Ado-Ekiti – Some football enthusiasts in Ekiti
State have urged the Super Eagles to defeat
Algeria on Saturday so as to qualify for the
2017 World Cup.
Some of them who spoke in Ado-Ekiti on
Friday contended that the Technical Adviser
should consider the match as a “must win’’. Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Youth and Sports, Mr Lanre Ogunsuyi, said the Super Eagles should ensure that they defeat Algeria to win the three points at stake in view of their home advantage. “ The national team should not be self- confident but instead, they should be determined to work together as team to triumph over the visiting team. “ It is going to be an interesting game but I believe the Super Eagles will win the competition at Godwin Akpabio stadium in Uyo.’’ Former Super Eagle, Mr Kehinde Odebunmi, expressed optimism that the national team would emerge victorious, even though, the match will be a hard nut to crack. He stressed the need to play the Algerians with all the seriousness the match deserved, saying they should play a tactical game and win the match convincingly. The Deputy Chairman of Ekiti Referees Association, Mr Daramola Olusola, expressed optimism that “the Algerians will go down’’. He noted that the Super Eagles were fortunate to have an experienced tactician to oversee their playing pattern. He advised the national team to heed to the instructions of the technical adviser of the team because “this is the only way to defeat the Desert Warriors of Algeria’’. The Head Coach of Ekiti United, Olusegun Adelakun, also advised the technical crew and the Super Eagles to show determination and seriousness in exchanging hostility with the Algerians. He urged the technical adviser to plug the loopholes in the team so as to avert any defensive error during the match. All the football stakeholders prayed to God to grant the team victory over their opponents.

America’s president-elect, Donald Trump,
has committed the selection of his future
cabinet into the hands of his running
mate, Mike Pence as well as three of his
children.
Reports from the United States where anti-
Trump protesters stormed the streets of
Washington DC to protest his win at the polls
which Hillary Clinton was clearly a favourite
to win, showed that Americans are already
showing signs of fear over a possible
xenophobic attack under his authority.
Donald Trump has reportedly added three of
his children as part of those to select his
cabinet.
On Friday, the businessman announced that
his vice president-elect would be in charge of
steering the transition of power, saying:
“Mike will have a big role. He’s very capable.”
In his first interview with The Wall Street
Journal after his triumph at the polls, Trump
informed that his vice would serve as the link
between him and the congress. It was also gathered that his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, was included on the transition team and this is likely to make the citizens raise their eyebrows. On Tuesday, November 8, Trump defeated Clinton in the election which was keenly contested between the pair and one which many bookmakers were proven wrong. His emergence as the 45th president of the United States is seen in different lights by leaders from all over the world, especially with the uncouth statements he made prior to the election.

The US presidential elections are coming
to a finale Today Tuesday, November 8, 2016.
The effects of the US elections are felt
outside the boundaries of the US, and
many countries are watching eagerly to
see the outcome of the elections.
Presidential Candidates
Nigeria is gearing up for elections in 2019.
What are the differences between the
Nigerian elections and that of the US? Here
are some of them: 1. Direct and indirect voting The US elections focuses on indirect voting, while Nigeria uses the direct voting method. How? While in Nigeria, voters come out and cast their votes state by state for the candidate or party of their choice, the votes are then collated and counted. In the US, citizens who are registered to vote in one of the fifty states or Washington, D.C. cast ballots for members of the U.S. Electoral College, known as electors. These electors then in turn cast direct votes, known as electoral votes, in their respective state capitals for President and Vice President. So in essence, US elections are decided by states and not individuals. Each of the states casts as many electoral votes as the total number of Senators and House Representatives in Congress, while Washington, D.C. has three votes. 2. Exceptional cases Despite the effort put into making the election process smooth, sometimes there are exceptional cases, these are handled differently depending on the country. In the US, if no candidate receives an absolute majority of votes for President, the House of Representatives chooses the president; if no candidate receives a majority for vice president, then the senate chooses the vice president. In Nigeria, if no candidate satisfies the requirement, a second election will be held between the two leading candidates within seven days from the pronouncement of the result. 3. Timing In the US, the day a presidential inauguration occurs is known as “Inauguration Day” and occurs on January 20 or 21st if the 20th is a Sunday. Prior to the Twentieth Amendment, the inauguration date was March 4. In Nigeria, May 29 is Democracy Day and it is also the national inauguration day. This public holiday commemorates the restoration of democracy in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, when the newly elected Olusegun Obasanjo took office as the President of Nigeria in May 1999 ending multiple decades of military rule that began in 1966 and had been interrupted only by a brief period of democracy from 1979 to 1983. 4. Number of parties In the US, the political parties with federal representation are: Democratic, Republican and Independent. Usually the presidential race falls between Democratic and Republican candidates. In Nigeria, the political parties are more numerous, some of them are: – Advanced Congress of Democrats (ACD) – Alliance for Democracy (AD) – All Progressives Congress (APC) – African Democratic Congress (ADC) – All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) – All People’s Party (APP) – African Renaissance Party [ARP] – Conscience People’s Congress [CPC] – Communist Party of Nigeria (CPN) – Citizens Popular Party (CPP) – Democratic Alternative (DA) – Democratic Socialist Movement (DSM) – Fresh Democratic Party (FDP) – Labour Party [LP] – Masses Movement of Nigeria (MMN) – National Conscience Party (NCP) – New Democrats (ND) – National Democratic Party (NDP) – People’s Democratic Party (PDP) The main political parties are the PDP and APC. 5. Requirements In Nigeria, a person shall be qualified for election to the office of President if: (a) he is a citizen of Nigeria by birth; (b) he has attained the age of forty years; (c) he has been educated up to at least School Certificate level or its equivalent. (d) service in the public or private sector in the Federation in any capacity acceptable to the Independent National Electoral Commission for a minimum of ten years. While, in the US, the requirements are: No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty-five years, and been fourteen years a resident within the United States. Also, no person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.
