not get the proper amount of energy (calories), proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients required to keep the organs and tissues healthy and functioning well. A child or adult can be malnourished by being undernourished or overnourished.
What every family and community has a right to know about nutrition:
1. A young child should grow and gain weight rapidly. From birth, children should be weighed regularly to assess growth. If regular weighing shows that the child is not gaining weight, or the parents or other caregivers see the child is not growing, something is wrong. The child needs to be seen by a trained health worker.
2. Breastmilk alone is the only food and drink an infant needs in the first six months of life. After six months, a baby needs a variety of other foods in addition to breastmilk to ensure healthy growth and development.
3. From the age of 6 months, due to increasing energy needs, a child needs to eat two to three times per day, from 9-23 months, three to four times per day – in addition to breastfeeding. Depending on the child’s appetite, one or two nutritious snacks, such as fruit or bread with nut paste, may be needed between meals. The baby should be fed small amounts of food that steadily increase in variety and quantity as he or she grows.
4. Feeding times are periods of learning, love and interaction, which promote physical, social and emotional growth and development. The parent or other caregiver should talk to children during feeding, and treat and feed girls and boys equally and patiently.
5. Infants and young children need extra vitamin A to help resist illness, protect their eyesight and help them grow. Vitamin A can be found in many fruits and vegetables, red palm oil, eggs, dairy products, liver, fish, meat, fortified foods and breastmilk. In areas where vitamin A deficiency is common, high-dose vitamin A supplements can also be given every four to six months to children aged 6 months to 5 years.
6. Children need iron-rich foods to protect their physical and mental abilities and to prevent anaemia. The best sources of iron are animal sources, such as liver, lean meats and fish. Other good sources are iron-fortified foods and iron supplements.
7. Iodine in a pregnant woman’s and young child’s diet is especially critical for the development of the child’s brain. It is essential to help prevent learning disabilities and delayed development. Using iodized salt instead of ordinary salt provides pregnant women and their children with as much iodine as they need.
8. As the child’s intake of food and drink increases, the risk of diarrhoea substantially increases. Food contamination is a major cause of diarrhoea and other illnesses that cause children to lose nutrients and energy needed for growth and development. Good hygiene, safe water and proper food handling, preparation and storing are crucial to prevent illnesses.
9. During an illness, children need additional fluids and encouragement to eat regular meals, and breastfeeding infants need to breastfeed more often. After an illness, children need to be offered more food than usual to replenish the energy and nourishment lost due to the illness.
10. Very thin and/or swollen children need special medical care. They should be taken to a trained health worker or health facility for assessment and treatment.
Sports / Mourinho Still Has A Lot Of Bottle, Hits Back At Critics by marvin123(m): 6:58pm On Nov 28, 2018
Jose Mourinho once again stole the show from his players, smashing drinks crates to the ground after Marouane Fellaini's late winner took Manchester United into the Champions League knockout stages and eliciting headlines on Wednesday such as "Bottle of Red".
The volatile 55-year-old Portuguese -- whose mood swings and barbed remarks about virtually all his players and the transfer policy of the board have cast a pall over the club this season -- said the violence of his reaction was the product of several factors.
Fellaini's winner against Young Boys and Valencia's defeat by Juventus ensured the 'Red Devils' progress, though it is likely as runners-up which will pit them against a group winner in the last 16.
"Relief," Mourinho said of his celebrations.
"Frustration before that and relief with the goal.
"We didn't play to be in trouble until the last minute, so frustration."
Along with his team, Mourinho has been consistently criticised this season, largely for United's turgid style of play. The late victory might have toned down the headlines on the British sports pages on Wednesday, but they were still far from positive.
'Water Boy', 'Smash & Grab' and the Sun's typically humorous play on words 'Water Load of Rubbish' would have greeted Mourinho this morning if he had cared to read the papers at his breakfast table in his hotel suite in Manchester which has been his home -- largely spent alone as his family have not moved from London -- since he took over in 2016.
The Daily Mail said "Jose Mourinho reacted in crazy fashion", and The Sun wrote that "Manchester United's boss blew his top again....Mourinho stunned Old Trafford and pundits with his reaction."
The Daily Mirror was kinder under the headline 'Bottle of red,' it said "Marouane Fellaini proved Manchester United have bottle... manager Jose Mourinho proved he has strength AND bottle..."
Mourinho can barely twitch an eyelid these days without being criticised by former United players or pundits.
His exasperated reaction to Marcus Rashford's early miss in the clash with Young Boys prompted former England great turned TV host Gary Lineker to lay into him.
"If I saw my manager react like that, I would be absolutely livid!" opined Lineker.
However, Mourinho hit back in typically feisty fashion.
"Can myself, or another manager, have a reaction of frustration? I would invite that people to sit on the bench as managers.
"But I think maybe it's better to have lots of holidays in Barbados and go to the television screen and touch the electronic dummies.
"I think it's much, much, much more comfortable than being on the touchline like we managers we are.
"I am pretty sure that a proper football manager would never criticise another one for emotional reactions on the touchline because it's deja vu for them. For the ones that have a nice life, it's different."
Sports / Ronaldo Hits 100 Champions League Wins As Juve Soar Into Last 16 by marvin123(m): 7:12am On Nov 28, 2018
Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri hailed the impact Cristiano Ronaldo was having on the Italian champions as the Portuguese star became the first player to achieve 100 Champions League wins in Tuesday's 1-0 success over Valencia that clinched their passage to the knockout rounds.
"Ronaldo gives us a sense of security and confidence," said Allegri of the beaten finalists in two of the last four editions of the elite European competition.
"The team is essentially the same as last season. We've grown, become faster in playing the ball, but then of course, there is Cristiano Ronaldo.
"This team is constantly improving – they're passing and putting play together more quickly."
Ronaldo – who joined Juventus last summer from Real Madrid – is targeting a sixth Champions League title to add to his four with the Spanish team and one with Manchester United.
The Italian team are looking for their third European title and first since 1995.
Last season they exited in the quarterfinals to Ronaldo's Real Madrid.
The 33-year-old played a key role against Valencia, providing the assist on 59 minutes which Croatian Mario Mandzukic tapped in for his third goal in as many matches.
Juventus had needed just a point to ensure qualification.
Their win combined with Manchester United's late 1-0 win over Young Boys at Old Trafford means Valencia crash out of the competition.
Allegri's side will now have to wait to see whether they top group H when they play their final group game mid-December in Bern against Young Boys.
'GREAT SPIRIT'
Ronaldo came out firing on all cylinders after his controversial red card during his first Champions League game for Juventus in Valencia back in September, which Allegri's side still won 2-0.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner had two chances within the first three minutes to add to his record tally of 121 Champions League goals.
Valencia had their best chance before the break when Mouctar Diakhaby's header off a corner was punched out with one hand by Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
Just before the hour mark, Ronaldo broke free of Valencia defender Gabriel and with some fancy footwork fired low across the face of the goal, leaving Mandzukic to finish off.
Valencia thought they had scored the equaliser two minutes later but Diakhaby's header was ruled to have come off his hand.
Valenica goalkeeper Neto kept out a late goal-bound header from Ronaldo, who rose to meet Paulo Dybala's out-swinging corner.
"You can see how united we are including the forwards," said Juventus captain Giorgio Chiellini.
"All three of them – Ronaldo, Mandzukic and Dybala, really put themselves about today. If we scrap like that, with the skill we have in the side, it makes everything much easier.
"We have to turn the page now – we'll start thinking about the Champions League again in February. We must focus on Serie A because we have a tough month ahead," added the defender as the league leaders target an eighth consecutive domestic title.
"The match was decided by great play by Cristiano," said Valencia coach Marcelino Garcia, "but out team gave everything, showing great spirit against one of the best teams in Europe."

Sports / Pique Fined For Driving Without A Valid Licence by marvin123(m): 5:10pm On Nov 27, 2018
A Spanish court on Monday slapped Barcelona centre-back Gerard Pique with a fine of €48 000 for driving without a valid licence.
The 31-year-old, who arrived at the Barcelona court dressed in a grey sweatshirt and wearing a wool cap in the company of his lawyer, accepted the sentence for breaching Spain's driving laws at the hearing. He left the court smiling but without speaking to the press.
Pique was stopped by municipal police in Barcelona as part of a routine check and was found to be driving without any points on his licence.
In Spain drivers licences operate on a system of points, which are deducted for any traffic offences. A driver who is left without any points will have their licence suspended for six months and must attend a course on traffic rules to recover it.
Pique could have recovered his drivers licence in June 2018 but he did not attend this course so his licence remained suspended in August when he was stopped by municipal police, according to the court ruling.
The player received a fine of €10 500 in 2015 for insulting two police officers who wanted to fine him for parking in a no-parking zone.
Images published by local media at the time showed Pique in a heated exchange with the officers, and crumpling the fine and throwing it on the ground.
