As the battle for leadership in the National House of Representatives lingers, the lawmakers engaged in a free for all fight this morning. The fight is between those loyal to the speaker, Dogara (which includes PDP lawmakers-Check here) vs those loyal to the party APC ..

Six executives of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and others being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over N8billion mutilated currency recycling fraud, are to remain in prison custody until June 15, 2015.

The CBN officials include Patience Okoro Eye, Afolabi Olufemi Johnson, Ilori Adekunle Sunday, Kolawole Babalola, Olaniran Muniru Adeola and Fatai Adedokun Yusuf.

Justice Ayo Emmanuel of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, yesterday adjourned to June 15 for ruling on the bail application brought by the accused persons. During yesterday’s sitting, counsel to the EFCC, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, prayed the court not to grant the accused persons bail as they were capable of interfering with the case.

He also told the court that some of the accused persons had threatened witnesses in the case who are staff of the apex bank, prompting the bank to transfer such staff. However, counsel to the first accused, A. Lawal prayed the court to grant bail to his client, assuring that he would be available to face his trial.

The same argument was canvassed by counsel to other accused persons who prayed the court to grant bail on liberal terms. After listening to the submissions of counsel, Justice Emmanuel adjourned to June 15 for ruling. In a similar development, Jacobs also prayed the court to refuse three former staff of CBN and two staff of Sterling Bank bail > (Read here)

Pipeline vandals struck at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC pipeline at Ije Ododo line, in Lagos around 11:15pm on Monday, causing a huge fire. To stop the spread of the fire, the NNPC shutdown flows and locked the supply valves.

Spokesman of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, South-West, Ibrahim Farinloye, said men of the fire service and other law enforcement agents were alerted but could put out the fire until yesterday morning. He said that securing access to the scene proved extremely difficult due to swampy nature of the area.

Farinloye said that in recent times Ije Ododo and Arepo have been “very volatile and extremely dangerous due to activities of the vandals.” The Ije Ododo line is from Atlas Cove which supplies products to Mosinmi Depot for distribution to other parts of.. Read here)

Rapoport was denied by the Nazis from sitting for her last, most decisive test very nearly 80 years ago.

A 102-year-old German woman Ingeborg Rapoport (nee Syllm) will be the older person ever to receive a doctorate when she gets awarded today, Tuesday June 9, 2015.

Rapoport was denied by the Nazis from sitting for her final exam almost 80 years ago. Because of the Nazis and their anti-Semitic belief she was stopped from finishing her medical studies and her thesis on diphtheria. Ingeborg Rapoport's mother was a Jewish pianist.

She couldn't defend her thesis. Back then she wrote for a confirmation from Hamburg University, but was told that "if the applicable laws did not prohibit Ms Syllm's admission to the doctoral exam due to her ancestry."

The University has now made amends. Three professors from Hamburg University's medical faculty visited Rapoport in east Berlin to find out if she was still knowledgeable about her work.
