Klass99: Losing an only child can make or break a couple. I'm aware of a married couple who is now divorced after the loss of their child. I don't know the whole story but I grasped that the event put a strain on their relationship, they grew apart and ended up divorced.
To answer the question in your last paragraph, I will say this, they don't need to start over with another child. They should move on by taking solace in each other, continuing to live life as best as they can and enjoying the companionship they have (if any)
Marriage doesn't have to be about children. Why do we always like to make it about children? That couple can simply be two adults taking good care of each other, mentally, emotionally, physically, sexually and financially, without kids, from this point forward.
I'm guessing they are in their late 40s to early 50s. Who wants to be paying school fees well into their 60s and 70s? I suspect you are the one worrying for them and starting over with another child has not even crossed their minds because they are still grieving.
Is this not Nigeria? Without a survey, most people in Nigeria are getting married to have kids. Unless you want to live in denial. I don't care if some married couples decided not to have kids. That's their choice.
We have even seen advices flying up and down online from some women to older single ladies, telling them if they don't find husband soon, they should look for a man to impregnate them so they can have a child that will take care of them when they are old.

He knows who you are. He knows who your friends are. He knows who your family is. Keep praying. It is prayer that will reach them. It. Is. Prayer. That’s the key.
I am becoming the man the Jesus created me to be. I give God all the praise for the transformation that is continuing to take place in my life right now.
I am not who I used to be. Jesus Christ will change your life. The other picture was yesterday. 4 years later.
There is freedom from any kind of sexual perversion that you may find yourself trapped in. I found it. You’ll never know what it means to me be free from the spirit of homosexuality.
From the gay bars to now being behind a pulpit every Sunday……some days I still can’t believe what has happened to me.
