Suspected terrorists abducted an unspecified number of traders travelling along the Kaduna- Birnin Gwari Road.

Bandits dressed in a ‘Hijab’ otherwise known as Abaya have kidnapped 26 persons mostly women and children in an attack on the Runka community of Safana Local Government Area, Katsina State.


Runka community is just a few kilometres away from the dreaded Rugu Forest which has over the years been harbouring criminals.

A source in the community told Channels Television in a telephone call on Monday that the hoodlums invaded the area on Saturday night at about 10:00 p.m. He said the assailants shot sporadically in several places in the community.

He claimed that the attack was a result of the activities of bandits informants who are mostly residents of the community.



“The bandits killed nobody in the community except one person who was shot and injured after he attempted to run. As I am speaking to you, he has been hospitalised.

“They abducted at least 25 people because even among my relatives, twelve persons were kidnapped.

“There was no security personnel presence during the attack which lasted for hours until after the incident when an armored personnel carrier attached with some police personnel was deployed to patrol the area.

“The bandits stationed themselves everywhere in the community. They moved from house to house, breaking and burgling the entrances and taking the occupants to the forest.


“During the attack, one of the bandits was overheard having a telephone conversation with an unknown informant telling him that, ‘Today, we’ve come to your hometown’.”

Police authorities in Katsina State are yet to comment on the incident as the spokesman of the command Abubakar Sadiq did not respond to inquiries from Channels Television.

But the chairman of Safana Local Government Area Abdullahi said 22 persons were abducted though some have managed to escape.

“The DPO Safana has deployed and stationed his team alongside soldiers to the area and they have already commenced a rescue operation,” he stated.

The 8th batch of the re-integration of low risk and minors of 560 repentant Boko Haram Militants have commenced training in Maiduguri, Borno State, North-East Nigeria.

The essence of the training is to prepare them for life after camp.

The re-integration training will be on between 6 and 9 months.

According to Brigadier General Abdullah Ishaq retired, who is the Borno State Special Adviser on Security Affairs, the trainees will be introduced to trades on different skills, before they are finally taken back to their respective communities.


He says they will be receiving lectures for 2 weeks from academicians, the police, the National Orientation Agency, religious leaders and other relevant sectors of the society.

They will also receive Starter packs at the end of the programme, before being returned to their communities who had screened them for the training.

My message has always been, as soon as they get back to the community, they should be involved in whatever activities the community is doing, be it Naming Ceremonies, Burials, Jumat prayers, they should all work together.”

Within the 3 years of the programme, so much has been achieved, in terms of people returning to farm, and the general gradual return of peace.

A Federal lawmaker representing Maru/Bungudu Federal Constituency in Zamfara state, Abdul Malik Zubairu, has married off 105 orphans whose parents were killed by bandits.

The grand occasion which took place on Saturday in Bungudu town, the headquarters of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State was attended by prominent personalities both within and outside the state.

Both the brides and the bride grooms were gorgeously dressed during the event which attracted the attention of thousands of people who graced the occasion.

The married couples were provided with beds and bedding materials by the lawmaker, in addition to N10.5 million paid as dowry for 105 brides.

Zubairu also provided the sum of N100,000 for each of the 105 bride grooms and N50,000 to each of the 105 grooms to enable them start business of their choices.
